I've ridden BART plenty of times before. Usually it's crowded, sometimes a little grimy, but it gets the job done. This time, though, I was honestly surprised. The SF International Airport station felt clean, organized, and surprisingly calm. Maybe was because it was Saturday? Who knows. Either way, the whole ride felt easy and peaceful -- a really nice way to head home after an emotional airport goodbye.

While visiting SanFran the traffic can be terrible, and parking is hard to come by, when in areas but many stations are conveniently located near major streets and popular attractions. There are 3 major lines to transverse between NorCal area - yellow, red and blue. The BART is clean and most people respect and follows the rules of "no eating or drinking". I also like now each exits are cornered off in plexiglass....previously it was wide opened so you see a couple local people (mostly teenagers or young adults ) jumping over the turnstiles to avid paying the fares.

Now featuring a Lot Cop for reduced car break-ins. Original Greyhound Terminal now owned and operated by Samtrans. No Public Access and No Greyhound service, but is an interesting building to look at. Makes we wish we had regional bus service to the Coast, it would connect well with Caltrain. NOTE ! Greyhound does still serve Redwood City one block away at 850 Winslow Street .. outside an abandoned store. At 12 AM Only. With service like this you're better off taking Samtrans or Caltrain. I used the "Throne" branded "free" toilet paid by my tax money. The entry process with the QR code and SMS text message was interesting, but functional. Of writing, this is a brand new, unused unit with no graffiti, trash or discoloration. TP was fully stocked, all plumbing/electrical worked and the toilets/sink function as expected with clean water. Fully ADA Compliant with NO issues with the access ramp.

One of the stops is at the Palo Alto Caltrain station and one of the stops along the route was probably 1/2 mile away from where I worked. Best of all is that the shuttle is free of charge and anyone can use it. The shuttle slow at getting to destinations and is a little late at times when you're waiting it but it's very convenient.

One drawback of this station is that it does not have any rain shelter or seating, like some other stations that do. The north and south bound platforms are separate approximately half a block apart.

The staff was nice and welcoming. Parking is not great since they don't have a parking lot. You have to find parking on the street. Depending on the day it's free to park. If you like antique type hotels, this one would be perfect for you. If not, do your research on what they offer.

The app offers six fixed breakfast choices, none of them wonderful. You get one beverage - choice of a number of coffee specialties (good) or orange juice (small - that's what the menu says). Can't have both coffee and orange juice without paying for one of them. My fixed choice included scrambled eggs (if they were two eggs, they were small ones), bacon (two strips - can you spare them?) and salad greens with Italian dressing - for breakfast? One slice of white toast, with jam. Anything else you pay for. This was the free breakfast in a property that charged over $400 for a Queen room. =================== Original review: The meticulously preserved yet comfortable Cardinal Hotel was the unexpected highlight of our visit to Palo Alto. It's 101 years old but in amazingly perfect condition. The lobby is a living museum - original wrought iron light fixtures, faux wood ceramic fireplace and tiled floor. The 1924 switchboard might be the only artifact that's not still in use. The preservation comes at little cost in comfort and function. The vintage elevator appears daunting, with an old-fashioned door you slide open by hand. But once it starts moving, the unexpectedly smooth, quiet ride evinces a modern mechanism. Our bathroom had touches lacking in most modern hotel rooms. The shower/tub had a normal faucet - not one of those single control horrors - and an excellent non-skid surface. The one concession to history is the lack of air conditioning. The ceiling fan and cross ventilation in our deluxe corner room was enough for us. Had it been hotter, we would have avoided the top floor. Some rooms lack an en-suite bathroom, but that only adds to the vintage atmosphere as long as you don't choose one of them. The desk staff was unfailingly pleasant and helpful.

The parlor car offered spacious, comfortable seating, VIP time with Santa Claus, a hot adult beverage, or nonalcoholic version, bottled water, snacks, Christmas cookies, and a great narrative of the ride. You're also allowed to walk the length of the train, but you need to have a wristband so you can get back into the parlor car area. Be prepared for lots of traffic as you drive to the train station from other parts of the Bay Area. Traffic is bad during the winter if not always. The train leaves right on time so you do not want to be late. Also, the railroad provides very detailed and helpful instructions about how to get to the depot and how to navigate the parking and other systems. They have outside train cars and inside train cars so you can choose what type of seat you want. This is definitely been worth the money and should become a holiday.
