He was hired to remove a failed tub surround, waterproof the walls properly, install a new bathtub, and retile the surround. We gave him the opportunity to correct our concerns and sent pictures before writing this review, but he refused, insisted the work was acceptable, and said he was finished with the job.
Some of the issues we encountered:
* The gap between the top of the tile and the drywall was filled with grout that extends about an inch up onto the painted drywall instead of being finished properly. The grout is uneven and cannot simply be painted over.
* The drywall around the window was damaged during demolition. Rather than repairing it with drywall compound, the damaged areas were filled with thick, lumpy grout.
* The gap underneath the bathtub was filled with grout instead of a flexible sealant. Even a small tear in the existing linoleum was repaired with grout.
* There are visible RedGard splatters on the window screen, and the screen was punctured during the job. We notified Tim immediately, but he declined to replace it.
* The tile around the window is uneven. On one side the tile now overlaps part of the window frame, and the window ledge sits higher than before, making it difficult or impossible to remove the sliding window as we could previously.
* Some of the grout between the tiles has noticeable high and low spots.
* Our fairly new toilet was scratched during the project. These are scratches in the porcelain, not surface scuffs.
* Additional dents and chips were left in the painted drywall that we now have to repair ourselves.
* If you zoom in on the photos, you can also see pink/red RedGard specks scattered throughout the grout along the top of the tile.
The newly installed bathtub also appears to be warped. The floor noticeably rises in the center, slopes to one side at the back, and has visible long ripples. It does not feel as solid or stable as the original tub. It's a defective tub.
After I posted my initial review, Tim did not respond by text to the concerns I had already documented with photos to him. Instead, he sent a text accusing his wife of bashing him online, repeatedly called my husband, who chose not to engage. After my husband blocked his number, Tim located and called my husband's workplace asking his employees if he was on the job so he could come speak with him in person. We found this completely inappropriate.
It actually would have been better if the damaged areas around the window had been left alone. We could have easily repaired the torn drywall with drywall compound or a small drywall patch. Instead, the damaged areas were packed with thick, lumpy grout that extends up onto the inside of the window frame and onto the painted drywall. Now, instead of a simple drywall repair, we'll have to spend hours carefully chipping and scraping out hardened grout without damaging the surrounding tile, drywall, or window frame.
One final concern: our landlord is an elderly senior. She initially said she wanted to keep the existing bathtub because it was still functional. After repeated persuasion about replacing it, she agreed to purchase a new tub. Ironically, the original tub felt much sturdier than the replacement that was installed.
I'll post photos so others can judge the workmanship for themselves. Had we been the homeowners paying directly for this project, we would have not paid until these issues corrected. We simply expected professional workmanship and accountability from a licensed contractor. I have more photos, but I was limited to 20.
