While we were in Chicago, Hubby wanted to take me to see the "Bean" or Cloudgate in Millennium Park. As my photos show, it was a partly cloudy day, but lots of people were there and it was fun to take pictures, inspect the sculpture and people watch. I visited a friend at this beautiful residential building. It's stunning and in an iconic location. Millennium Park, Maggie Daley Park and Grant Park are next door. Bustling Michigan Avenue is right outside the door. But there is a tranquil rear lobby as well. The views are amazing. Depending on the unit, you can see Michigan Avenue, the parks and Lake Michigan. The doorman was very polite and helpful. I was asking several questions and he did not seem to mind. If you are looking to live in the heart of it all, check this place out. read more

After living here for a couple of months I feel I am in a great position to write a thorough review about my experience living here. First, let's start with location. For the price you really cannot beat it. Living right off of Michigan Ave, next to Millennium Park, and the world renowned restaurants has definitely been a plus. You can walk pretty much anywhere in the loop, and to Gold Coast/Near North as well. Transit is readily available and abundant. If you don't feel like walking around you always have the option for public transportation. Next, let's turn to amenities. With a gym built in, an indoor pool, as well as locker rooms furnished with their own steam rooms it's really the perfect escape. Especially during times where you do not feel like leaving the building, you have everything you need right here. Did I mention there are study rooms and conferences rooms as well as a service floor with laundry machines? It's really all great! Living arrangements? Superb. The apartments all have to die for views of the city generally. The kitchens have dark wood cabinets with granite counter tops and are fully stocked with up to date appliances. It has been such a pleasure to cook in my kitchen given the fact that it is so spacious. Finally, we turn to the staff. Everyone's favorite part, am I right? To me, you can have all the bells and whistles but if it doesn't feel like home it doesn't feel like home. The staff here has really made this place feel so much warmer and brighter (especially given the fact that it is a touristy location in town). The leasing office is always so helpful, the maintenance always responds within 24 hours of a work order, and the front desk staff are so great. Deavonn in the leasing office, Sam the front desk attendant, and all of the lovely people at the dock have made this experience that much more pleasurable. I am so grateful to have had an opportunity to live here and I would choose this place over and over again. Thank you. read more

The pros and cons from my July 2016 review still accurate. An update though that I haven't heard the bucket boys and street musicians on Michigan Ave for a while, maybe because it's been winter? Or some new city regulations came out restricting their performance (there was a newsletter from MPP management a while ago but I don't remember what the decree is). Recent things I'm very thankful to the building: 1. very fast response time for repair requests 2. Terry and Sha Ron in the management office were very helpful in getting my subletting situation resolved. It was a lot of paperwork and thanks to them I can properly sublet my 2nd bedroom. A con, the building has been updating internet recently and the internet company Supernova was doing upgrades to make the internet faster. Great initiative. However, for approximately 1 week internet was so unstable in the building - I use internet at night and on the weekends mostly - that I was forced to broadcast internet from my phone. It's been 2 weeks and sometimes internet still goes off with no warning but it's definitely a lot better. read more

I've lived in MPP for two years, and it's been a good place to stay. It isn't the flashiest of the buildings in the area, but it's conveniently located (across the street from a Metra stop and a couple blocks away from nearly all of the L stops). MPP staff are extremely friendly, and it always feels like you're interacting with a real human being when you need something. The three bedrooms on the southern facing side of the building have a BEAUTIFUL view of Millennium Park, Michigan Ave, and Lake Michigan. read more

Good location. Cheap. Okay apartment. Bad internet. I've been living here for almost 2 years. The best part about living here is the location and the price. It's close to all train lines (L and Metra), close to Mariano's and close to Target. There are like 4 Starbucks within one block from this apartment. There are cheap food like Naf Naf Grill, and Oasis Cafe. The rent is pretty cheap too. Our 3 bedroom is about $3,300. Parking is an extra $250. First payment can be charged to your credit card, but after that it's either account transfer or check. All their staff are very nice and friendly. The repair is fast and usually done within one day. The amenities are great. I like the rooftop area (when it opens). The internet here from Supernova Networks (check out their rating on Yelp) is fast but inconsistent and very unreliable. The management said it's "free" and so you can't do anything about it. We tried many times to contact Supernova Networks and the management to fix this problem, but nothing is done to fix this problem. The apartment itself is quite old. The elevators are super slow. They don't have a central AC or a programmable thermostat so the heating can be expensive (about $160 during winter and about $60 during summer) or the apartment can get too cold during the winter. The location can also be a con. It's hard to find a cheap parking around here (the parking in the front is $6.50/hour and $3.25/hour after 9 pm). There are also a problem with noise since the apartment is bad at sound insulation from the traffic and the "bucket boy". read more

