Popped in to kill time before heading to winter wonderland. The bar was cozy and decorated for the holiday. We sat ourselves but had to clean off the table. It wasn't busy in the pub at that time, but it's okay. After looking over the menu ordered food before 3pm and was told they had to call the kitchen to see if they were going to make our order (the pub closes at 11pm) so that caught us off guard. Luckily they did make our meals, but didn't serve anyone else food after us. Went to use the ladies room upstairs and was startled when I walked into the restroom and a man was inside. I thought I went into the wrong restroom, but nope gents bathroom was downstairs as well as ADA. The food was just okay. The broth the mussels were served in lacked flavor and the chips were overly salted. With ketchup the chips were better. The pints were good but that's all I'd come back for. read more

This is the sorriest excuse for a pub I've ever encountered. The food ranged between tasteless to inedible, much of the serve ware was not clean nor were the tables, service was non-existent bordering on feeling the workers were annoyed we were there and the bathrooms were appalling. The only positive was that you could buy beer (provided you brought to your table from the bar yourself) and it was dark (probably so the glaring dirtiness wasn't as obvious.) Great food and beer! Only thing that could be seen as a negative (if you don't know ahead of time) is that you must order your food and drinks at the bar. A server does not come to your table to take your order. This didn't bother us at all but I did see another table leave after sitting and not being served for some time. The front of the menu says "please order at the bar" but this is the only place I saw anything written about that. It would be nice if the servers kept an eye out for newcomers to let them know how it works. Best pub in London. We were greeted enthusiastically by the bartender upon entry. Attentive service and excellent food. Wife wanted a Red Bull. He said they don't carry, but the bar upstairs which is closed did, and he went up and pulled down two for the wife. Food portions were huge, hot and delicious. Pints hit the spot to get us ready to watch a show that evening. Conversation and people set us at ease as tourists. Walked from our hotel the Intercontinental. My only regret was not finding this earlier in our trip. Our tour with Disney took us to a pub "The Inn of Court" and it sucked. This was the real deal, and we visited again and were greeted like old friends. I now have a new favorite restaurant. read more

This pub is situated just off Park Lane and is generally used by the local workers for lunch and after work drink. It has a very traditional London pub feel to it and is generally inoffensive but it isn't the greatest of pubs and whilst it does get busy it just doesn't do it for me. Yes it is fine if you are in the area but personally I would rather go to one of the others in the area or even spend a bit more by going to one of the many first class hotels in the area that all have good bars. If you don't want to pay those prices then seek out another pub nearby. It certainly shouldn't be a place that you seek out on a night out in the West end as there are far better elsewhere. If you do end up here, they do sell food which is traditional pie and mash / fish and chips and is perfectly o.k. read more

We stopped in after taking a long walk around Hyde Park on a cold sunny day. We wetn in at around 1430, and the place was almost empty, but warm and inviting. Some workers cam in at 1500ish and ordered a few pints. Always a good sign when the local worker frequent the place. We had chicken pot pie and a pulled pork sandwich. If you veer slightly off of Piccadilly after running screaming past the Hard Rock, you may find yourself in front of the R&C. If you're in the mood for a cold pint in a warm place, look no further. (For a warm pint in a cold place, look across the street for a dilapidated bench in Green Park.) After spending some time in a more posh establishment earlier in the night, I was craving a simpler experience and I got it here in spades. Small but welcoming pub, with a decent tap selection (+1 to the Staropramen), plenty of seats, and friendly staff. I don't get the hate, mate. Sure, it's not a modern pub or bar with bells and whistles and thumping music giving way to raucous dancing. But for a Thursday evening, it was close to perfection. Two pints came out to about £7.50 and we were left to do my favourite London pass time: rattle on with your drinking buddy while getting swiftly pissed. The owner of the joint came over later and chatted to us, we ended up staying past closing to finish up fresh pints. I didn't expect much out of the place, but I'm sad we didn't discover it sooner during our time in London. This is basically the closet that you are going to get to having a beer on Park Lane without actually going into one of the hotels (and in my opinion they don't actually count, particularly since I have never been a huge fan of lobby bars and cafes). As it turns out this basically a chain pub (Wetherspoons I believe) and after a few days in London I worked out how you could tell (other than looking at the label just under the pubs name) and that was because they all seem to have exactly the same wallpaper. Since this was the first I visited I didn't pick up on that and thought the wallpaper was rather cool, however after visiting something like ten of them, and seeing the exact same wallpaper on the walls, it starts to get a little dull. As for the pub, well nothing all that fantastic, and not really one of those pubs that I would recommend going out of your way to visit, unless you are playing a game of Monopoly of course. read more

Monopoly Pub Crawl - Stop #10 - Park Lane (Dark Blue) We've started to get into the prime real estate on the Monopoly Board and what better place than Park Lane? Now Park Lane is a pretty jazzy place in real life but that leads to the problem of just where a bunch of semi-drunks can get in for a half-pint of something. Luckily, the Rose & Crown is still going strong on the corner of Old Park Lane and they are somewhat happy to see crawlers along with confused tourists and slightly annoyed locals. Keep in mind, this is a fairly small pub so large groups of crawlers may need to take it in turns to get your drinks in. Also, you'll probably have taken the bus down and if you can't wait for the Rose & Crown (or are worried you'll fall down the steps - they are tricky at this pub!) then duck into the Hilton to use their bathrooms. Just try to at least look responsible. Otherwise, it's a pub with the fairly standard drinks and on the pricier end of the range - not a surprise given its location though. This is definitely a quickie - get in, get out, get on your way! read more

We stumbled upon this pub when we were looking for dinner and I am so happy we found this hidden gem. They have many incredible local beers on tap so you're guaranteed to find one (or many) you'll like. The food exceeded our expectations. I ordered the Steak and Red Wine Pie which was easily the best meal I've had in London thus far. It was so rich and flavorful, especially with the mashed potatoes. My dad got the Mac and Cheese and said it was the best Mac and cheese he has ever had....and let me tell you the man has had a lot of Mac and cheese in his life! My mom got the Fish and Chips on recommendation from another patron and she was not disappointed! As if I wasn't impressed enough by Rose & Crown, the staff treated us like family. Shout out to Dan and Frank for being the best people in all of London and making our evening even more great! Definitely ask them for bar recommendations if you happen to be traveling throughout the UK - they sure do know their beer and whiskey.
