People go to Mike's Garden Center for all of your Gardening needs. This is a multigenerational business and the owner has a degree in horticultural. They are on another level when it comes to their lawn and plant care products and varieties of plants. Specifically, I was looking for a plant care product called Ferti-lome Root Stimulator Plant Starter and Medina Plus by Medlina which is a soil activator great for promoting flowering plants and the Ferti-Lome was on sale. Great value on sale or not. Both of these are great if you are a Gardner and if you know, you know know. Also, I was looking for Mexican Bird of Paradise plant and they have them in stock. I bought 4 and they have quite a bit of inventory. Note Home Depot does not carry these products. The service is a five. The woman that helped me was family to the owner, super helpful and friendly. i'm really shock at the low rating of this place. driving on the 114, i've seen this place multiple times and decided to stop in over the weekend to pick up two fruit trees. We ended up getting one fig tree and one plum tree. the people working there are very helpful and actually helped me save money. i was going to ask them to delivery and plant it at my house, but they told me that since the fruit trees i was buying were on the smaller side, i would simply just put it into my suv and save on the delivery fee. while planting was a pain in the ass, it didn't take too long to plant the two trees. They also recommended that i get some root growth liquid chemicals to help the trees grow. they typically have sales going on. For the fruit trees, it was buy one get another one 40% off. i'm not sure if other nurseries are offering sales, but it was a nice offer Mike was doing. Granted, i don't normally buy trees, i'm not sure if i overpaid for the fruit frees. I think the fig tree was 30 bucks and the plum tree for 40 bucks. Mike garden has a decent selection. they have items that are in the greenhouse along with a lot of other items outside. they also sell garden decorations as well. read more

GO TO MARSHALL GRAIN CO. OR FOREMAN'S GENERAL STORE (both in Colleyville) FOR A BETTER DEDICATED NURSERY. Honestly, the Southlake Lowes & Home Depot have just about as good of a garden center with none of the terrible customer service I've experienced at Mike's. ***Cross posted from Google reviews***. If you're reading this, I'm sure you've been so frustrated or let down by a business that you feel a duty to prevent others from having such a terrible experience. This is one of those situations, and is why I've posted this on Google Reviews, Yelp, and every other rating site I can find. Don't make our mistake, go to better nurseries who have better quality plants, more importantly, go for the better customer service. Mike's sold us aphid infested greens & refuses to stand behind their product or offer a reasonable solution to help us fix their mistake. Paul, the manager who I spoke to after a 10 minute hold, was immediately skeptical of my story, and claimed that no customer this year has called about a similar issue. That is despite the fact that their first two rows of greens were noticeably eaten up and infested for at least a 2 to 3 weeks. Paul claims that "they have a spraying program"(doesn't seem very effective). Paul quickly made it clear that there was nothing he would do to offer customer service or make the situation right. Paul's customer service was to 1. cast doubt on my story, 2. claim that any pests would be resolved by their in-house spraying, 3. offer no assistance or solution. I've shopped at Mikes for two years now and probably bought 150+ plants from them, and about about 100 bags of soil and compost. All told, I've probably spent $2,000-$3,000 at Mikes when I WAS a customer. During that time, we've enjoyed working with Christopher, Daniel, the other in-store employees, and the folks in the loading zone. Paul, however, has never gone out of his way to be helpful. In fact, several times when I visited the store in the early morning hours & was waiting by the checkout, Paul felt the need to radio to an employee somewhere else in the store to come assist me, despite the fact that he was standing right in front of me & the register. Again, there are better nurseries, with higher quality plants and competent managers elsewhere. Don't make our mistake. read more

I am a senior citizen on a fixed income. Mike's says they guarantee anything they plant. I paid over $1,000 for three medium sized bushes, including planting. They told me several times that if they planted them, they would be guaranteed for one year. Two of them died and now they say they only guarantee them for 6 months, Absolutely despicable - will never shop there again. read more

All the employees were gracious and helpful, and they have a HUGE variety. Trees, flowers, shrubs, herbs, veggies, fruits, etc etc. I think they are just understaffed, which leads to plants not being well cared for and it being a bit messy. While some items are priced high, several are great deals and they are always having sales. Tomato plants were only $1.19 ea. Will definitely be back. read more

