Beware!!!! I came here to get a what I thought was a simple alteration (a front slit in my dress) for a Quiceñera. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I told the lady what I wanted and she said yes I can do it. I went to pick up my dress day of the party, went home tried on the dress and the slit was totally off. It was two layers and they did not match up. Total mess day of party! I took the dress back and showed her what she did wrong and I asked her if she could fix it, left the dress came back later that day took it home tried it on again. And she didn't do anything to it, plus didn't even offer a refund. She should pf just told me that she couldnt do it. To top it off it was my sister's bridesmaids dress deom my weddimg which had sentimental value and now its ruined. The worst customer service, Ive ever experienced. Came here today, 7/12/2025 to have a men's suit altered. Second time here. Pants needed to be let out a bit and sleeves needed to be brought up a bit. The woman helping me said that the sleeves on the jacket looked fine. I told her I like to show some shirt cuff as I wear French cuffs. She said "no, it looks fine." I said "Yes, I'd like the cuffs taken up a quarter inch. Are you going to tell me how I like to wear my suits"? She said no and that she didn't want to do the work. I acknowledged her refusal and left quietly. Obviously, I will not be returning here. I would suggest to not bring any type of men's clothing here as the proprietor of this business either doesn't know men's clothing very well. Or chooses to do some work for men but not other work. Went here to get a bridesmaids dress tailored after my mother-in-law said they did a great job on one of her mother of the bride dresses. For $51 she took up the straps, took it in on the sides, and hemmed it. She gives you options on where you want the hem to hit (top of shoe, grazing the floor etc.) She did beautiful work, and was very professional. Yes the fitting room is small, but for the great work that she does,it really doesn't bother me. Took another sundress here just to get the straps taken up and that was only $12. So I came here desperately needing a same day fix on my pants. I called first and ask "do you do same day alterations" and the lady said "yes, what time do you need it by?" I said 5pm is good and it was 12:45 when I called. So I rushed right down the street 5 minutes away to drop the pants off. Upon entering the business the lady was busy on her sewing machine no problem. Once she acknowledges me I tell her I called about the pants. So she tell me to put them on never directing me to the little space in the corner and I almost dropped my shorts right by the door...lol!! But I saw the small space and went in and changed into the pants. I stepped out and of course she went back to her sewing machine. I waited until she figured out I was done and waiting for her. She told me to step up in front of the mirror. She began to ask me how high I wanted the hem. I specified at the ankle. The pants were honestly too big and I should have gotten a 34 instead of a 36 but anyways she showed me the perfect length and I said that's fine then I had to pull of the pants because they were falling off my hips and she said stop moving so rudely. I told her the pants are big and I had to pull them up in order to know for sure where I wanted them to be. Based on her huffing and puffing she was annoyed with me and at this point I would have said "Nevermind Bye" but I had a party to go to. So I put up with her rudeness and then told her my waist was too big can she do that as well as make my pants legs slimmer. She said "you said only hem" I said "I never said only hem because I don't use technical sewing words I said alterations" then she huffed and puffed again. So I agreed to just the waist and hem alterations. I asked how much and she said $18 but when she wrote up my ticket it was $18 for waist and $10 for hem for a total of $28 fine I paid the bill with a $10 bill and $20 bill she gave me $2 change. I left went home and got the Size 34 and realized it fit much better than the size 36 so I immediately called and asked her if she started the work she said no so I told her I didn't need it any longer and she said ok and I told her I would pick up the pants in a few. Later, I went to pick up the pants and when I got there she was helping another young lady. I waited and once she was ready to help me I told her I was there for the pants because she had forgotten me already. It was awkward because she just handed me my bag and I was just standing there waiting for her to give me my refund. Then she say give me the $2 back it's mine. I dug in my wallet to retrieve $2 but she could have just gave me back $28 that I paid! She had bad customer service all around and I'm glad I didn't have to support this business based on desperation. read more

The lady their is super rude and unprofessional! Went in to get pants altered for my son and needed them urgently. She says she can do it no problem. 2 days later we go before it was even closing time, and she just left a note on the doer saying she wasn't able to complete the job and to come back tomorrow. We had to go out of our way to buy new pants for my son, as we were leaving town that day. We expressed how important it was and asked multiple times if she'd be able to do it!! I needed to find a place that would tailor my bridesmaid's dress by length and bust/waist in 2.5 weeks so I found this place on Yelp. I've driven pass this place too many times but never walked inside. So I walked in at an awkward time when a lady was trying out her altered dinner dress and complaining about how it was altered, demanding that the business ladies pay $20 for ruining it and making it too short, saying that the dress made her look like a corner girl. The business lady said that she just altered it exactly how she asked it for. They were bickering back and forth about it. What's worse is that the location and neighborhood is not what anyone would consider a "good neighborhood". The lady handled that business and no one ended up paying for anything. The customer didn't pay to have her dress altered and the business lady didn't pay the customer for "ruining the dress". I was the next customer to get helped. The dressing room is a makeshift dressing room in the corner of the first room that consisted of a curtain to change behind. They leave the front door open and the heater isn't on so the place is freezing at night during the wintertime. The lady wanted me to come back with the push up bra that I was going to wear with the dress as well as the shoes. I was already wearing a push up bra but I guess it wasn't pushed up enough for her. So I returned 1 week before I needed the dress with a better push up bra. It did look better with the better push up bra so her honesty (though blunt) was appreciated at the end of the day. She pinned down the dress at the waist, bust, and feet where it needed to be altered and quoted me $50. That's cheap especially for that complex dress with layers and different materials. I came by to pick up my dress and it fit perfectly. I asked the lady if I can close the front door while I changed since it was cold and she didn't mind closing the front door. The place is unassuming but gets the job done. Plus the lady is super sweet and helpful. read more

