He sold me two fluorescent light bulbs for $60. When I got home they didn't work. I called him and he said he would not take them back after talking to another Electrician. I realized that I was overcharged. I called Lowe's I could get the same light bulbs for $13.99 opposed to $60 for two. On the sign in the store it did not no returns on this item. He did not care that I am senior citizen and I can't afford to pay that much money and just throw it in the trash. read more

Mike was the most professionally knowledgeable and friendly electrician who has ever worked for us. He arrived promptly, went to work quickly, and removed and installed two ceiling fans/lights, ensuring the remotes worked correctly. In less than 2 hours we had 2 beautiful lighting fixtures installed and working perfectly--a large wooden palm-leaf fan installed on a 12 foot ceiling in a sunroom, and a black decorative caged fan/light. I called for a single outlet issue that was showing a crossed wire. He charged me almost $200 to come out (not unusual). When he did show up, he started ranting about things totally unrelated to what I called him about to the point where I literally could not get a word in on the conversation. I told him to stop trying to upsell me to bring a 50 year old house up to "code" when it has been like that its whole life. He continued ranting about things completely separate from what I brought him in to assess, and then he tried to upsell me for 5K instead of the $200 fix I was asking. He then insisted on payment before leaving and provided me a written quote the next day that was not what I asked for. When I asked for the limited scope of work that I hired him for, he refused to to it and insisted that I only hire him for the 5K scope of work. We've used Mike's Electrical for several years, but recently ran into a situation where they installed a flood light on my garage. Granted, the electrical wiring was great! No issues there. Except they installed a cheap light (probably made in China) & it only lasted a few months & went dead. I was given no paperwork for the light or any warranty information. They came out & never even inspected the light or tested the wiring. The tech said he could replace it for a cost of $185 & a $50 service fee. I decided at that very moment that making their customer happy was not a top priority to them & neither was their work. Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed in them & I will not recommend them anymore as I have for several years. My brother in California who is a licensed electrician had to build me a flood light & ship it to me. Mikes electrical caused me a lot of unnecessary headache over something they easily could have made right. ​ read more

Unprofessional. Overpriced. Simple job at my place of employment. Replace a couple of tombstones in a light fixture, ( About $3.00 each) and a GFI Plug and box on the roof of building. ( Approx $30.00 , Home Depot) Told us the GFI and box was $50.00. Arrived at 10:58 and finished at 12:04. Charged for two hours. I ask another electrician to quote after the fact, should have cost approx. $ 185.00. Was charged $325.00. Well , will not use them ever again. read more

Reading these reviews it is hard to believe we are talking about the same company. They have done a lot of work for me in the past including 1) connect an outlet to a gas fireplace 2) install an outlet for a microwave 3) fix a problem with a tripping GFI outlet and install new exterior outlets 4) install an inside switch for an outside outlet 5) run power and install a light in a storage area and 6) install and wire a porch light. Always prompt, professional, and competitively priced. I can't imagine using anyone else when an electrical need pops up and I am about to have them quote some additional projects. read more

I disagree with the previous negative reviewer. Their home looked like it needed a bulldozer to tear it down to begin with. What a pigsty. Comments sounded racial as well. Mike's Electrical Service has a very professional crew, they were punctual, fixed our electrical problem promptly and even upgraded a few things at a very affordable price. Had this company come out to do a fairly large job. We were left however, with more issues than we started with. The switches put in left holes too big to be covered by the plates that cover them. The light installed was not the right light. There was a big hole out into our ceiling in a room they weren't supposed to be in because they fell through the floor when in the attic. Then they lied and became angry about it which was so odd. Why lie about something so obvious? It's a HUGE hole that wasn't there this morning! They busted my attic access and messed up the paint on the wall next to it. They smashed my air ducts in the attic while they were up there and we had no air conditioning coming through! The outlet that was installed was put in the wrong location, so in my bathroom, I couldn't put a mirror over my sink without it covering the outlet! They took the gutter and soffit off my house where they were doing some wiring and then left it all on the ground without putting it back up. When asked if they were going to come back to do it, they said "the wind took it down, not us." Seriously?? At the end of the day, I'm very pregnant and I had to hire someone else to come and fix multiple issues and patch holes all over my house. Then of course paint. When we asked if they were going to fix the issues, we were told to deal with it. They were very mean. I wouldn't recommend them unless you plan on paying double for someone else to come behind them and finish the job. read more

Called this company about my water heater being out and thought it was an electrical problem because my breaker kept tripping. They said they could come tomorrow for $95.00 an hour; fix it if they had time. They came the next morning and said that I had a squirrel eat through my wiring and that was causing a short. They gave me a quote to replace my breaker box for $2225 or fix my wires for $525.00 And charged me $95.00 for only being there for thirty minutes to tell me this. In addition, they told me that it's not easy and you can't just connect the wires. I went to home depot and spent $15.00 on wire strippers/cutters. And took down my sheet rock and cut and joined the wires myself in a total of 15 minutes. Something the company could have done within the hour but chose not to. His electricians troubleshot and fixed my 110V problem, gave me a very competitive estimate for my new 240V outlet, and when I approved, installed it within 30 minutes. I had mikes come repair some unsafe wiring in my attic and crawl space that was found during a home inspection mike had his crew come and give me an estimate within an hour. I had seen pictures from the inspector and was concerned that it was going to cost me my arms and legs. Mikes tech explained to me that they were able to complete the job in around 2-3 hours and gave me a price that I could afford. They took before and after pictures so I could keep them for my records it was a rats nest up there and they made everything so nice and tidy they showed me an extra unsafe connection under the house that they were able to fix and didn't even charge me more to do so. I've had Mike's electrical come out to do several jobs in the last couple of years. My old house in Kempsville has aluminum wiring that kept arcing and melting outlets, so Mike's electrical came out and fixed it all. It was not a "cheap" fix, but a very thorough and safe fix. I'd rather spend the money to do it right, then worry about my house burning down. They are always on-time, and friendly. They easily give me answers to my questions about the how and why. I've since had them replace many light fixtures inside and outside my home.