This place has a wide selection of trees, shrubs, flowers, and everything else you need for gardening. The people, especially Luis and Mike, are helpful, knowledgeable, and experienced. I've bought a few items from this place already, including a beautiful autumn blaze maple. The price was competitive. I could have easily paid at least two times more in another place. But one thing I found out not until I needed to return a crape myrtle. It was after 4 days, unplanted and still in the pot. I needed to return it because this tree would outgrow the small space where I would be planting it. I didn't know they wouldn't take any returns or exchanges. The policy is displayed at the checkout counter and at the very bottom of the receipt. But I missed it in both places. It was totally my fault not reading the fine print and all the signs in the store. Anyway since the cashier didn't refund or allow me to exchange for something else, I just return it to the store "for free". I'm glad she kindly and graciously accepted it. My husband and I stopped by Mike's Garden Centers in Southlake to purchase some Poinsettias for our home and we were really disappointed by the quality/selection of plants. We only managed to find a single poinsettia in the entire nursery that wasn't wilting. Mikes Garden Centers Southlake, Texas Rating (5 Being the Best) 4* Overview I'm not a huge gardener. In fact. I've killed every plant I ever tried to grow. But I never really tried. Not really. I never took the time to learn. Apparently it's not as simple as just putting it in the dirt and adding water when you remember. This year is different. My wife, a better researcher than I, has done the work to learn how to do it right and we're going to start trying. We're actually going to do a raised garden bed. We stopped by Mikes, and in the deep winter cold, it felt like summer inside this little green house. I was impressed. When the trees outside were bare, it was the garden of eden inside Mike's. We picked up some things we need to get started pre winter and we'll be back for more when the season starts. It was so pretty inside. Flowers, labels, instructions. The staff was friendly. They answered any questions and looked for extra ideas (always a hint of a person who has passion for their subject). It was a great experience. Cost I actually have no experience with what a Garden Center should cost. But it seemed reasonable to me. Kids The kids enjoyed their time inside and even helped pick out some plant ideas for the new garden. Tips to enjoy it better... Maybe bring a diagram and list of what you want and a notebook and pen to write down their suggestions. Final Thoughts This place is worth going to, and central to my Church and Work. I'll be back! You can do much better than Mike's Garden Center. My daughter bought 3 Japanese Maple trees ($450 worth) from this place along with some flowers. They're a bit far away, but I was looking for 2 JM trees as well & the 30% off coupon made it worth a trip. Though it wasn't planned, I found 3 flats of Mondo grass & needed to replace some shrubs & saw these lovely Abelia 3 gal plants. Too much at $35 each but bought 6 guesstimating that's what I needed. Well the space only required 4 plants. I was going to be near this place & planned to return 2 Abelia plants which I only bought 8 days earlier and they still looked gorgeous. When I walked in, 6 staff were standing around with few customers & apparently nothing to do. They all blankly stared at me when I wanted to return 2 Abelia plants. After a very long pause one said only the manager could authorize that. Ok & and he called for him. I'd hardly got the words out of my mouth when the manager said flatly "we don't take returns . . . " in the worst retail manners I've seen or heard in a long time. I said ok & immediately left. Granted I'm spoiled with the generous return policy & usually helpful nature of Calloways, Blooming Colors among other garden centers. You can do much better than Mikes Garden Center. read more

I stopped in needing sod after going to local sod place and they were so friendly and exceeded expectations with loading us and even the guys doing the heavy lifting were friendly and beyond helpful making sure we didn't need anything else. Then I returned for more and when I walked up to the cashier he simply asked, "How many?" We have faces at Mike's and are treated like they want us to return. Way overpriced but good selection. This business Mark's everything up about 200% and then has a daily "sale". It's upsetting when businesses use this strategy and by now, you'd think most owners would realize customers are more sophisticated these days. Customer service is an issue at Mike's and they really need more customer-friendly staff at the registers. Tough to get help when you need someone for a quick question. Mostly though.... I'm just blown away by their inflated prices. Nice selection though. I left without buying today and I'm looking for a new garden center. I just won't give in to businesses who clearly don't understand what a "reasonable profit" is. Great place! Out of the three Mike's I've been to, this one is second. Crowley Mike's still has the best plants. However, this place also has nice well cared for plants just not quite as diverse of a selection. I think they have the best selection of fountains and concrete garden art I have seen other than at Classic Stone. Well worth a stop! I walked out with asters and lobelia today. read more

