It's disappointing how unprofessional this bakery has been. I was quoted $550 for a three-tier wedding cake, but after being left on read four times and making two phone calls--during the second of which I was actually hung up on while leaving a voicemail--I lost all confidence in their service. That said, I'm genuinely grateful their lack of professionalism and communication became clear before I placed a deposit. We ordered a birthday cake for my mom and myself. This is our first time ordering a cake from Mim's , but all their other treats are so delicious so I knew it would be amazing. We have enjoyed many of their treats over the years such as they're petite fours, cheesecakes & one of my very favorites is this chocolate mousse type dessert that is out of this world . We served this cake after a steak dinner and everybody really enjoyed it and said it was delicious. I love the sticker on the box that said do not refrigerate it. Personally, I prefer my cakes at room temp like the sticker recommended. I was not able to locate the original post, so I will post again to help you decide if you want to try this place out. As I mentioned, YOU DECIDE. It is a hit and miss with this place. If your event is important enough, then read the reviews carefully and take your chances. There are good reviews for this company and they were lucky to get what they ordered. We ordered the Citron Framboise, but take a look at the pics to see what we got. Our guests stated that the icing was so sweet and thick and they could not eat it. We also did not get raspberries in the middle, we got a preserve or jam which was awful. In my first post, I mentioned that based on all the good reviews of Mim's, we decided on something new and give Mim's a try. We usually go to Upper Crust. After our experience with Mim's, we posted our review. The owner responded by saying we were complaining about Upper Crust which is NOT TRUE! In the owner's response, she also disclosed all the details of our order which included private health information. Very unprofessional to behave in this childish and appalling manner. But the service, quality, and the fact we did not get what we ordered is NOT the worst thing. You better be happy with your order because if you try to complain, the owner will SHOOT you down before you get a word in. If that is not convincing enough, stay turned for the owner's infuriating response to get an idea of how you will be treated if you are not happy with your order. read more

My husband ordered the cake from Mim's and worked with them to come up with a design that contained the colors of Berkeley and incorporated my indigenous heritage. I couldn't have been more happy with how it all turned out. Anyone who knows me knows that I love cake. The flavor was Amaretto Mocha Latte and ranks in the top two best cakes I've ever had as it was both beautiful and delicious. Ordered a birthday cake for my fiancé, I emailed with Melissa and sent a picture of exactly what I wanted. I was told she could make it like the picture. The next day I call the store to see what pick up time and I'm told that they no longer can decorate the cake like I wanted and like Melissa said she could so I asked for just a plain white cake with black writing and a picture on it. When I came to pick the cake up today, the cake is NOTHING like what I asked for. It's half blue with weird frosting strokes, the blue is royal blue, the sprinkles on the bottom are only blue and the sprinkles on the top are only gold and blue! It looks like a police graduation cake not a birthday cake! Complete waste of my money and I ended up having to try to redo the entire cake myself. If a client sends you a picture and you can't do it then communicate that! If they send a picture and you instead want to put your own "twist on it" then first communicate that! If you don't want to make the frosting the color that was requested by the client, then call the client and inform them before making it however you want. It was a custom cake the only thing they did right was using black icing to write the "happy birthday". Go somewhere else where your expensive custom ordered cake will actually be CUSTOM. I'm from Florida & my son's family moved to Chico, California for a year & a half. I wanted to send special treats to them because I love & missed them so. I sent cookies the first time, a variety. Melissa the owner was so sweet to deliver even when they normally don't. My son & his crew said the Snickerdoodles were the best they'd ever had. The next birthday they delivered wonderful cupcakes! My son also went back locally for more of the delicious cookies. I ordered more to be delivered also as well as a caramel apple homemade pie for Thanksgiving... they raved about it also! She charged me less for delivery each time. We exchanged telephone numbers during this pandemic time in which she allowed me to order to her personally. She always did the extra mile with sweet messages/decorations. They went far above the call of duty & I acquired a precious friend! The only reason I am giving two stars is because of the friendly ladies behind the counter. I came in on a Wednesday at 9:15 am. They had been open all of 15 minutes and they had close to nothing in the bakery case. I had come in the day before around 10:30 and they had four cupcakes in the case, and it was suggested I get there when they open to see the full selection of goodies. So that's what I did. They had two gluten free cupcakes that looked exactly like the two that were in the case from the day before, along with three other flavors and only one or two of those left as well. No whole cakes to choose from. And only two different cookie choices. I have never been to a bakery with such slim pickings, especially one that opens as late as they do. The lack of selection was disappointing to say the least. I did end up with two cupcakes; one cookies and cream and the other the chocolate mousse. The cake itself was moist, a little too moist in my opinion and almost gummy. The frosting on the cookies and cream cupcake was the strangest I have ever had. The consistency was not like any frosting I have ever had, and am struggling to find words to describe it, and the artificial cream cheese flavoring was awful. The cookie in it was soggy and not appealing. I'm pretty sure that it was also a cupcake from the previous day. The chocolate mousse itself was good, but how it all came together left a lot to be desired. And who puts cupcakes in a Chinese food to-go box?! There is no way to get it out of there without touching and getting frosting on your hands, which leads me to believe there is no way to get it into the box without the same outcome. Made them a little less enjoyable knowing someone else's fingers had probably entered this frosting as well. Super bummer since I just moved in around the corner and was really excited about having yummy treats be so close to home. I should mention I have been baking for over 25 years and owned my own custom cake shop for 15 years in Nevada before moving to Cali. I do know good cake and sadly this just isn't it. Sometimes I just don't feel like baking a batch of cupcakes to satisfy my sweet tooth, but that is def what I'll be doing, or going to Upper Crust. They get it right every time. read more

