Cocktail o'clock every night at Lanes of London!…read more A friend and I were at a wine and cheese evening at the Marriott Hotel Park Lane last week, and as part of that event went on a show around. Tonight we were back on our own recognisance, having heard about the offer at the hotel's restaurant and bar, Lanes of London, of two cocktails for £20 from 5pm - 9pm. An offer like this at a Park Lane location is something we could not ignore! Comfortably settled into comfy leather armchairs, we started out with a Finnish Aperitif - vodka based, and with a lovely fruity taste that had a refreshing sharpness to it. Recommend! Then moved on to the Breakfast Sour, Gentleman Jack (Daniels) based and soooooo yum with it's tart apricot and peach mix, it was definitely my favourite of the night. But even better than the delicious cocktails was the service on the night. Giacomo and his team really took the most fantastic care of us. All the wait staff were most helpful and friendly. We spoke about the football (Wales vs Portugal was playing later tonight), asked for and received recommendations on the cocktails, and discussed travel destinations as I think all of the staff we spoke to were Italian. Absolutely delightful. We also shared a couple of the bar snacks, being the parmesan fries and Mushroom risotto rice balls. Delicious, and again the price was very reasonable considering the location of the hotel, on Park Lane near Marble Arch. The icing on the cake of our time here was that this particular venue seems to be 'undiscovered' when you consider the frantically busy Oxford Street is mere steps away. The bar was about half full at best while we were there, the restaurant less so. From experience, most of the pubs within a few blocks radius of here will be heaving tonight, yet here we were enjoying some of the most tasty cocktails I've ever tried and superlative TABLE service at less than the cost of a glass of wine at one of those overcrowded locations. If you are shopping on Oxford Street and looking for a place to lay down those shopping bags and enjoy some refreshment, or if it is simply Cocktail O'clock, I recommend Lanes of London to you as a place to stop by and try out one of their delicious signature cocktails.

The only upside is that i never had to eat from the "old menu" (assuming they think they have made an improvement) I ordered from the small plates menu: Bruschetta: who doesn't toast the bread for bruschetta? This place. Epic fail. Tempura Prawns: salty and greasy Beef Sliders: mini meatballs served on little hockey pucks Recommended "best dessert" Sticky Toffee Pudding: stick to something else. Overly sweet with some kind of weird ice cream cannoli Servers were very nice but service was un balanced. For the first half of my meal a trio of servers, in an otherwise empty dining room, repeatedly interrupted me (I dined alone and tried to read a book) but always apologized for doing so...(if you know enough to apologize, maybe just don't interrupt) When I actually wanted service, the staff were huddled at the bar, apparently oblivious. Sorry, but this was simply not a good experience. I think the request for a review was a veiled request of desperation to keep this place open. Without the embedded hotel crowd, they would stand no chance.

The sandwiches were very nice, surprisingly flavorful. Fresh. The baked goods were really nice. I loved the scones and the lemon glazed madeleine was my favorite. The only things I didn't love was the "sweater" biscuit (dry and turned my tongue blue from the food coloring.) and I also did not love the red velvet cake. My favorite tea was the Irish Whiskey Cream. Perfect with milk and a sugar cube. I highly recommend for a sweeter option. You really can't go wrong here. Service was pretty good. The waitress was friendly. She explained things well and was kind. We were supposed to have a Happy Anniversary on our table when we sat down, but it wasn't until the check came that we received a little plate with chocolate written on it and two cakes that were not very good. So I wouldn't necessarily prioritize this place for a special occasion if you want something a little fun, but it's not a deal breaker. The terrace was beautiful, and still warm on a chilly, rainy day. Very beautiful decor. The inside was also "insta worthy". Overall, I would recommend. Don't forget reservations!

I'm a huge dessert (especially chocolate) fan and my only slight criticism is that the chocolate dessert had a very thick outer shell which was a bit too heavy for me. A thinner shell would have complimented the insides without overpowering it. The location in the Ned Hotel was airy and bright and there was a three piece band playing jazzy versions of pop songs (e.g., Toxic by Britney Spears!). They were very good but it made it a bit difficult for conversations, probably because our seat was so near to the stage. Our waiter was attentive and helpful. We enjoyed seeing the variety of people there as well, including kids with their grandmothers, young couples, London residents, and tourists. It's not super dressy and a jacket is not required, although I wouldn't recommend going there in a t-shirt or ath-liesure. A super nice experience!

This place is located near Bank Station and is in a grand building with other restaurants all in this large open space. But even with that, the experience still felt elegant and intimate. The staff was lovely and our main server was super cheerful and bubbly. He described all the sandwiches and desserts in great detail and even gave us a little history on them as well as his own personal faves. The tea selection was great, with ~10 teas to choose from. The food was DELICIOUS. We had second servings on all the sandwiches and as we were too full to finish our desserts, the staff helped us pack them up to go for later. This is a phenomenal choice for a high tea in London for both the food, ambiance and location.

