Mike the owner is very responsive and gives a very detailed estimate. He is honest and tells you if he is too busy and can't get to your project for 2-3 weeks rather than tell you he can be there next week, just to get the contract and keep postponing you. We had used Mike's Tree Service a few times in the past and we were happy with them. Recently a major storm uprooted a large tree in our backyard. Fortunately that tree fell in such a way that it was caught by an even larger cedar tree so it didn't fall to the ground and wasn't an emergency. Obviously I had to deal with it and Mike's jumped on having an estimator come to take a look even though they were buried with emergencies all over town as a result of the storm. In addition to the uprooted tree, the cedar tree that it fell into had not been trimmed in over 20 years. They provided an estimate and scheduled me for about a week later. The crew showed up first thing in the morning on the scheduled day, the foreman introduced himself, and they got to work. They are obviously professionals, and made the immense amount of work they did look easy. About three hours later the job was done and my property was cleaner than it was when they arrived! I can't speak highly enough of their skill and professionalism, and communication from their office throughout the process was first rate. read more

After getting several estimates, Dave of Mike's Tree Service provided the best bid. He explained they were currently helping with the clearing of burned out trees that were threatening power lines. Once they had a clear spot, they would be over to take down my 130' dead pine. About a week later we arranged to have the crew come over. The three man crew arrived right on time and got right to work. This tree was in a tight area, fences close on one side and a nice hedge on the other side. They really only had about a 12' to 15 width as a drop zone. It took a couple of days but the climber, Hunter, was methodical, precise and careful while hanging from a rope about 100' up. He brought that big pine down piece by piece. Ezekiel, Andre and Javier worked constantly to move the pieces from the backyard out to the street and into the chipper - and this was a "no joke" chipper. If the guy in "Fargo had one of these, there would be nothing left. As I said, it was a tight spot and a couple of the fence boards took a hit - it was amazing that only a couple of boards were hit. The crew did a fine repair job on the fence. The crew walked me around when they had finished and, after some last minute tidying up, they were gone. At all times they were polite, professional and, most of all, careful of the property. I can say with authority - I would definitely use them again. read more

After removing the giant tree we noticed there was still some of the stump left that had not been chipped all the way down to the ground. Called up Dave to let him know and he said "no problem, we can get back out there." He came back yesterday with the grinder and did a fantastic job. He even removed a couple of smaller stumps that we had on the other side of the property as well as some of the shoots that were popping up from the old poplar. I wasn't home to thank him but when my wife asked what we owed for the extra generous work, he replied "no charge, don't worry about it." What a great company. First I had these guys come out and remove a dead tree, some small palms and some other bushes. They did a fine job and ground out the stumps. Then I had them come back and do some work on my redwood grove. This grove is about 50 years old and very important to me. It had never been trimmed at all and was overcrowded, full of dead branches etc. They limbed them up, thinned them out and removed the dead limbs. They now look like a totally different little grove and they are beautiful to sit under and gaze up into. The crew cleaned up when they were finished and were also were very nice. I am not sure of the cost compared to other places (1400) but this was for 10 - 12 trees and they went high up in there. Besides, when it comes to important trees I would rather pay a little more and have it done right anyways. Also, they came right out for a free estimate both times! read more

I was incredibly pleased with the service from Mike's - from start to finish. The owner met me and provided a professional, reasonable written estimate on the spot. Scheduling both the estimate and the work was a pleasant experience, and we were really happy with the work. We had them trim trees in two locations. At one house, the owner of Mike's Tree Service noticed that a pipe had broken in the backyard -- the backyard was flooded. This is the worst and most difficult company I have ever had to deal with. The receptionist Kathryn is extremely rude, difficult to work with, unprofessional and verbally abusive. It's pretty sad that one person within the company can put such a negative impact on the business. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. I've never given a business this bad of a rating but unfortunately the extremely unprofessional and dishonest behavior of the crew warrants this. Mikes Tree Service removed a diseased 40 ft high tree , and ground the stump in August. The job was well done. A few days later I heard from a neighbor asking who had done the work on our property. It turns out that the huge pile of chips from our job were dumped at her property. Obviously, no one hires a company so they can then trash a neighbor's property. Although Dave, the owner, offered to have his crew go clean up the mess, our neighbor didn't want them to come anywhere near their place. And I too will never hire or recommend them again. read more

Here I am giving Mike's another 5 star rating. We just had them prune a huge willow tree which overhung most of our house. Dan and his crew came a couple of days after we first called and spent a day cutting the dangerous limbs and cleaning tons of old dead wood that had accumulated over the past 25 years. Mike took down a dying oak tree that was close to my house and carefully trimmed back a couple of large branch over my home and ground out the stump of the oak. They didn't damage a single thing, they cleaned up after as well. And they were the lowest bid of a LICENSED tree service. read more

I called Mikes Tree Service three times to get a stump ground from my front yard. Each time they said someone would contact me but no one ever did. The last time I called they apologized and said they would page some and have them call me right back. Never did. I think a call back is the least a business can do for potential customers. Wow, a call back would have been nice! I called this company, spoke with a live person. I was to get a call back regarding having a tree removed from my backyard. I didn't recieve one. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and called back several weeks later, left a message with live person and was told "Dave" would be calling me back. I never heard from "Dave" or anyone else. I had a 100 ft tree that needed to be removed. I guess business must be good because I gave my money to another company. read more

I unfortunately had a bad experience with this tree service. When I first had an estimate done by Dave, he started talking negatively about his ex-wife. This was the first time that I met him. He gave me the estimate and told me that once I turned the contract in, that it would take two weeks for an appointment. Well, the contract was received by Dave and in two weeks, I called him, left a message and a phone call was never returned. I called again a week later and he said the he was making out the schedule and will let me know when he will be out. Two weeks passed again with no communication from him. I called again and left a message, no return phone call was made. I called again and asked if he wanted to do the job, he called me back and said that he had an emergency. Emergency or not, someone should have called me back so that I could make other arrangements. The crew came out and started on Thursday, they did an excellent job. Dave told me that the job would be completed by that Friday. I had to leave so I gave one of the workers a check. He said that the fence would have to be moved and that they needed a larger saw for one of the trees. When I returned on Friday, the job was not completed. I called Dave on Monday and told him the situation. They came out and cut my fence. I was not home because he did not inform me when they would return. I called Dave and asked when he would be coming out to complete the job. He sarcastically said that if I came outside, I could speak with him. I told him that I was not home and that I would be home in a half hour, again, sarcastically told me that he would not be there. He told me that he cut the fence. I asked him to please repair the fence the way that he found it. I returned home to find copper wire on a silver cyclone fence. I called him and told him that I was not satisfied with the copper wire. He needs to fix the fence correctly. He said that my contract stated that ......... he was back peddling. I told him that I hired Mike's because they were licensed and if he did not fix it correctly that I would complain. He said that he didn't know how it would be done. I said then hire a fence guy. I asked him to give me an exact time when he would be over to fix the fence. He said this week, he could not give me an exact time. He came out finally on Friday without communicating to me. The contract was signed in March. It took 3 months to complete the job for a "one" day job. Lack of follow up, communication and dishonesty. read more