I want to comment specifically on how absolutely fantastic Deavonn Jenkins and his team have been. I've just finished a two year stint at MPP (the building is largely student housing). The location is incredibly convenient albeit a bit busy. Dormell, Sam, and Rich at the front desk area all great and VERY helpful. Steve Cano, in maintenance, is FANTASTIC. He replaced all the parts in my shower, including upgrading the shower head and adding in new light bulbs. He is very thorough and kind and I cannot sing his praises enough. He was able to not only fix the things that were an issue but found ways to update my apartment fixtures that I didn't even know were possible. I really appreciated all he did and my only complaint is that I'm not staying much longer to get the opportunity to enjoy his great work! read more

I live in a great building the location is awesome but what makes it great are the people. Fred is one of the busiest people you'll ever meet you will probably never see him resting until he's going home, he's Uber nice soft spoken and a great guy overall Sam @ our front desk in the evening I don't think I have enough space to write all that's great about him so I'll sum it up punctual great conversationalist listen when you need & quick to assist he's the best. Ricardo & Dormell greatnesses wrapped up in the best package, James was a awesome guy he's another like Fred always busy friendly and always ready to assist when need not when asked he's already asking if he could help. The lady's oh how I miss Vera this young lady knew this job and gave her all she's the most amazing woman I've ever met always smiling so many in the building brought her gifts because she went out of her way to help. Alisha, Kiara I don't see them as often but make no mistake there presence is known kindness goes a long way and they make sure you never forget those smile warm greetings and again the readiness to assist at any given moment. Just walk away. Please don't waste your time. What once was a good deal is pretty horrible right now with the construction. Elevator issues, elevators closed off, management unresponsiveness, doors being closed off, lobby half closed, packages lost, explosions, fires and probably more to come... If the construction is completed you'll be paying too much for an average apartment space. Pay the extra money and live in another building. read more

My fellow MPP neighbors have some pretty horrid things to say about this place (just keep reading the reviews - you'll find them). Having lived in 6 different apartment complexes across the city of Chicago, I have to admit that this one is pretty much on par with all the rest of them (i.e. management is apathetic and conditions are, at best, inconvenient and at worst, dangerous). My 2 years here have been just as hit or miss as everywhere else I've lived. **Caveat: this is the first time I've lived in the Loop, so I don't know about other places nearby** However, there are a few things about MPP that you should know before deciding to sign a lease: (1) Management communication is laughably horrible. Almost as bad as their response time to serious issues (think: water outages, flooded bathrooms, etc). No one was informed of the planned construction until after it started, and we still haven't been given an end date. (2) The construction is terrible, and you don't get ANY rent relief or additional amenities. And no, MPP management: a handful of bottled waters and juices to service the ENTIRE building Do. Not. Count. I bet when the construction ends (IF it ends), they'll jack up apartment rates even higher. Not worth it. (3) Be prepared to share your front sidewalk with the eight zillion tourists that flood Michigan Avenue nonstop. And the street performers that cater to them (i.e. the kids w/bucket drums). I honestly think it's worth it to take a look at other buildings nearby, especially ones a little further off Michigan... it's worth the extra 5 minute walk to wherever you need to be. read more

DO NOT FALL FOR THE 'CHEAP RATES' AT THIS APARTMENT. This has hands down been the worst apartment experience I have ever had. The main concern for this apartment is the Management. Mainly, Terry Patrick. Everyone else has attempted to help or tried to ease concerns. The management on the other hand continues to lie to and deceive its residents. 1. Construction - Residents were never told when signing the lease the longevity and severity of the construction. We were told there would be some remodeling and that it would be done in a few months. One year later, its worse than ever. Elevators don't work (you'll be waiting 10-15 minutes for one), there is only one entrance and exit for the building, and things are routinely out of order. Rent continues to increase every year, but construction does not stop. When large apartment tours come around they actually tried to hide all the bad stuff - pushed elevators closed, opened construction areas, put up pretty pictures (all in the name of sales). Everything went back to normal once the tours left. 2. Heat - The apartments are very poorly insulated. If you get an apartment on the 38th floor DO NOT TAKE IT! I had a 186 sq ft studio and my heating bills for winter bills were approximately $125 a month (sometimes more). My apartment continued to stay very cold - never going above 65 degrees with the heat running all day. After months and months of complaining I finally got another heating unit installed. My bills are still high but at least I'm warm. I have never been so patronized before by a landlord when I've complained about legitimate issues I had. I was ignored for several months and when I showed Terry my heating bills, she said there was nothing wrong. 3. Service - The front desk is very nice and wants to help, but can't do much around management. The management does not want to be straight forward or willing to listen to its residents when problems arise. Even asking simple questions about lease terms, subletting, etc are met with rude or patronizing responses. The apartments may look appealing to students who are shopping on a budget. However, you run the risk of getting what you paid for in terms of service and quality. read more

