TRIGGER WARNING (DON'T LOOK AT OLD REVIEWS. NEW ACTUAL GREAT HONEST MECHANIC HERE)…read more The registration and smog is due on my 2004 Mazda next week (i know it's old but with minivan prices today, i know what i have and don't want to give it up that easily), but with the check engine light BLINKING+ other problems I knew no way I would get smog passed. I called around a few places (some others I found on yelp with promising reviews), but they were booked until the next week, and registration being due in a few days, I decided to drive down Elk Grove Blvd a little bit more and I saw the Complete Performance sign nestled next to a gas station in Old Town Elk Grove. I parked and who would be Ben came out right away and asked me how he could help. I told him everything wrong (flashing check engine light, rough idling, jerky transmission, oil burning smell). He walked me into the office, took my info and said he's get on it RIGHT AWAY! I wasn't sold yet and was thinking about just getting his diagnosis then moving on and trying again with another mechanic, but once I gave him the keys (and getting ready to call an uber to get back home about a mile away) , he said "do you need a ride home?" That's when I was like okay, wow I'm going with this guy, he does have some hospitality and availability. Quite the rarity! He called me a few hours later and mentioned I had bad spark plugs and a bad intake boot (and one other thing I don't remember). I remember seeing his labor rate on the wall in the office and I even ended up calling around and was relieved that his rate was the market rate (California is generally just high with this). Also, He would be DONE by end of business tomorrow (a 1 day turnaround was music to my ears right now!) which means I could get this registered and passed for smog before the registration expires. After initial estimate, I was worried, not because I thought it was high (because I knew the other labor rates in the area would cost me the same for labor+parts), but because the car was so old. I wanted to give up on this car and just file for planned non operation. He stopped, listened and worked out a deal with me that would include a guaranteed smog pass after repairs were made + a warranty so I would be covered for these issues in the future. I said okay and made the deal with him. He identified another issue with my fuel injector later on and called me The irony is that I didn't even see the bad reviews on here which were from years ago by an older mechanic. There was no way that these could be about Ben, who's the new guy in town here) and sure enough, that is the exact case. Ben is unfortunately having to work against 4+ year old reviews about some other guy named Bobby and that's not fair. I'm here to set the record straight and give the 5 stars he truly deserves. Joe embodies the true American spirit, work…read moreethic, fair, humble, can do attitude etc. The work he's done has been top notch, zero complaints about the actual work, honest diagnostic, and cost of parts and labor. The issue that I have with him is his professionalism, scheduling a time slot and sticking to it and not having to hear excuses about something else that came up. What you do is call the client and either cancel or reschedule. Give them the option to choose a different way to resolve the situation they are in. You don't just leave someone hanging who is in need of this critical service while you decide when you will get back to them if you decide to get back to them at all. Very disappointed with my recent dealings with him. I expected way better from as some else here said the last of a rare breed. Just a heads up to anyone else who might be considering him as an option make sure you have a plan B and are extremely patient. Good thing I am in a place where I can control my temper but to be honest... Anyway i'll quit while i'm ahead and haven't said anything insulting and low class but trust me I could. The silver lining is that in a way it has forced me to become more resilient and self reliant and some of the issues I was having that I was gladly will to pay him to fix i've managed to purchase the parts and tools and fix them myself.

Kniesel did not provide a solution and instead requested $900+ to fix the problem that their mechanic created. I called 15+ mechanic shops that night, the only one to respond was Jon. He offered to take a look that same night, despite it being after 7 pm when I called him. John met with me the following day, diagnosed the problem correctly, explained what the other mechanic had done, and offered me several possible solutions to rectify the issue. He went out of his way to 4 different auto stores to find the correct parts needed for the job (Helicoil Timesert). He worked diligently for hours, stayed with me to ensure every detail was covered, and even followed up with me the following day to ensure there was no residual leakage. And to top it off, his price was extremely reasonable for the work done and about one-third the price quoted by Kniesel (again to fix a problem that they themselves created). Jon could have easily taken advantaged of the situation, knowing that other mechanics were not open on Sunday, and charged me much more -- this speaks to his honesty and strong ethics as a person, a quality that is not seen in many others in the industry (i.e. Kniesel). His workmanship and attention to detail is evident in the outcome, as there was no leak the following day after testing for many hours. I cannot recommend Jon highly enough, and will be referring all friends / family / co-workers in the Sacramento area to call him if they have any car issues. He is a rare find amongst mechanics -- hard-working, honest, and reliable. Thank you again Jon!
