Ordered 3 things. - Grilled octopus-too salty but tender. I would like to have a good balance of salt ro rich nature. - Pork Belly was a bit fatty. The corn salsa balanced out the flavor. -Seafood Paella came out 30 minutes later. We were done eating the first 2 dishes. Unfortunately, the paella was sub par, it lacked seafood flavor, and was very bland. Waited 30 minutes for this order but seen other tables bringing this dish out. Is it just us? No apologies from the server either. Im guessing it was because they did a rush job to fulfill the order. Or was it forgotten??! We had 3 orders!! The atmosphere was great, but when you rush preparations on complex orders, the quality of the food can be disappointing. Sorry but we wont be coming back. Temp room water was meh as well. read more

I've visited 4 times, and finally I'm getting around to reviewing this amazing restaurant. Marin desperately needed a Spanish restaurant, and Mijo fills that need deliciously! I've tried almost everything on the menu. The standouts for me are: * eggplant chips, a huge portion with honey and chilis- so yummy. *the paella for 2, perfect with the socarrat (crust on the bottom) *both scallop dishes *the stuffed piquillo peppers. I haven't had an unremarkable dish yet. The cocktails are creative, unique and delicious. The staff is welcoming, and knowledgable. The atmosphere is fantastic, with lovely and lively decor. Each time I've been it's been really crowded, but somehow it's not noisy- nice work on the acoustics Mijo team! This place is great if you want to have a quiet dinner with one or two others, or if you want to go with a big crowd-They can easily accommodate large parties! If you haven't been- GO! I can't wait for my 5th visit! read more

Great atmosphere and many dishes were terrific. Server was very sloppy, always upselling, and didn't attend to us nearly as well as the food runner and busser. Most tapas were ok although patatas bravas were not Spanish at all. Just bland oven roasted potatoes. Croquetas were ok but two batches were completely different cook and color. Tagine was so mushy, oddly spiced and a total wreck. Paella was ok but there was no socarrat, flavor was way too light, and the rice as mushy. I felt embarrassed for the restaurant honestly. Most other dishes were fine not amazing. We have been there before it seems they are getting sloppy and just producing formula food and turn tables now. Sad. read more

This is a very pleasant Spanish restaurant next to a wonderful bookstore. The Spanish wines that they serve by the glass are excellent. We had two starters, one of which, the grilled octopus, was extraordinarily delicious, maybe the second best I've ever had. The wood fired preparation of it along with little potatoes and vegetables was just excellent. The smoked scallops tartare was spicy and very lemony, and was good, but not extraordinary. The fire roasted chicken main dish was also really excellent. The portions of everything were large enough that we wished we had ordered only one main dish plus the starters. Service was attentive and pleasant. The restaurant was half empty on a Sunday night. I hope it survives because I would very much enjoy going there again. read more

The service was attentive however the food was overtly seasoned. It wasn't just one dish but all 5 of the dishes that we ordered had more salt than I felt comfortable consuming for the night. Not sure if it was the cuisine standard however I would try the restaurant again (making sure I ask for less salt ). Idk I am one of those people that lean towards less is more. I also know Marin doesn't have many options for Spanish food! It's was however difficult to take in the full experience of the restaurant due to the food, yet each of the dishes did present tasty. Went to Mijo for the first time tonight. The restaurant space is beautiful. A lot of time and money,I'm sure went into the remodel. The service was very good. Our server was very upbeat and helpful. The cocktails my wife and I had were well made and tasty. The Market Salad was very nice. But, the paella, which was quite flavorful, had flaws that need to be corrected. The clams and mussels are so overcooked, that they have been incinerated to nothing. The advertised chicken that supposed to be in the dish was hardly noticeable, might be nice to include whole legs and thighs. We will be back though, and try the rest of the menu as time goes by. read more

From the owners of the ever-popular Guest House restaurant in Kentfield comes the new Mijo restaurant, housed in the former Mosley's restaurant space in Corte Madera, next to Book Passage. This spot offers an eclectic tapas menu, an assortment of salads, and main courses or large plates. On my recent visit, our group sampled their caesar salad, which had an excellent dressing. It was accompanied by white anchovies and large, soft croutons, which grew even tastier as they absorbed the dressing. The lamb lolipops were flavorful and prepared medium rare. The half chicken is to die for and definitely large enough to share. Next to us, a couple ordered the paella, and he remarked that it tasted better than it did when he had visited Spain. David, one of the regular bartenders from Guest House, was bartending on our visit, and it was actually his first night at the new restaurant. He tackled a busy bar scene with professionalism and a good sense of humor and conversation. They have only been open for a few weeks and will only improve. The interior space is bright and well-designed, with comfy leather barstools. There are booths and an outside dining space, which will prove popular in the summer. Happy Hour is available daily until about 5:00 pm, with an assortment of tapas, beers, and cocktail specials. A full bar, a significant wine list, and some great specialty cocktails exist. We were excited to try a Spanish Tapas restaurant while staying nearby. We did a takeout order and found the food to be very underwhelming. Three small scallops that were definitely no longer fresh (threw part of the order away). Same with the Octopus. Was persuaded to try their flatbread of the day (vegetables) and it has poor texture and a sickeningly sweet taste - not edible. And on top of it we were overcharged. When picking up the order I asked if a service charge or tip were already included and was told no so I added 20%. Turns out a service charge or tip had already been added so I ended up paying an extra 40% for a terrible meal. Shame on that server. read more

