I think this sculpture is part of the Mountain View Train station of the Caltrain and VTA and Centennial plaza

Easy ride on the Caltrain. Clean station with wide open spaces with car lot. Easy to find the Clipper card machine at station to tag off. If you don't take off, you get citation which I read on the Caltrain website where they charge you for the maximum ride. Make sure you don't forget! Unfortunately I forgot when. I went back to San Francisco end of the line. I was sleeping and forgot to tag out of the Caltrain. That's one disadvantage of having a Clipper card to save money because you have to tag on and off at each stop. They still dispense paper tickets, but I don't see the ticket agent walk around too often on the train in the morning. But on the way back to San Francisco on Saturday evening, I did see the ticket agent walk through the aisle more frequently due to a busy train with lots of people coming out. I didn't realize so many people take a Caltrain on weekends. I just went to the Mountain View Art and Wine Festival which was nice and easy ride. I hope they will clean the trains more. On the way here, the seat I was on in the second level was dirty with food crumbs. Other than that easy to take train and not drive. Like who wants to deal with drivers who can't drive on the road correctly and weaving through traffic with their big SUVs or other cars. Caltrain nice and relaxing to enjoy the scenery and towns it passes by.

Just a typical day at Caltrain MV

This place will always hold a special place in my heart. I love Mountain View. One of my best friends lives here and we've used this station as a focal point when planning adventures. It's one of the safer, dependable, and walkable Caltrain stops. Downtown Mountain View is literally right there. Cross at Hope street for easy access. Memories here include breezy weekends waiting for trains, browsing the handy dandy farmer's market on Sundays, forgetting where I parked my car while on a date to the point where aforementioned best friend had to come rescue me. I may or may not have kissed a guy here. I've definitely gotten a parking ticket here. Definitely consider parking at one of the lots nearby, which are free. There are a few at Hope and W. Evelyn, and at Hope and W. Dana. Just remember which damn lot you parked in or embarrassment occurs. They do ticket the Caltrain lot all weekend. I'm $48 poorer after my last Late Wake Up and Run for the Train to The City Adventure last weekend. Safety is key here. I've walked to my car at 2 am before and there will still be plenty of taxi guys even at this hour, as long as there's an event at Levi's or AT&T Park, until the last train comes in at least. It's well lit, too. I just plain love MV and this station. End of story, goodbye, the end.

What an amazing view from Saturday night...

Easy breezy station when traveling from San Francisco to Mountain View. Exit the Caltrain stop and you can connect to the VTA that goes to San Jose. Cross the street and you'll be a stone's throw from Castro Street (the Main Street in town). Very convenient to shopping & businesses!

    Daily parking 5.5 a day

Located in Mountain View downtown, it's the stop for both VTA Light Rail and CalTrain. The transit center is quite clean, not smelly or anything weird. Also there is a huge parking lot, the rate is daily for $5.5. I normally go there if I want to go to San Francisco without taking my car. The ticket one way is $8.25 and there is a fast train called bullet that skips many stops so it's a lot quicker, check the train schedule. Glad it still stops at Mountain View so it's quick and easy for me.

Location-wise, it's convenient, as it's right next to castro street which has a lot of shops and restaurants. For driving, it's right off Evelyn going 85N from the south bay. The station itself is a bit dirty and it shows wear and tear, but it runs fine. Parking: A Daily Parking Permit may be purchased for $4 from a Ticket Vending Machine. The parking lot is a good size, but it seems like its always fairly packed. Plan ahead for this... Also, read the parking instructions on their website before you actually go. This might help mitigate some of the confusion. Go to their website - find the tab "Rider Information" - go down to "Parking" - find instructions to park. Overall, parking seems to be the thing people complain about the most, and it's completely understandable. Plan ahead for this mess as best you can. Get there a bit early to scout for parking. If you're being dropped off, you should be good to go.

Tracks at the mountain view station
    Alex S.

This is not a transfer station like at Milbrae or any of the other stations further north so it is very straightforward, almost impossible to get lost. One track for northbound trains, and one track for southbound trains. There's also VTA behind the Caltrain tracks, but I've never used it before. There are plenty of ticket kiosks scattered around the station, the longest line I've encountered is about 4 people. Some of the kiosks are buggy, but let's be real they're all like that

Large parking lot, close proximity to Castro street. If you have time to kill before or after the train, there are a lot of possibilities.