This little shop is right on the corner of Somerset and Clark. It's EXTREMELY easy to miss if you don't know it's there. And boy is it a GEM! Why is that? You'll see (^_~) Sue is literally a seamstress goddess. If you need something that's seemingly tricky, or might seem like it's out of your reach, have no fear! Sue can do it. Okay, obviously she can't do EVERYTHING, but for the most part, she is always on her "A" game. There's a reason why I only gave 4 stars ya know. I have 2 very beautiful O'Neill maxi dresses, that I love dearly. But at a whooping 5 foot 3 inches, even an extra small had me swimming in the material. My mother, fortunately, suffers from a height challenge as well, so she recommended I take my dresses to Sue. She takes all of her work pants there to be taken in and shortened, so I trusted her advice and paid Sue a visit. I explained to her what I wanted (hemmed up, and sewn NOT cut, because if I need to let them out, I can) and she had me try the dresses on. *FOREWARNING: the dressing room is a thin rope that hangs across the corner of the building by the door, with a sheet hanging from the rope.* When I came out, I hadn't adjusted the top of the dress straight across, but Sue started pinning away. I tried to point this out to her, that the dress was at an angle because the top was dipping down in the back. She waved it off and said it would be okay, she would fix it. I said okay, and put the other dress on. She did the same thing. But I trusted she would make sure it was evenly hemmed. She gave me my receipt ($18 for both dresses), and told me to come back in 3 days. -3 days later- I went back to retrieve my dresses and try them on to make sure they were the right length. Well, when I put them on, what would you know?! The front was shorter then the back when I straightened the top out because she hadn't fixed the hemline like she said she would, and my dresses now matched the uneven angle it had been pinned at. I walked out and stood on the little platform and pointed the issues out to her. She asked if I had the dress on the same way as when she pinned and I said no. She told me what I already knew, and I explained that I had tried to tell her prior that the hemline would be uneven. And here is where the loss of a star comes in. Sue said she would fix it.. for another $14! So in order to have my dresses fixed the way they should have been done the 1st time, I have to pay again?! I'm pretty sure that should have been on the house since it was, after all, her error. So again, she gave me my receipt and told me to come back in 3 days. So I did. The dresses where corrected. So in 2 trips I spent $32, and my dresses are now "fun size", just for me. The lines are neat and clean, and she even reattached the "O'Neill" emblem at the bottom of the dress! I'm going to be bringing many other items here to have fit to my size, because Sue can just make it happen! read more

First of all I don't know why it always says this place is closed on yelp. They're usually open by 10am and closed by about 6, I'm not sure if those are their actual hours but I've been there several times and that seems to be closest. I'm taller than your average girl (5'10") and I have to buy what are basically plus size jeans with crazy long inseams. Then I have the ladies at the Sewing Basket take in the waist and hem the legs. Sometimes the jeans I buy have funky pockets so I'll have them sew the pockets shut in order to have a clean look. I've also had boot cut and flare leg jeans that fit in the waist and thigh but looked like they were too short at the foot, so I had them turn the legs into straight legs and they look fantastic. Its about $8 to have the waist taken in $6 to have pockets sewn shut, and $8 to have them hemmed To have jeans that fit like a glove is pretty awesome and for their prices, totally worth it :) read more

No, no, no horrible place!! Very nice people but I went to go get my dress altered and they said it was going to take two weeks. A week later I went to go check it out to see how it's going and they said they haven't even started on it, and I asked them if I can have it sooner since I need it asap for a wedding and they were okay with that. Got it 5 days later and tried it on at home and the hemming of the dress was uneven! The front was longer than the back and the left side of the dress was shorter than the right side. My mom took hers as well and her dress was if it wasn't even hemmed at all, spend 56 for both. For what? Ruining the dress? I thought it was going to be a legit place but this is my FIRST AND LAST time here. I don't even wanna bother complaining to them because they're just going to make it worse and make me wait longer when I don't have time, found a place called plaza cleaners and they were very shocked and told me it's going to take 2 days and guarantee satisfaction. I took my prom dress here...many years ago and remember the affordable and good work. I recently took a dress for my dance group to get hemmed. She only charged me $28...which i think is good since the other girls in my group paid $50 elsewhere. The dress is 3 layers with an angled front.
