Sausage, onion, and cheese omelette! My bestie and I had a little get away in Leakey, TX, on the Rio Frio and wandered into town for breakfast. We were greeted by friendly staff. Our waitress was a mature woman (My fav! My mom was a waitress my whole life) very friendly and down home. We split the sausage, onion and cheese omelette. It came with hashgbrowns and toast and we ordered a biscuit and gravy as a side. It was plenty of food. So for some reason this omelette had me hooked, to the point of recreating it when I came home LOL! It came with red mashed potatoes, Texas toast, and the perfect cream gravy... abs you could make your own salad at the salad bar. The sweet tea was hands down the best! Went late on a Wednesday night and I can say that we didn't have a single dish that wasn't delicious for anyone in our party. The chicken fried steak was hot and one of the best I've tried, the hamburger steak wrapped in bacon and served with brown gravy, and someone else got the chicken sandwich and couldn't finish it all... great food, great portions, great prices. Mill Creek Cafe consistently has fresh salad bar items and perfect baked potatoes. And the sweet potato fries are the best! Their o-rings are decadent. Watch out for the chips $4.80 seems overpriced- Salsa is pretty tasty but not hot. Wait staff is excellent every time we have been there. The dining room is a little noisy and during the summer can be crowded with vacationers, but overall a solid diner experience and well deserving of four stars. In town on vacation and stopped here. Super quaint small town feel. We came twice, tried the buffet once which had chicken tenders, steak tenders, meat loaf and sides with salad. The salad bar was big and had great items in it. Second time we came we both ordered cheese burgers which were amazing. Onions rings are made fresh which is a plus. The parking lot had was full of vehicles at 11:30am on Saturday... usually a good indication of what awaited inside. Upon entering the large spacious dining area you are immediately greeted with bright yellow walls with minimal decor. The establishment was full and therefore a bit loud. Waitress was friendly and smiled during the introduction and after placing the drink order she explained the salad bar and lunch buffet and left a menu for me to examine. The waitresses wore shirts depicting Leakey's latest census count, pretty cool for a small town. The lunch buffet looked really good. Today's selections included various meets - pot roast, sausage, brisket, shredded pork for making sandwiches, etc; sides included beans, corn on the cob, green bean casserole, roasted potatoes and a few others. I didn't want to overeat so passed on the buffet. Ordered a cheeseburger with fries and observed another table had a large plate of onion rings, so added them to my order as well. The iced tea arrived in a very large glass with lots of ice, perfect for satisfying a summer thirst. The burger was big, juicy and delicious and the toasted jalapeno bun well worth the extra dollar. The onion rings were some of the best I've ever had, consistent thickness, perfect amount of breading and golden brown. Highly recommended. The rings were so good I actually ate them first and ended up needing a to-go box for the remainder of the cheeseburger. The waitress also offered a to-go cup for my tea, which is a +1 in my book for great service. Upon leaving I grabbed a small pocket sized folded to-go menu from the register counter on my way out. The food we ordered was decent. My wife didn't like her chopped steak very much. I thought my tilapia, squash, and zucchini were okay. My biggest complaint with this place is the one trip salad that came with our meal was in a bowl slightly larger than a ramiken. I came in just wanting a one-trip salad which said $4 but I decided to get the fish which came with a one trip salad. I like a big salad. Every time I've ordered a salad bar it's been a plate or a large bowl. Any business is free to make their salad bowls as small as they want but you might want to mention to customers to expect the tiniest salad bowl they've ever seen so they know what they are getting at least. read more

