Needed a roofing job done quickly. We called A Better Handyman and they came out very quickly. Assessed the issue, fixed the issue that day. Extremely pleased with service. Will most definitely use again for other projects. read more

Really good guys. Rodney and Chip serviced our needs well when we had to have the front of the house completely taken off due to severe water damage from under the windows. They also had to take up all of the flooring in the laundry room due to standing water below. They rebuilt the front wall to the house and rebuilt the floor in the laundry room expertly. They hung new interior doors, installed a new custom counter top and sink in the kitchen and so much more. We couldn't be happier with the outcome after so many well-needed renovations. read more

I'm totally happy with my new gate. I called "A Better Handyman" from a flyer that was left at my door. I'd recently move to this house and a new gate was desperately needed. Shannon was very friendly and personable and in no time the guys were here rocking and rolling. They did a phenomenal job, and cleaned up nicely. read more

I'm a home owner living out of state and needed a handyman to make repairs to wind damaged old aluminum siding. A Better Handyman completed all repairs quickly, professionally, and then sent pictures to confirm repairs! Great communication with this company on the phone and using text messages. I will use this company again. read more

This company did some exterior/interior painting on my rental house. I was satisfied with the work they did. However, they wanted payment for the entire project before it was completed and their prices were a bit excessive in my opinion. FYI if you plan to pay with a credit card there's a 4% charge so make sure to have a check or cash. read more

Was very tempted to sabotage his online ratings...just so that I could keep Joe and his team to myself. But that'd be wrong and someone wouldn't get the great service that they provide. While I hear Lyndsey's experience below, I have to say that the team is incredibly busy and was the ONLY one of 3-4 contractors that I called that actually followed up via phone and email. Coordinated with me over 3 time zones and with 2 neighbors. As a landlord, living in CA after leaving the home, Joe is a trustworthy and honest man. He has a talent for knowing what needs to be done and making sure it's done right, the first time. I will not hesitate to say that you should not even think about dialing someone else...but if you don't, well, then I'll keep him to myself and my 97 year old house will certainly be calling them back. read more

A Better Handyman replaced my deck and did minor siding repair on my home. I am extremely happy with the quality of the work performed, and would recommend using them to my friends. read more

See ad on television, called, and was flat out told they won't come out to Suffolk. Nice to know they have soooo much business they can turn people away. read more

We had an appointment to evaluate a roof leak. Guess the job was too small since there were two missed appointments and no one came to evaluate or quote the job. I get it that contractors are busy right now and utilizing the labor they have available on large profitable jobs. But that could have been communicated, simply not responding is just unprofessional. read more

I needed to have a deck and wheel chair ramp built for my mom. We are so happy we hired A Better Handyman. Joe and his wife Shannon were easy to work with and his crew were polite, well trained professionals. The job was completed on time and on budget. I will call this company for additional services in the future and will recommended this company to others. I love the fact that this company cares enough to do quality work and stands behind it. I would give this company a A+ read more

I had an appointment today and I recurved a message to call and confirm. When I called I said I was returning a call and I said is this Shannon and I didn't hear anyone so I said I recurved a voicemail from that number. Shannon said this is Shannon and was very rude saying who is this I get a lot of calls. Anyway I told her I didn't appreciate the way she was talking and customer service was poor. She got mad and refused to send anyone out. Wow guess they don't need jobs! read more

Thanks to Shannon and the team for their good work. I had them do three different jobs on my house, and they completed each one in a timely and professional manner. The first was replacing some old siding and rotten fascia boards, then a new roof gutter collector and downspout, and finally cleaning and putting in new mortar on some water-damaged exterior brick. Each time they showed up as promised and completed their work quickly. After one of the jobs, I noticed a couple of very minor things I wasn't completely happy with, and they came out the same day and made fixes. Great service and their prices were very reasonable. read more

We had a great experience with Joe and his team! Shannon, the office manager, gave excellent customer service when I called to set up the appointment and additionally called and confirmed the day my quote was scheduled. Joe gave an honest and fair review of my door's needs and the quote was affordable. We were able to schedule the repair within a week, a huge plus for us! The day of the repair, Rodney and Chip did excellent work replacing our door frame and fixing some customized issues due to an irregular sized frame. All in all I would recommend this company for fair, affordable, quick, and quality work! read more

I needed my door re-framed after someone had kicked it in. I called and someone came out that day to inspect it and everything seemed promising. After he left, I got the new door frame and called him back to see if he would be able to instal it like he said he would. No one answered so I left a voice mail. I didn't receive a call back after two days so I called the secretary, she didn't answer. So I called an hour later and she picked up, she said she wouldn't be able to talk to me right then but said she'd call back in an hour. She never called back. So I called again, no answer. I left a voicemail and it's been about a week with no call backs. They seem like really nice people but their organization and professionalism needs a lot of work. Needless to say I'm paying someone else to do it now, and because they are doing it with no hassle they are getting a fat tip from me. read more

Joe and his team came out to install a window A/C unit for me on a very hot day after my old unit had stopped working. They provided EXCELLENT service and were very professional. They arrived at my home within an hour of my phone call. I highly recomment them. read more

