I hand him my Passport and without even looking at it, just sees that I am from the USA and asks me how many drinks have I had tonight. WOW! You want a tasty fry up in cute trendy Camden Town this is the place to go! I found it doing a search for best fry ups in London. The service was excellent and I tipped American style. I ate there with a Scottish pal and gave him my blood sausage. I am sure it was good. We dined al fresco on the patio outside. I was full for the rest of the day. read more

Saw on the posted menu they served the Cumberland Sausage breakfast sandwich and a full English brekkie. We wanted to walk a bit before deciding where to eat. After walking around at the market, none of the food stalls appealed to me, so we decided to go back. First mistake!! Our party was a little hesitant, but we decided to stay because of the breakfast sandwich. It's okay to judge a book by its cover for this place--what you see IS what you get. We walked in and immediately didn't feel welcome, but should we have? It was a LOCAL pub, after all. I went up to the bar and felt largely ignored, while others asking for a glass of ice/alcohol, got their drink orders straightaway. The fully bearded (bushy & reddish) bartender was a jerk--continuing to ignore me all the while serving drinks and taking orders from other customers. His counterpart, the little tatted woman was equally rude to us when she took our food order. The only person that was nice was the black girl who wiped down our table when we asked. Second mistake was the food...looked better on the menu than on the plate. Overall, the sandwich was okay. Definitely forgetable food here and really don't waste your time if you are a tourist--go elsewhere because they clearly don't want "outsiders" business. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! I've been coming to the Elephant's head for years(not too often). I was just assaulted (spat in the face, spilled my drink) by a random stranger and kicked out for it. The man was never kicked out for it as far as I'm aware. I don't go very often because I'm aware the drinks are extremely overpriced and the venue is known for being a gathering place for racists and violent idiots. The owner did nothing but treat me like garbage. The bar staff are excellent. The music is the same every night to the point where you could time the playlist. read more

It was a freezing decembers evening, and starting snow so my boyfriend and I were searching on the hunt for a cosy place to rest are weary bones... We trecked high and Low through Camden Town, literally walking into about 5 other places until I found the perfect spot so grab a beer and have a cuddle. Walking into this cute little warm pub, I instantly felt at home, and knew this was the place for us. There was a really nice bunch of people, chatting about films, music, and christmas... they two of what I call ' snug pits' where you can relax and lye out on one of their leather sofas, and catch abit of snuggle time. Its a small pub, with a massive long bar, but it's really chilled out, and homely. A nice retreat from the manic tourists outside barging their way forward on the hunt for a festive bargain. First of all, Camden Town is AMAZING. You HAVE to go there if you are visiting London. Most importantly if you ARE in Camden Town, don't dare leave without paying a visit to the good ol' Elephants Head. This adorable Victorian Pub pulls my heart strings, and I have made a point to visit every time I've visit London because I truly miss it while away! I was sold when I stepped foot onto the classic Black and White styled floors, but the long bar offers plenty of seating for those traveling on their own, and plenty of seats for groups of friends (or newly made friends) across from the bar! They offer a great selection of beverages but my all time favorite has to be Camden Hells. This was one of the most active bars in terms of people interacting with one another, but in a very inviting style. Being an American wandering alone in Camden does not last long, people hear your accent and suddenly you have found yourself in a bar that you feel like you've been to a million times, surrounded by a group of strangers that treat you like you're family. I can't wait to return to Elephants Head, until then I will just cuddle up with my new favorite T-shirt! read more

My friends were in the area drinking so I came around for a few pints, for a local this place was very packed even late. Lots of local character in here, character you won't find in many zone 1 bars. We only had drinks, and the drink prices were about the same as any other London pub. This is a relatively small pub in the Camden area that a friend turned us onto. We were told that the pub played killer music on the weekends and that tons of people come to hang out and they were right! I've NEVER heard such amazing DJ sets of SKA, and Northern Soul the way I did at the Elephant's Head! If only the MOD/Northern Soul DJ's here in L.A. would take a lesson from the DJ's in London!!!! Its always packed and fun but last time I got a bit pissed off because this drunk guy with a handicap keep bugging me. If you like pubs that have an eclectic mix of characters who like to get boozed up whilst the DJ spins awesome classic punk/ska/rock tunes on vinyl. Then this is the bar for you! Friendly drunken crowd ranging in ages from 18 to 80 years including old rockers who've never lost their love for the music and can still rock it like back in the day! You can have such random nights here, where the whole crowd get talking, dancing and singing together as if it's a school reunion! They have a late license too! Great Camden pub! We spent the majority of our evening here one night, and even though it was crowded and a place to sit was hard to come by, we kept going back. Drinks here are cheap and the crowd is interesting. The DJ this particular night was playing an interesting assortment of tunes. And by interesting I mean it was like he was hitting shuffle on about 5 very different people's iPods. I went to the Elephants Head one day after losing faith in being able to ever move around the markets. I was skint, and thirsty. I got chatting to a really nice barmaid who told me that could offer me and my equally financially constrained friend a bin end bottle of house wine for a fiver. We thought - 'Great, we can get one each'. Which we did. We regretted it for a very long time, and if i think about it now still do. It was about five years out of date (a pound for every year?!), and we were sick for days. It is located on the main road, so will always be busy and popular with passing tourists. The staff are really nice, but the pub is over priced and pretty rubbish. I haven't been back in since, and that was a long time ago, and wouldn't urge you to. read more