The location is great, front desk, and mailroom staff are very nice. But you can definitely find better for the price and service you get. Me and my roommate have been living here for a little while and are already searching for a new apartment. The apartment is freezing cold, drafts throughout. Terrible A/C and heating units. Even with the heat blasting on high its still freezing cold. The building manager Terry is not the friendliest or most professional. Communicating with them is a nightmare. They ignores emails that are pertaining to the maintenance of the apartment which is their job. Also the building allows smoking in the units so you may smell anything from cigarettes to drugs. If you have breathing or lung problems or want to avoid getting them look for a smoke free building and one that has management that cares about the building and its tenants. read more

Living here for 2y. The building was really disrespectful with residents by starting a renovation without notice. The renovation is ver inconvenient in many ways and the management does not provide any clear information about how much more we are going to be annoyed by this renovation, which will bring us no benefit. Besides, the building is old and many services do not function well, like cable and internet. read more

Prepare yourselves, this will be a lengthy review. I have lived at MPP for 2 years and, overall, I have truly enjoyed my experience here. Despite a few issues I have had with the management, maintenance, and other tenants - MPP is still deserving of 4 stars. I moved to MPP from a six story building in Lincoln Park. The large rooms, hardwood floors, spacious kitchen and living room, and views of Lake Michigan/Millennium Park were the biggest drawing features. I live in the master bedroom of a 3 bedroom unit and let me tell you, this is the largest room I have ever seen in Chicago. The room is huge, it has an attached bathroom and a walk in closet. The master bathroom has jack and jill sinks and a door separating the shower and toilet area from the sinks; making it feel a little more private which is nice. Now, the closet. This thing is massive. I can literally fit a twin size bed in there and still have room. It has two tiers which gives you more room for your clothes. This was a big "step up" from what I was used to and the bougie felt so real. Plus, the 3 bedroom was only $3400. Which is a steal, especially for this area! They also have a beautiful indoor pool with a nice rooftop. The gym (also on the 38th floor) had everything I needed - treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, work out equipment, and an aerobics room. Additionally, the location is PRIME. The building is near everything you would want in a city - all of the trains and buses, grocery stores, the park, walking distance to river north, an attached Nutella cafe, Nandos, Garretts popcorn, Stan's Donuts, Davids Tea, Protein Bar, and near other great restaurants, and free movies and yoga at the Pritzker pavilion. Last, but not least, the staff. Doormen - Dormell and Sam are great. They are so friendly and have always said hello as I walk in. Package room workers - Jordan, Alisha, Laquita. They are the best. After a while, they remember you and will already know which packages are yours. It makes getting the packages a million times more convenient. Plus, they tell me when it is a big package or multiple packages and if I will need a cart to push everything. Maintenance, I miss Elvis a lot. He was so nice, helpful, and always took care of any maintenance issue I had. It was nice to see someone with a sense of humor! As of late, Michael has been repairing any issues I have and I have no complaints. Again, last, but not least, Deavonn Jenkins (DJ). I can honestly say he has done a lot of work to make my stay at MPP more enjoyable. I know if I contact him he will get the job done. Unfortunately my unit has had some weird issues, but DJ has gone above and beyond to resolve everything. I am very appreciative of all of his efforts. Overall, the facilities, the service, and the location is great! Now, do not get me wrong I have had some issues. The laundry machines being one of them. The company has charged more than they should have, my clothes have not gotten fully washed or dried, and sometimes people take my clothes out of the dryer despite it only being there for a few minutes after it's done. Next up, the Chicago Booth-ers. Now, in case you do not know, there are a TON of Chicago Booth students that live in the building. This means that they probably do not have a job and do not care if they are throwing loud parties on a Tuesday night or leaving beer cans in the lobby or elevator. There are some straight savages on the weekends. Another issue that many other Yelpers seem to comment on are the "bucket boys." This may be the worst thing about the location of the building. You can hear the people drumming on their buckets all throughout the day. It is extremely irritating and despite being on the 34th floor, I can still hear it. Now, these things are of no consequence of MPP itself. However, there are a few things I wish MPP would change. First, on the door leading into the pool, the hours are listed from 6 AM to 9 PM daily. But on the weekends there are times where my guests and I have gotten kicked out at 5 PM. So either MPP needs to update their signage or tell their workers that the pool does not close until 9 PM. Secondly, there are signs in the gym that say to try and be quiet because there are rooms right next to the gym. That makes no sense to me. Weights are loud and if I have headphones in then I will not hear how loud the machines are. Thirdly, I wish they cleaned the exterior windows more often. There are a ton of cobwebs outside of my window and a once a year clean is not enough. Lastly, the internet. Supernova sucks - please get rid of them. It's sooo inconsistent. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Make it happen MPP! I think that's it folks. Despite the issues I have addressed above, I still love MPP and will have to give it the 4 stars. I've loved my time at Millennium Park Plaza. There's so much around the building: parks, museums, restaurants, events and you really feel like you're in the city. Life in the building is easy with tons of conveniences in the building. The construction is going to be great! I'm going to be here for a while so I'm really excited to have stores on the first floor. Also, whether or not the renovation gets completed, internet is still a huge issue. It drops unpredictably (and more often in the daytime than at night), which is a huge nuisance as you lose your connection when you least expect it. Glad I moved out. I suppose I'll be a contrarian on this one. MPP used to be saddled with awful construction, but by now, it seems that it is pretty much (perhaps completely) over. This place is really not as awful as reviews would make it seem. I'm a Chicago Booth student and over 150 of us live here, and the network effects are totally worth it--taking the elevator to my friend's place when it's negative 30 degrees outside is amazing. The apartments are cheaper than others in the area, and whenever I need a light bulb changed, it happens within 24 hours, usually under 12 hours. The guys at the front desk are friendly and nice. There have certainly been a comedy of errors here, most of which you can read about below, but for the last few months, I'd say there's nothing wrong with this place at all. Except the construction noise going on across the street at Lake & Michigan. Though there's really nothing MPP Management can do about that. read more

