I ordered a cake for my daughter's wedding 6 months in advance. Circumstances beyond our control we had to cancel the order. We canceled two months before the scheduled event. They refused to give our $180 dollar deposit back instead saying they could give us a "store credit". The counter service was uninspiring. The owner was uncompromising when we asked for a refund, stating she could have booked additional business if not for our order. My suggestion, go to Upper Crust or Tin Roof Bakeries, they know how to treat their customers. read more

I had a special event where I needed a HUGE cake with my company's corporate logo on it. I had been told by several friends in Chico that Mims was THE BEST so I ordered the cake, relying on their good judgment since I work/live in the Sacramento area. What a great and wonderful surprise to see the GORGEOUS cake Mims created for my event. It simply could not have been better. The cake was big enough to feed 150 people and we went through it in an hour and five minutes (we were serving it at a public gathering free cake for all). And the crowd loved it! Mim's made the cake for our recent wedding. Our original cake plans fell through at the last minute and with only 5 days till the big day, we called Mim's asking if they could make a cake for ~120 people in time. Melissa (the owner) agreed, and in doing so made what could have been a very stressful ordeal quite pleasant. The cake was absolutely delicious: a beautiful butter-cream frosted white cake with strawberries and cream cheese. Many of our guests commented on how good it tasted. I bought a specialized cake for a baby shower. Had pics of what I wanted, because I'd heard this was a great place to go. I arrived two hours before the party. The cake was brought out and it was horrible! The frosting was so thin you could see the cake beneath in places. The color was not at all uniform! It was dark in places and lighter in others, very obvious. When I pointed out how disappointed I was and showed them why, their response was "oh well, take it or leave it." (their words exactly) .They could obviously care less. I'd already paid for half (the cake was $120, I'd already paid $60, I couldn't get a refund). I had 2 hours before the party and no choice but to take the cake. When I asked for a box to put it in to transport it, they put it in a box and smashed and entire corner of the cake. (it was square) On a high note, the actual cake was tasty. But after the service and the price I paid for a super crappy looking cake, and HORRIBLE service, I would buy a grocery store cake before ever going back there. read more

My husband did not want another cake from the "big box store" for our daughter's 8th grade graduation. I called another bakery in town that my husband had heard about but they were not taking orders for the next 2 months. A co-worker suggested Mim's bakery. I remembered trying White Chocolate cupcakes that were delivered to a dental office I worked at years earlier and thought they were delicious. After looking at the photo gallery on their website, I decided to copy a beautiful graduation cake with a pink cap and flowers. While the cakes tasted fine, I was overcharged for the most unprofessional looking wedding cake I have ever seen. The cake was NOT designed how we had said it would look and the tiers were uneven. The fondant was beyond cheesy looking and VERY uneven. The circle on the cake looked like a smashed up oval and only one side had the decorations so we had to put it up against a wall. This was the biggest disappointment. If it had cost half of what I had paid, then I could understand. But to spend that much money on a cake that appeared to have been thrown together minutes before pick up was so frustrating! And furthermore, there were places where the color from the fondant got on the white frosting and they didn't even bother trying to fix it! I had to do it myself. I added decorations and took off what they put on it to make it half way decent. However, the cake did have great flavor and the woman was nice to fit us in for the appointment. read more

Mim's isn't a super well known place, but those who visit once will be coming back for years. I consider myself a chocolate conniseur and their truffles are delicious, and it's nice to know that they are made on site and not shipped in from who knows where.
