The cabins are just behind the gas station and there are a few rooms attached to the gas station in the "lodge." There's a small clubhouse with a pool table and other games for guests. The accommodations were fine-very rustic and minimal, but comfortable. The service was a little rough, however. I felt like I was inconveniencing the staff when I came to check in and again in the morning when I came in with my family to get some food. Perhaps I caught them at bad times, but I never felt welcome. Or maybe it's just how folks treat outsiders here. Lots of people in small towns don't like visitors.

Our server also covered another big group in that same space. She did very well with the order taking and food delivery handling everything with competent efficiency. Did have help from Jim (the owner) with the serving, however. The food was wonderful! Nothing fancy, just well-made, hot from the kitchen American diner grub. We had chicken fried steak, Philly cheese steak sandwiches, Swiss cheese mushroom burgers, Jim's excellent chicken sandwiches, Navajo tacos, and entree salads. I added onion rings (some of the best I've ever had) and a well-made strawberry shake to my order. The Ponderosa Grill is highly recommended and the people in Emery County are very fortunate to have it in their midst!!

The ponderosa burger was amazing along with the sweet potato fries. If the restaurant could make a change, it would be real mashed potatoes.

After waiting a while, I noticed a kiosk for to-go orders was at the front. We had our dog with us so I ordered, entered my email for the receipt (never got it) and then waited outside. I didn't know if they were going to text me when it was ready but after awhile I went in to check on it and my food was just sitting there in the counter by the kiosk. So I just took it. Again, no one at the front to even talk to or ask about it. Ambiance: a few chairs and tables under an awning out front so we ate with the dog. The building itself is a highlight, a charming old historic structure with genuine ambiance that a lot of restaurants would kill for. The waitstaff were friendly and attentive, and the bathrooms were clean. On the hospitality side, no complaints. The food is where things fall apart. They bill themselves as a pub, but the beer selection is canned only, which is a stretch of the concept. The menu leans entirely on frozen, fried fare cooked in oil that has seen better days. It's the kind of food that makes you appreciate what pub food is supposed to be. If you're passing through and need a meal, it works. Go in with modest expectations, enjoy the building, and appreciate the service. Just don't go in hungry for anything memorable.
