But this one older gentleman that was part of the staff some sort of manager i think. was very rude and ruined the entire vibe of our dinning experience. we were uninformed about having a time limit to our table and this man slammed the check on our table telling us we had 10 minutes left before we had to leave. that itself isn't an issue but he went about it very rudely. when we were initially sat we were ignored for a good 10-15 mins and one dish required 26 mins to be prepared and not one person informed us of the time limit on the table until that man. everyone else on the staff was very nice but the one guy ruined the whole vibe and was very unpleasant he shouldn't be interacting with customers! read more

It was so nice for me, so I could get a couple of bites in in peace. If you know you know. I got the fish which was cooked okay. It was a tad dry, but the sauce helped with that. I wish the skin was crispier, but dish wasn't bad. I really liked the rice pudding. I could eat 5 of them! The rice was so soft and creamy. I really liked the sweetness of the dish and it went perfectly with the pear. I would say that food was a three but the service really helped this place get one extra star for me. We researched several afternoon tea experiences for our day in London, and this one had great reviews on multiple platforms online. The walk through Bourough Market was nice and then we come to this floralscape at the front of Roast that is so picturesque. But walk into the actual restaurant is what blew me away. The floral decor and decor of the restaurant, along with the style of the staff and bar is aesthetically pleasing. It made for GREAT PICTURES and videos. The tea sets were beautiful as well. WELL-CRAFTED spread! The staff and service was top notch. Everyone was knowledgable, friendly and attentive. I was happy with the price we paid for the tea and food selection of afternoon tea. My lessons learned is that you should always go with a local's recommendation. My friend had wanted to book us into Hawksmoor for steak at Borough Market, but I was seriously craving Sunday roast. Since it wasn't Sunday, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Roast was both in the BM but also, serves a Christmas roast with all the trimmings. The service was pretty poor...the waiter was just so unfriendly and unaccommodating. Tried our best to interact with him as minimally as possible. The food was a 0. I ordered the beef roast which was the driest piece of meat ever. The Yorkshire pudding was the best part of the meal. I ordered the rice pudding which was pretty disgustingly bland....tasted like some you can get in a hospital canteen but just a big bowl of it. The manager took this off my bill which still came to 165 GBP for 2 ppl. Total waste of money. Don't let the festive decor fool you into thinking that the food is any good, as I did. read more

One of the things I was most looking forward to during my trip to London was a Sunday roast dinner. But I was horrified to find out that Sunday roasts are typically only served ON SUNDAYS! Welcome to the only restaurant in town that serves piping hot Sunday roasts EVERY DAY. There are other things on the menu, but clearly roasts are their specialty. I got the roast beef, which was amazing, and my husband got a delicious melt-in-your-mouth beef Wellington. Neither of us regretted our choices, the meat was fabulous! Checked in at 4PM on a Sunday for our reservation. The check in wait was too long for no apparent reason. We weee seated around 4:20PM. The restaurant has a very comfortable and delightful setting. It has a full bas we're patrons can be seated waiting for their tables. The services was painfully slow, it took us till past 5:00PM auto get our tea served and another 10 minutes before the food was served. The food was good ( I didn't say amazing). Had to ask for extra hot water for tea at least four times each time trying to grab someone's attention. There is not a better was to spend Sunday afternoon roast than the Sunday roast at Roast in Borough Market. A big bright bustling restaurant with great service starting with your welcome at the front desk, to ordering your first drink, to looking at that great big roast with beef, Yorkshire pudding and vegetables. It's an excellent way to spend a Sunday afternoon with friends. Yesterday was my 4th time going over the past few years. Well this was quite a letdown on most fronts. We booked a table almost two months ago. When we were seated, we found ourselves at probably the worst table in the space - right beside the bar with servers bustling on both side of us constantly. We would have thought that we would have been situated up in the main room near the windows, however there were two very large tables set for groups of 8 or 10 each, sitting empty the entire evening. We thought this were for later reservations but based on how they set other tables around us when we were leaving, I think they were just prepping for tomorrow's afternoon tea. Our service was quite bad. Our server constantly changed at the beginning. It's pretty unprofessional to be asked the same questions over and over. Plus they constantly leaned in front and reached across us to serve and remove dishes, in an almost comedic way. The Sunday roast menu was pretty lame. And to top it off they had just run out of Wellington, which was what a couple of us purposely came for. The ended up finding one left in the kitchen, so my wife ended up going with it at least, but I think that means she probably ended up with a subpar piece. Abd to top it off, it wasn't cooked enough and the dough still had a raw taste to it, still kind of pasty. 2 of us ended up with the roast beef and weren't very impressed. The texture was not great, almost mushy while still being a little tough to cut and chew. Plus the whole meal was quite bland and we had to add a fair amount of salt to make it somewhat flavourful. My friends and I went here for Sunday brunch a few weeks ago. Considering the price point and elegant, crisp interior with high ceilings and good views of BM, I'd love to give this place more stars but the lackluster service, some misses on the food and high price point prevents me from doing so. I have to give them points for a very creative vegetarian menu as well. The salad with cranberries was delicious and a decent-sized portion, and the truffle and burrata tortellini was rich but I think could have used a bit more truffle and the cheese seemed to be a ricotta more than burrata. The desserts though were fantastic. The chocolate peanut butter was sinfully rich and tasty as opposed to the much lighter strawberry panna cotta. The sticky toffee pudding was on point. My husband and dining companions enjoyed their meaty meals as well but no one raved about the food. The hitch here was the service. When I'm paying this much I expect to have more attentive waiters like I do in NY. We kept on having to ask the waiter (when he decided to show up every so often), to refill our water glasses even though I told him to just bring a jug. He never asked us how our food was, did we want anything else to drink, etc. I know service stinks in the U.K. compared to the US and this just exemplified it. Also at the end of the meal, our table was offered a toffee sponge dessert. It was pretty bland but our table agreed if we were going to be offered a dessert anyway we wouldn't have spent money on the aforementioned desserts. 3.5/5 rounded down, because ultimately wouldn't recommend or return. Despite the pretty cool location overlooking Borough Market, Roast fell flat. My group ordered some raw oysters to start, our own entrees, and sides to share. I got the Beef Wellington, one of the specials of the day, which was a tad pricey at £34 (~$42). The beef was cooked a nice medium-rare, and was overall okay (not super flavorful but otherwise pretty tender and helped by the mushroom filling and accompanying sauce). However, I was surprised by how bad the sides were. The creamed spinach was fine but the roasted potatoes that came with my main were extremely dry and hard and the mixed market greens was the saddest bowl of veggies I had ever seen. I love vegetables but you couldn't get me to eat that - it was an unseasoned assortment of steamed (or boiled?) cabbage and brussels sprouts with one bite each of flavorless zucchini, cauliflower, and broccoli. read more

