Nice little international airport in Milan, Italy. Instead of flying out of MXP which is further away, decided to fly out of LIN. Pretty easy to navigate through the airport. Security at 5:30 am on a Sunday morning was fast, just one person in front of me. Checking in my luggage was quick, and I was able to get on an earlier flight to Rome instead of the 8 am flight, was asked if I wanted to take the 6:30 am. Plenty of open shops and breakfast options. Nice to know if the men's restroom is full before walking in. Just wish the smoking area was much further away from the entrance to the airport.

You can leave liquids and electronics safe and snug in your luggage!

If you need to travel internationally out of Milan, Linate is great. A lot of the facilities are clean and new (like the bathroom for example), it's relatively small and easy to navigate, and of course easy to get to from the city. My favorite part about leaving Italy is the fact that security is so efficient and not cumbersome at all. We can leave liquids and electronics in our bags without issue?? Leaving Italy is certainly easier than living in Italy!

Excellent airport right near the city of Milan. Choose this airport over Malpensa. It's closer so taxi fares are less. Much smaller and ease of use for passengers.

Small airport with easy access to shuttle and taxis outside. The baggage claim was easy to find. Bathrooms were clean and decent. I had no issue at this airport. Local small airports are the better option when flying within the EU.

It's an international airport and Alitalia's second largest hub, Linate is soon to be very convenient for accessing Milan as they complete the train connection in the next while. It's definitely closer than Malpensa that is a full hour away from downtown. Free wifi, rental cars and buses, quick access. I liked this airport. Points off for not yet having the rail connection and the hard stand deplaning. [Review 10663 overall, 431 of 2019.]

Relatively old airport. Getting my bag at the luggage carrousel was simple but walking out the security pulled me aside and asked me how much cash I had and how long I was going to be there. Why is that necessary when we all went through passport control already?!--not a very welcoming experience. The hotel shuttle to pick me up was at the departure level and what a hassle trying to find a way to go up to that level! Hardly and elevators and I didn't see any escalators. There's a few small shops on the airport and a McD's on the departure level.

Welll!!! It's not bad! It's a ok. It's quite small. Depending on the terminal, it's quite small. I flew into terminal 1, which has so many amazing food options. Flew out of terminal 2, which doesn't have much. After going through the security and all that, you have a few shops. I flew to Dublin from here last month. Technically, it's to a different county. But it's Europe. The Burberry store outside was small and sweet. Got my super fast bag to go from here before getting into my gate: which has another passport control check point! My only complaint is: there should be a sign! Once you go through this many gates, there's no return. Perche? Ti no paichi cafe! There's a tiny cafe inside for 3-4 gates. Tiny! Limited food! Usual Italian train stations/ airport food: but much smaller. The caprese wraps were delish though. But unlike the other airport coffee shops, you can't stand and drink your espresso. No room! I stood in line, got espresso.. drank back in like for another! Overall, it's but and it's small! Not bad! Depends on the terminal!

In dire need of a face lift. Check in area was so dark and old looking. We wished we had flew out of MXP airport instead.

Note, if…read moreyou are purchasing the train ticket to go to Terminal 2 and not 1, the train still stops at Terminal 1. We made the mistake of getting off one stop early at Terminal 1 and had to wait 15-20 min for the free shuttle to take us to Terminal 2 for our Easyjet flight. When the shuttle arrived at Terminal 2, we figured the entrance for departures was where the shuttle stopped in front of... it had stopped in front of the train station area. We went outside and turned right to get to the departures entrance. Staff was not very helpful nor were the signs. Cannot rely on anything or anyone to help direct you in this terminal. As usual, with European airports, once you go through TSA, you are forced to walk through their Duty-free maze in order to get to your gate.

She complained as soon as she saw us, in Italian thinking we wouldn't understand saying "oh for f*** sake, 4 people at one time, useless". The security did nothing to help the situation but put their hands in our face to stop us talking. They kept telling my mentally ill sister to "calma" whilst she was crying hysterically and screaming out of fear and anxiety and threatened to not let us get on the plane. The Albanian lady kept trying to agravate the situation, when we asked her to stop talking so that she wouldn't make the situation worse she would come closer and shout out loud which made my sister worse. She kept looking for attention from her own colleagues & all (excdpt for Stefano, the Italian chubby girl with curly and 1 lady police officer) stood there rolling their eyes at us. Inhumane service, disgusting that they are meant to make everyone feel safe, but instead they make helpless people, with anxiety, autism, depression, epilepsy disorders feel worse. The lady needs to be sanctioned for what she did and needs to apologise for the stress she has caused my family. Even my 13 year old sister was standing there crying because of the situation and the "security" were rudely and arrogantly telling her to "calma". They do not care about their customers. The Albanian lady needs to be fired. I have tried to contact customer services so many times and they have ignored me. Horrible horrible service

Today was my first (and probably last time, at least for a while) time flying through Lugano's tiny…read moreairport. I imagine that more of the service is geared towards private flying (particularly based on the number of private jets I saw vs. the 4 daily scheduled flights, all to Zurich), but as such, it makes transiting through here a cinch. We were heading out on the first flight (a 7:30 AM departure), but even arriving ~70 minutes prior to departure was frankly too early. There's a small parking lot to the right where we dropped off our rental car (followed by subsequently dropping off the keys in a keybox), and inside the terminal, pre-security, is a ticket area on the right, which is easy to mistake for the check-in area (which is further in to the left). Since only SWISS flies here, you have 2 lines - one for business, one for economy. It took us less than 5 minutes to get checked in all the way back to the U.S., as well as having our bags checked all the way as well. Security screening is quick and easy - just make sure to take out liquids and laptops/tablets - and then there is a small seating area that has a small duty-free shop and a cafe. There's (literally) nothing else post-security (I'm not even sure that bathrooms are available airside), hence the advice for not showing up that early. When you board, you simply walk out onto the tarmac and up on the plane. If you're lucky to have a southbound takeoff, you will circle around and back north, affording you beautiful views of the area around Lugano, as well as views of the Swiss Alps further west, if the weather cooperates. I imagine that Lugano often gets overlooked because it isn't all that far away from a much larger airport (Milan's Malpensa airport) - but I intentionally picked it because I figured that it would be much less of a hassle to start our trip back to the U.S., even if it meant an extra stop via Zurich (which I like as an airport anyways) - and it worked out just as I thought. The only risk is that, given the dearth of flights, you could be in a little trouble making onwards connections if there are any scheduling issues. That said, our experience worked like a charm. If you are either visiting Lugano or the surrounding area - or are traveling elsewhere and can fly direct to your destination via Zurich - I would definitely recommend looking into LUG as a convenient, low-stress point to begin or end your journey.
