TRIGGER WARNING (DON'T LOOK AT OLD REVIEWS. NEW ACTUAL GREAT HONEST MECHANIC HERE) The registration and smog is due on my 2004 Mazda next week (i know it's old but with minivan prices today, i know what i have and don't want to give it up that easily), but with the check engine light BLINKING+ other problems I knew no way I would get smog passed. I called around a few places (some others I found on yelp with promising reviews), but they were booked until the next week, and registration being due in a few days, I decided to drive down Elk Grove Blvd a little bit more and I saw the Complete Performance sign nestled next to a gas station in Old Town Elk Grove. I parked and who would be Ben came out right away and asked me how he could help. I told him everything wrong (flashing check engine light, rough idling, jerky transmission, oil burning smell). He walked me into the office, took my info and said he's get on it RIGHT AWAY! I wasn't sold yet and was thinking about just getting his diagnosis then moving on and trying again with another mechanic, but once I gave him the keys (and getting ready to call an uber to get back home about a mile away) , he said "do you need a ride home?" That's when I was like okay, wow I'm going with this guy, he does have some hospitality and availability. Quite the rarity! He called me a few hours later and mentioned I had bad spark plugs and a bad intake boot (and one other thing I don't remember). I remember seeing his labor rate on the wall in the office and I even ended up calling around and was relieved that his rate was the market rate (California is generally just high with this). Also, He would be DONE by end of business tomorrow (a 1 day turnaround was music to my ears right now!) which means I could get this registered and passed for smog before the registration expires. After initial estimate, I was worried, not because I thought it was high (because I knew the other labor rates in the area would cost me the same for labor+parts), but because the car was so old. I wanted to give up on this car and just file for planned non operation. He stopped, listened and worked out a deal with me that would include a guaranteed smog pass after repairs were made + a warranty so I would be covered for these issues in the future. I said okay and made the deal with him. He identified another issue with my fuel injector later on and called me The irony is that I didn't even see the bad reviews on here which were from years ago by an older mechanic. There was no way that these could be about Ben, who's the new guy in town here) and sure enough, that is the exact case. Ben is unfortunately having to work against 4+ year old reviews about some other guy named Bobby and that's not fair. I'm here to set the record straight and give the 5 stars he truly deserves. Thank you for everything Ben, I now have a couple more years at least before I need to buy a new $50,000+ minivan for my family. read more

This place is seriously a bad and racist place to bring your vehicle to get repairs and I found out in the end that the owner is just a racist man and throw jabs at you to get your blood pumping so he can make an excuse to not keep his word....I brought my car in and they over charged me then when the repairs was done it was done wrong and not straight...I complained soon as the job was done and I was told to come back and they will fix it the right way and everything will be fine but when I came back I was told he will not do it unless I paid double even though they created the problem with the car just because he said he been thinking and don't wanna work for free even though they messed it up and told me to come back....then when I start complaining back he said a few racist things to get me going then said if I don't leave he will have me arrested when they messed up my car that came with a warranty...I showed him the warranty papers and he said I don't care or don't care to fix the problem his business created so the police was called and he still lied and said racists stuff under his breath so I hope and prey nobody else get treated like me and my kids even vehicle was treated at this business and if you are a color person he really doesn't want your business and will get over on you and mess your car up and then won't even fix it so if I could give this business 5 negative stats I would because there not for the people they are only for themselves and does does bad work and business and most of all this is a racist place so don't go there for repairs read more

I'm highly disappointed!! The sequence of events that has brought me to conclude I may be in for a big battle regarding repairs that were made to my CL550 by Complete Performance. I'm finding out through another technician the work that was done by complete Performance has failed thinking they were good people I went back since I'm still under their service warranty as stated on the invoice. Bobby insisted the problem is not the work they did even though the failed part in question the code indicates exactly that. Bobby claims it's "fine and that the check engine light is now off". The check engine light came back on blinking as soon as I drove off. it turned out all he did would have been simply to reset it. At this point my trust is all gone. I think he sees me as an idiot. Ben was quite nice and cordial when we arrived and explained the problem we we're having with the vehicle. That was until he was later challenged to explain to what extent the technician actually put in the work to diagnose the problem, $165.00 later. May be an option for basic smog, oil change, and similar services; not for specialized repairs. Lesson learned...painfully. Good for those positive reviewers; only wish I would have had such an experience. read more