My wife and I had dinner at Roast tonight. We were seated and then basically ignored for the next 15 minutes. A member of the wait staff finally stopped by for drink orders. My wife wanted a glass of wine but there was no indication what wines they offered by the glass. When the list was shown, we ordered and our drinks were brought a few minutes later. About 10 minutes later, a different member of wait staff appeared to take our order. My wife ordered the roast beef medium rare, and I ordered the beef Wellington stating I also wanted it medium rare. Apparently I offended the sensibilities of the waiter (that was the last time he was at our table all night) as he stated "we only serve the Wellington medium rare." Our meals arrived about 20 minutes later. We had yet to see a member of wait staff in between to refill water glasses or see how we were doing (our water glasses were never refilled the entire meal, and no one ever approached to inquire how we were doing). My wife's roast beef was stringy and less than hot. Ironically, my beef Wellington arrived medium rather than medium rare and largely flavorless. The roast potatoes were so hard on the outside that it was virtually impossible to cut through them, even with a steak knife. At no point did anyone check in with us as we clearly were not an important table to them. We ate our meal and then sat as no one approached out table. Finally, the gentleman who took our drink order brought dessert menus, and my wife ordered the sticky toffee. She indicated that it was pretty good. Then another wait started as absolutely no one approached our table until I was able to get the attention of what appeared to be a manager. After waiting yet a few more minutes, he brought and just dropped off the bill. They automatically added a 12.5% "service fee" which would be hard to change absent making a big deal of it. I just paid it, but while tempted to express concerns about the service, I kept quiet. All in, including the service fee, the bill was £130. That is quite a high price to pay for mediocre food and miserable service. We had really looked forward to this meal but will not be back. read more

To be honest food wasn't that bad. Was acceptable in terms of quality. The roast I had in fact was quite good, despite the limited dinner menu on a Sunday night and then fact that lot of items were sold out. The sirloin roast I had was cook medium rare, just right for me and the cut was nice. The entire however was only alright with the poached salmon, slightly on he bland side and the veg didn't mix as well as I'd like. Dessert I had the white chocolate pudding and it was really good. The only thing that was odd was the peach source that didn't go very well. All in all the food there were lots to like, however everything was just 1 star shy of perfection. Overall deserves a solid 4 star. Now, why did I put a 3 star down if they deserve a solid 4 star then? It comes down to the fact that, they forced us to have last order at 6:30pm, when our booking was at 6:15pm. Overall the food and service were nice. The tea was fresh and hot. The treats were rich and yummy. The scones were as expected/good. The sandwiches were mixed. I thought the chicken good but the cucumber and egg bland. The roast beef was warm. I was very dissapointed when I asked the head waitress of service (with shortish straight blond hair) before we were served not to bring us any salmon and she agreed with no issues. The food arrives all together on multiple plates and tiers. When we realized we had been served salmon, I asked our waiter if we could have egg salad or chicken instead. He went and asked the same head lady I had spoken too, pointed at us and she tokd him no. He told us she said the plates were premade. He felt so bad I did't pursue it. It overlooks Borough Market with gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows. The food and tea selection was amazing, as well. Roast did a phenomenal job accommodating the gluten allergy in my group, too. I can only imagine how many people were duped by the classy veneer of this restaurant with it's own private elevator and glass walls. Anywhere else, the quality of this establishment would tank it rather quickly, but since they made the brilliant decision of placing it in a massive tourist trap all they have to worry about is getting people out the door as quickly as they come in. I met an old friend here for a drink so that we could catch up after nearly a decade apart. From the confused front desk to the hectic bar staff, we knew it was going to be a shitshow. Even seated AT the bar wasn't enough to get halfway decent service. If the food and drinks had made up for it then maybe my experience could've been salvaged, but alas... When the bartender doesn't know how to make a cocktail from their own cocktail list... that's a red flag. When the bar bites come out in micro portions... that's another red flag. When every waiter looks pissed off and every person behind the bar looks like their trousers have just been set on fire... get the hint by now? Overpriced and underwhelming would be my two word review for Roast. If anyone suggests coming back to this joint I'm going to politely steer them towards better ideas. read more
