Miller's pulled my Yukon out of a difficult spot up Lubken Canyon. After my winch line snapped I called the Inyo county sheriff and they recommended Millers. We were camping at Tuttle creek and with a snow storm inbound, decided to leave but the car wouldn't start. I called this shop and an older gentleman picked up. He asked me "What will you do for us if we fix your car".. I politely replied that I'll of course pay for your help" to which he replied " Yes, That's what we do in this country". I asked him how much for tow and fix , and he replied"$200 and that they can send a tow truck in an hour" which seemed reasonable. Meanwhile my wife was taking to the Roadside assistance, so I asked told him that i'll confirm in a minute. After checking with my wife, we called him back and asked him how much will cost if the car just needs a jump start, and he still said $200! Before, I could say anything else, he said that I should check with people in the campground for help and that he will only send a tow truck after 4 pm because we didn't like his prices! I was shocked! We were 15 minutes away from his shop and there is a storm inbound and no professional courtesy, let alone showing some humanity. read more

John Miller picked up the phone on a Sunday afternoon--already a miracle these days--when my camper's brakes decided to throw in the towel coming down from Lone Pine Campground. Turns out, the emergency brake pin got pulled, which cooked the brake drum and wheel hub. John told me the shop was closed, but said, "Park it here tonight, I'll get you sorted first thing in the morning." Total legend. Even better, the Best Western with a pool was right next door, so my wife and kids were stoked. Come 8 AM, John's there. His guy 'EZ' dove right in. There were some hiccups with finding the right brake drum--because, of course, trailers always have mystery parts--but they got me taken care of. They only charged me one hour of labor ($160/hour plus parts), which in California feels like a handshake deal from the 1950s. I also swapped out my ancient tires (11 years old--probably doing me a favor there). I'd happily recommend these guys. Honest, fair, and the kind of people you want to bump into when your trailer decides to die in the middle of nowhere. Heads-up: John's got some old-school, unfiltered shop talk. On a 107F day we stopped with a flat tire at 11:30am and were turned away, even though there was no car waiting for tire service. "The boss said no, just go to Big Pine, 30min away". It's very rare these days to get the type of service I got when the fuel pump went out while on my way back to Bakersfield from a fishing trip in Mammoth. I stopped in Lone Pine to eat and my Rv refused to start...after calling for AAA and getting no help I checked Yelp and called Miller's Towing, and it was the best decision I could have made. A worker came out to my location right away and took information from me. A little time later John, the owner, came with a heavy duty tow truck. He took me to his shop, and diagnosed my problem as a bad fuel pump. This was all done well after his closing hour. He ordered the part and backed my Rv up to his shop and hooked me up to a 30amp outlet and let me spend the night there. Who does that anymore? The next morning Buddy, the Machanic, started working on it. Luckily while waiting I got to know the owner John, as well as Tom in the office, Buddy, and EZ. John, like me, was also in Vietnam. He as a marine and I in the army. The day was very hot, and they were VERY BUSY, but despite all that they continued to work. When the work was finished I actually didn't want to leave, because I enjoyed my experience waiting, watching, and talking with the people there. I sat waiting in the office and got to watch how John and his people interacted with all the people that came in needing help. Places like this just don't exist everywhere anymore. I felt like I was back in the 1960's when you actually got honest service. So I can wholeheartedly recommend Miller's Towing and garage, and the cost of my repair was very fair. If I could give negative stars, I would. My daughter, and friend, and I were stuck on Hwy 395, 16 miles south of Lone Pine after the car's oil drain plug fell out and we lost all oil. I called Lone Pine Towing and was told by the owner that he "was slammed" and couldn't come get us. He told me to call friends to come get us and to leave the car on the side of the highway with the keys on top of the front tire and he "might" be able to tow it the following day. Thankfully, I have great friends who traveled 5 hours one way, stopped in Bishop to pick up the parts we needed, repaired the car, and drove home. We were able to get the car back home that night. But, really? A tow service who can't come tow a car? Not good and not helpful! read more

