I had a Sprinter cube truck break its serpentine belt on the freeway stranding me about 20 minutes from Lone Pine. Nobody local was available to give me a tow for a large truck. I called Miller's and they seemed to drop everything to rush to me with a flatbed. They got to me in 45 minutes which is dang quick in my experience especially for how far they had to travel. John came out to rescue me and tow the truck. He was very friendly and nice to talk to on our long journey back to Ridgecrest. I really enjoyed listening to his stories and could tell that he really loved his job. The price for the tow was a few hundred dollars less than I was expecting and they dropped me off at a shop in Ridgecrest I found who were able to repair my truck. It doesn't seem that there are a lot of options out here for a tow service but you can trust these guys. On my way up the 395 heading to mammoth I got a flat tire on my trailer...AAA guy helped me replace my tire with a spare but the spare was compromised and advised me not to drive it.....But recommended that if I drive into town that Miller's towing could help me. Highway Robbery literally ! $355.00 to reconnect alternator wiring, charge battery and a one block tow. The owner called me to ask about a security system on the viechiel but never called to give me a cost for repairs. He called when the truck was ready and I about fell off my chair when he gave me the total. This shop took advantage of me being stranded . I sent an email requesting their BBB license number no one has returned my email. Do not expect any small town charm in Lone Pine from this shop! ZERO STARS . After gassing up our truck it would not start. We determined it was probably the battery. My husband got the number for Miller's Towing from the gas station attendant. The gentleman on the phone was very nice, and within I'd say five minutes another gentleman arrived and jump started our battery. It was enough to get us to Dave's Napa Auto Parts (you can read my review). The gentleman at Miller's were polite and helpful, and we are grateful for their help. We were at Panamint Springs Resort when our 96 Dodge diesel wouldn't start. There was no cell coverage, but the resort had a sat phone and a book of recommended tow options. The closest was Miller's Towing, so I called John. He had a tow truck there by the time we moved our trailer to the day use area. Oscar, the tow driver, helped us get the truck loaded and kept us entertained on the ride to Lone Pine with his encylopedic knowledge of local history and the small attractions on the way through the mountains.When we got to the garage, I was impressed that it included a complete machine shop. John, the owner, showed us his vast fleet of tow vehicles and had Jesse take a look at our truck. It sounded like fuel, but he quickly isolated the problem to an electrical fuel shut off that turned out to be a part of the security system. They provided transportation to lunch and later to a motel. By the next morning, we were back on our way. Who would have thought that the kind of expertise could be found in Lone Pine! This was not an easy diagnosis or fix. We will never forget the kind treatment by these folks. John said he has never failed to get a towed vehicle out of the back country. We were out exploring the Alabama Hills with the family, off-roading, and we became stuck in a very dangerous situation. I could only provide GPS coordinates to the staff with one bar of cell coverage...and he found us. We were in such a bad way, that he took us back to the shop and we waited until the owner, John, arrived. John then took me, two of his trucks and two of his best employee's and we went back and he skillfully recovered my vehicle without issue. John Miller agreed to come pick up my RV and fix it when I got stranded in desert valley. I had no service. I drove for service, made arrangements with him and drove back to my RV to sleep. In the morning John showed up, said suddenly he could no longer fix my RV and that he was to drive me to someone who could. He drove me literally in the opposite direction out of there and dropped me off alongside the road once I got service and found someone else to fix it since he bailed out after picking me up! He unhooked and claimed he needed to leave right away and then spent two hours waiting to get paid instead of driving us to where we needed to go! He would not take us no matter how much we paid! My vehicle was stuck in a rock inside Alabama Hills last month. Some nice neighbor in the Hills with a real 4 wheel drive close by gave me a lift to town and find cell signal to make calls. I learned that AAA does not cover towing when vehicle in off road. So it is up to me to locate an independent tow service. Unfortunately, by the time I found Miller's Towing, it is too late and the shop is close. I kept calling since there is little opinion I have left. Finally, the owner called back and said he cannot come that night because he is on another job far away. But he told me to meet him in the Movie Road parking lot at 7:30 AM and he will be in an orange truck. The neighbor drove me back to my stranded car for the night. The next morning, I trek out 2 miles to the parking lot and got there 20 minutes early. Within 10 minutes, the orange truck arrived. We chatted while he drove me back to my stranded car. He is a nice and fun guy to chat with. Once he got there, he accessed the situation and got my vehicle off the rock with a cable in no time. The cost of tow is very reasonable. If I ever visit the area and need services again, I will not hesitate to call him. I highly recommended his service if you ever get stuck in Alabama Hills. read more