We stumbled into this place accidentally whilst trying to recharge during a weekend trip to Camden Market. We didn't have a bad experience, but there also didn't seem to be much to distinguish this pub from any other we visited during our trip. If anything this pub seemed a little out of place compared to the swirling mess of Goth surrounding it, but that actually might work in it's favor as it provided a respite from both the rain and the throngs of pouty kids with funny haircuts outside. The food was decent. The wife ordered a BLT which was delicious (to me - she has a weird issue about English bacon). I ordered the Fish and Chips. It was good, but the fish was breaded, not battered- weird... In all fairness this was a Sunday afternoon, so maybe if we had gone in the evening we would have caught some of what sets the Elephant Head apart from the rest. This pub looks nice from the outside. It has one of those old fashioned exteriors. I didn't really like the interior much though. And someone with a dog was going around begging for cider money (not really the pubs fault). Seemed to lack any kind of atmosphere. They do real ale here, but they seem to hide the pumps behind the menus on the bar for some reason. The ale they serve is a well enough kept pint of Courage Best, unfortunately I'm not a huge fan of this particular beer, especially not at the price they sell it for here. read more

Went in because the hotel desk staff said it was a great place. I agree! Open mike night was fun, and they get a mix of talent, some good, others (like me) not so good. Still it is a friendly place, the beer selection is good and even though crowded, still found a good place to sit and watch the show. The elephants head is a small pub with the bar virtually stretching from one side to the other. A real traditional pub that's all about the drink, and doesn't try to be something else. It is a tad on the expensive at £3.50 a pint. I like the fact that a DJ plays on the weekends, maybe during the week too, but I wouldn't know as I have only been on Friday and Saturday nights. The DJ plays a bit of Reggae, Ska and old 50's tracks, it gets a good vibe going. The last time I walked in the front door, Smokey Robinson's 'The tracks of my tears was playing', for some reason I always remember that. It is a nice pub and popular, simply due to it being in Camden, and you wont find a pub playing music like this every Saturday night. I have been a few times, we use it as a meeting point to get a few beers or ales in before a club, every time it has been the same, good music, loud and busy with the same typical Camden town crowd. read more

My opinion of this pub changes everytime I go here. When ever I need to kill a few mins in Camden, and I fancy a pint i know 'the head' will have somewhere to sit. Every time I visit Camden I seem to end up at the Elephant's Head. Just a little way down from Camden Tube station, it's a great meeting point, although it has grown on me as a great pub in general. It's warm, there always seems to be a seat, and if you get a spot in the window, it's the best place in Camden to people watch. read more

Wandered here after the World's End and started to get the picture that maybe it's just Camden town that's weird, not the last bar I was in, or maybe I'd just had a bit to drink tonight. This bar was blaring a n eclectic mix of 50's and 60's pop and was packed to the gills with a random smattering of people enjoying their Saturday Night out. the bar didn't have much special about it to draw people in (besides a hot bar tender or two) so I guess it's the location on the main drag that makes this place so popular. What a lucky owner eh? I'd check it out if I was on a pub crawl through town, maybe it could even function as a meat market bar. Quirky little pub! And I do mean little! The bar runs most of the length of one of the walls leaving a narrow space for customers. It's not a problem during the day and week nights but it gets very busy and crowded on Friday and Saturday nights! BUT that's just the sign of a good pub! Having been brought up in camden it was a special trip to london from my home in liverpool to the 100 club in Oxford st to see steve craddock after the show we ended up in Camden and went to The elephants head what a brilliant pub what lovely staff there was a few of us most being Mods including myself.the DJ must have realised and put on a lot of mod music this was better than the show we paid to see the night was fantastic this was the second time we have been to this pub and we have not been disapointed i highly recommend this watering hole lol we danced the night away thank you to all the staff and DJ's that made our weekend so good i will be back for more very soon. The Elephants Head is quite small for a pub, with windows lining the wall and making a well lit, airy atmosphere. The staff are normal and the clientele a little bit more businesslike then you might expect for the pubs around this area, so if you're looking for a breather from punks and rockers then you can take a sit in a corner here and regain your composure. Food is served through the days at prices a shade above what I would normally want to pay, so I didn't! A nice place. read more

Much like! We stopped in for a refreshing adult bevvie after wearing ourselves out at the Stables Market, and did not regret the decision. They serve a proper pint of Guinness, nice and fresh and poured correctly. And they have John Smith's Extra Smooth!
