Definitely consider making reservations because the restaurant gets quite busy during peak times. I chose to go with the fish pie and it was absolutely delicious. Everything was seasoned perfectly. We left with our tummies full and satisfied! Make sure you make this part of your Cork stops.

The second night I had an appetizer of seafood chowder and the John Dory fish. The cheese cake was unique, , very satisfying taste of cocoa, and the crunchy and gritty texture really felt like Ferrero Roche. For the other dishes I found something interesting. The prawns and crab sandwiches tasted standard, but the oily sauce (prawns) and the sweet and sour puree (crab sandwiches) had exquisite flavor that made one want to finish them all with a piece of bread (which I did). On the other hand, the John Dory was nicely done, texture spot-on, juicy and savoy flavor, but the white sauce looked broken and watery, and the taste was a bit on the bland side. In general I enjoyed my experience, but I wonder if they could match the quality of the sauce and the main ingredients better :)

While in Killarney, which turned out to be one of our favorite stops while in Ireland, we wanted to…read morehit a true local restaurant and Cronins was just the spot! Cronins sits on a Main Street through Killarney and feels like old world Ireland from the road to the table. It has a storied past in Killarney, being open over 60 years at this point. The space is as you would expect, cozy, local and welcoming. The menu is rooted in local ingredients including seafood, beef and veggies. We popped in for an early dinner and had an appetizer of the Smoked Irish Salmon, which was fresher than expected. Such a simple dish, but it was executed perfectly. For our mains, we had a burger and the Shepard's Pie. Burger was good. It was juicy, well cooked and the onion relish thing they had going on was *chefs kiss*. The Shepard's Pie was spot on. Both were made with local beef, which was cool and extra tasty! Beyond the food, Cronins also has their own cider, which was phenomenal and oddly enough, the only cider I had the whole time I was in Ireland! That speaks more to the hold Guinness had on me and less to the variety of cider. After the cider, we went with a few house cocktails including the Clover Club and Dingle Donkey. Both were well prepared, vibrant and tasty! Service was uniquely local, friendly and fun! From the bartender to our server, they were both excellent! Overall, Cronins is a stellar spot in a great spot in Killarney! When we get back over the pond and to Killarney, Cronins is on the list to swing by again!

We start with a brie appetizer, which was so delicious. The brown bread with butter and a tomato paste was also quite good. I had the salmon with a side of mashed potatoes and vegetables. Wanting a healthier lunch we got just one order of fish & chips this time and one of beet salad and…read moresplit them between the two of us. Both were excellent. The fish was hake. This was easily the best of the four fish&chips we've tried so far in Ireland. Outstanding actually. The batter had the most perfect crunchy texture, wasn't too thick, and it adhered well. The fish was just-off-the-boat fresh, flaky and cooked just right. The portion was enormous - two fillets, one large and one medium, with a relatively small portion of good fries. The tartar sauce was tangy with tiny chopped pickles. Vinegar was available at the table. This was served with a small salad of lettuces, spinach, scallions, and onions. Price was surprisingly low given the portion, right around average for fish&chips in our experience so far. We ordered the entree salad with the locally made goat cheese add-on for a small extra charge. More excellent leafy greens, beets in small cubes, pomegranate seeds, picked onions, candied nuts and plenty of chèvre in large pieces. It was pre-dressed with vinaigrette and drizzled with balsamic vinegar. Very good, a far better choice for us than two orders of fried fish. Also on the menu were 3 other kinds of fish (monkfish, black sole, and plaice), each prepared differently. Shrimp scampi, seafood au gratin, and steamed mussels rounded out the seafood section. Oysters are on the menu but they weren't available that day. Other than seafood there were also burgers (beef and veggie), chicken wings, soup of the day, chowder, a steak, lasagna, pan roasted duck breast, cannelloni, liver paté, spring roll, and more. So a very extensive menu here, and not just the same things found everywhere. Sadly we didn't have room to try their desserts, which included sticky toffee pudding, banoffi pie, flourless chocolate cake, and meringue pie with raspberries and ice cream. They were hard to pass up.

I liked my lasagna and merlot. My husband thought the burger portion was bigger than most…read morerestaurants here. Funnily enough - we accidentally spilled a drink on a couple and paid for their drink and then in return, after they found out it was our honeymoon, the couple covered our meal!