John -- the owner -- helped me out yesterday (8/5/14) by loaning me some tools so I could check the battery cables on my Harley when the idiot light came on. The cables were loose, as I had suspected (thanks, Harley dealer who doesn't understand how to use Loctite on battery cables!) but that turned out to not be the problem as my charging system was not putting out any volts. John sent me up the street to Dave at NAPA Auto, who helped me get back on the road for a VERY fair price. As for these people who have posted one star reviews, I question whether their reviews are accurate (meaning, honest or correct) because they are so different from what I saw and experienced. Of course, it could be that they were the problem because they don't understand that they aren't necessarily the center of the universe. Next time I'm riding through Lone Pine, if I see either John or Dave at Chuck's (the local watering hole), I will gladly buy each of them a beer. read more

Miller wanted $60 "open shop fee" on Sunday to tell me if the tire I needed was in stock. I'd understand if somebody had to drive from home to open the shop. Like others have said, if I could I would leave zero stars! I am appalled that this company is still in business. My 18 year old son had gone camping with a friend and got stuck in a ditch and was stranded overnight until the next afternoon when Miller's towing decided to get out to him. It wasn't until I called as a concerned mother and told them where he was (since they didn't want to hear it from my son) that they finally drove to help him. They charged for 5 hours!!! They were rude, unprofessional, and showed no compassion or care that my son was stranded. They completely took advantage of my son and took their sweet time getting to him and then it only took 5 minutes to get the car out. Avoid calling these people!!! read more

I was in an accident on 395, car was totaled and my dog was loose somewhere on 395 15 miles south of lone pine, The owner of the Tow yard didn't give a shit, said give me 487.00 dollars. So my dog is loose and maybe dead and he want's me to sit around and collect that money first or he's gonna charge me daily fees on a totaled car 120.00 no less, well I went looking for my dog forget him so for 3 days I was looking calling animal services for sightings, Highway Patrol and Sherifs were keeping eyes pealed when going through that area, So morning of third day we all are up 6 am getting ready to look, my one friend a bit more optimistic then I were setting up a plan she was gonna stay at Cottonwood Creek Rd. and hold a base, while me and friend went lookingI saturated down road looking in drain pipes anything she could hide in finally found her hiding in a drain pipe backed her way out and kisses were flying she was so happy as was I. Last thing on my mind is totaled car and the crap that was in it, since they had already stolen items out of clove box which didn't come open, but a bill is a bill and since I didn't want any more daily charges and hospital bill is going to be bad enough I paid the bill 667.50 dollars you know storage fees. Miller's Towing was amazing. On 7/31/14 we were on our way to camp at Whitney and about 10 miles south of Lone Pine we had a double blowout on our trailer. We have AAA with RV coverage but the best they could do was send a tow truck from Ridgecrest to tow us into Lone Pine for the night as it was around 4:30 pm. We would have been stuck on the side of the road with 4 kids in 100* heat for 1 1/2 hours waiting for the AAA tow truck. We googled towing in Lone Pine and found Miller's. We called them at 4:45 and they didn't hesitate to load up 2 tires on new wheels and drove out to us. Put the new wheels and tires on the trailer on the side of the road and had us back on the road by 5:40. Awesome service. To top it off, we ran into the owners while we were eating at the Whitney Portal store and when he noticed my 4 year old was a little cold in her long sleeve shirt, he took the jacket off his back and lent it to her until they left. I got stuck in the sand beside the road and they charged me $375 to tow it out and when I told them I was only carrying $200 on me and that I needed to drive to my bank's ATM to get the rest and that I'd leave them collateral the owner threatened me and letterally said, "I've killed people." I wouldn't even give them one star. They said that our car would be ready on Tuesday, and here it is... Thursday and they still haven't got it fixed. It's a simple power steering issue, only takes an hour and a half to fix... And I know for a fact that the part shop delivers between 9-10.......and they are saying another 6 hrs... Nope. I would have your car towed somewhere else, a larger town with more options- this place is useless. read more