I went in and spent $375.00 on various plants and flowers. When potting one of the large plants, I dumped out the plant to find a massive fire ant home; eggs, larvae, everything. I freaked out and tossed it in the nearest compost bag near me, since they were biting! I returned to Mikes, because there were a few other things I needed. I asked for the manager, Paul, and told him what happened. I showed him my receipt, and a picture I had. He preceded to say, "What do you want me to do without the plant." I said, "Oh, well it's at the bottom of my compost bag..." He then told me, I needed to get it out, and bring it up there. I explained that I wasn't comfortable doing that, since I had little kids, and didn't want to reach in and dig around for a $12 plant. I left flustered. After realizing what he was asking me to do, I called and told him the $12 wasn't worth it, and I wasn't returning because I would NEVER return, and any other nursery, Lowe's, Home Depot, Flower Ranch, would have treated the situation differently. I came here after being disappointed at the Calloways nearby. The staff here is more knowledgeable. It has a very "in the country" feel although right off the freeway. I did not see a sign posted about no returns or exchanges, but probably just missed it. It is on the receipt however. The plants I purchased were for a preliminary display to see if we liked them. They were not exactly what we wanted, so tried to return them for exchange. At that point I found out about the no exchange policy that I have been used to at Lowes and Home Depot. Would I shop here again? Only if I am sure of what I want to purchase. read more

Our experience with Mike's Garden Center in Southlake was not a pleasant one. Took a card from a plant we had for a while and wanted to get the same tree. An employee went and found a tree with no markings or card to tell us it was the same tree. Got home, it was not the same tree. Went back and wanted to exchange it for something else, obviously they didn't have the tree. The owner was RUDE and told us there were "NO EXCHANGES OR REFUNDS" and to read our receipt. The owner needs to take lessons from his nice and friendly employee as to how to treat a customer. So be aware and make sure your purchase is right. We will never shop this nursery again. I tried to return a bag of unopened, Miracle Grow dirt today. They workers including the manager let me know that they do not take returns even with a receipt, which I had. In this day and age of customer service, it is unreal to me that a retail establishment does not take returns. If I buy plants there and they die on me in a week, will they not back up their product??? I really want to support local businesses, but this will be one that I don't support anymore. They don't stand behind their plants. I've purchased several things here, even though their pricing isn't particularly good. Most of their plants were fine, but one of the plants I purchased died almost immediately and when I called about bringing it back, along with my receipt, they said they don't accept any plant returns. Calloways, along with Lowe's and Home Depot stand behind their products, including plants. I see no reason to spend money here at Mike's when they don't. read more

They have a no return policy for any reason. I was not aware of this. Horrible customer service! I am a Tarrant County Master gardener and will not be back. I've had great luck at Mike's. They have a terrific selection of all types of plants, including many that are hard to find. I've never seen a Japanese Maple selection like theirs, and their prices are very reasonable. A few years ago we purchased 3 trees which they planted. After about a year, it was clear that one was not doing well. Mikes honored their guarantee without fuss, came out promptly and planted a new one. They don't offer any guarantees on their stuff and there are no refunds, but the prices are so good that it doesn't matter most of the time. But I've got to say, it's very disappointing to attempt to return a $29 plant the day after I bought it simply because I purchased 1 too many. I get the policy. But I've spent $800 at Mike's in the past 3 weeks and have been a faithful customer for years. The staff is helpful and the plants, although comparatively overpriced, are nice looking. But I will no longer give them my business when they cannot make an exception to this return policy. It seems silly to lose a customer over this. What do you gain from that? I've been a loyal customer to Mike's for years. It's a great oasis among the growing commercial industry of Southlake where you can sneak inside and just disappear into nature. The selection is vast - indoor, outdoor, garden, supplies, fountains, etc. The plants ALWAYS seem so healthy and cared for - not like other chain garden centers closeby. When I asked that question, her answer was no and go on the internet before you call and look this up before you call places. So sorry to bother you. Many business need customer service training. Vegetable Growers Paradise!! This is the ONLY place that I can find PORTER"S TOMATOES seedlings which grow prolifically in the hot DFW sun that brings temperatures well over 100 degrees. I paid $1.18 per plant and it is well worth it! They are now selling PORTER'S IMPROVED TOMATOES also so I bought some of them too. They also introduced me to the St. Nick's tomato also which is another great little heat resistant tomato plant. The price of the zucchini, yellow squash & okra is also a lot less than at Walmart, Lowes & Home Depot single seedlings. read more