Customer service like you haven't seen before! I needed carrot cake cupcakes on the day I called and a very sweet gentleman said they didn't have any but he could whip some up. Two hours later I pick them up and they are beautiful and the most delicious carrot cake cupcakes I've ever had. I couldn't believe it! Horrible Customer Service! I reached out to Melissa on June 29, 2023 to see if she had any availability to make a cake for my daughters 13th birthday. She emailed me back and said she did have availability and could make my daughters birthday cake for her party on July 8th. I was grateful she had availability. Over the next few days I emailed back and forth with Melissa about the details of the cake and sent her a few pictures of what my daughter had in mind for her cake. We both agreed on the same cake and she explained that a 50% deposit was due in order to reserve the date and have the cake made. I venomed her the deposit on June 30, 2023. On July 4, I sent an email asking if I could pick up the cake on July 7, 2023. Melissa responded via email and stated I could pick up the cake on July 7, 2023 between 12 and 3. I drove 45 mins on July 7 to pick up the cake. I arrived at 12:15 p.m. and an employee asked how he could help me. I stated I was there to pick up a cake order. He asked me my name and I provided him the information. He went over to check for the tag with my name on it, and turned to me and said," Could it be under another name?" I provided him my daughters name thinking it may be under her name. He then said I am sorry ma'am but I don't have anything for you. I showed him the emails I had with Melissa and what the cake was supposed to look like. He asked me to wait while he called the owner. I waited 15 additional minutes for the owner to arrive. When she arrived I was standing outside and she got out of her car and looked at me and with profanity said she messed up. She continued to use profanity at me and when I decided enough was enough of her talking to me like that I respectfully asked for a refund. She said how much did you f******* pay me? I said I venomed you the deposit of $69.00 and she reached into her register and removed $70.00 from the register and threw it at me across the counter. I was completely taken back. I said excuse me but that is not great customer service. She continued with profanity towards me and I turned and walked out. As I was exiting the door I heard her yelling at her employees. I will never go back to Mim's and I don't recommend it either! read more

