Popped into this cute little local eatery for some lunch. The waitress was eager to seat us & get our order. The food didn't take particularly long to come out & all was fresh & hot. I enjoyed my shrimp po boy with crispy tots. My husband had the chicken tenders which were each a good size & lightly breaded. Soft drinks were $4/each so we stuck with water. I can totally see the vision someone had to take this coffee shop and turn it into a sports bar. But just hanging a bunch of big screen TVs on the walls, serving bar food and having staff wear sports jerseys does not a sports bar make. However, it's a start. The service was friendly and eager to please, although a bit slow. The food was rather disappointing-lacking flavor or originality, although fine enough if you're coming to watch the game with friends and want something to nosh on. It's not a food destination, but a local hangout in the making. I can see potential here, with time and some commitment to excellence. read more

We loved our dinner on the Saturday before so we went and tried breakfast. Again, service was sharp and kept us filled up with coffee as we needed, brought a box for the extras from our omelettes and took care of the tab at the table. Hubs had a smothered burrito, Daughter had the veggie omelette with a potato cake and I had the Chile Verde omelette with tater tots. Waitress and I were surprised that Hubs managed to eat that whole burrito! Daughter and I managed half our omelettes, as they were HUGE, the tots were crispy and seasoned well, the potato cake was crispy on the outside, and potato-y inside. Although my husband's patty melt and fries were good, I will be reviewing what I ordered, which was the Reuben and coleslaw. The coleslaw was the worst I've ever had, I think somebody forgot to season it. It had no sauce, no salt. The Reuben was tough and so hard to eat. The meat was dry and hard in spots, and they either toasted the bread too much or left it out of its wrapper too long. The service was really good. The ambiance is very unpleasant, loud noises coming from people at other tables, and from the kitchen, and the tv screens were annoying. read more

In Regards to Service: I made a 10 person birthday celebration Dinner reservation. Upon being seated, our "Server" (their wording, from receipt), advised us that since we had "more than 8 people in our group" it was Roots 89 Road House policy to charge a 22% TIP, and to automatically add it onto our bill. We needed to acknowledge and accept this amount before we could order. Since I was paying for the entire meal, this left me in an awkward/uncomfortable moment. Do I insist on being allowed to give a Tip amount that I felt was appropriate to the service we actually received...which can only be accurately determined AFTER the meal service is actually performed)...or do I agree to their arbitrary and seemingly high "22%" Tip amount? To avoid any scene, and since we had already been seated and were now eager to eat, I reluctantly agreed. This 22% wasn't really the main issue - because if the service was fantastic - I will always tip even more. I just didn't like their pre-determining my Tip amount. This really became an issue to me when the overall service was far less than exceptional. Let me explain: Although busy, not every seat in the somewhat small roadside diner seating area was filled with customers. Still, the server mentioned several times that both he and the Cooks were very busy on that night. These were unprompted attempt to explain why he wasn't able to serve our Appetizer (Mozzarella Sticks, which were very tasty), until well after the rest of the meal had already been brought out & served. He also mentioned it again when there was a delay bringing out our drink-refill orders. Speaking of Re-Filled Drinks: this was something I was EXTREMELY displeased with for basic Health & Sanitary reasons. Normally, when you ask for a drink re-fill, they bring your out a new glass. Here, at Roots 89 Road House, they ask you to hand them your glass (but had me keep the straw...which, not wanting to set it on the table, or on my barbecue food plate - I basically ended up holding until he returned 5-10 minutes later). Now think about this type of refill process. The customer drinks from the glass - touching their mouth around the rim area of the glass - then the Server most likely presses that same area of the glass against a refill-lever on the soda machine. This is an obviously very unsanitary process. Most places use a different glass for refills - to avoid cross-contamination among multiple customers. Also, our Server was either too busy (or it is not this Restaurant's practice), to clear used items like empty plates or discarded straw wrappers, etc., placed at the end of the table. All in all, not a high-tip deserving meal service performance. Although all 10 in our party said they liked the taste of their meal, I found that the beef brisket I ordered, (which is a naturally tough cut of meat), wasn't cooked to typical cut-with-a-fork style tenderness. It tasted good, but I had quite a bit of difficulty cutting it with the only provided utensils - a butter knife and fork. Another item of concern is how the Server came out while we were still eating our meal, and said that I needed to settle my bill. I thought it very odd, as he didn't even hand me the normal pre-receipt to examine. Instead he held out a credit card machine used to swipe my payment card, and asked me to sign for the "$222.56" amount shown - using my finger on the screen. (Again, very unsanitary while I am still eating my meal with my Onion Ring finger-food.) I asked for a receipt, which he later brought out to me while we continued eating. Upon examination of the receipt, I discovered not only do they auto-add the 22% tip (for their under-staffed and unsanitary service methods) - but they auto-added an unexpected "Credit Card Surcharge (3.00%)" fee to the bill. In my case, this was only a $5.02 fee - but they are breaking Utah Tax Law by adding this extra fee to the meal total - and then charging Sales Tax on the fee & meal's combined amount. This extra amount in tax isn't big - but it is illegal to do it this way - especially when I had no idea they charged this 3% credit card fee in the first place. I would have just paid cash. This Restaurant serves tasty food, and has potential - but I would not recommend it. It is a bit pricey for the food you receive - [example: my "1 BBQ Plate" (meat only price on receipt was an odd $17.01), came with "two sides"... so I chose Onion Rings (additional $6.99 on receipt), and Mashed Potatoes (an additional $4). I had asked if the potatoes could be "loaded with butter & sour cream", and was told "yes". Yet it oddly came without any sour cream and butter. Instead, it was topped with cheese sprinkles, bacon bits and green onions (...for an additional $4 charge]. Our meal totaled $167.37. The added auto-Tip, fees & incorrect sales tax charges added another $55.19 (or 32.98%). Seemed high, for the meal service experience. read more

