Put truck in dealership shop to prepare it for my trip. Four hours later, after bringing in a retired master tech, dealership determined it was a bad ground and re-wired it. Went to my trailer and lights still don't work. Next day I call T.P. Trailers and they say bring truck in. Three minutes and ninety five cents later I have a new fuse and my trailer lights work. Then the mechanic showed me what to do in case it happened again.

I stopped by for a quote, and from the start, J.T. was very transparent with us and told us that pricing would depend on how perfect we wanted the damage to look after the fix. He gave us a very fair price for an intermediate fix, which we decided to go with. Later on, we got a phone call that the fix was quicker than they thought, and they were knocking the price down even further. It's hard to come by this kind of honesty. Also, had a great conversation with the owner of the business about a modified Jeep he gave me a ride in to a rental car place. Would definitely love to give more business to this place. Very impressed.

They sold me a diagnostic check costing $209. After that was done, I was informed that it needed to go to stage 2, costing an untold amount, and it was unclear. They told me I would need to leave the car overnight, when over the phone Ty had made it sound like what I needed would take a few hours at most. The saving grace was the mechanic who told me, moments before I took their custom-wrapped shuttle vehicle to my apartment, who shot straight and told me it would cost more than the car to have what they intended to do for stage 2 diagnostics. I was not made aware of the potential costs before being ushered to the shuttle to my apartment. I only found out because I had to retrieve things from my car and spoke with the man doing the actual work. I verbally chewed out Brown, and to his credit, he accepted the ire with a calm manner and spoke kindly, which I really respect, but to be fair, he never made it clear what the stage 2 diagnostics comprised of and what the projected cost would be, allowing me to assume things were still heading in a clear direction. The reality was that the mechanic had never done this sort of computer work before and would need to build a custom reader. I did not find out until I spoke with the mechanic about what was actually happening. What made this so frustrating was that I told Brown I was down to my last dollar and borrowing money. I do not feel as if the best effort was made toward transparency of cost when it really mattered. I'm used to speaking with an honest, hardworking mechanic.

He mentioned they provide free van service so I could leave my car and when service was completed, the van would pick me up at home and take me back to the stop. Jeff took me home and I waited a few hours before Darren called to say the coolant lines were leaking, the gasket needed to be replaced, and they would take it for a test drive before he would call me to say it was ready. Darren said it should be ready today and also gave me a price quote. Around 3:00PM I spoke to Darren and said if my car would be ready today, I would have to leave within the next 20 minutes to take the bus to the shop before they closed at 5:00PM. Darren said the van was leaving to pick me up. To my surprise in about 10 minutes Jeff was outside my house in my car! He wanted me to test drive back to the shop. Darren said there would be no charge if I brought my car in two weeks later to see if there were any leaks. I told Darren I was so glad I took my car to Automotive Powertrain. These people are the most honest, hard working automotive repair shop I have had the pleasure to deal with.