My truck died in Death Valley on a Sunday morning. My insurer called a tow service from Pahrump for some reason but I live in Central Valley so I wanted it closer to where I was camping in Lone Pine. Had it towed to Miller's. Even though they were closed Sunday I called the number letting them know it was being dropped off and I would be there first thing Monday morning to discuss the next step and compensate Miller's for holding it. I'm stuck here after all and not going anywhere, The person on the phone was rude and argued that their lot was full (not even close) and that the tow service could not drop it off for any reason. There is no other shop in town either. I've been turning a wrench for 35 years on the side and never heard a shop turn down work even if it was a month before it could be addressed nor prevent anyone from temporarily leaving a vehicle considering I was stranded in a small town on a Sunday. Here's the story about John Miller and how he saved us. We traveled from Northridge to lone Pine on Sunday morning once we got to lone Pine our 32 foot motorhome died. AAA couldn't help and finally someone recommended Miller towing. When I called on Sunday around noon, John answered the phone and proceeded to tell us that all we needed to do was wait and then once it was around midnight, we could add fresh cool gas to our tank that was probably vapor locked and head back home the coolest point of the day. it was a miracle to us. tried calling these guys to be civil and own up to their mistakes. 3 weeks later no answer so i called them back and they said they aint doing shit. came in with a misfire #2 cylinder on a 2010 acura mdx. they wrote in invoice diagnostic fee. and said i needed 6 plugs and 6 coils. got car back same condition $1000 later.... they said it was "better". drove home to my mechanic and he says it would have taken 10 min to swap coils. and if the misfire stays at #2 next step to do a compression test that takes maybe 30 min. compression test shows 0 psi. millers should have stopped there and charge me whatevery time they took --- called easy with this information and he agreed "he " messed up and and should not have changed 6 coil and 6 plugs for no reason.... and that he would talk to the owner for a refund..... john miller says... we aint doing nothing. your out in the middle of nowhere and have to deal with these UNETHICAL ASSHOLES WHO WONT OWN UP TO THERE MISTAKES. If I could give this place a "0," I would. It's going to be a long review but please read before you consider their services. I never write bad reviews but this is needed. And this JUST happened. I'm a single mom camping at Gray Meadows near Independence with my 5-yr-old daughter and small dog. We drive into town to get potable water because the campsite spigot is broken. On the way here, my tire popped on a rock in the road. We were able to make it to a gas station before it got down to the rim. AAA changed to my spare for me so I can drive to a tire shop. Called Miller's because they're the closest at 17 miles away. I have to order my not stock tire because no one has it in stock. No problem. We just have to camp a few extra days to wait for it. During the call where I was talking to Mr. Miller himself, I asked if I could pay for the tire over the phone ahead of time to avoid driving on a spare 17 miles there, then back to my campsite, then back to Miller's when the tire gets in. Miller said, "We can't do that you'll have to come in to do paperwork." I mean no problem if I have to, but I asked him very calmly and kindly if they could make an exception and I started to explain my circumstances- single mother with little girl worried about driving that far on a spare. If that was still a no-go I would have said I understood and drove there to order. Before I could say anything more, Miller said verbatim "I don't know how it works where you're from. But here we do things our way, not your way. Go find someone else to help you." I broke in to say my circumstances and tell him I would still drive there, but he cut me off and said, "We've had a system that has worked for 55 years and we're not going to change it for you. Go find someone else because we're not going to help you." Then hung up on me. Literally. I'm not kidding- no exaggerations. I called back and someone else answered and I explained to that person how utterly rude Miller behaved and told him what happened. The associate said, "If I'm nice to you, will you not write that review?" As if he will only be nice if I agree to that- what a bizarre thing to ask. I told him I could drive there to do paperwork and needed to order the tire. He said I'll call you back after 1:00pm (it was 9:30 am and there's no cell service back at my campsite). I told him as much and asked if he could call back any sooner, and in a condescending tone he said, "I'll call you back later." And on that note, I called Bishop Automotive Center and they were immediately like, "No problem! We can let you pay over the phone and you can sign papers when you pick it up. Also, we get shipments on Tuesday I'll see if a local warehouse has one that I can get to you sooner." Amazing. Then I went into the Subway here in Independence and told the gal working there what happened and she said, "It was Miller's wasn't it. Be happy you dodged a bullet: he lost his AAA rating because of so many customer complaints about his attitude and overcharging customers." Then she proceeded to tell me a few horror stories. She said literally she drives out of town every time to get tire and car help just to avoid Miller's. The solidarity made me feel better. So my 2007 Chevy truck broke an axle and upper arm on a Dirt road just outside Lone pine (in the snow) My Good Sam towing couldn't find anyone to help me. They advised me to try to find a tow service locally and they'd reimburse us. A guy drove by with a jeep and recommended Miller towing. We called them. They picked us up and drove us to our Trailer about 6 miles away. John Miller ordered the new parts asap, from G.M. and towed the truck to his Machine shop and fixed everything. