I came here from Nashville as Alabama was the only state I'd never visited. Being a So Cal resident I could not believe how good the food was and how cheap it was for one person - 10 bucks. Fried chicken to die for - cinnamon buns were so good - mac + cheese also super delicious. Granny was great too and let me take a picture with her! The place was packed but everyone so friendly!

What a gem! Felt like I walked back into my mom's house. Open seating and everyone was so polite. Loved the covered porch and the huge rocking chairs. Place was delightful. It's a buffet and it's incredible. Started with salad bar and then moved onto all the comfort food of home. Started with fried chicken, catfish and fried okra. The mash potatoes and gravy reminded me of my childhood. To finish off lunch we had peach cobbler with soft serve ice cream. The price of this amazing meal was only $9.45. Definitely worth a drive. Great job!

I met a good friend for lunch Wednesday at Mildred's in Ardmore. There's so much traffic in Huntsville that the 30-35 minutes drive was 75 minutes. When I pulled up to the restaurant, I was shocked at how crowded the parking lot was at 1:15. We went inside and there were no tables vacant. We stood 10 minutes waiting and I found two seats on a bench that we put my friend's older brother and his wife to sit for another 20 minutes. The hot bar was clean and well stocked. The salad bar looked like a tornado went thru. We all got foods from the hot bar. The chicken and dumplings and black eyed peas were phenomenal! I couldn't believe how good both tasted. Dessert was chocolate cream pie, honey buns, cake and ice cream. I found out the reasons it was so crowded. Wednesday is senior day and the buffet is $1 off for age 65 and up. Our waitress said chicken and dumplings brings a big crowd. I will attest to that statement! The foods are country cooking made by your grandmother. Many of the vegetables are "seasoned" so vegetarians beware. Foods like the fried green tomatoes, fried okra and fried squash are not "seasoned". The salad bar has vegetarian options. If you enjoy country cooking, please stop by and check out Mildred's. Their foods are delicious!!' Health rating July 10, 2024 was 95.

Food was all you can eat! The chicken was so damn good and the Mac n cheese. The shrimp and chicken casserole was delicious too. Wait staff was great and kept our drinks full! The place its self was very welcoming and clean! Definitely would recommend

We stopped by this restaurant after doing some apple picking at Scott's Orchards. This is a buffet type meat and 3 place. It was crowded which I took to mean that the food was good. And I was right. I ate mostly veggies since I'm not a fan of a lot of meats that come on buffets. The Mac and cheese was delicious...not like grandma's but good. The okra, black eyed peas, mashed potatoes and green beans were seasoned just right. A little disappointed with the dessert choices but I took that to mean I didn't need it. I plan to make apple picking a yearly adventure so I'll definitely eat here again. Next time I'll take pictures.

This is by far one of my favorites in Ardmore. Good ol country cooking with a cabin feel. Love to sit out on the porch as well.

Great customer service and I greatly appreciate their accountability/ willingness to make up for our previous visit. Last night we started with the crab croquettes, STELLAR. Absolutely loved and devoured these. The crunch on the croquette was to die for, topped with a refreshing crab salad, perfect. For my entree, I had the lamb rack with house potatoes & broccolini. My boyfriend had the blackened catfish with the grits. Both dishes were phenomenal . To finish up we tried their new chocolate strawberry bread pudding, so rich and delicious. This restaurant is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Northern Alabama. Go give them a try! We'll 100% be back.

I suppose that's true If you're hunting…read morelodge looks like an early 20th century brick building with a few deer heads grouped in one spot on the wall and a small black bear above the door. This seemed to want to be a foodie destination. The half fried chicken included a small drumstick, small wing, piece of breast, and another piece that was unidentifiable but might have been a thigh. It had a spicy sweet sauce covering, which we opted to have on the side. That was a good choice because the hint of Cayenne was still too much for one diner. We asked about the slaw -- whether it was had a cream or vinegar dressing. The server described it as a "creamy vinegar." It made no difference because the dressing was so understated that the side tasted more like chopped cabbage than anything else. Disappointing. Finally, I asked the server whether the grilled green beans were actually that. I was more curious than anything else because grilled green beans would be would take longer to cook. She said yes, they were grilled. I don't think so. They came out fairly quickly and were pretty universally blackened on one side. Once our food was delivered, we never saw our server again until I asked her for the check. So, what I believe was intended to be an elevated dining experience was simply under executed.

This was my 3rd time at Granny Fishes. I always look forward to eating here when I'm in town…read morevisiting family. But something is changing and not for the better. Don't get me wrong, it's still down home fried catfish. And they have some of the best hush puppies you can find. But the quality of the fish, the declining service, and the uneven cooking is concerning. First off, you will have to wait to be seated. That is a given no matter what time you go. They are simply that popular. I expect that and have no problem with waiting. But don't seat my party and make us wait another 10-15 minutes to be acknowledged by the server. There is clearly not enough staff to handle the tables they have. I'd rather sit out front talking with friends and family than be sitting at a table being ignored. Once our server came and took our food and drink orders (she was really nice but obviously overwhelmed), she came back with all of the beverages but one iced tea. When we flagged her down, she apologized and said she'd be right back with it. She didn't return until our food was served. She apologized again about the missing tea and finally got it. The hush puppies were outstanding as always. But the fried catfish had an off taste. And she forgot one of the side dishes on three of our plates. I'm not sure if that was her fault or the kitchen but that doesn't make it right. My baked potato was not cooked through (yes, I had the baked potato instead of the standard fries, an odd choice I admit). The white beans were tasty but on the verge of mush, nothing like the saucy beans I'd had here previously. And our drinks sat empty for long periods of time before anyone noticed. This place is a hidden gem, out in the middle of nowhere, and people drive quite a distance to come here. It's a shame that the food and service seem to be declining because I always enjoy coming here....until this trip.

Arrived around…read more11:30 when few people were there so we don't understand why it was necessary to seat us in the back of the place in the "sauna room". It had to be at least 75 degrees if not 80 in there and we passed many many empty tables and booths. (Hostess promised to turn air on. Did not. They did turn on air finally after 10-15 minutes, and many other complaints, and moved us when we asked.) Ordered 2 teas with lemon - rec'd no lemon (till asked again) and very little ice. Husband's glass left empty 5-10 minutes. Next, I was disappointed to be told I couldn't have the vegetarian Rueben sandwich (on the online menu but not on in-house restaurant menu tho it contains simple, in-house ingredients. Waiter just said no and didn't check with kitchen.) Husband ordered bone-in rib-eye steak - tasted charred on outside tho it was cooked correctly at medium on inside. Seasoning on it didn't cover up the char taste. I settled for a chicken salad (lettuce with pecans and grilled chicken pieces with honey mustard dressing) but the chicken wasn't tender, tasty or fresh tasting. Lastly, the whole place was disgusting with sticky tables, floors, etc. and restroom was so bad, husband nearly slipped. (Noticed they have a 91 health score - incredible. Did they pay them off?)
