Avoid Mike the Printer at all costs. His customer service is an absolute disgrace, and his attitude is outright toxic. I've dealt with Mike, the owner, multiple times via email, and he consistently responds with insulting, condescending rants--in writing! Even when I was trying to give him my business for printing services, he berated me without provocation. Shockingly, he's proud of his unprofessional behavior and sees no issue with treating customers like garbage. His print work? Mediocre at best--nothing you can't get elsewhere with better quality. After his latest outburst, I canceled my order and took my business to another printer. I sent a request for a quote online and within 15 minutes received a rough estimate which turned out to be the best one out of all the ones I've gathered. For the past month I've been sending my designs out to Mike and Bill and they turned out quick and quality work! There was a mistake on one print piece, and because they didn't catch it at first they re-ran it for free! They accept cash, checks and credit cards as payment. Mike the Printer does quality work at very reasonable prices. I would've spent the same amount for only half the work done at other places. I read the older Yelp reviews regarding the owner's "attitude." I didn't experience any negative treatment at all, so other people probably just don't know how to handle sarcasm. I have been working with this company for about a little over a year now. They were close in proximity to my office when I searched, so I decided to give them a try. I started with business cards and loved the quality and suggested changes to improve the layout. I have ordered many sets of business cards for my staff since then. Pricing is always competitive, quality is great, and the turnaround time is wonderful. I have also ordered items for special events. I had a calendar for our company made last year, and the results were fantastic. I've also had event programs made for an annual event we host. both times, the quality, turnaround and price has been wonderful. I was referred to Mike by a long-time offset printer friend who told me that he did the best digital print work in The Valley. Turned out that she was absolutely right. I've been going to Mike for 3-4 years now and, if for some reason I move to the West Side, I will still go to him. First off, his print quality, available formats, outputs and bindery options are top notch. I've been in marketing and graphic design since the days of running SyQuest disks to Kinkos, praying they wouldn't fail and I have never found better. True statement. This is as close as you can get to offset. Second, the service and his staff's willingness to work with you on timing, quantities, etc. is also a plus. In graphic design, there is always a client...internal or external, and things can change on a whim at the last minute. Mike has always been super-flexible and has always come up big for me. It's good to know you're working with someone who is going to make you look good. Lastly, I really like Mike. I just read through some of the reviews here and I am not entirely sure what people are complaining about. He's funny, very knowledgeable and does great work on time. Mike the Printer has state-of-the-art equipment for all your printing needs. They are not the least expensive, but the quality of their work and the broad range of what they can do is outstanding. I have also enjoyed fast turnaround, including a banner I needed being printed overnight. Mike and his staff are printing professionals with a clean, organized modern office. Mike is a unique guy. I hesitate to mention it, especially as he has NEVER complained about it, nor flaunted it, but when you support Mike the Printer, you are supporting a business owned/operated by a person with a disability. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I ordered my sign via email. I emailed the basic art, emailed him a confirmation regarding the size of the sign and the price that he quoted. Everything seemed fine until I went in to pick up the sign. He attempted to more than double the price! When I complained he got really nasty. He sent me the following email: "It always amazes me how cheap you real estate people are. You get paid huge amounts of money for doing little more than driving people around in your car and showing them homes. You asked for one size sign, you then changed it to a bigger size and didn't want to pay more for it. You asked for a very simple sign with your name, picture and logo. You asked us to make changes and you walk out with a very professional sign that was far more complex than you originally requested. I am sorry that we couldn't do anything about making you less ugly. It is my hope that you will trip and fall over than sign and crush it. He sent me additional emails that were even worse! I've been sending work to Mike the Printer for a decade, since he was in that little crackerbox over on Hayvenhurst with one copy machine. He has grown his business tremendously, and offers all kinds of printing, banners, displays, binding, folding, scoring, UV coating, etc. He has ALWAYS done terrific work, promptly and at sharp prices. I'm a graphic designer, and I send him files that are ready to print. So Mike and his staff knock my files out on their state of the art equipment. They are NOT a retail shop! If you need your wedding invitations or flyers designed, go to Kinkos and talk to some junior college schmoo and waste their time. Mike has no tolerance for idiots, and not much bedside manner either, but that's part of