The customer service is impeccable, the food is even better. Their wings are tender and their burgers are amazing too. Tots are crunchy. Must I say their ranch is absolutely delicious as well. Clean establishment. The scary parking lot is 100% worth the food. I hope to come here again. read more

You can't go wrong with any of the choices here. The food is excellent. My husband & I moved to Sanpete from Seattle five years ago. We were thrilled to discover Corner Station in Fairview, then Roots 89 Grill in Spring City, now we have Roadhouse in Ephraim & the 1875 Coffee House at Wasatch in Mt. Pleasant too. These foodies are have happy tastebuds. Mardell Kitchens is synonymous with great food. All the decor in these places is fun. The servers are consistently friendly & hospitable. read more

I took my 28 high school students here for lunch on a visit to Snow College. My grilled cheese and brisket with tater tots were absolutely delicious. The students also enjoyed theirs, many having the mac & cheese varieties, burgers and chicken. The service was efficient and friendly and our server was awesome as she handled us all. read more

The food was about average, think of something you would see at McDonalds or Wendy's. The price for the quality of the food was outrageous, the shrimp were all frozen and along with their steaks. The service was slow and our server, heather, was grumpy and took forever to bring us drinks and our food. Now I don't know if it was her or the kitchen that took so long on the food but it was almost an hour before we got our main courses. I will not be surprised if they turn this place around in a couple months but I will not be returning for a good while. read more

The food was excellent. I had one of their burgers with a side of baked beans. The beans were delicious. The burger was also first rate. The Waiter was great. He made sure we were well taken care of during our visit. The only complaint is their haphazard parking lot. They need to widen the pull in and out on their lot. Me and my grandmother finally had the time to come try it out! We had been to the one in Spring City so we knew we could trust this location as well! It was delicious! The food was brought out in a timely manner and it was nice and warm when it got to you. The servings were enough to fill you up AND allowed you to take some home. The staff made sure we were well taken care of and allowed us more time to decide what we wanted, but not too long that we were sitting around waiting for her to come back. The environment of the restaurant made you feel like you were right where you belonged. If you wanted to watch the game for that night you could, but if you wanted a good place for a nice dinner with your grandma it was perfect! ps. GET THE ONION RINGS!! read more