A great place to live! The apartments are very spacious compared to other buildings on the same block. It's right next to Millennium park attractions and across the street from the subway stop. For the first year I lived here I had only good things to say about the building. The front door and loading dock staff is friendly, helpful and cheerful. The apartments are not luxurious but fair, with decent space and a good location. The elevators are a pain and can take too long, but that was fine. Until I had to interact with the management office to renew my lease. They are extremely unhelpful, unreliable and unresponsiveness (5 days to answer a simple email and when you get an answer, after a follow up, it is a very rude answer). My suggestion is before you rent ask if Terry Patrick is still the property manager. If you get an yes for an answer I would run like you are running for your life. Trust me on this (actually me and the other numerous reviews that complain about the management office). Columbus Plaza is the same price, space and a few blocks away, and the management office is much better. read more

I moved to MPP as a full-time MBA student at UChicago Booth and the place has made for a wonderful home during these two years. The proximity to downtown destinations (bars, restaurants, the Gleacher Booth building, the MATTER and 1871 start-up incubators at The Merchandise Mart, the Blue Line train stop to Hyde Park, etc.) is a treasured convenience and has made my time here in Chicago incredibly positive. Likewise, while there have been intermittent areas for improvement, the staff is incredibly friendly, helpful, responsive to any issues, and committed to constantly improving the building. On their end they've made significant investments to stabilize and improve the wifi service, the laundry machines, etc. and the facilities (laundry, computer lab, study lounge, gym & pool deck, elevators, hallways & lobby) are maintained in fantastic shape. I've been very lucky and they clearly care and work hard, which is very much appreciated. read more

