Beautiful local spot for a nice outdoor walk! We had passed by here and there by car in the past,…read moreand then learned on Google Maps recently that you can park and walk there. One afternoon, we had planned to take a walk on the Forbidden Drive, but found that it was very crowded, so we decided to check this out instead - and we're glad we did! There isn't much parking at the house, so part of me hopes it stays fairly hidden. From the house, though, it's a short walk to the preserve, complete with boardwalks and a paved walkway. We had brought the hiking pack to hold the baby on the Forbidden Drive, but this path is very stroller-friendly, so we may do that next time. At the end of the paved path, there's a grassy trail that you can continue on, and we saw people walking back from it, but we didn't check it out this time. We'll try to come back in the future for another look, though!

Wow what a find this preserve was! Another trail looked insanely packed so we looked around on…read moreGoogle maps for an alternative and decided to check this out. This preserve is across from the Erdenheim farm, which at the time of this review had a gorgeous field of flowers in bloom. The preserve is made up of a boardwalk type area/paved trail, with an offshoot around a field (grass) but to a dead end (so you double back). You can hear many birds calling around the boardwalk. On the grass trail, you can get a beautiful view of the tree line, grazing cows, and the meadow. It's lovely in the fall to see the trees just starting to change colors. Zero shade so bring a hat, sunscreen, or sunglasses if it's sunny. No amenities other than a gravel parking lot. It doesn't take long to walk through but if you go at a leisurely pace, you can make an hour of it.

This playground was recommended by my son's chiro's office. Just as a place to go, nothing chiro…read morespecial about it. There is a lot of large equipment, but not a whole lot of variety or imagination in the different interactive functions. Reeves Park's playground (Phoenixville), Smith Memorial Playground (Fairmount Park), Freedom Playground (Haverford), and Aston Twp's new playground all have really imaginitive stuff, and just as large of an expanse (if not larger). I also have to give props to the Reeves Park and Freedom playgrounds for being fenced in (Smith is, but it's so big, the fence is not as containing as it could be). Kids Dream is not fenced, unfortunately, because it is a layer of safety I always appreciate, for young kids who run, and also just to keep out wandering dogs (the ones on a long leash whose caretakers aren't paying attention) or to dissuade sketchy people from hanging around (sorry but they're everywhere). There is a nearby walking trail, and it's also adjacent to township offices (shared parking lot). I do have to comment that there was a bit of litter generally around, which is never okay for a kids' playground. Also, this playground is pretty crowded. Parents seemed adequately considerate, but honestly, all the abovementioned playgrounds had a better vibe to me. Maybe because this place was built up by my recommendation and the reviews, but it wasn't as great as my expectations (and comparative experiences).

Fantastic playground!! Huge plenty of options of what to play on. Love it! Will be back for sure…read more Not far from the shopping areas. Conveniently located.

X-posting a review from the Wissahickon Park page. This park is so good it deserves two 5-star…read moreratings. Hard to rate an entire park this massive, but all things considered, after 5 years of traversing the trails here, this is an awesome park. Note that I live in U-City, so the fact that such a massive trail system exists in only a ~20 minute drive, depending on which part of the park I start in, is a blessing and keeps my sanity. Friends of Wissahickon does a great job maintaining trails and even expanding the system over the past few years. I don't think I've ever observed an unseemly part of the park. Definitely unseemly times of year like the snow thaw or the time between the trees dying and the snow falling, but otherwise, this park is beautiful all times of year. I've never had a hard time parking, never even had trouble with crowds even around the most popular trails (ex. Forbidden Drive). Even the bikers are friendly and patient here! Would strongly recommend not only visiting but coming back to keep exploring! I'm still finding new gems in this massive trail system.

Today I decided to switch things up and take a trip to Valley Green in Wissahickon Park, Philly…read more I've always heard about Devil's Pool but had never been, so when I saw the trailhead, I figured--why not check it out? What I've known about Devil's Pool is that it's been a popular hangout spot, especially for teens and young adults--swimming, drinking, smoking, etc. But I wasn't prepared for how disappointing the trail would be. At nearly every turn, there was trash--plastic bottles, wrappers, and even entire black garbage bags just left behind. The closer I got to Devil's Pool, the worse it got. There are clear signs asking visitors to take their trash with them, yet so many clearly don't. It's really disheartening to see such a beautiful natural space disrespected like that. Instead of feeling peaceful or connected to nature, it honestly felt a bit unsanitary and neglected. Wissahickon Park deserves better. If you visit, please respect the space and take out everything you bring in.