This place which was recommended by someone is part of Kings Cross train station. Btw, the station was pretty great. Food and shopping one place after the other... Anyways, I was told it was an old booking office. And I think it's also a hotel. We entered from the side of the station on the second floor. First impressions, wow. It gives off that old Hollywood vibes. Massive restaurant bar with dark mood lighting. We didn't have a reservation as we just wanted a night cap before taking the train back to the property. Got seated at one of the hi top tables just along the bar area. And for a Thursday evening, it was busy. Our waiter was great, didn't get his name though. Menu wise for drink was big. They pretty much have everything. We ended up just getting a bottle to split between everyone. The space is great for a gathering with friends or a night out. Nice plush seating, amazing high ceiling and the bar is massive. The opposite side is where the hotel check in is located which also has a really nice lobby. Which i believe is also a bar area. Spaces like these are hidden spot throughout London. It would be a place that I would totally visit again.

Granted, it became easy to become the go-to when we were already staying at the St. Pancras Renaissance that the bar is a part. That and the design and history of the Booking Office bar is so cool, as well as the bartenders who make excellent cocktails -- and know how to make an extra dirty martini. As just stated above, the Booking Office 1869 is located at the St. Pancras Renaissance in King's Cross, London. The now-bar and restaurant first started as the St. Pancras International train station's original ticket hall in the 19th century. And that feel carries on when you visit the bar with the original ticket booths behind the bar counters. The food menu is very good from what I ordered and the cocktails are class. The one night I ordered food, I enjoyed their buttermilk fried chicken that was grand with the sriracha and lime yoghurt. That was wicked tasty. It was just as tasty when I had the leftover cold a couple of days later. The way I gauge a bar ultimately is how they follow the drink orders to an extra dirty gin martini. I am happy to say that the bartender hit that drink out of the park; over and over again. It was class and crisp and full of happiness. I did enjoy from their cocktail menu the Patience that was gin-based and made with Green Chartreuse, olive oil, and lemon perfume that made me feel pretty and strong; strong and pretty. We also had the opportunity to enjoy a cocktail called the Last Word as they were shutting down for the evening our second night there. I had never had it but it was quite the complex herbal cocktail similar to the Patience. It with maraschino liqueur as well that was quite groovy. The Booking Office was one of my favorite bars to frequent in London so far. And it was within the walls of the hotel I was staying! Double plus!

It is the main restauraunt serving the hotel, which serves the hotels cooked breakfast and Afternoon Tea, and a regular menu in-between As expected with the central London, Mayfair location and the hotel it is located in, Podium is pretty high end but it is worth it for the experience, especially if you're staying at the hotel so might qualify for the discounted breakfast rate in with the room rate, or perhaps pick up a Groupon to receive 241 on Afternoon Tea, this is what I used and instead of paying £39 each, I managed to pick up my Afternoon Tea for the same price for two people. The Afternoon Tea is highly regarded due to the pastry chefs here winning Masterchef Professionals recently, because of this I had ultra high standards and sadly they weren't met, they did do a good job in creating different pastries and unique ones, for my gluten-free diet and my friends regular one, but I found them to be a little sickly. The Afternoon Tea was presented differently too, with a huge emphasis on the desserts with the open sandwiches served first, which I feel were probably the highlight, after removing a prawn and lettuce sandwich (I tried it in the executive lounge's afternoon tea and didn't like it) for the coronation chicken and pineapple, I was pleased with most of my sandwiches other than the smoked salmon and horseradish sandwich, which I feel wasn't a good combination as the horseradish' flavour tasted disgusting, and didn't go well with the smoked salmon I normally love. I feel cream cheese would have complimented the smoked salmon better than horse-radish, however, the chefs come up with a cool and innovative sandwich of cucumber and cream cheese, with generous toppings of most making a fantastic sandwich. The other sandwiches were a ham and tomato chutney, both home-made and great quality again and a coronation chicken and pineapple, the latter is another bold and maverick combination but one I still enjoyed. The selection of teas were pretty much standard and nothing too exciting, bold or impressive which I've had before at other Afternoon Teas from Hilton or other hotels. The decor of Podium is slightly old-fashioned, which definitely contracts the other Podium in the UK, located in the Hilton Manchester Deansgate which is pretty modern, I feel it could definitely do with a refurb of some sort, it does remind me a lot of the Hilton London Green Park's restauraunt which is currently being refurbished over a long period with the rest of the hotel, The hotel breakfast served here was also good, and I really liked the fact there was freshly squeezed orange juice you can squeeze yourself in the machines, although maintenance of the machine could have been better. I also didn't like the fact the staff weren't proactive in offering to get extras including hot beverages straight away, but the staff here did seem friendly as I began speaking to a rather friendly Italian server about football, who supported Napoli. I did have an issue in the waiting time for extras, it just took too long on my second day I ended up having to wait over 20 minutes for my omelette, which once served was far too gooey and cheesy despite asking for less cheese - dissapointing especially for the ultra high end price of £30 per person for breakfast. Breakfast is served until 11 so that is a bonus if you enjoy eating later or sleeping in, or like me both! It does have its' flaws but Podium at the London Hilton on Park Lane is a great hotel restauraunt, although it is a different class from the Glavin at Windows on the 28th floor (michellin starred restauraunt with better views compared to this one with no view), it still was pretty good none the less and anything less than a four-star rating would surely be an insult, I do think the price of certain aspects of the experience is too high however and it isn't matched by the waiting times and/or service which does let it down.