This is an updated review after living for 11 months at MPP. SMOKING IS ALLOWED INSIDE THE UNITS, IT IS VERY BAD if you get an unlucky unit, AND YOU CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT IT, increasing your chance of getting cancer down the road. The management sent an air filter that has the effectiveness of an umbrella made out of tissue paper. You are not allowed to terminate the lease. Sure you can sublease, but who will actually want to take your unit when they smell smoke? The way the floors are made in the building allow smoke and odor to travel freely between a few floors. I smelled the burnt food two floors above me, cigarette, other drugs, and new paint from neighboring units. Many of my friends who live here smell marijuana. If you search in Yelp for the word "rehab" you will find another reviewer mentioned rehab patients. I don't know who my neighbors are, but if the are indeed rehab patients, they are not doing a good job rehabbing because they smoke all kinds of drugs multiple times a week and are very frustrating to deal with. Their drug habits fill up all three of our unit's bedrooms and sometimes into the living room as well. If I report them to the management, during heavy bouts of smoking, they seem to increase their smoking for a few days, even though they know that I have an infant and a two year old, (which is the most heart-breaking thing, knowing that they are intentionally trying to harm them). MPP Management, if you are reading this and sincerely want to help my children, please let me move out a month or two early, and please inform potential residences about smoking being allowed in the lease, because I would NEVER have leased this apartment if I had known about the smoking issue. Since the staff at MPP has been absolutely wonderful, I'll keep my old 5-star review that I posted a month after I moved in as a token of gratitude for the staff who helped me a lot when I lived here: Sam, Steve, Ricky, Michael, DJ, Chris, and Terry. They are very professional and solve problems quickly (except for the smoking, which is not the staffs' fault, but is allowed by the owners). ==== Old 5-Star Review posted 2017/7/7 ==== I selected Millennium Park Plaza in the spring of 2017 after weeks of extensive research of downtown Chicago apartments. The main complaint on Yelp at that time was the internet. The internet got revamped shortly before I arrived and it's been super fast (I game a lot) and reliable (never dropped). Another complaint was the elevator time. I have been here for a month and there has never been an issue. The units remodeling was finished years ago. Honestly it doesn't take much longer to get to my 19th floor than my previous 5-story apartment. The location and price are huge pluses. Just next door, MILA apartments has their 2 bedrooms about a thousand more expensive than MPP's 3 bedrooms. MILA gets the same noise from the streets, the same location, but at a much higher price. The fire engines are frequent, but if you close the windows it's not bad. Everything you'd want is within walking distance. A few examples within 5 blocks: Grocery (Mariano), Target, Ace hardware, CVS, Walgreens, Staples, tons of fast food (Jimmy John's, Shake Shack, Subway, Roti, Protein Bar, Noodles and Co, Garrett Popcorn, Burger King, McDonald's, Panda Express, etc. etc.) and of course Millennium Park/Grant Park itself with a ton of free events in the summer. I have 2 young children without a car. We can get everywhere with a stroller and there is a big playground in the park next to Mariano's. Maggie Daley park is great too, not to mention a ton of museums around. Each room is also large enough to fit a king-sized bed (I have two of them). Even the smallest room in the 3 bedroom can fit a king-sized bed and a desk (with not much room in between though). There is a heater AC in each room which is a big plus because rooms have different temperatures from different insulation. I'd like to thank the entire MPP staff for working with me. They are all wonderful. Erika and Terry went out their ways to get me my apartment. Julie was the first to greet and welcome me. Deavon, Elvis, and Ricky helped replace my leaking dishwasher with a new one within a few hours. I look out the window and see the wonderful city high rises and feel gratitude. read more

There are certainly more luxurious buildings in the area but for the combination of price, location, amenities and feel this building can't be beat. There is an odd mix of residents and businesses in the building but it all seems to work well. The building staff has been great- front desk guys are awesome- (especially Sam and Rich). The building underwent a construction upgrade in the lobby area and it now feels downright nice. The hallways need some renovation but the apartments are great- granite counters, good Ac/heat and terrific free Internet. The building is close to every L line, 4 bus lines, south shore metra, the loop, the lake, river north and grocery stores. I am so disappointed by the way Terry in the management office handled the very important issue of invasion of privacy that we had in our apartment. I asked to meet and talk to her downstairs in her office to discuss the problem and she say that she can only talk to me on the phone, and not in person, which was odd. I asked if she would have time anytime in the next few days, and she again mentioned that we can ONLY talk on the phone. This is the second time we experience such unprofessional behavior from her, even though she brags about doing her job for 30 years every time a subject comes up. I really like the hardworking people in the management office, but this is just disappointing. I wouldn't renew my lease, and wouldn't recommend this management to others. read more

After living at MPP for two years, I moved out recently but only to move cities. Given the price, I loved MPP but recognize that it really was a mediocre apartment at best. Pros - incredible location and very affordable rent Cons - inept management and low quality construction If you want a "nice" apartment, MPP is not for you. read more