As I was driving on Humboldt from Pine, I began to doubt that there was a bakery in there somewhere because it was definitely residential. And as soon as I was giving up, voilá, there was Mim's. I am so surprised with myself. By now I should have reviewed Mim's sooner. This bakery is fantastic. My sister has a few dietary restrictions. I have ordered from Mim's more than once. The second time they remembered me and were excited to meet my needs again. The first order was cupcakes for my sisters birthday. I told them I need purple cupcakes, gluten free and red dye free. THEY MADE THEM!!! They also took the time to dust them with silver and decorate them with stars AND THEY WERE PURPLE!!! They used berry juice to make them purple. They tasted amazing, weren't dry and were just beautiful. The following year my sister was getting married I told them the theme of the wedding was beachy. They made candy shells and placed them on top of a cupcake that looked like a sandy beach with water! The following year we didn't order anything special but they had a ready to go torte that was beautiful and the taste was to die for it was so rich and creamy! They have never failed us and they have an amazing memory. I will continue to go there for all of my bakery needs. read more

I actually stayed at the owner of Mims Airbnb. In the fridge she left some treats for us. I'm a fitness and health coach so I do my best to stay healthy, but with those treats around it was really hard. Her cake balls are SO GOOD. Then she does these hard shell covered cupcakes that are so tasty too! WARNING! Do not get your wedding/special event cake here. I scheduled my cake testing for my wedding here and it was a big mistake. We show up to our tasting and picked out our cake for our wedding. The worker wrote down the details and said we were set. I call a couple weeks later to ask a question about the cake and they have no record of my wedding cake in their books. Then the person on the phone proceeds to tell me they cannot make my cake for the wedding because they are closed on Sundays and Mondays. If this was communicated to me at my tasting there would not be a problem, but two months before my wedding i am told they cannot make my cake. The owner, I presume, proceeds to tell me they were out of town for my tasting and the person who helped us must have gotten confused. The owner made rude comments such as "sorry I take a vacation every three years l and "i'm not going to come in on my day off for a $10 profit" when I told them the worker who helped us at our testing told us the bakery could make my cake and we could pick it up Monday morning. I understand that business are closed, but if I had waited until my wedding I would have not had a cake. There was no apology for the confusion and I was basically told to take my business elsewhere. read more

Snickerdoodle cookie was stale and disappointing. Full Review: Just happened by Mim's one day last week and stopped in for a couple cupcakes and a snickerdoodle cookie. The frosting was solid and the cake difficult to eat without making a huge mess. Letting it come to room temp solved the problem and greatly enhanced the eating pleasure, but as attractive and appetizing as they are, it is a difficult wait. Thought I would try satisfying the hungry hubby with a cookie while we waited, but the snickerdoodle I chose was very stale. Even the dog turned up his nose. I needed a cake for my mother's 50th bday and she is a baker herself so I knew it needed to be good. It was about a week from the party, and Mim's was one of the only bakeries that would take orders that soon. So that was nice too. I live in yuba city and couldnt make it in to discuss cake details, so Their communication was great as far as responding to emails, and making sure i got exactly what i wanted without coming into the bakery. Overall I was extremely happy, the cake tasted amazingggg, including the fondant. (Yes I'm one of the few weirdos that actually likes fondant) haha. My only slight complaint was the final presentation of the stripe design, where it wrapped around the back wasn't entirely neat and clean (see pics) so for the price paid that was a little dissapointing. But like I said, overall we were extremely satisfied and my mom was in tears at her party!! Would definitely order from Mim again :) read more

Extremely disappointed. I have heard people rave about Mim's for years, and I have always been a fan of real bakery cupcakes, and other goodies. I recently found out that they have opened their own shop, instead of just taking orders for special occasions. Within a few days, I was there. While ordering a birthday cake, we decided to try a few things from the case. A vanilla cupcake with chocolate frosting, a small sponge cake with raspberries, and a piece of a chocolate torte. The cupcake was fair, but the frosting on it was horrible. The torte was pretty good and the spongecake was maybe a 3 at best. We returned the next day for the $29 6" chocolate mousse cake. EW! It was heavy and thick. Too much ganache and I couldn't really find the 'cake' part. I feel terrible for the birthday girl as she was so excited about getting a cake from the infamous Mim's, and not one person finished their cake. On top of that, the service was fair to poor. The girl that took my order was there the next day as well. No greeting, no smile, nothing. And the store was not busy at all. No one at the counter seemed to care about the customers standing in front of them. Perhaps they should go back to being anonymous. Needless to say, I will not be returning. read more
