Most of our group ordered no spice for our meals. However, the drunken noodles, green curry, and pineapple curry were already a little spicy at baseline, even ordered at "no spice." The server did warn us so we knew ahead of time! But as someone who is embarrassingly bad with spice, I'd say those dishes were spicy for me. Just something to know! Unfortunately, we've struck out a few times. We tried a couple of more upscale Thai restaurants that put their own twists on traditional dishes, but they just weren't scratching the itch we were looking for. Tommy's Thai was exactly what we had been hoping to find. The menu has all the classic Thai dishes you'd expect, and, more importantly, they're done right. It feels like a local, family-oriented restaurant that focuses on serving good, straightforward Thai food. We started with the edamame and an egg roll. The edamame was good, although my only real piece of feedback would be that I wish it had been saltier. The egg roll was great; classic egg roll vibes and a nice way to start the meal. I also really liked that you can order just one egg roll rather than having to commit to a larger order. For my entrée, I was torn between several options, so I asked our waiter for a recommendation. He suggested the Pad Phet which consists of stir-fried hot jalapeño peppers and onions, white rice, and your choice of meat (I went with chicken). It was delicious and was exactly the kind of classic Thai dish I was looking for, and the portion was generous enough that I left feeling full without being overly stuffed. Overall, this was a great classic Thai experience. Nothing overly complicated or reinvented just flavorful, satisfying Thai food in a welcoming, casual setting. We'll definitely be back whenever we're craving Thai, and there are several other dishes on the menu that I'm already looking forward to trying. One parking tip: with the construction currently happening along Colfax, parking can be a little tricky to spot. There's actually a small parking lot between Tommy's Thai and the pizza place next door, but you have to enter through an alley. There were probably around 10 parking spots, and it was pretty open when we went. It's easy to miss if you don't know it's there, but once you find it, parking is easy. The pad Thai lacked the tamarind tartness and sweetness while the pad see ew tasted like soy sauce with some sweetness. The lacked the smokiness you get from a fiery wok. I hate giving low reviews, but it's hard to compare this spot to other authentic Thai spots in the city. Portions need to be improved, $18 dollars for a small bowl is not the route to go.
