Beautiful location and delicious food for a high tea. We went on a Saturday at noon and enjoyed the variety of sandwiches, scones and desserts with, of course, a nice selection of teas, All were lovely and classic. I'm a huge dessert (especially chocolate) fan and my only slight criticism is that the chocolate dessert had a very thick outer shell which was a bit too heavy for me. A thinner shell would have complimented the insides without overpowering it. The location in the Ned Hotel was airy and bright and there was a three piece band playing jazzy versions of pop songs (e.g., Toxic by Britney Spears!). They were very good but it made it a bit difficult for conversations, probably because our seat was so near to the stage. Our waiter was attentive and helpful. We enjoyed seeing the variety of people there as well, including kids with their grandmothers, young couples, London residents, and tourists. It's not super dressy and a jacket is not required, although I wouldn't recommend going there in a t-shirt or ath-liesure. A super nice experience! read more

Millie's was exactly what we were looking for for our high tea! We went on a Friday afternoon and were able to get a reservation day of. This place is located near Bank Station and is in a grand building with other restaurants all in this large open space. But even with that, the experience still felt elegant and intimate. The staff was lovely and our main server was super cheerful and bubbly. He described all the sandwiches and desserts in great detail and even gave us a little history on them as well as his own personal faves. The tea selection was great, with ~10 teas to choose from. The food was DELICIOUS. We had second servings on all the sandwiches and as we were too full to finish our desserts, the staff helped us pack them up to go for later. This is a phenomenal choice for a high tea in London for both the food, ambiance and location. read more

Oh my gosh ( American accent) !!! This place was beyond a doubt the most amazing place to have tea time! My hubs and I randomly found this spot as we were walking about because the place I originally wanted to go to was temporarily shut down. I was so disappointed originally but once we found this hidden gem it all passed. We ended up walking past the place twice because from the outside you could not tell what it was. We talked with the doorman who was kind enough to ask us what we were looking for saying we looked lost... well obviously lol.... He kindly showed us exactly where we wanted to go and we found it! Once we walked in I was blown away by how beautiful it was! Totally reminded me of a bank from the 1800's! The place the huge! There were actually 4 different restaurants inside so it makes sense why we got a little mixed up. We got seated right away which was such a surprise. The hostess was so kind and so was the wait staff. We got the full afternoon tea. Which came with tea sandwiches, scones w/ jam & clotted cream and of course delicious little decadent desserts up top! The sandwiches were how can I say it....Interesting lol.... I think I can hard pass on those next time but the scones and dessert levels were exquisite!!! The tea was so delicious too! Plus they will bring you as much refills of everything as you want. However afternoon tea although delicate looking is surprisingly filling. We couldn't even finish the first round and decided to take some of it to go. A local friend recommended The Ned, for its classic feel and multiple restaurant options. We landed on Millie's Lounge for its British fare. 1920s architecture sets this venue in a classic style, with a lively, live band mid-Ned. Had a wonderful bottle of house white wine. The Scotch Egg to start was flawless and deliciously prepared. Would order again! Had the ribeye, medium-rare, and it was a bit fattier in a spot than expected but delicious. Venture downstairs to the old Bank of England vault! Would definitely return, and with so many other restaurant options it's probably hard to go wrong. read more

We went to Millie's for High Tea. We chose it because it was close to our hotel, and because it seemed to offer a nice experience. Well, we were not disappointed at all. Everything was "wow" from from the music, to the booth seating, to the service and of course the tea and food. We had a great time. I will say that it was a lively ambiance, so if you're looking for quiet, this probably isn't the place. But for us, it was perfect. read more

I had a lovely time at Millie's! Be sure to make a reservation because this place can get packed! I got the Afternoon Tea w a glass of champagne which costed £40. Not too bad as the champs was Perrier-Jouët. Loved the scones and the clotted cream and jam. That was my favorite part. The tea was good too. I loved being able to hear a live band/singer play while enjoying afternoon tea at The Ned hotel. This place is London's new hotspot and it should not be missed. The atmosphere in this restaurant is absolutely fantastic. A beautifully designed space (plush pink sofas with pillows! Mahogany and marble! Specially patterned green teacups and plates for afternoon tea) with professional waitstaff, sitting in the grand lobby of The Ned London, a former bank turned lavishly trendy hotel. This is a relatively unknown but fantastic place to have afternoon tea, which my mom and I enjoyed on a weekday afternoon with prior reservation. The afternoon tea was wonderful, with complementary refills on sandwiches (that's when you know it's real) and hot water for the tea. The desserts were great and the scones decent, though warmed would be better! Definitely come here for the superb atmosphere and upscale service. Lots of banker types here on the weekdays in suits, so be sure to dress well. read more