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I had a tire failure (bulge out the sidewall) just north of Lone Pine last May. The tires were 12 months old with less than 15,000 miles on them. I called AAA who towed me to Miller's where I spoke with the owner, John. He told me there was no way to warranty the tires because no one, meaning the tire manufacturers, ever believes the owner of the vehicle and that due to the type of failure I would be better off to buy new tires all the way around and not risk the same thing happening to one of the other 3 tires. He told me the tires were a cheap Chinese product and he did not/would not recommend them. After a lot more discussion, and the fact that he did not have a tire to replace the flat one, I purchased a brand new complete set of tires to replace the almost new set of tires that was less than a year old. The technician who installed the tires had only been on the job 2 weeks and I was concerned that he might not know what he was doing so I asked and was assured that someone would be watching his work and would make sure he had done a proper installation. I left to get some lunch and several hours later, returned to find that the tires were still not completely installed because the technician was trying to figure out the price of the tires - his price didn't agree with the price quoted to me by John the owner. After finally getting the pricing correct (it was more than what I had been quoted to start with), the technician finished the installation and I continued on my way back to my home in Washington State. After arriving in Oregon some 750 miles later, I stopped at a local tire installation place and asked them to check the balance of the new tires because they didn't feel like they were driving properly. Sure enough, all four tires were "way out of balance" according to the tire technician and I had them re-balance the new tires - they charged me $60 to do so. I called John at Miller's and he agreed to reimburse me for the re-balancing if I'd send him a copy of the bill, which I did. It is now almost 5 months later, and I have not been reimbursed yet. I have filed a complaint with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair and hopefully they will be able to put some pressure on John of Miller's Towing to reimburse me. Not only did I spend over $850 for 4 new tires which included balancing, I also paid an additional $60 to have them re-balanced. Do not go to this place for tires! After reading the recent reviews, it appears that the mechanical side of Miller's Towing is faring far better than the tire side of the business. Unfortunately, Lone Pine doesn't have a lot of other options. Best bet is to have your tire issues somewhere else, if at all possible! read more

Its been quite a bit of years that I've had to use a tow service, so I really don't know how to compare this place to others, but here goes! While my hubs and I were visiting a historical landmark, I accidentally drove my low-riding car over a good sized rock on a dirt road. After unsuccessfully trying to get my car un-stuck, we called road side assistance and about 35 minutes later, MT had shown up. To be honest, we didn't know how much the tow service was going to cost and didn't really have to many options being out in the middle of the desert, but we were impressed with how they treated my car and the fact that other than dirt on my car, it was in the same shape it was before I drove over the rock. While they were assessing the damage, they talked about how they could maneuver to get my car out and at one point said they had to do whatever was necessary to get it out, which was a little unsettling but hey, it was my fault that my car was in that position. After about 15 minutes, they were able to get my car out with no bumps, scrapes or dents. Our insurance road side assistance guy told MT that we had cash to pay for the service, which we did NOT say or have, but the guy told us that we can follow them back to main office and pay there, so we gave them my hubs driver's license and debt card, in case we drive off, which we also did not do. The damage of the tow came out to around $220. I thought it would be around $100, but again, I haven't really had to use tow services before so I didn't know what the norm is. BUT...the guy did give us an awesome tip to get a reimbursement from our insurance company, which was awesome and something they definitely did NOT have to do! If we ever get caught in the middle of the desert, I definitely know who I'm going to call! Overall, the service from the time they got to us and paying them was pretty good. read more

We called and the guy who answered said that everyone was at lunch and to call back...so fine, we went and grabbed lunch ourselves and called back again when he told us to. New guy answered and said no one was available. We asked if there was another shop they could refer us to. They are the only ones in the area. So we waited and called again and they said they couldn't help us because no one worked on Suburu's. I get that being the only one in town means they are busy but after 3 calls, hanging around in 100+ degree weather to only be told they can't help us sucked. Miller's didn't have closing times listed on google maps so we gave a call to see if they were open and could do a quick tire patch job. The man who answered was incredibly rude and hung up on us mid-sentence the first time we called to see if they were open (why answer the phone if you aren't??). We called again to see if he knew of any other places that were open and again hung up on us mid-sentence. My 5th wheel's spring hanger broke loose. I limped it into lone pine and found Millers. They got me in right away and Clay welded the hanger back into place. This saved our vacation at Mammoth Lakes.