I dont know how my review keeps getting taken down from this place...BUT...THEY ARE A SCAM!!! Beware they unplug things on your car and try and call you with th bad news and want to authorize over the phone. They didnt expect me to show up to look at what they were talking about. Some of the hoses he unpluged made my truck run funny when I started it. And it was fine when I drove it there. I looked under the hood and he had unplugged a breather hose and a sensor on the intake. Something they told me over the phone would be a few hundred dollars to fix. I plugged it back in and it was fine. You coukd tell he just unhooked it because it exposed the clean are around where it was before...What a scam of a company. read more

I have had several bad experiences at this shop, but I've kept going back because 1) "It can't possibly happen again" and 2) it is right across the street from my neighborhood. (May 31st, 2019) I took my car in to replace the radiator and got it back yesterday. It was still running hot and I went back today to talk to them about it and within 15 seconds, the owner is telling me that I probably blew the head gasket from before when the engine overheated, and that there wasn't anything they could do. Mind you, he has no issue taking my $330($50 of which was for coolant. Wtf?) the day before when he knew all of this information. Straight up predatory business. Now I'm $400 in the hole and my car is still broken. Sure would have been nice to put that sum towards something productive. Back in 2016, I had a Hyundai Elantra that had the engine fail. I took it to this shop, and after ordering an new engine and having it shipped to the shop, they tell me they "misdiagnosed" the issue and that it would be an additional $1,500. I really had no other options and went ahead with it. Driving out of there, they were telling me the engine would be good for 60,000 miles. The car was fixed. Well less than two years later, in 2018, the timing belt went bad and completely destroyed the inside of the new engine I paid for. Only 20,000 miles later. I have now been through 5 cars since 2015 and this shop has had a big hand in that fact. There was another time where they did wrong by my dad(may he rest in peace) as well but I can't remember the specifics. This shop has been an absolute plague on my life. Never again. read more

I was treated well, and fairly, at Complete Performance. Bobby seems to manage the shop well and gets the repairs done as quickly as he can with his crew. From what I can see, he has good communication with his customers, and a good relationship with his mechanics. I had a "noise" in the front end, and he addressed one part of it directly, and diagnosed the other part of it (and attempted to fix it). The second part of the fix was actually covered by a dealer recall, so I took it to Ford to fix/replace. I know just enough about cars to know that Bobby wasn't trying to game me. He even absorbed some of the cost of additional diagnostics without complaint. If I hadn't gotten a "free" transmission from the dealer, I would have finished the work with Bobby and CP in a flash. The contrast was amazing. The dealer communicated poorly, if at all, flubbed the parts order by forgetting to order ancillary parts, made excuses for delaying the repair, forgot to plug in the air conditioning system when restoring the transmission, and took a full two weeks to complete. If Bobby did it, I would have had the car in working condition in two DAYS. I will always return to Bobby and Complete Performance in the future. read more

The service at Complete Performance is a cut above the big box shop. The owner himself will sit with you to carefully make a note and address of all of your vehicle concerns. The staff is 100% professional and extremely efficient . The many years of experience and knowledge is a plus. We were needing a new valve cover due to a leak. We received a complete vehicle inspection at no cost and a plan on how best to prepare for future vehicle needs. In the end, we also agreed to replace worn out spark plugs and the plenum gasket. The prices are extremely fair, and the labor time was within the estimate. We are happy customers, and we are repeat customers. Wow... Both of our cars needed service, very stressful trying to figure out how we were going to balance our day and weekend without a vehicle....Bobby, professional, friendly and as cool as a cucumber, smiled, and assured us we would have one car by days end. Car # 2 would need to be diagnosed. Car 1 done by 12:Noon for $120 less than the estimate. Car # 2 - done by 5:PM!! no way...They fixed the issue for a lot less than I had feared and did a complete "physical" all for a very reasonable rate! Lastly, one of our prized cars needed some minimal body/paint work. Before I could finish my question - Bobby, walked me to his office, gave me a name and number. When I called them and gave them Bobby's name they saw me that afternoon, kept the car and said I will have it back in less than 4 days. I'm on the fence about this place. I've had good work for they have a good mechanic, but you absolutely need to check your bill and make sure there are no extra charges, like their labor is $100 an hour, but I was charged $200 for 45 minute labor costs. read more