Other times it's a mix of people from age 4 to 85 that want to go to the doctors, San Antonio Shopping Center or a random Starbucks. On Saturdays it can go near Shoreline so if you are biking near the VTA bus yard this bus can be your resting area thanks to their bike racks. I simply stood in an empty train figuring that eventually the doors would close & we'd be in motion. After 15 minutes, we were on our way. However, I'm glad to both not have driven and paid 2.00 one-way for my troubles, so the slog of a journey was worth it. I spied bike parking (four slots only) for those of us two-wheeler types in each train car. It's a nice gesture, but doesn't seem enough. VTA lightrail is tidy and spacious. I have to say it reminded me of the solid public transport systems in certain European countries I've visited and I was impressed. The clientele, like society at large, is a mixed bag. I had a few crazies on my round trip journey today, but managed to just ignore their rantings. A Call for Genuine Transportation Solutions…read more It's astonishing to witness the blatant disregard for implementing an efficient route to & from south county. These areas remain starkly neglected, despite persistent appeals for more expedient transportation options. The proposed system, which serves a few bus stops -- 1 in Gilroy, 1 in Morgan Hill, & potentially another in South San Jose--would connect a lot quicker to Diridon Station, but the current system, with several bus stops along Monterey Rd without ever going in the freeway, fails to quickly connect to Diridon Station for Caltrain. This oversight particularly affects those living just south of the Caltrain service cutoff during off-peak hours. Moreover, the notion of a separate route connecting to the North San Jose/Berryessa BART Station remains a distant dream. The insistence that the Rapid 568 is sufficient simply because it bears the label "rapid" is both misleading & disheartening. Residents of Morgan Hill & Gilroy have expressed that these services are far too slow, which takes over 2 times or even 3 or 4 times as long as a car ride. The reality is stark: driving from Morgan Hill to Diridon Station takes around 25 minutes, while the so-called "Rapid 568" drags on for over 50 minutes. One could just as easily rename it the "Less Slow 568." The route's failure to utilize the freeway for faster transit is baffling. The bus company even sometimes has the buses to say "Spare The Air", & to encourage people to take the bus instead of driving, which comes at the expense of their sleep time if they choose to use it for work purposes, all by which they won't if they have the ability & means to get a car. And despite the bus company encouraging people to take public transportation, most of those working in the corporate or headquarters level of the VTA bus company drive to & from work & don't do their part, highlighting a major hypocrisy among them! Is it too much to ask for a direct bus route that connects Gilroy to Diridon Station with minimal stops near the freeway? The alternatives are hardly feasible. For those considering rideshare options like Lyft or Uber, the financial burden is staggering--always over $30 or even often over $40 for a one-way trip, not to mention the expectation of tipping the driver. This scenario is not sustainable for daily commutes, especially for those in Morgan Hill or Gilroy who lack access to a car. A former VTA employee I spoke with expressed dismay at the apparent apathy within route management. He remarked that many of the staff seem to go to work just for a paycheck, a troubling indictment of a system that should prioritize the needs of its community. Imagine the transformation that could occur if these decision-makers were to relocate to Morgan Hill or Gilroy & rely on public transportation for their daily commutes. Their perspective would undoubtedly shift, catalyzing much-needed improvements in service. Unfortunately, the prevailing reality is that public transportation is not serving the people effectively. While there may be lofty goals to encourage a shift away from personal vehicles, such aspirations falter when faced with the prospect of sacrificing over 1 hour of commuting time for a 1 way trip, which means well over 2 hours in total daily commute when going to work only to much of San Jose & especially Santa Clara, especially if it means sacrificing almost half of normal sleep time just to take public transportation. This isn't merely conjecture; it's a palpable truth that drives individuals back to their cars, seeking convenience over inconvenience. The cycle is self-perpetuating. As more individuals opt for personal vehicles due to the inefficiencies of public transport, the ridership declines, leading to dwindling revenue for the very services that should be thriving. When I finally buy my own car, I won't miss public transportation in the slightest. I will relish the freedom it provides, & I can only predict that my experience will mirror that of countless others who find themselves in the same position. Ultimately, the message is clear: you reap what you sow. If public transportation continues on this path of neglect & inefficiency, it risks becoming obsolete. Change won't come from mere wishful thinking; it must be driven by the voices of those who demand better. Only through active engagement & persistent requests & having the city or county to put more serious people who won't be spending tax money unwisely but rather wisely to put more efficient route to work can we hope to create a transportation system that truly serves its community.

