a dining area with tables and chairs

I came here for breakfast on a cold, sunny Saturday morning around 8:30am. I was the first customer of the morning, and only two other tables were taken after I left about an hour later. Standard, simple hotel restaurant atmosphere. I tried the Eggs Benny ($16) which was good, also pretty standard, with a bowl of seasoned, hot home fries, few pieces of fruit. The coffee is a full pot, which I can never finish, but good for those who do. Friendly enough service. Nothing blew me away, but no complaints and I'd like to try here again for dinner actually, based on photos and reviews I see from others online.

It's better than the Keg- yes I said it! The cut is great/ portion great/ price great - I just wish it was more consistent as sometimes it comes(during delivery order), with spice and sometimes it don't but I love the spice lol And the fettuccine Alfredo is amazing dine in or not! I order it just as is with the peppers and it's great! Plus a side Caesar salad and garlic bread you can't go wrong with the price! Btw their fish is also excellent!! Only problem is they sometimes when I order the coconut cream pie- which I adore- it can come very hard top or not- sometimes it seems days prepared or day off- keep an eye on that staff please where people are paying! But we still love ya!

He did say it is not a fancy place, more like a diner style, which was completely fine by me! The service was pretty prompt, efficient and friendly. My husband ordered some fish dish which he enjoyed. I ordered lobster roll which I thought was okay. I did like the toasted rolls, but felt the lobster lacked flavour. What I did love was the fried calamari! It was both crispy and moist and just loved it. I tried the Nova Scotia wine, Lightfoot & Wolfville Flora and really enjoyed it!

It's a moderately-sized space, certainly smaller than many of its Freehand Hospitality peers at Queens Marque, but the closer, almost communal seating allows for a good number of people to dine here. The decor is quite reserved, with the ceiling actually being the show piece, as the layers of boards giving a scaled effect and a gradient of charring lending a really cool (hot?) look to the space. The menu is comprised of fancied-up twists on familiar cuisines from across East Asia, with dishes giving nods or deeply tied to countries like Korea, Philippines, Vietnam, and China to just name a few. Some of their smaller dishes were catching my eye, so I ordered the chicken and black garlic dumplings, and the mango salad, while my wife got the pho with spent hen broth. Ever since I first tried one, I've been a big fan of mango salads. The mix of flavours, colours and textures is top tier, and all in one, easily-chopsticked salad! Tori Dori's doesn't stray far from the template, with julienned mango, carrot and red onion that got a mix of heat, freshness, and savoury sweetness from chilis, mint, cilantro and a tamarind sauce. Anything with black garlic in it is bound to get me to order it, and while that unique preparation of garlic didn't feature as prominently on my taste buds as I would have liked, it did lend to a more savoury depth than chicken dumplings usually have. The tender and pleasantly toothsome wrappers held up well to their soy and vinegar dressing. The pho had a slightly more subtle broth than the beef ones that tend to be more common, but it was just as aromatic and satisfying as a good pho should be. Tender slices of chicken breast accompanied the typical pho accoutrements. The understated Tori Dori avoids the Instagram-bait vibe of some of its siblings, and delivers flavourful East Asian dishes with splashes of contemporary flair.

The chicken pho was excellent: flavorful, comforting, and exactly what I needed. I asked for extra red chilies and soon found myself sweating, tearing up, and convinced that all this spice was curing my itchy throat. I was the only one in the restaurant at the time, so I hope nobody caught me blowing my nose and sweating it out at my little table--but honestly, I was in the zone, healing myself with every bite. Service was very attentive, and the staff were genuinely kind. The space itself is beautiful, modern, and welcoming. I'd absolutely recommend this spot if you're looking for great Asian food along the waterfront.

For our first of two breakfasts, we went down to the restaurant itself. We'd been for brunch once before a few years ago, and it's still as subtly elegant as ever, with the warm, light-toned wooden ceiling and accents, mid-century modern furniture and airy views of the Queen's Marque courtyard. I was eyeing up both their version of the Monte Cristo and the banger and hash, and decided to split them up over our two visits. Drift being Drift, this wasn't your standard Monte Cristo, loaded up as it was with quality ingredients like house-smoked turkey, confit pork belly, local gouda and brown bread French toast. The meats were wonderfully tender and flavourful, and the melted gouda brought its lightly salty sharpness. I was impressed by the thick, brown bread as it held up extremely well to the French toast treatment, and its notes of molasses doubled down on the sweetness of the maple syrup drizzle and dusting of confectioner's sugar. All told, it was a delicious mix of sweet and savoury. The sandwich also came with some cursory fresh fruit, a roasted tomato, and some criminally under-billed potatoes. Denoted simply as "grilled potatoes", I was just expecting some chunky home fries, but it was much fancier than that, more along the lines of a potato pavé, with delicately laminated layers of potato in a crisp rectangle of potato-y goodness. For our second breakfast (from Drift, the following day, not the hobbit-style second breakfast), we splurged a little more to get room service and make our check-out process a little easier. With just a half hour lead time, we had a rolling table brought to our room and unfurled in front of our window which overlooked the boardwalk and harbour. The banger and hash was a delicious mash-up of British and Nova Scotian food. The aforementioned grilled potatoes took the place of the "mash", while two, house-made sausages filled the other titular roll. The sausages had crisp casings, and the juicy interiors which had a pleasant , rustic grain to them. As much as I love a basic breakfast sausage, these were definitely next level! The dish didn't stop there though, as it had two, perfectly poached eggs, a hefty dollop of sweet and savoury baked beans, and for that Nova Scotian component, some green tomato chow to help cut through a very rich breakfast. We were also given two complimentary canelés, topped with groundcherries. Kudos to Drift's baker, as this was probably the best canelé I've ever had. The exterior was darkly caramelized without a hint of burnt taste, and was impossibly moist and airy on the interior. While this was a working staycation, our breakfasts at Drift were a wonderful component of a couple days spent (occasionally) relaxing and enjoying some of the treats that our city has to offer.