We came here on a Saturday for lunch. It was fairly busy and we were seated right away. They had a delicious looking buffet and we would have ordered it, but our waitress told us it was going to be $12 for each of us. My children are 1 year and 2 years old-by no means would they even eat $5 worth. I asked again to make sure that there wasn't kids pricing and she said no, disappointing. I ended up ordering a taco, the meat was flavorless but the portion size was good and it came with chips and salsa. My husband ordered a hamburger and it looked delicious. Only place we could find open at 7:30 on a Sunday evening. Found a hair in the salad bar. I don't recommend the Mexican food, beans were from a can and the rice was hard. Tortillas were not homemade and you only get two, any extras come at a cost. Fried pickles were good and the hamburger steak was okay. The fajita steak and peppers and onions were seasoned nicely. I ordered the the deluxe Mexican plate. When I received it my enchiladas were burnt, and the rice was under cooked. My father ordered the buffet plate, and the food was cold. The only decent items were the BLT my mother ordered, and the cheese burger my friend ordered. But, the next day we decided to give it another try for breakfast. Really was looking forward to eating here. They have done the standard social distancing of tables, employees wearing gloves but the gal running the cash register, touch screen, handling money also serves the salad bar and delivers food out to the tables without ever breaking to use hand sanitizer. Her bare dirty hands are all over the plastic dishes and silverware. I politely asked if she might be aware of the cross contamination (hoping for my order, at least, she would use some hand sanitizer) and she responded curtly and walked away ignoring my request. Excellent, generous breakfasts for very reasonable prices. Big, fluffy pancakes, perfectly-cooked bacon and ham. My favorite local place to start the day. Tasty salsa. Good burgers and sandwiches with fries, baked potato or choice of sides. Best hours in town, clean tables and restrooms, and generous loyalty card program. Service is usually friendly and efficient, improved recently. You can can a good basic chef salad or salad with grilled chicken or basic Mexican plates. If you're looking for gourmet food, a wide variety, or a salad bar with a lot of fresh or exotic choices, your options are limited, but this is quite a small community, so keep your expectations within reason and you'll usually come away happy. read more

Very nice country cafe! They have full menu plus a lunch special everyday which comes with drink AND dessert for $10.95. We have come here twice now--once in the summer (tourist season) and now in the Fall. Great both times. We were hesitant to eat here due to the poor reviews. We have family that lives in leakey so we know the restaurants in town and drove in to eat at mama cholies. They were closed, so was everyone else except Millcreek. We were pleasantly surprised. We ordered Mexican plate, a deluxe Mexican late and a taco salad. A lot of food and it was all surprisingly good. I actually think the Mexican plate was better than mama cholies. Our waitress was extremely nice and efficient. My only complaint is I ate TOO MUCH! The only thing I really recommend getting here is the salad bar. The buffet is ok, nothing too special and if there is something tasty on there, it's gone and you have to wait forever for more to come out. If you're wanting to get a child's buffet for your kiddos they try to charge as much as the adult buffet which is not right! So, I ordered off of the kids menu a personal sized pizza. We went to this place to try something new while we were in Leakey. The place was not very busy, but it took a long time to get waited on. The service was also slow. The food was ok for the price. For the salad bar they have a choice of all you can eat, or a single trip only. I never heard of such a thing, but ok. I ordered the "all you can eat." While going to the salad bar for the second time, an older lady who worked there was very rude to me, asking in a nasty tone, "did you pay for the all you can eat?" This would not have been so bad, but there were other people in line at the salad bar and they all heard what she said and I was embarrassed. read more

We've eaten here for years... but tonight was the last time I will visit this establishment. Upon entering it was apparent that they were understaffed. Tables sat dirty and uncleared, the floor was filthy, and what patrons that were present sat with empty glasses or with menus on the table. We waited patiently for a server to take our drink order... while doing so I saw people enter, seat themselves, wait for a server, and then get up and leave. I saw patrons clean their own tables and get up and search for menus. 30 minutes later I received my iced tea... but still didn't have my food order taken. Went on a Sunday evening at 5:30 after an afternoon on the river. The salad bar looked pretty good so we ordered the buffet. Everything but the salad tasted old and tired - like it had been sitting there since lunch. The Dinner buffet didn't include rolls or dessert, but there was a warming drawer with leftover roll bits and crumbs from lunch. The gravy was the only thing that was really hot. The server was pleasant, but didn't offer an apology when I told her that the food on the buffet was not very good. Leakey doesn't have many dining options on Sunday nights, and this was not a good one at $12+ each. IF I ever return, I will order off the menu. read more

We went in for breakfast. It's a large place with very reasonable prices. The breakfast buffet wasn't all that appealing, but at $8 for all-you-care-to-eat, it was likely a bargain!
