Mike has been here a long time, as businesses go. Mike likes bikes, but he's no salesman. He's not even particularly nice to his customers. Even the repeat customers. I don't understand it, but he did repair my bike once. He did a good job with that. I just can't come back here any longer because his attitude is almost cartoonishly poor. When talking about Mike's Bikes, you have to talk about Mike. He's also a rough kind of fellow: not exceptionally polite or kind, and he always seems to be resting in his chair amidst dozens of repairs. Safety seems to be Mike's number 1 priority. He'll give you a helmet when you take a bike for a test drive. He's even the type to just go right in and put the helmet on your head for you. Mike also likes Bikes. Jeff P. seems to have interpreted this as "snobbery", but it's just that he really feels like a high quality product is worth the money put into it, and everyone should consider it. Was in the area for an extended business trip, brought my vintage 10-speed to Mike's for some servicing. He came highly recommended by folks on the base. Mike did a quality job, and it was clear that he takes pride in his work. His price for labor + parts was excellent too. I have had several interactions with this business, and none of them have been positive.  I have read the negative reviews here and can confirm that they are true - the owner, Mike, has zero customer service, does not treat potential or repeat customers with any respect, and honestly doesn't seem to even care if you have a question or would like to purchase something from him. He knows that he is the only local game in town and will not do anything to earn your business.  Not only has he been rude to me, but I have witnessed him yelling at his employees both at the retail location and the local BMX track. He has no customer service skills and clearly no desire to learn any at this point in his life. I have asked Mike questions and been met with condescension and rudeness every time. I would rather give my money to Amazon than support a business that doesn't support its customers. I will not be recommending this business to any of my BMX friends or clients, and will actively warn people to stay away. The only reason I can think of that this business is still open is because it is the only BMX shop in the region. IMPORTANT: DO NOT TRUST YOURS OR YOUR CHILDREN PROPERTY TO OWNER and or BUSINESS I bought my son a more or less $800 racing bike and $100 racing gears due to relocation the owner Mike was very encouraging to store his racing bike and gears and trusted the owner to store his racing bike due to relocation. My son and I kept in touch with the owner. My son checked on his racing bike and gears not even once he mentioned to pick up his racing bike and racing gears. My son called a couple of months ago spoke to Mr.Mike to check on his racing bike and gears and broke down after the conversation ended. Mike SOLD his racing bike and racing gears. MIKE SOLD a 10 year old child racing bike and gears without notifying the me or my child and lead us to believe that he is storing his racing bike and racing gears. While the entire time he sold a 10 year old child's racing bike and gears. He then retaliated yet admitting he sold my child's property without notification. Legal action are considered but not in pursuit due to firm belief What goes around comes around lol TRUTH: I hope this does not happend to your child. If you are feint of heart or get offended easily, I would not go here. It is definitely a place for quality bike products, that also comes at a price. Will never return to this place and I hope people reading this won't either. The place is a little junky and disorganized, but that's ok. It kind of had a neat vibe to it. The smell of dog urine everywhere was somewhat off-putting but that can be understood too, if one strictly cares about the service and product. None of that is the end of the world, really....but then there is Mike. I'm not sure what made a person who seems to dislike people so much open up a customer oriented business. Anyway, on to a brief story of the experience my family had in there on February 18th, 2017. Background: My son is 6 and has a bike that he loves and he also has a teeny weeny lil electric dirt bike that he loves just as much. The dirt bike ended up with a flat and we decided to go check out Mike's Bikes to see if he might have a tube of the proper size or maybe even be able to repair the flat in house. We go in and are greeted by 2 giant and sweet German shepherds (these pups, by the way, were the best part of the visit). As we (my wife, son, and I) walk through the store we are 'greeted' by the man himself with a gruff "What?" I proceed to explain to him the situation and you can immediately see it start to go downhill on his face when it was first mentioned that this was for a 6 year old. As soon as the words 'dirt bike' leave my mouth, he cuts me off, mid sentence, with "I won't work on those." Ok that's fine by us, but would he have any tires of the size we need to do the work ourselves. I don't mind that. 3 more times he refuses saying he won't work on motorized bikes. I have to stress, repeatedly, that we don't want him to work on the motorbike. I want him to look at the size of tire/tube, tell me if he has that size in stock, so we can maybe buy a replacement tube. Grudgingly, finally, he agrees to come look at the size of the tire and tell me if he has a size that will fit. On the way out of the door with my son in earshot, he says "well the first thing you can do is to throw this piece of junk away and get him a real bike." So much for my son's Christmas present. Eventually, he sells me a replacement tube, like we wanted in the first place but you could tell it was like pulling teeth for the man, especially when i asked to pay with a card. Anyway, without going off on a further rant about what kind of man this person is, I'm going to stop here. Save your money and deal with someone who can muster even the barest of civility and drive ANYwhere else for your bike needs. read more

I ask him questions about things for the kids but he is a single guy with no kids of his own so I don't think he gets it as far as the kids and family thing - like Lyle S. getting his child a bike for a gift - family stuff. read more

Great place with quality products and service. I've bought 3 mountain bikes from him and he services them all for free, even the one I bought 7 years ago. Mike can come across as a bit rough around the edges, but is a solid bike mechanic who will give you a fair deal. For those who are unaware and think he's a jerk (he can definitely seem that way at a first look), he does a huge amount of charitable work with kids and BMX. Pretty great stuff. If you're after a quality bike (not the $100 walmart brand) and maintenance done right, I highly recommend. If you want a polite greeting, maybe you should look somewhere else. I took my bike there for a tune up. it took them almost two weeks to do it. I took my bike there to get a little adjustment done. I got it back rode it for 20 miles. After 1 mile my wheels is making a clicking noise. Took it back and they did some adjustment. I took it back for a ride and it was still making the same noise. I went to a different place PAC in solomons island and they told me my spokes was to tight and now the spokes nuts are stripped. I would cost me the same to get a new one than for them to fix it.