I needed a 20 ft shed walkway replaced; the original 1-in x 6-in x 4ft composite lumber was falling apart. Work done was excellent quality by a friendly and professional crew of two. The process was rocky, however. Original lumber was screwed down on stringers and had too-long unsupported free ends that were gradually breaking off as the material aged. Initial plan was to add a stringer support closer to the end and replace lumber. I assumed replacement lumber would be screwed down like the original; having a long history of frustration with popping nails on a deck, did not want nails. Quote for the walkway was $800. After discussion we shifted to 2x6 pressure treated wood which eliminated need for the new stringer since 2x6 is a stronger board. Price did not change even though pressure treated 2x6x8ft is one less than 1/3 of 1x6x8ft composite (used Lowes for comparison). My concerns about the price for the work (22 boards cut in half and the halves screwed down) wrestled with my laziness and desire to just get it done. Laziness won, agreed to price. Crew showed up prepared to fasten down replacement wood with a nail gun. Discussed my preference for screws with business owner who told me he had me on body cam recording agreeing to galvanized nails--I was unaware that our conversation had been recorded and had no memory of agreeing to nails. I never reviewed this body cam recording. I consider his failure to mention it devious at best. As it happened, the compressor for the pneumatic nail gun went belly up and I was able to get the boards screwed down, but I had to supply the screws--about $20 worth. Total job took about 4 hrs, including a run to the hardware store for a couple more boards. There was small light fixture installation that brought my cost to $970 and did not add time on site. Total labor costs for the day, after accounting for $120 for lumber (Lowes' website price w/o tax) and a 10% discount from an advertising flyer, was $863 for about 4 hours work. Had the crew arrived with sufficient lumber and nailed the boards as planned, they would have been done in 90 min or less. Bottom line, the work is rock solid but I had to fight for the fasteners I wanted, supply them myself, and I paid a PREMIUM price given that material costs dived from $440 (22 boards @ $19.97ea--Lowes) to $125 (22 boards @ $5.67ea--Lowes) when the plan changed from 1x6 composite lumber to 2x6 pressure treated. A friend of mine who has contracting experience said I was gouged; the numbers incline me to agree. Ideally, I should have done the price homework before the job but only did it after because beforehand, did not know exactly what would be involved. A great lesson, if painfully expensive. read more

After receiving a solicitation left on my front door at home I checked their site, read a few reviews and called to make an appointment. Nice lady scheduled a time about a week and a half out and on the day and window of time for the appointment - no show - no call. I called the business and being a Saturday it went to vm stating the business was closed. Never got a call apologizing for missing the appointment or to reschedule a time. My advice to the business owner is don't leave door solicitations if you don't need the business. I was extremely inconvenienced and would not recommend this business to my friends/neighbors. read more

lets see so far Joe and his guys has replaced rotted wood, house jacking, roof repairs, changed the structure of the roof in the rear, installed a couple windows, replaced my parents roof, built my parents a sunroom and some other small stuff. All was done faster than what was told it would be done in and under the price i was told from the start of the job. will continue using for all my home needs. read more

Can't honestly say. I called them to have a TV mounted on the wall and they never replied. Might be great, but their follow-up sucks.

They're our go-to handy man. Joe and his team have impressed us each time we've had them out for a job. They get the job done right the first time - that's huge! Here are some examples of some projects that they have undertaken: floor replacement, plumbing issues, moisture barrier/insulation, refitting/installing doors, and doing custom gutter work to fix the drainage problem in our backyard. You don't get service like that from a big name company. read more

I read some great reviews, so I called and left a msg last week. A young lady returned my call very fast. We talked about some of the things I needed done. I was happy to make an appointment. the appointment was set for the following week, which was today, for the time frame of 1pm to 2pm. No show, no phone call, ect. I called the office, just voice mail. I was wanting them to do these repairs, these are not cheap repairs. I am retired and physically unable. dependable companies are hard to find. read more

Joe and team came out and did a thorough job fixing my broken window. Once he understood the nature of the problem, they came right out and put in a temporary measure and were out the next day to do the repair. They came back the following day and put on the finishing touches including trim and caulk and it looks super. Good quality window and good quality job. Very personable and were very clean while working in the house. No signs of mess like some contractors leave. Little things like not using my electrical cords and not using my trash cans for the debris. I have a couple of other jobs I am considering them for. Thanks, Joe and team! read more

UNIMPRESSED. Car dealers have been using the "Bait and Switch" for years! I needed window sills and some brick molding repaired before sale of the house. I gave measurements, provided pictures and write-up from home inspector and offered an on-site visit for the estimate. Was told no site-visit required and gave me a quote via email. While the quote was a little pricey ($900), I agreed and asked when they could do the work. Received a call on a Monday morning that they could do the work that day. Crew showed up. Stated work was more extensive than they thought and new price would be $2200. Phone calls were initiated by the office attendant who said she only deals with scheduling. Next call was with the job foreman who stated he doesn't deal with pricing, just reports to "the boss" what he sees. Despite request to speak with the owner (boss), no return phone call was made. Last conversation an hour and a half later was with job foreman who stated they were sent to a different job and the "boss" wasn't really interested in doing the job. NOT Recommended. read more
