Full slab rib plate - juicy tender ribs with really sensational seasoning and light sauce. Love the house bbq sauce our order came with. Basket of cornbread - really dense cornbread which is unusual but I like the taste and texture. THREE meats - pulled pork melts like butter in your mouth so moist. 1/4 BBQ chicken leg - nicely done Smoked sausage - a nice option. Handcut fries - I wouldn't say I'm a fan, these were too mushy for me. Large potato salad - yes go for this all the way! It was a really nice side. Lots of onions though so if you don't like that well too bad. TWO meats - Beef Brisket - falling apart so delicate and good 1/4 BBQ chicken breast - again nicely done Large Mac n Cheese - a little spice hit I enjoyed but the kids didn't like it. Orders online and it was done right on time for pickup. Noticed a few seats inside. Dark interior vibes.

Slightly embarrassed to say I missed the inaugural festival in 2015. Not this year. I marked the 2016 festival in my calendar early. I checked it out on the slow day, Friday, but you can tell from the flotilla tables that they are expecting huge crowds for the next two days. I went last year's favorite, The Silver Bullet. The festival had only been open a few hours by the time I got there and the line ups were already to grow. Judging by the size of the line up Silver Bullet was going to be popular too this year. There were two die hard rib fans behind me in the line. I chatted with them while I was getting tantalized by the eye candy of all that delicious looking meat on the grill. They had gone to the festival in 2015 and had come prepared this year. Both brought coolers (see photos) to take ribs home with them! One of the fans was getting ribs from each of the booths! I got the half rack and a side of cornbread. I couldn't wait to dig into the ribs. They were easily the most meaty, moist and flavourful ribs I ever had. The sauce was the right balance of sweet and tangy. Buttery and slightly crumbly even the conrbread was worth coming downtown for. Halifax needs more food festivals like this!

Love the arrangement of tables/chairs - pretty posh! There are heat lamps for those chilly nights ... also, the staff will ask if you need blankets when it gets cold. What a nice touch. Oh yeah, service is great! One of the things that stands out is the $5 tap beers (20 oz), but there are not many to choose from. The disappointing thing about The Rooftop is the food quality for the price you are paying. I had the double cheeseburger and it was not good; could tell it was frozen. They served the burger with store bought kettle chips and the cutlery were all plastic/cardboard. Didn't like that especially for the price. I would come back for a few quick tap beers, but not for anything more.

Shocking price tag for nothing in particular. The taps list was completely disappointing when we visited, and everyone around us seemed to be drinking local/regional beers out of cans rather than the boring and small list of beer you could get on tap. I tried the fish tacos and they were decent but nothing overly special in a town where you can get a lot of good fish tacos. We complained about the burger and were offered something else; we had somewhere we needed to get to so couldn't stay but were offered food at the Stubborn Goat another time. Service was slow and when we wanted to flag down a server it seemed like they all had their heads down to ignore everyone around them. I really don't imagine we'll be back to the Rooftop.

They've taken over the alley/entrance of what had been Fujiyama and La Cave during my previous life in Halifax. The menu is small but draws from a few different influences - southern US barbecue, Tex-Mex, and Chinese - with the namesake through line of pork. I had come in thinking that I'd be getting some BBQ, but the Chinese elements of the menu were too tempting, and I went for the bao combo with fries and siu mai. Since I was dining-in and it was a cool evening, they were so nice and actually let me come around the counter to the seating area in a side room. At the time, it was still painted with Fujiyama's murals and a vibrant yellow, but it made for a quiet spot to wait for, and eat, my food in. The headline part of the meal, the bao, was more fusion than traditional, but I dug it. The pulled pork came with my choice of one of several sauces, and I liked how the sweetness complimented the meat. Some fresh cucumber, cabbage and carrot added some crunchy contrast. The bao bun was light and fluffy and held everything together well. Tucked in between the bao and fries, my three siu mai disappeared *very* quickly. Super juicy and tender, they were fantastic on their own, but the side of chili crisp took them to the next level. The fries were the crispy-coated type, and were an easy win. At only around $11 plus tax and tip, this felt like a crazy good bang for your buck! A return visit had me trying what I originally came for - the pork ribs. The combo comes with corn-on-the-cob and some rice, with that Asian influence sneaking in here as well. While I was waiting for my food, and it wasn't even long, I was kindly brought a couple dumplings to have while I waited. These guys rock! The ribs had a nice bit of char, and a light glaze on the exterior, but weren't too heavily seasoned or sauced. I don't think they were smoked, but they were wonderfully tender and juicy, and I liked that the pork stood on its own, rather than under a sugary slathering. I appreciated that the corn had a little bit of char from the grill as well, and while plain rice is a bit underwhelming as a side, I mixed in shredded bits of pork to amp it up. Johny's may not be what you expect, but it's all for the best as their service and especially their Asian offerings are top notch and more than worthy of your hard-earned dollars.
