We arrived here on a 9pm on a Saturday night during peak holiday season. While we were in the Upper West Side, we were craving dollar pizza. This area is lacking quick dollar pizza spots, so Mimis is the closest thing you are going to get late night on a Saturday dollar pizza in the area. Despite it being holiday season, Mimis pizza was near to empty. There are plenty of seats to sit down and eat. Nothing too fancy just basic benches and chairs typical to expect of your dollar pizza spot. A slice can run up in price up to 4 dollars, but still solid in accordance to upper west side pricing. As for the pizza they have a lot to pick from between squares with various flavors to your basic circular pie flavors. I got one cheese pizza slice and a buffalo chicken slice for around 6 dollars and I was glad with my order. The buffalo chicken tasted quite solid, and the crust was well done. As for the cheese pizza slice, I think I had definitely had better but for its price and the location, it's a very solid choice to be the answer to your dollar pizza cravings. In the back there are spice shakers, and essential part to any dollar pizza spot. If craving cheap pizza late at night in the UWS, Mimis is some place I plan on coming back to. read more

This pizzeria was discovered by happenstance. I was literally pulling my luggage up out of the 86th St. subway station and saw Mimi's Pizza at the corner. I wasn't planning to go in. I had snacked on Amtrak en route to Penn Station. However, with my friend arriving to meet me at the corner at that moment, I glanced back and saw that it was open late. I suggested that we go in. My friend said she drops in now and then for one or two slices of pizza. As in most pizzerias, the pizzas are behind a glass case if they are meant to be sold as slices. I ordered a mushroom slice and my friend ordered a cheese slice. We sat down right by the glass cases. The tables were clean and I liked the level of illumination. But, most of all, I liked the casual friendliness of and small talk with the employees. On another day, I wound up leaving a little later in the day, so I was already looking at lunch. I went back to Mimi's, was helped fairly quickly, and got two slices of pizza and a soft drink. Again, the food was very good. The prices are fair for the context - the Upper West Side. There are a lot of interesting photos of celebrities and VIPs on the wall. The patronage is very diverse and relaxed. Who knows if the customers have bank but like to eat at corner pizzerias, bought a co-op when people were actually leaving New York, or are under some rent control umbrella. The whole experience was unpretentious and that's what made going here so easy. Giving out stars is a little tougher. After bookmarking it a few years ago, I finally got to try the pizza at Sacco in Hell's Kitchen-Midtown West and the slices were so much to my liking that I went back on another trip. I gave them 5 stars. I'm going to go with 4 strong stars for Mimi's Pizza, which does have a nicer and more spacious restaurant and friendlier service, so this says that it's strong and deserves a visit. read more

It was a cold night on the upper west side so I didn't want to venture too far for dinner. Luckily Mimi's is two blocks from my son's apartment. Located on 88th and Broadway Mimi serves traditional pizza and Sicilian style. From the minute, I walked in everyone was so friendly and so nice. I felt like I was a regular. There's seating inside and I did a couple of slices for takeout. The pizza is good. Crisp crust, a nice sauce and fresh mozzarella cheese. The specialty pizzas look pretty good too. There were a lot of choices. This is definitely going into the rotation when I'm in New York. read more

Grabbed a slice of plain and Sicilian to go and inhailed them in the car. Both were perfection. Crust was crisp and had great flavor. Sauce was savory with a hint of sweetness and had small chucks of tomato. Perfect amount of cheese. A true NY slice! read more

Very impressed with this pizza, and I love that is so close to my place. My husband and I share the vodka slice, the Burrata and the truffle mushroom. They were all so good, I can't decide which one I liked better between the Burrata and the vodka. We got our slices quick and the guy who helped us was friendly and helpful! A $4.50 pepperoni Sicilian square was decent. They're generous with the pepperoni coverage, and they cup up nicely and have those addictive puddles of pepperoni grease. They're generous bread is tall and has a nice crust below but gets a little doughy up top and is kind of bland. The sauce is distinctly sweet. read more

I was having a terrible day and just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, I came here and got a cheese slice. Legit the worst slice I've ever had. The crust was reminiscent of a soggy card board and the sauce had a sour after taste. I definitely wouldn't recommend getting a plain slice, maybe the grandma slices are better but I don't plan on finding out. Definitely won't be back here. The service is great though, everyone is kind and there is also a lot of seating. Good luck if you decide to come here. read more

