So thankful for the Malpensa Express and that the station is basically connected to the Sheraton at T1 Malpensa Airport. It makes for a super convenient and economic way to get from the airport or the Sheraton if you are staying there, to Milan! This review is if you're trying to get to Milan from T1 or the Sheraton. Make sure to purchase your ticket to get off at the Cadorna stop. Tickets are 13 euros each way. Make sure to have your ticket handy, as they have train staff come through to scan tickets. There have been times where they don't come by, but always make sure to have your tickets. You can purchase your tickets inside the terminal and then take the escaltor down to the track. It's super easy. Malpensa Express to Cardona takes about 45ish minutes. It is not non-stop, there are some stops along the way. read more

Malpensa Express is a convenient, public transport from Downtown Milan to Malpensa airport and vice versa. When living in the Centro Storico section of Milan we used this service often and boarded at the Cadorna train station. Have your ticket ready to scan for access to the platform and to show the train conductor. See the departures board at the station for track assignment. In our experience, Malpensa Express has a dedicated track at each station so if you use it often, you know where it will be. When purchasing tickets specify if you want to arrive at the Malpensa T1 or T2 station. One terminal is for flights within Schengen, the other is for destinations that require boarder crossing. Your flight confirmation should specify which terminal you are leaving from. Malpensa Express trains are 'direct'. When traveling from Cadorna to T1 the trip takes just over half an hour and costs one way thirteen euro. A direct train to T2 takes 3/4 of an hour for the same price. Other direct trains depart from Centrale station and Garibaldi station. All are the same price. Be sure you are using the Malpensa Express website to book these 'door to door' trains online. Each trip is under an hour in duration and conveniently arrive right below the airport. The trains offer overhead luggage racks for small bags, some storage is located behind/between seats and many cars have luggage racks by the door. All carriages are 1st class, the seats are comfortable and as there are no stops, there is no worries about missing your stop. Malpensa is the 'end of the line' or when leaving from the airport, your station of choice is the 'end of the line'. Several stations in Milan offer this direct Express service but not all of them. In these cases, you will need to book a separate train to reach your final destination or use the Metro. For a train, you may want to try the Trenitalia.com website for an English version of the Italian train service. Metro information is at milanpublictransport.com/metro-milan/ When you purchase your ticket from one of the many ticket machines at the station, be sure to 'punch' the ticket at one of the small green boxes on the platform to validate the ticket. If you purchase the ticket online bring a printout or have a screenshot ready for the conductor. You can purchase your ticket from the ticket agent at the airport station upon arrival. Follow the signs for Malpensa Express down to the lower level. A ticket counter is located at the top of the escalators and ticket machines are off to one side. The agents are not known for being chatty in English. All you need to know is how many biglietti you need ('bee-eht-tee') and what station you are trying to reach: Centrale, Garibaldi, etc. The ticket machines offer a number of language options - just touch the British flag icon for English. read more

Held a reservation from MIlano Centrale to MXP. Proceeded to customer service to inquire about our train. Spoke to the agent and she advised we can take any train that afternoon within a 4 hour window. We visited sites in Milan for 2 hours and when we returned there were no trains on the board. We returned to customer service and spoke to the same individual and she said that trains for the rest of the day were suspended for scheduled service. The fact that she didn't mention this initially was beyond infuriating. To top it off we had to arrange alternate transportation to the airport and when we requested a refund TreNord required us to transmit personal financial information via insecure email versus simply refunding our credit card purchase. I cannot recommend them for anyone who needs to rely on the service. read more

In this case, think of Malpensa Express as an oxymoron, as it takes an hour and had many, many stops before finally arriving at the airport. Trenord is a regional passenger train in Lombardy. The "Express" really means that they have service every half hour, and that the train terminates at the airport. There are several positives with this service: * They have a ticket office in Milano Centrale, where you can purchase tickets and speak with an English speaking representative. * The train terminates at the airport (next to last stop is terminal 1, and the last stop is terminal 2). * Our train was clean, and the seats were certainly adequate. Don't have to fight the Milan traffic to get to the airport. * It's hard to get lost if you're going to the airport, as the train terminates at the airport. And there are negatives: * It's not an express, there are many stops. * It was crowded and the climate control wasn't great. * There was no train map visible, or method to determine progress. * It was difficult to see the names of stations, even once the train stopped. * THEY DON'T SHOW OR ANNOUNCE THE STOPS! The last point is the big drawback. Passengers who are non-indigenous to the area have no idea where they are. At one point, about 40 minutes into the trip, a passenger next to me asked, "does this train go to the airport?". She probably heard me conversing in English, and wanted some type of validation that she was on the correct train! And she was, but couldn't determine that because of the last bullet on the above list! read more