But NOW!!! You must trade in your tricked out, tapped out gas tank for a "POSSIBLY" refilled cannister by an unfeeling and uncaring minion peddling for the Blue Rhinos! UNTIL I DISCOVERED THAT THE 76 ON ELK GROVE BLVD WILL HAPPILY AND HUMBLY FULFILL YOUR ENERGY NEEDS MUCH CHEAPER AND MORE ACCURATELY! (Until the reasonable time of 8pm - 7 days per week!) DO NOT GO HERE FOR SMOG. We came here a year ago and the smog passed fine now we come and after nearly 2 hours sitting in the rain the car passes everything but the visual because our Camay has a corolla cat which is the same part. So he quotes us $400 for a new one and offers no charge to redo the smog to keep you from going somewhere else. This should have been caught last year. UPDATE: AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. We took our car somewhere else to have the cat fixed and surprise they quoted us $200 best part we didnt need one the guys at muffler tech (great place) wouldnt put one on because we didnt need one and showed us what THEY MESSED UP. Called to see about a SMOG (about 3pm) was told the SMOG tech has left for the day but anytime tomorrow would not be a problem. I explained that I would be there about 330 and he said fine. Today I drive up at 330 and was told that I was too late. I explained that I had called yesterday and he said well for any other car but your will take 2 hours and its already 330. So I went right down the street and was told no problem it takes about 45 mins for a SMOG for that vehicle, that most cars take about 30 mins and with the year of this vehicle it might take another 15. I understand not wanting to work or work on a particular vehicle but you don't lie to a customer and if you lie about this what else will you lie about. In a business (Auto Repair) where honesty is incredibly important this business just doesn't have it. As for taking your car to a local business this is not the right one to go to. My day off on monday turned south when on my way to the mall on 99. AAA picked me up and recommended me Complete Performance telling me they were AAA approved. Pulling into the lot was a bit overwhelming seeing how full the parking lot was but I guess that means they're just staying busy, right? Hopping out I was greeted by Austin. Even though seemingly busy the diagnosing time was quick as i got a call within the first hour while hanging out at the Boba shop down the street(check them out if you haven't!) Anyways, Austin followed up with me and gave me a couple of options on ways to fix my car. I went on with the repairs, my car needing a fuel pump and filter, i wasn't sure on if id get my car back within the same day for work but rest assured Austin and the mechanics worked their touch to get the parts delivered and installed to get me back to work the next day! Super friendly and helpful here. The owners and Austin always made sure i was comfortable they even vacuumed my car and washed my windows! Definitely coming back in the future for all my oil changes and anything else that pops up! read more

Went to Complete Performance for smog checks for both of my vehicles. Bobby was really nice and accommodating to schedule my appts at the end of the day. My newer vehicle passed no problem. But my 10-year old SUV didn't pass because the system needed to reset itself. Bobby told me to come back after driving it for at least a couple of weeks and they would retest it for free. Time flies so it was almost 2 months when I took it back and he was true to his word! Only charged me for the certificate on the retest and it passed. I'll definitely use them again for smog checks. read more

Bobby is friendly and honest. I first came here for a smog service and I was in and out within an hour. On a separate occasion, I came here when my car did that Banshee scream when turned on. The Banshee was actually a loose fan belt. Bobby fixed the fan belt at a reasonable price. A week later the Banshee was back, but Bobby said to just bring it back and he tightened it a bit further (at no cost) and now I enjoy the sound of silence when turning on my car. I have had work done on my car here a couple times now and I have to say my experience was great. I do most of my own work so I know my car and know what exactly needs to be done.
