Headed south and into independence, the turbo on my 06 Chevy duramax went south in a huge way. AAA couldn't help in the area so I reached out to Britt's in Bishop as they had great reviews. They gave me the number of a heavy hauler and help me get the tow lined up super fast which was huge. They were great with communication that it would take a week or so to get to it which was totally fine as we had another ride home and I knew it wasn't going to be a simple fix. They helped me with storing the RV while the work was being done. They ended up having to completely replace the turbo, some lines and hoses and a few other small things. Also noticed that my frion was a little low and with the hot drive home, topped it off for me. This isn't a quick or easy job on this truck and the attention to detail showed in the end result. I nervously hitched up the RV after they finished and headed 200 miles south in 105 heat and she runs like brand new again. The entire crew there was super helpful and nice throughout the entire process. Moral of the story, if you're in the area at all and need help you can trust, Not only are they the best but probably the only ones with the combo of knowledge, a massive and impressive shop, friendly peeps and great pricing. 0 Stars Short…read moreversion: Came to get a diagnostic test and the mechanic yelled at us for asking to be notified of what he was going to do to the car and the price before he did it. Super unprofessional and rude. Long version: Our truck started shaking and the check engine light started flashing about an hour away from the town we were staying in. We stopped here because it was the closest auto shop to us. We walked in and asked how much it was to get a diagnosis. The man said it was $60. We would have driven to Autozone to get the diagnostic code for free but the closest one was 30 minutes away and we weren't sure if the truck would make it. Nevertheless we agreed to do the diagnostic exam here at AR Automotive repair. The man connected the scanner inside the truck and popped the hood. I stayed in the car while my boyfriend stood outside near by. The man didn't say anything to us for about 10 minutes while he tinkered around the engine. Eventually my boyfriend asked if they got a code yet. The man replied that the engine misfired and he is trying to find out why it is misfiring (still diagnosing). Another 10 minutes goes by with the man not saying anything and my boyfriend notices he is taking out the coils and other parts so my boyfriend asked "oh was it the coils?" The man replied that he didn't know and reveals that the misfire was in cylinder 3. Throughout the process the man kept walking back to a work bench to grab tools and other parts and we wanted to confirm that we just wanted a diagnosis not a repair yet until we know what's wrong. We asked if what he was doing was part of the diagnostic and he just replied no without an explanation to what he was doing. My boyfriend stopped him because we wanted to know what needed to be done and pricing for it before we agreed to anything. The man started yelling at us telling us we are too nosy and that he didn't need to tell us what he was doing because that's his job. My boyfriend asked him to put back whatever he took out so we could leave. The man continued to yell at us. I will attach a video. In the video you can hear Boyfriend: "it didn't sound like..." Mechanic: "I was going to tell you hey this is what this is much... if you want me to I was gonna tell you if you want me to work on this it's going to be more" Boyfriend: "but you didn't and then I had to ask you" Mechanic: "cause there's no time to do that! There is no f***king time to say that!" Boyfriend: "when I asked you, you said no it's not part of the diagnosis so that's why-" end of video. I received a call from a family member checking in on the situation which is why the video cut off. The man continued to yell at us while he put back the parts. His co worker asked him to "shut up" and he seemed uncomfortable/apologetic. My boyfriend also asked to see the results of the code. The main mechanic (the one yelling) said he didn't need to show us but his coworker showed us the results on the iPad. My boyfriend Venmoed the man for the diagnostic test. (Proof attached I blocked out last names for privacy). We left and drove to Autozone where they were super helpful and got our car fixed. When we opened the hood we noticed the man had snapped off some red connector pieces. Maybe in his anger he did it on accident while putting the other pieces back or on purpose to be petty, who knows. Overall this mechanic was unprofessional and rude, I have never been to a mechanic that does work on a car before going over what they intend to do and the pricing for it. I think he wanted to take advantage of our situation (being stranded without many options).

