MHS came to our aid and did a brilliant job at a fair price. Our home needed a whole house re-plumb which necessitated significant demolition of the home by the plumbers - walls, ceilings, foundation, showers. MHS followed the destruction of the plumbers by putting the entire house back together as promised on time. Their crew and leadership were available and easy to work with. They listened to what we wanted and made very helpful suggestions that significantly improved the results of the project. Jason from Mike's handyman service almost killed my parents. He and his coworkers left a pilot light unlit in my elderly parent's home on Friday. My parents were home for 2 days living with a gas leak. I walked into their house on a Sunday to smell gas in their home. Fortunately they didn't blow up before I arrived. I had to air out their home and light the pilot light myself. I give them 1 star because the stovetop they installed works well and looks nice. MHS deserves 5 stars from my experience. I do most handyman work myself but routing a cooktop vent through an existing cabinet with no vent, through a load bearing wall top plate, into an attic with a "California joint"' over the wall, and up to and through the roof isn't a job I wanted any part of. I accepted their offer late in my time frame after an AC contractor balked at the cabinet and wall plate work. After Mellissa (very professional) heard my plea for help,They started the job next day! Turns out Mike has different people for different jobs (wow - unexpected). I saw three different guys for this job, cabinet, ductwork and electrical. Completed in 1.5 days, the quality of the work was outstanding. Perhaps equally as important, the price was very reasonable (competitive). These guys are good! read more

Mike and his crew were cool people. He came with two other guys which initially I thought was odd at first and I was hesitant to hire him. They did a daily rate and in a certain time period they would get all of the work done. He said they would work for 7hrs and that rate would cover the 7 hours. They would get as much as possible done in that time. I had given Mike a list of things that I'd want done and most of those things were completed. Everything that Mike himself completed seemed to be quality work. I do have to say that there were a couple issues after they left that we ended up having to figure out on our own or fix. We had a few three-way light switches that were not wired correctly and so my boyfriend has been going crazy trying to figure those out and I had asked for another thing to be done and it was just a little sloppy so I spent a whole day cleaning it up and I still haven't been able to remove it. Mike himself did not work on these things. Other than those two things, no real issues and they didn't stop for breaks every five minutes or leave to pick up food and come back or anything like that. They worked the entire time and took one break and got back to work. Mike even did an extra few jobs that were not listed so that was cool. read more

I asked Mike if he did handyman jobs as well as construction. He assured me he did. I asked for quotes for two bigger jobs, and one smaller one, which was replacing the threshold at my front door. I decided to do the front door first, to see the work performed. Well, I'm still waiting. Despite multiple emails, and numerous phone calls to the company, they refuse to contact me back, there is no appointment scheduled. I even asked that if they weren't going to do it, could they at least let me know so I can find someone else. Crickets. What an unprofessional operation this is. If you don't do small jobs, say so. I needed a water heater replacement. Called Mike's Handyman and they took care of everything. Got me a high quality product at a good price. They covered all the details in the installation. Installed a pan, hooked up a drain and strapped it down, bled the water lines after installation and tested the unit. I must revise my review - what a change from my tremendous praise based upon a recommendation and the first impression of the owner who gave me an estimate and fixed a piece of wood on my gate and then said he would come back to do a long list of repairs. Boy I should have waited because Mike needed to be chased down to get an appt since he didn't come when he said he would but I was happy when he set a date Then the nightmare began. He didn't show but sent three kids to do my job. The two who worked on replacing fence posts and a concrete block were great and hopefully their work will pass the test of time. The third acted like he had never touched a tool snd his work proved it. He installed a towel bar crooked and a toilet paper holder below designated spot leaving metal molly bolt from old one showing When he fixed it he left a big hole in wallpaper trying to remove Molly bolt. He didn't patch all the holes in closet wall and the ones he did weren't smoothed over so very lumpy Then he went outside to patch a fine crack in concrete and left it a big glob not even smoothed out. Finally he patched a post under a decorative shelf in front of a window and left it half done for another builder friend who stopped by to show me the incomplete mess. I worked with the kid to get house numbers up properly snd I was shaking after he left because I had to follow him around to check every little thing. I've never seen anyone this bad sent out to do these simple tasks. The worst was a speaker for an intercom I needed replaced He picked up a safety pin and a spring on the magnet back and installed it so loosely that when I touched it it swayed back and forth. After showing it to him he said he would fix it snd I couldn't wait for him to leave. I was paying $1759 for all of this remember and it wasn't to have a teenager screw it up. It rained and the concrete patch washed away leaving the crack wide open. I'd had it and complained and I had supplied most of the materials needed. Mike came out to his credit snd went over it all with me and redid what wasn't good and then told me about the pins and spring on my speaker and that the motherboard was damaged and now useless. He took down the toilet paper holder to try to fix the groove left and told me there was a big hole Behind it - since we had removed all the old fixtures I knew the kid had created it and that damaged the wallpaper. The kid isn't an electrician so I was concerned and Mike fortunately redid it but it was already no longer functional. He fixed the concrete correctly and patched the closet holes while the kid redid the patch job on the post.when I checked layer he still hadn't filled in all the holes but simply painted over it again. Can you believe this - no lie/this really happened - how mike had the nerve to send this incompetent to screw up so badly I don't know but it sure has left me thinking carefully about hiring this outfit ever again. This kid needs to find another trade or he will ruin Mikes business as well as his reputation - maybe that was his intent. You can't make this stuff up. The most demeaning part about this is that I'm a retiree and to think that someone would think I was stupidly deserving of such shoddy treatment at the not so little cost of $1750.00 is the most troubling. It's something the elderly have to be concerned with it seems snd that's so sad . read more

Called this company based on some very good Yelp reviews. At the beginning of August, when I called, was told the first available date was August 13. That was fine. I was then asked what I needed done. I explained to the receptionist that I needed some shelves and a cabinet installed. Seemed like a fairly small and simple job, to me. I was told a technician would be out between 10 and 11. Period. I was not told this would be just to take pictures and get information and THEN I would get an estimate. That was Tuesday. Today is Saturday and I have heard NOTHING. I also got a call on the day of the appointment and was told the technician would be coming at 1:00 not between 10 and 11! I was happy that they at least called to let me know he would be 2 hours late. Too bad it has been 5 days and still no estimate! read more

The scheduled appointment was not only ignored by this company without any contact indicating that they would be delayed but when "Art" did call 3 hours later he said he was detained by another quote obligation in Malibu. It appears that this company is only interested quotes in the "higher crust" neighborhoods and doesn't really have an interest in the more "scaled down" opportunities. This company is going to learn the hard way that what goes around comes around especially when their business strategy involves in only going for the big bucks. I suspect this outcome was good for me since I won't have to contend with the possibility of my job being re-prioritized again for the sake of big bucks after a contract was signed. I have used Mike's Handyman Service since 2009, the first time was a relatively big job moving our electric panel from inside the house to halfway across our house to the outside, upgrading it and connecting our HVAC. Since then, I have used them several times including fixing to two porches, repairing a shower and other "honey do" projects. Recently we had a power surge after a Edison repair which they came out that day to help us troubleshoot different components in the house that would have to be repaired, one of which included our sprinklers system that they repaired. I saw one reviewer state that they help the "higher crust", they are not like that at all. Mike and all of his crew have been nothing but courteous and professional. They tried to give you an accurate estimate of time but with any repair job there are times that you run into unexpected difficulties that consumes more time.