For an "express" train, this morning's ride sure stopped in enough places. This could be a 30 minute ride but ended up at closer to 60 minutes from Centrale to Malpensa. That said, it's the best way to get from the airport to downtown Milan. Easy to purchase a ticket from the machine in the station and there was enough room for seating and for baggage on board. Frequent enough announcements of the next station and a visual board indicating the progress. I think that €13 for the one-way ride was very reasonable. Our first impression as we walked through a beautiful art exhibit was wow. But the over all the experience was unique. After the pleasant welcome our visit to the airport was summed up in this phrase: walk and wait. We had to walk to a distant check in point, wait in line till they opened our check in point, walk to the checking point wait in line to check in to get our boarding passes. Then walk to another line And wait in tsa security. Don't spend too much time as you walk through the beautiful shops and duty free area because you have another long line called passport control before you enter the gates for departure. At our gate, there was the usual checking of the passport and boarding pass as we entered the walkway to board the plane and yet another passport check in the walkway. You definitely felt like they made sure you were who you said you were and you were on the right plane. A lot of walking and waiting. read more

There is nothing Express about this train. It did begin at Milano Central and end at Malpensa Airport but it took nearly an hour with multiple local stops along the way. It also had more luggage racks than most train cars although many keep their huge bag with them and thereby block one or two seats. The worst feature was that our train had zero station announcements and no display of current or upcoming stations. Confusion about arrival at the airport occurred at each local stop among many passengers. In general I found Italian trams and trains to be dirty and beat up. They're very unpleasant compared to Dutch, German, and Swiss trains. read more

There are cities in the world where taking the train to the airport is simply optimal because the airport is far from the city centre and the trains are faster, cheaper, and comfortable. Count Milan in with London and Tokyo. The fixed rate for taxis as I write this is EUR 95. The Malpensa Express is EUR 13 per person. The journey from Nord Cadorna is 35 minutes versus 55 from Milano Centrale; twice per hour. The taxi from our city centre hotel near Duomo was 0.5 miles and EUR 7. The taxi drop is steps from the platform, without stairs, ramps, escalators, etc. The trains and platforms are level at Nord Cadorna and Malpensa T1, where a ramp carries travelers up to the concourse level where elevators and escalators carry travelers and baggage up to check-in. This is one of the least-effort alternatives to a taxi for airport travel I'm aware of. read more

We decided to take the airport express train to reach our hotel In downtown Milan. We read that a cab ride would cost about €100 whereas fare for Malpensa Express XP1 is only €14 per person. Our place landed at terminal 1 and it was a long walk to the station on lower level via escalator or elevator. Signage is pretty clear. The ticket machine was not working and the attendant who spoke English suggested buying on train We took escalator to platform 2 to access train. It was pretty straightforward. Once train reached Milano Nord Cadorna Station. We just walked to an elevator which took us downstairs to catch the Red Metro M1 line towards Sesto 1 direction to reach our hotel near Duomo. read more

Even though I had step-by-step instructions for the Malpensa Express I still found the entire process confusing. We had no issues making our way from baggage claim at the airport to the Malpensa Express ticket counter, but everything that occurred afterwards was a blur. We couldn't figure out how to use the machine so we decided to purchase the ticket from the guy at the counter that spoke little to no English. After we validated our tickets we made our way to the platform, but couldn't figure out which train to get on. We knew the stop that we needed to get off on, but none of the trains matched our destination. Finally we found what we thought was our train, but we were puzzled why it remained empty for almost thirty minutes. We couldn't believe that no one from our plane was using the Malpensa Express so we thought we must have gotten on the wrong train! Eventually the train loaded and left the station and before we knew it we were at the correct stop near our hotel. The Malpensa Express is a very cheap way (10€ per person) to get from your hotel to the airport, but my husband wasn't confident that we would get on the correct train again so on our way back to the airport we took a taxi instead. read more