Located in the lobby of The Ned, this restaurant is absolutely charming! The decor is old fashioned, chic, & cute. I came for breakfast on a Saturday morning. I ordered a 3-egg omelette with mushrooms, spinach, & comté cheese. The omelette was big & fluffy, which made it worth the £10. Really good. I requested that the food come quick, as I was in a hurry, & they had no trouble fulfilling my wish. The only issue with this place is that they are seemingly short-staffed. For most of my meal, my water glass was empty because I was unable to flag down a waiter. However, coupled with the decor and the food, I would gladly return! read more

In the front left atrium of the 5 star newcomer, the Ned, this British brasserie is the ideal spot to take your parents when they come to see you in London or to humbly woo clients over a respectable lunch, particularly if they haven't yet paid this Bank-side beast of a hotel a visit. Millie's Lounge locks down all your favourites - mince and potatoes, fish and chips, pork belly, steak, burger, and shellfish. Although the food is not inspired, it is comforting and easy to navigate for those who are exotic-food-shy (thinking of the grandparents here). The lounge is significantly quieter than the rest of the grand hall (considerate for those grandparents again) and impressive, featuring palatial green marble columns and floods of light from the elongated arched windows, and the salmon-colored upholstered lounge sofas. Was the food as impressive? Not really. My potato gnocci and wild mushroom dish was not portion-parallel to my dining compatriots' Banham chicken, chipolatas, and stuffing nor the lemon sole. Everything was fine but there was no wow-factor. Also, the staff was hard to get a hold of and not as attentive with water etc as it should have been. However, for the prestige of the establishment, the price is right and the food is predictably pleasing. read more

They were small, flat, and like something you would get at Sainsbury. The desserts were also Tesco quality at best. Service was nothing to write home about. We went for the feast and it was fantastic. The food was excellent, honestly so much of it and all so good. You can roll from breakfast, to lobster, to roast dinner to dessert to cheese. I think you would struggle to find that anywhere else in London for £35. The roast dinner was second to none, i think mainly because of the meat and the cauliflower cheese (which i dont even normally like!) The one disappointing thing, which was very poor was the size of the table they crammed us on initially. It was suitable for two girls, and there were two couples, including two rugby boys trying to squeeze in. It took a fair bit of complaining before we were moved. If this happens to you refuse from the get go. We then sat in the restaurant next door on a proper table and it was delightful. read more

So this is a hard review to write, because I have never recommended people go to a place where I thought it was a two star dinner. I added a third star because their staff handled some things well, but overall the dinner was a disaster. Food was just so-so, but our waiter was stunningly incompetent. Nice, but clueless. We asked about a couple of the dishes and he disappeared for ten minutes to check with the kitchen. We asked about the two (not six, two) different types of oysters and which was saltier and he had to go ask again. I asked if they had iced tea and he didn't know that either. One of our party ordered a whole lobster and they brought him a half. When he pointed it out they said they could bring him another half, but if would take another 15 minutes. I ordered a Diet Coke, it took 15 minutes, and they brought a regular Coke. They later started clearing the table while we were still eating, and took away some food that was still up for grabs. Ok. Now for the better side. The manager brought new orders of the French fries they took away, and they came almost immediately. They did not charge us for the lobster, they treated us to dessert, and they didn't add on the traditional gratuity. (We left one in cash anyway). So they did pretty much everything they could to make up for sloppy (really sloppy) service. More importantly, while the food was so-so and the service was mediocre at best, the place was cool, the live jazz was great, and I would recommend the place for drinks and snacks. So instead of the 2 it probably deserves for our dinner, I give them a 3 read more

An extra star for the space and food; which were comforting and tasty. Unfortunately, service has a long way to go. 1. Was not given any information about availability of the Sunday Feast when we sat down. When we tried to order it from the menu, the waitress (who took awhile to return after giving us the menus) told us in a condescending tone that it had been moved to New Year's Day with no apology, expression of sympathy or suggestions on what to order in lieu. (Don't understand why they insisted on a credit card to hold the lunch booking if there wasn't going to be any special menu that day either. There were also quite a few empty tables so it didn't look like they were booked out either). 2. Served us our mains without utensils - (they removed them after the appetisers and it took ages to flag anyone down in order to ask for the missing flatware.) 3. The same waitress who took our orders was also really rough handling the removal of dishes and glasses - clanging them carelessly (& really noisily) against the table. Almost like she was mad at us for being there. 4. Had to chase down another server for glasses of water; which stayed empty once consumed as no one bothered to check in on us. 5. Finally, it took a good 10-min to flag anyone down for the bill. I think they purposely don't want to look around and make eye contact so as to do as little as possible. (And it's not like they were heaving with customers or understaffed at the time). The concept of The Ned is great. However, the wait staff (at Millie's in particular) clearly need more training on how to execute better. Had dinner at Cecconi's 2-wks prior and the service there was spot-on. What should've been a nice new year's eve lunch was ruined by staff who just didn't appear to care about doing their jobs well. read more
