Timely trains for the most part and going southbound a couple stations it totally worth catching the Baby Bullet (3 stops) vs Standard train (11 stops). Cuts the commute by more than half. Well lit & usually well kept station. Platforms are just an escalator ride away from Bart. Convenient location easily accessible off the Main Street and from 101/280. Free county-operated shuttles to Broadway in Burlingame with a couple connections to San Mateo / Redwood Shores shuttles. read more

Terrific transfer point between BART and CalTrain -- close to El Camino Real and good restaurants and shopping. Went to a Giants game recently and getting there and back from CalTrain/Millbrae was quite convenient. Be prepared to climb stairs at the station and stop (on BART) at SFO, tho! read more

Not bad for the only station where BART and Caltrain intersect. This would be your transfer spot if you need to switch between the two services. The Caltrain station is on the west side (NOT the side closer to SFO), where there's a long narrow parking lot for Caltrain parking. There seems to be easy access to some bus lines from this side too, but I've never used them. If you ride Caltrain, you can also park in the BART 5 story garage on the east side if you have EZRider linked to your Clipper Card. There's a BART parking validation machine just outside the BART gates (near where the station agent sits). Just make sure you don't park in a reserved spot. Works vice versa as well - basically you can park in either lot and take either service :) Usually there is some coordination between the two lines, so that the commuters who need to transfer can get on without having to wait too long, but trains are late sometimes and it's not all rainbow and unicorns. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Going from Caltrain to BART, you can go through the gates at ground level, but going BART to Caltrain, you have to go upstairs to tag off of BART first, then go back downstairs for Caltrain. Not sure why the station level gates aren't two way, but just keep that in mind especially for tight transfers (and just follow the crowd). read more

This "newer" state of the art (at the time) Bart and Caltrain station has gotten old quite quickly. It's sketchy during the night and abandoned during the day ( like any of the stations on the Bart line ), but sadly there really isn't anything to do nearby. I grew up in Millbrae and while there's an In-n-out nearby if you're adventurous, don't stray too far before missing your train. A busy hub when it comes to Giants games as well, so be prepared to search for parking on your way into the city. Overall bland and the area around it sucks. Check out the palm trees that must cost a fortune to maintain. This ain't San Francisco or Palo Alto yet. read more

This place is clean. In an OK location. Trains roughly run every 45mins. Access to BART or to the Airport is seamless from here and not expensive if carpooling with rideshare from this location you will save a bundle plus beat a lsrge chunk of traffic and wasted time if you go online and do some work. Look at times. Time yourself accordingly. Save a good 20 to 25 bucks a day. Also be aware at nights homeless activity and transient on the catwalks or exterior perimeter working people for money. Parking is plentiful and local law enforcement has a station nearby. Taxi service is here 24/7. Access to SF And Oakland games are easy. Prices are very comparable and 30% less than taxi or rideshare if timed right no surges and some fares are free if the Giants or a company sponsors a designated sports train. Lots to know. The main issue for me with this station is that there are only two ticket dispensers. That on top of the fact that you have to take an escalator, walk across the platform and take the stairs down to the Caltrain level usually means you'll either need to run it to make your train or be okay with a wait. I'm not a fan of this station in general. The BART/Caltrain layout makes very little sense and the signage for transfer isn't great. Meh. read more

Yes, this station is huge! It is because it is where both BART and CalTrain meets one another. This station needs more signs directing folks to their next destination, such as what transportation to take to go to SFO. That is, if a traveler does not know what type of transportation to take to go to the San Francisco International Airport. If not possible with signs, there should be a message over the PA every five or ten minutes. I am saying this as I too was confused as to the layout and especially where to go to meet a friend who was picking me up. If I can be confused (having grown up in the Bay Area, that is), I am sure an out of towner would be even more confused. read more

Very well lit at night in what appears to be a safe neighborhood abs it's still in zone 1 for Caltrain so getting to San Francisco from here is at it's cheapest rate. It's convenient that you can transfer to the BART as well. Also a convenience is that there are lots of taxis standing by as well! read more

Parking is a joke here. Even if you pay the $80+ for the monthly parking permit, don't expect to get a spot. On weekdays, the lot gets filled up so fast that you won't be able to find parking if you come here after 8am. Also parking is $5 a day here whereas Bart parking is $3 a day. read more