Great group. John rescued us from the desert, after hours, when our Jeep's transfer case got stuck in neutral! While hooking us up to tow, he noticed our rear brakes needed looking at! On a Sunday on the way back from Mammoth the harmonic balancer went out, taking out the serpentine belt and water pump. On Monday, John and crew started working on the Jeep and were awesome and lived by their word of getting my Jeep repaired in 1 day. They are very friendly, professional, and got us back on the road. Jess, the mechanic, explained what repairs were necessary and why, and how he was going to do them. Their quoted price was the price I paid, which I believe was definitely fair. Once, my friend and I were a tad bit naive and decided to use google maps to get to the racetrack in Death Valley (I know, I know). We ended up with our car perched at the edge of a cliff with a broken axle on the extremely dangerous Lippincott Mine Road. About 50 miles from any populated area. Miller's to the rescue!! They were the only people with the knowledge and expertise to get my car out of there, and not only did they take care of everything, they helped guide me through dealing with my insurance company, who ended up paying for everything in the end. I seriously could not have done this without them. (By the way, my insurance company had picked a shop that quoted over four times the amount Miller's charged me before I insisted on using them). Competent, but arrogant and greedy. Use only as a last resort. I was driving down 395 when my dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree with warning lights and my gauges stopped working, so after stopping at NAPA and Casey's in Lone Pine, I ended up here. This was the only place with an OBD-I reader in town, the other two places only had OBD-IIs. I simply asked if they could pull the code and let me know what it said - a free service at any AutoZone or NAPA Auto Parts in America, and at most other automotive shops. They definitely read the code... after making my wife wait in the hot sun for nearly half an hour. They had not told me there would be any charge for this, and I had signed no paperwork, so I naturally was surprised at what happened next. Then the mechanic said, "that'll be $40." It had taken one of their employees all of a minute, and they had done no work and fixed nothing. They didn't even tell me the error code. They just said it "had something to do with my speed sensor"... which I later found out my car does not even have. Turned out my mechanical speedometer cable had simply broken and needed replacement. No big deal, but we both felt cheated, and my wife was especially hurt by their shady behavior. I would not return or advise others to do so unless it really is a last resort. Oh, and when I went inside, the owner said, "that'll be $50." When I told him the mechanic had already said it was $40, he replied, "That's why he's out there and I'm in here." Wow. While I was paying, the owner literally started bragging to me about all the people who had come in and "we emptied their pockets too" (he used those exact words) when no other shop in town could help. Just what we need more of in small town America -- unapologetic, rampant monopolistic greed. I understand that people need to (and indeed should) charge for their work, but 1) be up-front about your pricing, 2) have customers sign something knowing what they will be paying in full before doing any work, and 3) make sure your prices are in line with industry standard rates or better. and 4) don't ever talk about your customers or your employees that way, especially to another customer. It's in really bad taste. 1 star for the ripoff and attitude, an extra star thrown in for being the only shop that technically had the tool for the job. Memorial Day. Flat tire on a 38' RV. Sitting in Miller's Parking Lot. Owner pulls in, and we try to talk to him. He refuses. Too busy to help us. Later try to talk to another employee who says they can't help. Too busy. Told to call at 9 AM next day (they open at 8), and "if" they answer the phone, they "might" be able to help. If they don't answer the phone it's because they are too busy. Would not give any estimate about ability to fix next day, day after, or anytime. Do you even have tires, "yeah, we have lots of tires". Had to call in a mobile repair service (Britt's Diesel) from Bishop (70 miles away) costing us hundreds of dollars in mileage and labor for the trek. When we met the driver of the mobile repair truck the scene was almost comical. The parking lot and garage was so void of life I was waiting for a tumbleweed to blow through their shop and hear the whippoorwill trills. Why any stars for an experience with a service business rude and arrogant that refused to help us? Well they did let us park in their parking lot (though they did make us move). They also recommended Britt's Diesel in Bishop that was incredibly helpful. read more

I'd think the only horse in a one horse town would have some value; and I suppose even horsesh$t can be fertilizer. These guys are the only horse in town and they smell like a dirty diaper in a rodeo stall. If you have a Chevy or another American made car or truck they may help you out but dad-gummit it if your vehicle is anything other than the red white and blue variety, you will get a swift kick out of the lot. Even worse they take on your vehicle and cry like a grown babies about actually working on it. And when it comes to the quality of their work I wouldn't recommend them for anything more than a tire change. The sad truth is behind all their failings is a group of guys who can probably do great work if they wanted to. Without local competition your options are limited to Bishop or Ridgecrest. Miller's has undoubtedly helped out thousands of people over the years; and they've also left scores of others in the lurch. They say don't look a gift horse in the mouth, but there are greener pastures up the road...if you can get there. read more
