Food always cold. Young lady at the drive thru was very rude. They rush you to place your order. Then don't listen to what you order.

We visited this great spot in the gorgeous Ross Bridge neighborhood to try something new for my…read moreson's birthday meal. Because of the intense Alabama heat, we chose to sit inside, though they have a really nice screened-in patio available. The restaurant is intimate but well laid out, featuring a couple of distinct dining areas and a bar. Since it was our first time, our server, Daniella, recommended the candied bacon bombs to start. They came with a side of cheese curds, and both were absolutely delicious. Even as small as the curds were, they had a perfect cheese pull! For our mains, I ordered the cowboy burger with an added egg and a side of sweet potato fries, while my son chose the shrimp and grits. My burger was incredible, a solid 9.5 out of 10. My son rated his shrimp and grits a 7, though he has a lot of experience with that dish to compare it to. Daniella provided fantastic service, checking in at just the right times without hovering. I later realized I forgot to ask if they do anything special for birthdays, but honestly, my son was probably glad I forgot! Overall, it was a great meal, excellent service, and a very cool environment.

Cheese with turnip greens and smoked sausage. Yum! The candied bacon bombs were delicious too. The appetizers were enough to get me full but to go I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and my friend ordered the blackened chicken pasta. She said it was tasty but it needed more sauce. Overall this place was a 10/10. Lively with great staff really makes this place a gem. I will definitely be back.

We made reservations for our party through…read morethe link on the restaurant's website (Resy), and the process was straightforward and easy to modify when our party size and time changed at the last minute. Wooden City is located off Morris Avenue in a shared row of older buildings. There's a private parking lot behind the building, and you can have your parking ticket validated at the restaurant. The location and vibe on Morris Avenue are really neat and uniquely Birmingham. It's a great addition to the city's dining scene. Our party of four started with drinks and shared three appetizers: the Bread and Butter, Heirloom Tomatoes, and Steak Tartare. My favorite was the Bread and Butter. It's house-made focaccia served with a sun-dried tomato spread and an oil dipping sauce. The bread was amazing. For my entrée, I ordered the Peel-and-Eat Shrimp from the appetizer menu. It was fabulous--a generous portion of large shrimp that were perfectly seasoned and grilled. For dessert, we shared the Chocolate Mousse and Blueberry/Blackberry Crisp. The crisp was my favorite. It was served hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream--an excellent way to finish the meal. While Wooden City doesn't have a large menu, everything we tried was very well done. I definitely recommend giving it a try, but don't be in a hurry. The service was a little slow during our visit.

We snagged some seats at the bar and had some drinks and shortly after that, our table was ready. And they were able to keep everything on one check, which was nice. No need to settle the tab and start a new one at the table. And the old fashioned I had was delicious. For food, we started with the Hungarian Hot Stuffed Peppers. These were pretty good and the heat gradually snuck up on you as you ate them. I don't know if it was because the heat was more intense as you worked your way towards the stem or just a gradual burn. Either way, these were good and worth the heartburn later. The thick focaccia helped with the burn a little. Speaking of heartburn, the pepperoni pizza may have contributed a bit to that too, but again, totally worth it. The cup-and-char pepperoni was charred nicely as were the edges and bottom! I love a nice bottom! These were easy to share between two of us. Service was amazing from the bartender to the waiter to the uber driver (who didn't really count, but nice job, man). We felt welcomed and I can see why the place was crowded on a Tuesday evening.

This Sports Bar is a great casual place to visit most anytime for a cool refreshing cold drink/meal…read morewith your friends or co-workers. Staff is always friendly and will make sure you are taken care of when you arrive with the food of your choice or a cold beverage. We have a regular group of people that visit here quite often as they keep different specials for everything whereas it is the food specials, the drink specials or upcoming events. We enjoy visiting each and every time. The location for us is nearby so we can round up the local neighbors and drop by to watch the different sports on TV or enjoy the weekly Trivia contest. The food menu is typical for a sports bar but is always served hot and fresh and the weekly specials are always interesting to try. Stop by sometime and give them a try.

It looked like only two waitresses were working, so it took a while for our order to be taken. We also did not realize we had to order at the bar. The food came out very quickly once we ordered. Surprisingly and happily quick. We had the burger and the buffalo chicken sandwich. The fries that came with the burger were actually really good. Very well-seasoned. The food overall was decent. The restaurant has a casual, no-frills vibe. It feels more like a neighborhood bar than a full restaurant. There are TVs playing sports. If you are looking for something relaxed and familiar, this place gives off that laid-back, down the street feel. A spot to grab something decent, enjoy some music, and head back home.

We were told the tables were reservation-only, which was completely understandable, so we sat at the bar. Shortly after sitting down, we were told we were in the wrong barstools and needed to move so there wouldn't be an empty seat between customers. Not a huge deal on its own, but it set the tone for a night where the service felt more overbearing than welcoming. I ordered a nonalcoholic Heineken, and when I finished it and declined another, the bartender jokingly called me a "little bitch." He laughed and was clearly trying to be funny, but we didn't have that kind of rapport and it just came across as uncomfortable and unprofessional. My wife wasn't feeling well that evening, so she ordered chicken and was only able to eat a few bites. When the bartender noticed she wasn't finishing it, he joked that he could take it home as scraps for his dogs. Again, probably intended as humor, but it didn't land well at all. I ordered the burger, which was around $20. I wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked, and unfortunately it came out extremely overcooked, to the point that parts of it tasted burnt. Any one of these things individually probably wouldn't have bothered us enough to write a review, but altogether the experience felt uncomfortable, and not particularly hospitable. We were hungry, on a time crunch before a concert, and mostly just wanted a good, relaxed meal. For the price and reputation, we expected a much better experience.