My big complaint with this station is that it was poorly designed. The architect must have been an idiot or someone that was never at a train station before. It's cold, rainy, and leaves you exposed to the elements. Buses stop on the Bart side rather than on CalTrain's side. There's different prices for CalTrain's parking lot versus Bart's lot. On either side, there's no obvious signs for where to pay for parking so you see people walking around looking for where to pay. This station was built to accommodate transfers to SFO, but the turnstiles are too small for luggage and there's no real signage pointing to the elevators for people with luggage or strollers. This really tells you how horrible and disjointed our public transit system is in the Bay Area. I typically takes the CalTrain to Millibrae, and then transit to BART to fly out of SFO. But on the return trip, what usually happens is as followed: (1) I get onto the BART at SFO (2) The train arrives at Millbrae. I need to then catch the Caltrain on the other side. (3) The Caltrain always arrives 2 minutes afterward, leaving me absolutely no time to take my heavy luggage up and down the stairs and buy the Caltrain ticket. I usually end up missing the train and having to wait an hour or two houirs for the next Caltrain. These two publlic transits are just so dysfunctional that they could not even talk to each other to make life easier for transit users. read more

Very complex station that is easy to navigate through! You can hop on Caltrain, Bart and even some commute.org shuttles. If you're fortunate enough, your company may even have free shuttles from this location. Make sure to give yourself extra time if arriving at this station anywhere from 7:30am-9:30am on weekdays. Parking in the Bart garage may take time and patience. Speaking of the Bart garage, you do not have to be a Bart rider to park here!!! To make life easier, set up the "EZ Rider" on your clipper card so you don't need to carry cash for parking!!! The machine to "tag" is directly next to the machines that only accept cash. You just need to make sure your car won't be in the garage for more than 24 hours and you're good to go! Bottom line: Set up EZ rider to a smoother commute. read more

This station is huge! Feels like an actual city station with all the different platforms, signs to go this way and that, especially since there's a Bart station here as well. Unfortunately though, we got here 30 minutes early and had to wait in the freezing cold the whole time. This is a HUGE end of the line station for the BART which I used a few times while chillin in the Bay Area. I'm such a mass transit nerd/fan, that I just love it all. I'm not a local, but I have crushes on you all with transit systems like this. I like just hanging out and watching all the hub bub, and people. I like watching BART trains come in and also the cooler looking Caltrans commuter ones as well. A few of my friends have picked me up and dropped me off here a few times recently, and it's always been super convenient. As I said, it's HUGE, and there is also a pretty large parking lot. So, I'm sure many business commuters use this hub non-stop. read more

Pros: Going North from CalTrain to Bart is a snap as it's the same platform divided by fare gates. Cons: Going South from Bart to CalTrain is a nightmare of running up the stairs, over the upper deck to cross the CalTrain tracks, and down the other flight of stairs only to see the CalTrain doors close in your face. CalTrain, being run by AmTrak, is probably never going to change it's schedule to sync with Bart since, well, it's being run by AmTrak... Bart, being more of a subway system, probably can show up a little earlier. The daily parking on the Bart side parking garage is two dollars per day vs. the four dollars per day that CalTrain charges for the lot on the CalTrain side. You do the math... And it's a shorter walk from the Bart side garage. read more

Caltrain and BART are a happily married couple here, transfers are super easy and it's a fast way to get to the airport. Can't say that this caltrain station is remarkably better than any other; none of them are terribly hospitable... but at least this one has found its life partner in the BART system. read more

My review is on the SFO Bart to Millbrae Caltrain transfer to the south bay. It is the worst planned transfer ever! In fact I think the south bound Caltrain purposely leaves right as the passengers get off of the Bart train from SFO so that we have to wait another hour for the next train! I have tried to catch the southbound Caltrain a few times, only to see it pull away from the station as I run down the stairs!!!! Doesn't Caltrain know when a Bart train from SFO arrives? At least give us five minutes to buy a ticket and get on Caltrain. If you miss the train on the weekend, you have to wait an hour for the next train! I take Caltrain to be green, but if I have to wait another hour after a long flight, I rather have someone pick me up from SFO or take a cab. read more

Caltrain isn't the best train system you can find, but here in the Bay Area it does its job. The Millbrae station is of more importance than SF or SJ because it connects you to BART and therefore the city, the east bay, and the airport. This station is also better equipped than most on the Peninsula. read more

Of all of the Caltrain stations, I have the worst feelings towards Millbrae. Why? Because I have spent so many hours sitting in the cold/rain/wind waiting for the next train to come. Somehow I always end up on a BART that arrives a minute after the Caltrain I need, leaving me to wait for an hour. After a long flight from the East Coast, I decided to skip the expense of a Taxi and the annoyance of a Super Shuttle and use public transit. The double BART connection wasn't terrible, but then I ended up sitting at Millbrae for over an hour. It was cold! and windy! And I just came from Boston, so I was sick of the cold. Why can't they install little wind blocks, like at bus stations? There are a few sheltered places, but they only fit a small number of people. read more