I brought my Audi in to Shorty's for a routine service and to see if Rob could help me out with the catalytic converter codes I'd been running. The Audi mechanics wanted to replace the catalytic converter and the o2 sensor, which would've cost several thousands of dollars. Rob was super honest and upfront with me about Audis not being Shorty's bread and butter, but that he could help by giving it a diagnostic, figure out what things needed attention, and decide if it was time for me to shop around for another car. In the end, he recommended that I shouldn't default to replacing the cat or the sensor and hypothesized that it was a vacuum leak, also putting together a list of priority items--which Nicole explained in detail--for my independent euro car mechanic in San Francisco to go through and replace with Audi parts. My mechanic in the city read Rob's report and agreed with everything, remarking at how thorough it was. It turns out, the car did indeed have a cracked vacuum hose. He used Rob's notes to fix all the other little things that needed attention, and now I'm back to having a perfectly running car with 160K miles on it. It's really nice to have a shop out here that can pinch hit for this kind of troubleshooting and, even if they prefer not to get into some things themselves, provide a real honest and detailed diagnosis of the likely causes and solutions are. We're lucky to have them.

I got a flat tire (no spare tire and can't be patched with the kit) about 8 miles away from Bishop…read morecenter of town and called my rental car company's roadside assistance (RSA) for a tow. So supposedly the RSA had called this place (only towing company in Bishop according to my google search) 9AM in the morning but maybe the quoted price was too high so RSA ended up asking another place in Sparks NV to come and get me - which didn't work because I waited for hours and then after a lot of back and forth that company decided to cancel around noon. I was pretty upset and called Billie's to ask if they are available and how much it would cost, where Billie's staff said $475 for the tow - now I understand why the RSA had originally asked and decided to try something else, that does sound pretty steep for a tow that's only 8 miles away from town and towing the car only 8 miles to town. LOL if you are the only place in town you can name whatever price you want. Anyways I was running out of options and really wanted to get the car to the town tire shop before they closed for the weekend so I called RSA again and insisted that they use Billie's instead of some unreliable place 100+ miles away and eventually they called Billie's and got someone to come in 1.5 hours. Once the tow driver arrived things moved really quickly and I got to the tire shop just 5 minutes before the technician was about to take off for the weekend. Driver was courteous and friendly.

From the very first call, the owner, Billie Edmund Lozano, was defensive and rude, refusing to give me a straight ETA. After I canceled the tow, he began calling me back-to-back, threatening to impound my trailer and "ruin my life." When I told him I wouldn't be strong-armed into doing business with him, he suddenly changed his story--from being 3-4 hours away to claiming he was "already on site" so he could charge a show-up fee. It escalated further when he claimed the store owner where my trailer was parked had asked him to impound it and that I had 15 minutes to get there--knowing full well I was over 4 hours away. At that point, I had no choice but to call the police and file a report in case my trailer was stolen or damaged before another tow company arrived. This behavior was completely unprofessional, dishonest, and aggressive. Avoid this company at all costs. No customer should ever have to deal with threats and intimidation from a tow operator.

When we asked them, they pointed us to the casino next door. The Shell down the road sells lottery. I'm not entirely sure why we stopped here because we went to the Shell last time but oh well. My friend said the bathroom didn't smell bad but I thought it smelt slightly foul. There was soap and warm water and paper towels. The selection of items and food seemed to be rather good. They had batteries and lighters which impressed me. The microwave was also impressive to see in such a random mart. We got Reese's pieces and melon rings for $5.98 which doesn't seem too bad. There were a few things out of order on the hot drinks machine but I wasn't in the mood for any hot drinks so it didn't matter to me. The cashier wasn't enthusiastic or especially nice in any way. She seemed like she was just there to do the bare minimum.

Now, I asked the attendant who distributes the gas thinking maybe it's processing involved some sort of Shamanic ceremony. He said he didn't remember. Right. That's the go to answer to shake me off the trail. But I know better than that. I'm certain it has mystical origins. Believe what you want. Wink, wink.