Example: Origin Station (Tag in) = San Francisco = Charge $14.70 Destination Station (Tag Out) = Sunnyvale = Refund $6.75 Total = $7.95 I was really confused by this at first since this is not how BART works where there is no charge at first and a charge after you exit. I definitely messed this up and even had to call Clipper customer service to help me fix one of my rides. 2.) Parking I thought there was ample parking at the station when I went but other reviews says it's difficult. I didn't have any issues here. 3.) Cleanliness For some reason this station was pretty dirty. There were homeless remnants (beds, alcohol, clothes) all over the elevators and trashcans that it felt kind of unsafe. However, when you get to the tracks with the other riders, it was much better. 4.) No Shade This station has like zero shade. You might find some minimal shade in places but it's virtually zero. Back then (1880's) Leland Stanford operated a free horse buggy that moved people from the train station to what was his Summer estate (now the vast university). By 1909 there were street cars that performed the task. In 1963 with a subsidy from the city of Palo Alto, the service transitioned to buses. Finally in 1973, Stanford began funding the service completely. The name "Marguerite" is taken from the first horse that pulled the wagon back in 1880. Today the service discoverer the vast University main complex. It also makes runs to the two Caltrain stations in Palo Alto, as well as a spur that heads over to Mountain View, a line to the East Bay, and to the SLAC complex. The Marguerite is free, and you can catch it at any of the stops dotted through the campus or along its routes. The buses can be quite crowded during events and commute times. The service is making a transition to all electric as well as hybrid buses, but they still rely on diesel ones as well. The buses are usually clean and well maintained and at least during the day the buses are pretty frequent. The transit.511 directions were incredibly confusing (and inaccurate) and the bus sign is fairly hidden from view by another sign but the driver was polite and helpful and I got where I needed to go on time. Be aware that the "Live" VTA they tout isn't actually updated yet for this shuttle. So beyond waiting at the stop, you will have no idea when the next shuttle might show. All in all it helped me out today, but if I had to use this daily I'd go crazy.

Ok so on a recent trip to San Jose with my mother and brother-to go see my beloved San Jose…read moreSharks,I was trying to figure out a more efficient way to way of getting to the stadium-for both cost efficiency and traffic chaos-I really dislike the traffic after an event be it a sporting event or a concert and with the love the San Jose Sharks have been getting lately,I knew traffic would be bad both pre and post game. So looking into the cost of parking near the stadium-i I was looking at upwards of $40 to park across the street from the SAP Center-that's outrageous to me-so I knew there had to be a better way. So what I decided to do was look into the Light Rail system in the area and I realized I could park at the Bascom Rail Station-which is part of the VTA system in the area. Once parked I could catch the light rail and go 2 or 3 stops, maybe 10 minutes and it would drop me off right in front of the SAP Center and I could just walk into the stadium. Here is the good stuff-parking at the light rail station was free and the fare for the train was like $2.50. After the event-it was so easy to just walk back to the station-catch a train back to Bascom and jump in my car and off I was back to Sacramento-easy peasy. The station felt very safe-especially on a game night, lots of people at the train station-so no issues there. In closing-I would definitely highly recommend this method of getting to and from events at the SAP Center-it's cheaper-it's less hectic and it's super efficient-Be Safe Out There. PS-This method works for events at Levi Stadium as well-VTA Light Rail for the win.....

Now as a grad student I no longer come here because I don't like crowded tram stations. Even with a pandemic, it didn't seem to stop the crowds. This station is very convenient for those who live in the Bascom and far Campbell area. For those who are going to Levi's stadium this station has plenty of parking nearby. They have their own lot as well as street parking. There is easy access to Valley Medical and the 61 bus. Whole foods is just down the street as well as the Campbell Creek trail nearby. Took a star off due to the unevenness I feel here but for the sports fan, this station really helps. Drawback: it can be a bit tough here because of the proximity to the hospital. There could be transients walking around here.