I was super exited to see a new tapas/spanish restaurant in Corte Madera! My fiancé & I went for dinner - the drinks were great, especially the sangria. We ordered the grilled caesar salad, and noticed there was anchovy dressing in the description so asked if it tasted very anchovy (as I don't like caesar to taste too fishy). The waiter said no it doesn't take like anchovy at all, although the dish came out & there were actual full anchovies on/in the salad! The waiter clearly did not know what he was talking about.. not the best first experience at this new restaurant. read more

Here we go again, highly touted Restauraunt that falls flat. The shellfish in the Paella was microscopic and over cooked, slivers of chicken and sausage and way over salted. The lamb was overcooked. Chicken oversalted. Octopus was very good. Service mediocre. These overhyped Restauraunts are springing up all over; nice decor, mediocre food, overpriced menus. Not worth going back. read more

Amazing!! The grilled Cesar salad is unlike any salad I've ever had and definitely the best. The croquettes were a 10/10 and the rotisserie chicken was probably the best chicken I've ever had. Such a unique experience to cut it yourself and the flavor was all throughout the bite and not just on the skin. Great vibes and great staff!! If you're a foodie this place is a must. read more

We've been here twice and my husband would go once a week if I let him. We've had seared scallops, crab cakes, grilled Spanish caesar, grilled asparagus, patatas bravas, mijo mordeduras, and cured Spanish meats. The crab cakes were undistinguished but everything else was bright, flavorful and perfectly done. Any oh my oh my, the cocktails! With the Spanish martini at the top of the list. Service has been exceptional. On the first visit they didn't have their espresso machine or porto yet, so they comped us sherry and coffee. For years, I've been whining about getting a good Spanish restaurant in Marin and the Whine Fairy finally granted my wish! read more

Three stars but I think eventually once they've worked the kinks out it will be four! Papas bravas were ok, not incredible. The pinxos were nothing special - avocado sardine one wasn't great, mushroom one was good, jambon one had cold meat on it like as in just came out of the fridge really cold. Artichoke was just ok, I think they went for nice presentation but it didn't really make eating it very easy and honestly probably wouldn't order again. Stuffed peppers with short rib were the highlight of the meal! They were really great, would definitely come back for those. I wish there were four peppers rather than three! Our drinks came out ~after~ all the food came out which was definitely disappointing. Ambiance was lovely and the decor is great. We will definitely be back. They didn't have the wine I wanted (we're all out) so they gave me a more expensive option and charged me for it. In my experience if they are out of the wine I want and it's less expensive, they will just give that price and the other wine. Service was good. We'll definitely be back but I don't think the food is worth the prices - yet! "Yet" as in I think they will get there once they've been open for more than just one month. read more

I hardly ever leave reviews. This place is really good, and not just Marin-good either. I ordered half the menu with me and my kids (ages 10-15). Our 2nd time. Lively, nice space, good bar and innovative cocktails. Service is spotty, slow. Our waiter very nice but didn't see much of him. Had pinxtos (?) appetizers and grilled artichoke. All small and nothing memorable. Had paella x 2 - the first time a bit dry, the second time drier yet. Chicken, shrimp, andouille sausage even the rice was dry. The waiter comp'd us on the paella which was very thoughtful. We will try it again in a year of it survives. read more

The restaurant had only been open a few days when we ate there, so growing pains are to be expected. Staff was uniformly very nice but frequently confused by what was on the menu. The wine list had some overly expensive, but not overly great wines, a few reasonable add mixed, which will lead to confusion. We had paella Which was very flavorful, but the clams and muscles were about the size of my index fingernail, and tiny scraps of sausage and chicken. I will say that the shrimp were visible, but the heads were included for flavor and took up a fair bit of space in the dish. Caesar salad was delicious, but included one beautiful heart of Romaine and one that has seen better days. I plan to try it again in a month or two after it's gotten its footing, read more

Hot horrible, but meh. Utterly charmless , with loud 70's music , fighting against the basketball on the big screen. Distracting. The potato's were well cooked , and we had pulpo, but the dish was luke warm. Asked if we could get one of the pixtos (sp) without the meat - being we are veg) but were told no, no substitutions. Their charred bread was actually quite good, but not good enough to ever want to return. Did i mention it was charmless? There are a series of 4 two top tables at the east end of the restaurant, and we were escorted to them and were seated at one of the middle tables, pretty close to each other, before we sat i asked the receptionist if we could have one of the end ones , so we would not be surrounded by other diners, and could possibly hear each other. We were told no, the two end tables were for 3 people. Well to end your surprise, by the end of our meal, the two outside tables were filled , not with three people but two. This pisses me off. Lastly, you would have no inclination that this was a Spanish restaurant, not the ambiance ,nor the music. Maybe the key is sitting in the tented annex. Much quieter. By and large . . .
