    Cumberland sausage sandwich
    Kathy L.

LOCALS ONLY--DON'T BOTHER STOPPING HERE IF YOU ARE A TOURIST!! TOURISTS ARE NOT WELCOME. WAS IT BECAUSE OUR SKIN COLOUR?!? I was visiting Camden Town and in search of a place to eat. Saw on the posted menu they served the Cumberland Sausage breakfast sandwich and a full English brekkie. We wanted to walk a bit before deciding where to eat. After walking around at the market, none of the food stalls appealed to me, so we decided to go back. First mistake!! Our party was a little hesitant, but we decided to stay because of the breakfast sandwich. It's okay to judge a book by its cover for this place--what you see IS what you get. We walked in and immediately didn't feel welcome, but should we have? It was a LOCAL pub, after all. I went up to the bar and felt largely ignored, while others asking for a glass of ice/alcohol, got their drink orders straightaway. The fully bearded (bushy & reddish) bartender was a jerk--continuing to ignore me all the while serving drinks and taking orders from other customers. His counterpart, the little tatted woman was equally rude to us when she took our food order. The only person that was nice was the black girl who wiped down our table when we asked. Second mistake was the food...looked better on the menu than on the plate. Overall, the sandwich was okay. Definitely forgetable food here and really don't waste your time if you are a tourist--go elsewhere because they clearly don't want "outsiders" business. Give your business to the Camden Market stalls and forget about this place! REALLY!!!

What I Ordered: Full English Breakfast and a Vegetarian Breakfast Flavor: Pretty standard. Not the best or the worst I've had. Service: A bit lacking. No table service, you must order at the bar. Took awhile to get someone's attention. Atmosphere: Standard pub atmosphere. Price: Reasonably priced. Location: Great location in the center of the Camden Lock area. Super convenient if you plan on spending some time there. Other Comments: This place is really about the location. We ended up going here because another place we wanted to try was closed. The breakfast was decent. I'd recommend if you're looking for a convenient place to eat while in Camden Lock.

It was a freezing decembers evening, and starting snow so my boyfriend and I were searching on the hunt for a cosy place to rest are weary bones... We trecked high and Low through Camden Town, literally walking into about 5 other places until I found the perfect spot so grab a beer and have a cuddle. Walking into this cute little warm pub, I instantly felt at home, and knew this was the place for us. There was a really nice bunch of people, chatting about films, music, and christmas... they two of what I call ' snug pits' where you can relax and lye out on one of their leather sofas, and catch abit of snuggle time. Its a small pub, with a massive long bar, but it's really chilled out, and homely. A nice retreat from the manic tourists outside barging their way forward on the hunt for a festive bargain. A three star retreat, for a moderate snuggle.

If you're from the USA don't eat here. Every Patton was served before us and the wait staff was extremely rude to us.

Old school rock and soul with a classy old english charm. A great spot to chill out and escape the party animals in the street.

Remarkable, he scored and I literally walked around the corner and saw the long line to get into the pub first. I was seated immediately, however, and proceeded to enjoy a traditional Sunday Roast. Room was very pleasant (there are so many I got lost returning to my table from a bio brake. Roast was very good ( but no Lawry's) and the sides excellent. Could not decide if my favorite was the roast potatoes (crispy outside soft inside) or the glazed carrots. Yorkshire pudding was good but again, I am to used to the Lawry's and this is a different style. Peas were, well, peas, but very fresh. The sticky toffee cake was excellent and the Guinness fresh, creamy and a proper pour. Good thing because the selection of winners by the glass and half bottles of wine were both a little thin. Overall wine list was good but I was alone and not up for drinking a full bottle by myself. Overall, very enjoyable and to judge by the crowd and difficulty in getting a reservation, one of the more popular in town.

The history alone makes it worth visiting, and the location is perfect if you're exploring the area. It feels very classic London in the best way. We stopped in for a pint and honestly... the whole after-work beer culture over there is something I really need to bring back with me to the States. The beer was great, the atmosphere was lively without feeling overwhelming, and it just felt like one of those places where people naturally gather and stay awhile. Definitely worth stopping into if you're in the area.

Two story space - the ground floor feature the bar and handles walk in lunch; the upstairs is a dining room for those with reservations. Fun fact, as part of the history, the pub used to be the host of bare knuckle fights and had regulars like Charles Dickens. Wildfarmed sourdough - served with whipped salted butter and Guinness butter. Well toasted bread and the butters with salt were well made. Fuller's London Pride marinated steak and ale pie - served with seasonal veggies and red wine gravy, as well as either mash potatoes or triple cooked chips. If there is one dish London does really well, it's their pies. It was beautifully made and loaded with steak. The red wine gravy was decadent and added a perfect amount of moisture to the pie. Triple cooked chips were perfectly crispy but fluffy on the inside. Corn fed chicken breast - served with garlic and sage butter, mash potato, cavolo nero, and crispy onions. Only took a bite of this as it was my partner's dish but the bite of chicken I had was very juicy and well seasoned.