I know that it's a bit odd to be writing a review about, of all things, a Caltrain station. But people need to be forewarned about something. There is a guy who, every afternoon-early evening, from roughly 2pm-7pm (at least that's when I've seen him there), always asks people for money to get to San Jose or wherever. Ignore him. I've seen him almost everyday and I find it really surprising that he really needs the money since he dresses in expensive-looking clothes. I think that he uses it for cigarettes or weed since I always see him smoking. The station itself is just alright. There are always taxi drivers waiting if anybody needs a ride. The janitors are apparently nonexistent since the trash doesn't get emptied that often. I've seen trash all over the parking lot and even on the tracks thanks to the wind blowing trash from the usually over-filled trash cans. 3 stars read more

oh lord, another train station review What's funny about this place is the appearance that it was so over designed when it was built. I mean they must have really thought this place was a big deal when thinking it up. Today, they use about half the facility as one 1/2 of the bart tracks are not in operation. There are also these funny offices above overlooking the tracks like some kind of over the top command center. Needless to say I am grateful for cheap $1 parking (& free on weekends) and the sync up of Bart w/ Caltrain as a location (not as in the actual train times.) AND ONCE AND FOR ALL! CALTRAIN, GET SOME FREAK'N ELECTRONIC SIGNAGE TO IDENTIFY THE TRAINS AS THE COME IN. Take a hint from Bart. Seriously. read more

Great station to catch the Caltrains to the end of the line in San Francisco and walk over to AT&T Park and watch the San Francisco Giants beat the LA Dodgers 8-0 on a Monday night! This station is a little tricky/confusing since it is a main hub for both the CalTrain and BART. If you are catch either the train or the Bart going in the North Bound direction you will need to go up, over and down to the other side of the tracks to catch either train. Catching the Caltrain from this station to the end of the line in San Francisco was a great idea. Saved me $$ & time. Oh yeah, I found a primo parking spot right out front at curbside. The Caltrain travels from San Francisco to Gilroy. What better way to travel to the south bay than on the train. I usually pickup a drink and snack at SF and relax on the way home. They have a restroom on the train which Bart doesn't offer. $3.00 for all day parking and plenty of spaces. And monthly pass are $30.00. I think Caltrain is one of the cleanest public transportation in the bay area. read more

I usually commute to San Francisco from San Jose Diridon (I have a Caltrain monthly pass). Because the bullet trains stop running south bound after 6:33, and the trains get to be two hours to San Jose after that, I drive to Millbrae when I have after work plans. (Fremont would be closer, but I've heard too many horror stories about not being able to find parking that I've never even tried it) This station is convenient because I can use my monthly pass and also come back using the BART! It's also extremely clean and very easy to find parking. read more

Communing on CalTrain is an experience - the off hour trains are nice. Seats are available and the conductors usually stop and chat with the usual riders and barely hassle you for a ticket/Clipper card once they see you a few times on the same train. (make sure you have paid, tho - they'll mess you up with a $300 fine if you don't! Don't risk it or the embarrassment...) There are ticket machines everywhere - they added a ton of Clipper Card readers and vending machines at this station, on both levels and at each track (BART and CalTrain) so super convenient for purchasing tix. This station is one of the cleanest, but I have to say it may be because it's also fricken' windy just about every late afternoon. But, that's Millbrae for you! I don't understand people complaining about 'missing a BART transfer to CalTrain' at this station - get on the BART train that's 15-20 min earlier... - It's not rocket science. Don't think that just because the schedules show a 2 min connection time that you're gonna make that - take things into account like delays caused by idiot passengers holding the doors or suicidal jumpers or whatever - c'mon, I mean really - They're not even run by the same agency for Pete's sake. If you're going CalTrain to BART - that one is a bit easer to swallow with only a 15-20 wait at the most if you miss it. And it's the end of the line for BART at this station, so a train is usually on time when headed Northbound. If you don't have that much time to spare then suck it up and deal with it - you miss that connection and you're gonna be waiting anyway - may as well be a few mins early in my opinion. OK. I'll stop ranting. But, overall, this is a clean, well lit station with TONS of parking (park in the garage for CalTrain so you don't overpay!!). read more

BART sucks. We live in Silicon Valley. Silicon Valley is the global epicenter of technology. BART is the worst public transportation system I have seen. It is a awful. We deserve better. I am tired of seeing "fare-evaders" walk right through without paying. There are homeless, drug users openly doing drugs on the train. The trains are dirty. They run infrequently. I gave two stars for this station because it has plenty of parking and is generally safe. But, BART as a system, is simply awful and we deserve better. read more
