This was the coolest pub I've ever been to and we just happened to stumble in. Proximity is what lead us here and man were we lucky. It was a Thursday night and it seemed like the bar was pretty busy when we walked in. We decided to walk towards the back and see if we could find a table. The "back" kept going and going and going. This looks like the Keebler elves invited us in for a pint. There were staircases going down and up all over. We walked past a total of 4 bars in this place before we decided to sit in front of a fireplace (because why wouldn't they have one). It got very hot very quickly but luckily a couple was getting up from a table nearby so we moved. The table we were at was big so multiple times we invited other people to sit because this place was SO BUSY. On a Thursday? Both groups we chatted with were locals who we shocked we found this place and mentioned this is where they bring any out of towners when they visit. They mentioned that there are always great musicians too. They were so right. The musician was awesome, took requests, had an amazing voice and played for hours. This was such a fun cool place, highly recommend!

Unplanned visit to an Irish pub for Fish n chips. Oh my! The mix of comfort, tradition, and an eclectic atmosphere made it hard to beat enjoying fish 'n' chips in this pub. We all ordered the classic, and it absolutely delivered. Paired that with a pint of Guinness and it was all gone. The fish came out golden and perfectly crisp, the batter was light and airy without being oily. The fish was tender and flaky, cooked just right so it melted in every bite. A squeeze of lemon and a side of tangy tartar sauce tied everything together wonderfully. The presentation was simple, served on a warm plate with a small mound of mushy peas. The cozy atmosphere was fun with different nooks all throughout the several levels of the restaurant. Pick your own seating and order at the bar. Staff is pretty attentive.

Such a fun place! Must go if you are a fan of Lord of the Rings/Harry Potter or anything medieval. They were playing music that reminded me of a renaissance fair. Fish was huge and really good!

One of the oldest bar/taverns in London. Situated within a tree house right off the river themes.

What an amazingly crazy place! This place looks unassuming from the outside but is crazy once you get inside - the space goes on and on and on! Very large space with lots of nooks with different vibes. Can't speak for their food as we got drinks only. Their selection is as good as any other pub. Overall super loud but very fun! Recommended to my friends to visit also and would recommend to others as well for an experience

Good rustic Irish bar, with good selections of beer. The bar counter is really well operated. A bit expensive though compared to other areas

Very mixed reviews of this place on Yelp, which tells it is attracting a lot of American tourists, and that the reaction is very mixed. i fell in the mostly negative camp. Decided to stop in, and check out the multi-level bar, and it definitely is unique. It was quite busy inside, with folks socializing and drinking, but we also wanted to eat dinner, so wandered a bit until we found an open table. Menus are given at each table, and there is no table service. Once you decide what you want, you go to the bartender to place your order. The female bartender I approached was off, didn't greet me when I smiled and just nodded when I asked if I could place a food order. We kept it simple, and asked for a bacon cheeseburger only, fish and chips, and a Guinness along with a recommended Irish Red on tap. She told me she only had Guinness...I thought she misunderstood me, but when I repeated my question, she said she only had Guinesss products and had a good IPA (which is not what I wanted). So I just asked for a glass of tap water, which she immediately provided. She did a nice job of pouring the Guiness, waiting to make sure I didn't get too much foam. I then paid for everything at once. No itemized receipt is offered, just a credit card receipt, which only gives a total (£42.11). She told me to wait so she could give me a number to take back to the table..so I did, but then proceeded to ignore me. I gave a quick 'Hi' and wave, and she then told me not to 'worry about it'. I was getting irritated by this point, but not all bartenders are friendly, so figured needed to cut my losses and go. Well, I don't think she placed my order at all. We waited 20 minutes, and then I went to another bartender to ask 'How long it usually takes to get a food order'...'Oh, 10 - 15 usually'. So I told him I had been waiting for 20 minutes, and he asked me what my number was. Yeah, that got a scowl from me and a response. He said he would check. I then sat down, and about a minute later, he told me "They are making it...a couple more minutes please". Well about 7 minutes later..I was still waiting, so was going to come back up...but then saw someone from below come up with our two plates. The food itself was OK, but certainly at the bottom of our meals we've had on our trip, especially for the price. There was one large piece of fish (£17), expertly battered and fried and came with a thick, really good tartar sauce...but no opportunity for malt vinegar since at this point, we were on our own. It wasn't cod, thinking it was haddock...a thinner white fish. The burger (£16)was good but not large, but had other toppings like thousand island dressing on it, so my wife wouldn't eat it. i should have been more specific. Both came with chips (fries) and was good. They had single use ketchup packets at the table.. The Guinness was excellent. So summary: OK food, bad service, non-value prices, weird selection of beer. Would skip it for another British pub.

My boyfriend and I accidentally came across this pub when trying to escape the madness that is West End before the show start. We were able to pop in and get a quick drink and the bartenders were very friendly. The place did a great job of accommodating so many people

Fish and chips with fries and mushy peas

This place had one killer of an atmosphere. One of the neatest multilevel bars I've ever seen. There, I said it. Bar. We ordered food and I was not impressed. Their system of ordering in Europe is a little different as you went to the bar to order drinks and food. I ordered fish and chips, which came with fries and yes, mushy peas. The fish was very bland, but to be fair, all of the F and C I ordered in England was bland. I guess i'm a catfish kind of guy. All the other food ordered was average. Only the atmosphere raised the rating.

This might be a slightly biased review, because it's summertime now and I'm in a good mood and I like the outdoors and any pub that has a massive beer garden is a great bar in my opinion. I suppose what also grants this lovely establishment my 5 starts is their food. We were wandering about one evening and decided to get a quick bite to eat. We had the mushrooms on bread and deep fried camembert. Both were absolutely delightful, and very well priced (like £4 or something). It has quite a lot of seating indoors, dogs are welcome, and they also have fun games to play. yay.

Perfect for Saturday afternoon and evening beverages on a summers day and they even reserve areas in the garden for groups - perfect. Drinks are served at your average London prices and they have a great menu, and BBQ running at the weekend. I opted for a snack of chips, cheese and gravy - they were so good, I had to order a second portion. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming even when they were having a nightmare with the tills not opening. A lovely afternoon was had and I'll definitely be back again over summer!

This is a fairly typical pub but with lower food prices than all the places over on Marchmont Street. Mostly local, busy after work, but with a strong contingent of Irish ex-pats. Between 5 and 6:30 one evening I heard accents from Down, Donegal, Cork, and Dublin, plus all the native Londoners who work nearby. The food is the usual fare, in theory the dining room is in the back but they'll let you eat out in the pub area or at the bar, especially if you're alone. Again, prices aren't bad: 5.50 for fish & chips, compare to 8 or 9 at the pubs in Marchmont Street. Decent quality. Those are takeaway prices for Bloomsbury, but McGlynn's is just enough off the beaten path yet within a busy area. If you're not local (and I am certainly not local, just research work over the summer) you might get some funny looks, but the regulars were nice enough once I joined in the conversations; that night there was some debate over whether Midsummer's night was the same as the Solstice (it's not!)