Malpensa Express may be the best way to go between Milan and her major international gateway! Although it's named as an "express" train, Malpensa Express actually stops at few suburban stop before reaching its terminus stop in central Milan. However, you can count on this train on reaching its destination within an hour, while other ground transports like cars and taxi can get snared by the notorious Milanese traffic! The train itself is pretty comfortable as well. Although it's classified as a regional train, ME is run by the Lombard company Trenord and they keep the trains well-maintained and clean. In fact, you can expect the same seat comfort as a high-speed Frecciagento train! From both Terminals 1 and 2, ME actually has two different routes: one goes to the regional station Cadorna (XP1) and another to Milano Centrale (XP2). If you are heading to or from central Milan (i.e. the Duomo), your choice should be the 37-minute ride to Cadorna, where you can easily connect on the comfortable metro to reach the Duomo within minutes. If you are heading elsewhere on a high-speed train, you need to hop on the 57-minute ride to Centrale, which also stops at Porta Garibaldi. Each route runs on a different schedule at 30-minute interval so don't hop on the wrong train!* Overall, Malpensa Express is an incredibly reliable and fast airport transport solution that is also significantly cheaper than taxi that can cost about €100. This train would be better if it runs more frequently (every 15 or 20 minutes instead of the current 30) and actually lives up its "express" title with fewer stops. Nonetheless, this current Malpensa Express is still an effective airport link that should be your top choice to go to and from MXP! *If you do get on the wrong train, don't worry! You can either change to a different ME train at Milano Bovisa, the common point between the lines, or transfer to Milan Metro at the terminus. --- ONLINE BOOKING (As of Feb 2017) If you need only an one-way ticket, online booking offers no advantage aside from being able to hop directly on the train while imposing a time limit on yourself. For the least hassle, purchase the ticket at any of its stations for €13. If you want a return ticket though, the on-site return ticket of €20 is valid only for same-day return. Online ticket on Trenord however offers a 30-day return. You must choose a specific time but fortunately you can hop on any train that is in the 3-hour window from your choice (i.e. if you choose 7 AM, you can hop on any train before 10 AM). If you choose a central Milan station (Centrale, Porta Garibaldi, Cadorna), you can hop on either XP1 and XP2 on either leg - For example, you can ride from MXP to Centrale on XP1 and return to MXP from Cadorna on XP2. I came as a tourist to Milano, I bought tickets to Malpensa express, unfortunately I get fine because I didn't validate this ticket. Seriously? I am buying ticket in ticket office and again I have to validate it? No one said about it, it's difficult to communicate in English, people are creating confusion. The checker was incredibly rude, explaining that I am tourist, first time here, I bought ticket, I didn't know how to validate, nothing. I get 17 euros fine, and when I was trying to explain, he said that he is going to call police and I will have to pay 100 euros fine. This is how you are treating people? Zero understanding. I am shocked, because I thought that Italian people are kind, unfortunately I was wrong. Its better to take bus, because its taking same time to reach Milan. read more

The train system was easy to navigate because I purchased my train tickets at the ticket counter at the Malpensa Airport and I already knew my destination was Stazione Centralle which is the end of the line, The cost of the tickets is 12 euro for adults, The trains run about every 30 minutes and they are on time. Validate you tickets prior to boarding at the validation machine that are on poles adjacent to the track, Check the big board for your train and it's destination, Track platforms are not assigned to trains until about 15 minutes prior to train's departure time. No one ever asked to see my train tickets on the Malpensa Express. My only problem was on the return from Stazione Centralle to Malpensa, half way through the trip, the train had a mechanical problem involving a smoking vent in one of the cars which caused the train to be evacuated and the passengers were re routed to another train that was going to the airport. Fortunately, the other train came after a 15 minute delay, but any more of a delay would have cost me missing my flight. I recommend taking an early train because you never know what can happen on the way. read more

Not bad... only 10EUR direct from the airport to Centrale. My flight had arrived MXP an hour early, so early that I'd have to wait an hour for the first Malpensa Express train. Not sure if it's the same time everyday, or a later start cause it's Sunday - - but the train I caught was a 7:40am train. Approximately an hour ride into the city - - nothing too glamorous to look at on the ride in. (Just nice to be off that long flight...) I tried booking from the self-service machines at the airport, but oddly it didn't list Centrale - - so I just went in and purchased from a friendly, English-speaking agent. Remember to validate your ticket before you go on the train; however there was a bunch of train employees who walked up/down - - but no one ever asked to see my ticket. Convenient - - fair priced compared with taxi service; I'll be using them again on my return trip to MXP. Oh... one more thing, their website shows something about combining a ticket with a 24 or 48 day pass w some other discounts. (I probably should've done that.. oh well.) read more

Malpensa Express to Cadorna was easy, clean, and fast. It only took 30 mins for 18€ round trip. Not bad since a taxi could run around 80-100€ one way. If you don't speak Italian the train staff will gladly help but there might be a lot of pointing and gesturing. All in all quick, easy, and inexpensive. read more

I don't get why I should spend 13€ for a slow train (called "express"), that stops in places like Lonate Pozzolo and takes 1 hour to reach Malpensa from Milan (same as the bus). Crowded, no seats, no signs or indications about the stops (I have to ask to people around where I am). Is not even on time! At the time we went, it was 16EUR for roundtrip/person from and to Malpensa Airport from Milano Centrale Station. It was OK, took a 40 minute ride into the city, but expect an hour+ when there's traffic. Also, IIRC, this is the shuttle that lacked free wi-fi and it is the other company, Malpensa Shuttle, that has free wi-fi. Either way, both companies charged the same rates pretty much. read more

They prey on tourists who after buying a ticket the the date and time already printed on it that you have to validate it again. If you don't, they make you buy a ticket onboard at a much higher price. They won't validate it on the train. On the way to the airport, the conductor just punches a hole in the ticket to validate it. These people are rude and despicable. read more