We might be doing Mimi's all wrong. We've never gotten the Grandma Pies or the Denso pepperoni square, which seem to be all the rage. We've only had the "regular" pie -- which the kiddos' actual grandma (who doesn't like Grandma Pies) always orders for us when we come over. This review is solely based on just this portion of the menu. I'm into it. The crust is thin -- thinner, lighter, and more delicate than the classic NYC slice. To my surprise, the glutens are also very nicely developed, resulting in a pleasantly chewy texture. Despite the relatively slight crust, it is substantial enough to hold up to a pile of toppings. The standard toppings on the "regular" pizzas (e.g. cheese, pepperoni, peppers, olives) are... standard. Tomato sauce is not overly sweet or acidic. Mozzarella is not overly high brow -- it's shredded, just what my kids prefer -- and sometimes overly generous in application for our personal tastes, making the entire pizza a touch too salty. The real standout for the grownups, however, is the veggie pie (broccoli, cauliflower, mushroom, tomatoes, balsamic glaze & truffle oil). The harmonious mélange of vegetables generously topping the pizza is beautifully browned and perfectly distributed. And somehow the crust does not become soggy beneath all that vegetal goodness, even when eaten as leftovers the next day. Truffle oil used to finish the pie is strong, unsubtle, and probably a synthesized version -- but artificial flavors or not, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. There's more to the menu, not just standard and Grandma pies. You also have the mozzarella sticks, garlic knots, pizza rolls, heroes, and salads that you'll find at just about any NYC pizzeria. And there are gluten free cauliflower crust pizzas. I look forward to trying it all. read more

Loved the grandma squares pizza. The dough was crunchy and very light. They have one with burrata, which was fabulous. The pepperoni pizza had so much meat you couldn't see below it! I went here on my lunch break but before I went i stopped and grabbed some cash from the bank , I just wanted a regular slice so I gave the guy his name was YUKI $5 bill that I just received from the bank . He took my money said it felt fake even after he looked at it he proceeded to call his co worker and started speaking to him in another language the guy proceeds to come back with a money pen to make sure my $5 bill was real all of this over a slice. This is a new outpost of a well-regarded UES slice joint, and I expect it'll be popular with UWSers living nearby. The pizza is respectable, there's lots of seating and the guys and gals running the place are chill and friendly (they even threw in a couple of free garlic knots with my order). Mimi's will be especially welcome, I imagine, because Broadway in the high 80s is not exactly brimming with exhilarating eats. The crust and the ingredients are of good, standard quality. You'll find the familiar range of regular, grandma and Sicilian slices. But there are also some interesting and atypical toppings, e.g., they sell a veggie square slice featuring (among other things) cauliflower and a balsamic drizzle. I also appreciate that they do a spinach-artichoke slice; if you're craving Artichoke Basille's but don't feel like trekking south, it'll do the trick. All in all, a nice new option for pizza pies in the West 80s. read more

The regular NY pies are fine, but come for the grandma slices, which are fantastic. Perfectly balanced, tangy, altogether delicious.

This pizzeria is the real deal! It's the quintessential "New York Slice." The crust is flaky, but has that satisfying dough-crispness to it. The cheese is high-quality. The tomato sauce is tangy, and bright. I don't know, maybe it's something in the water, but whatever recipe they're using, it works. They're also friendly and quick, like you'd expect. The place is super clean as well. I tried the Sicilian-styled, "Grandma Bianca E Pepe Pizza," and it's rare that I regretted I didn't get two of those. It's a little dangerous, this place is literally downstairs from where I live. I'm going to have to up my exercise routine thanks to Mimi's. read more

Had a veggie slice which was decent enough, but the plain cheese slice fell way short. Kinda burnt, unspectacular sauce and cheese. You can do better elsewhere. read more

So, we went to this pizza place. Had watched it go from being closed to open and now it is open with people sitting both inside and outside.....it was time to find out about the pizza. Let me start by saying the personnel were very friendly. Nice people and they clearly have talent both interacting with customers and the product... The product-- well we ordered an extra large extra cheese pizza.... and brought it home-- and once we started eating there was silence. The silence is the good type-- when one is having an epiphany. The pizza was New York perfection-- with the dough being cooked to the right crispiness and a sweet sauce with all sort of gooey cheese.... will be back soon. read more

Their burrata grandma slice is chefs kiss, and tonight we tried the chocolate pudding from the refrigerator case and it was the perfect dessert. Pretty solid taste and a nice size for each slice. The service was fast and prices were fine. It seems like more of a "grab and go" spot but they did have some tables to sit at.