the excitement of going in there. You never know what the F might happen! Mike really saved the day on our nightmare of a printing project the other day. I was in charge of printing programs for our non-profit even that was happening. I received the files the night before they were supposed to go to print, and the next morning I sent them out right away to the printer I had previously spoken with and gotten a quote from. The printer I talked to was a huge jerk and when I sent him the files, he proceeded to say that there had been a misunderstanding over the phone when I had explained the project to him. I told him I needed inserts over the phone, and then he goes on to tell me that I DIDNT tell him I wanted inserts. I can tell when there has been legitimate miscommunication and when someone is just trying to take advantage of me. And this was definitely the latter. So then this guy gives me a new quote for $230 MORE than the original quote. I told him to forget it, and then frantically called every printer I could find online to see who was open on the weekends (did I mention it was Friday and our even was Sunday?). **I've just realized I need to see if that guy has a yelp profile too and write a review for him... To make matters worse, the files I was given were not print-quality (unfortunately our graphic designer--based out of SF--was working with very limited resources and had to use old jpg files as the layout of her design). So on top of trying to find a new printer that could give me a decent rush price, I was trying to get a hold of the graphic designer to tell her I needed new files. One printer I called said he wasnt open on the weekends, but he told me to try Mike's place. So I called Mike and explained my situation, explained what I needed, and he gave me a quote. He asked BY FAR the best price for the print job, and even said it was ok that I probably wouldn't have suitable files for him until Saturday morning. He was honest with me when I sent him the bad files and he said that they wouldn't come out very well. I was able to send new files on Saturday, and Mike said that these ones should work fine...so he went ahead with the job. Unfortunately I wasn't able to go down there myself later that day to pick up the programs and say thank you. But my boss went over, picked them up, and told me they came out great. So in the end we got the programs done by Saturday around 3pm...with just enough time to spare for our event. Mike was very helpful, honest and his prices and services can't be beat. I will definitely be using him again for any future print jobs I might have, and I will recommend him to anyone else who is looking for a printshop. Thanks again Mike!! read more

I have to write this review after seeing what horrible responses Mike is writing to people's negative reviews. I too, an actual customer, encountered Mike's harsh personality and lack of expected customer service skills. The other employees were very nice and helpful, which is why by design it benefits this company that Mike is not who you first encounter when walking in. He is harsh in his retorts and straight-forward, but more than that he is actually rude. It makes me wonder why he chose to work in a business where customer service does matter and whether he likes it or not, personality of the representatives reflect upon the company's reputation. But I would venture to say the most disturbing part of this is his response to the negative reviews that are listed below. And this is no ordinary negative, we are talking personal insults and hateful remarks (some posted over a year after the original review). If in fact he disagrees with the validity of their comments, why defend so desperately this long after the fact? Anyway, the product was fine and the prices were fair, but unfortunately the personality of this owner would keep me from using this company again or from referring it to anyone I know. The owner's quote: "There is nothing in any moral or ethical law that says I have to be nice to people. His staff is great and although some say Mike is a little difficult to deal with, I personally have never really had a problem with him. He has always worked with me, kept is word on pricing and completion dates and turned out very high quality work. I unfortunately, have had over the 35 years I have had my shop had to deal with some of the customers who have written reviews on Yelp! Couldn't have been better (or nicer!). My primary service provider was out sick, and I wasn't feeling good about dealing w his back-up. It's Friday afternoon, and I have a flight out on Monday. Yikes! Despite the one harsh review (seriously, dude, what was going on with you that day?), I drove over with my flash drive, and walked right in. I left an hour later with a 4-page brochure that is gorgeous! Mike took the time to move two pages a couple millimeters (I didin't notice, and didn't want them to make a fuss - but before I protested, he was done), and suggested a paper stock that was more substantial than the sample I brought (another good move). I had brought magazines, so just waited for the job. I was impressed they took the time for my very small job. They had other projects going on, and it was a Friday afternoon. They had at least 8 phone calls while I was there, and 4 or 5 customers come in. The treatment was nothing but professional. Oh - and my cost was substantially less than I had been quoted elsewhere, even with the rush job. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to use these fantastic flyers to go get some work! read more
