Stewart, an incredibly kind & knowledgeable man helped us. He was quick to give us information to fully inform our purchases. We need screws to assemble a couple of cedar fence panels and he let us know that we'd need stainless steel screws because other metals react with the tannins in cedar and can leave black "drip" marks under the screws over time. Little things like that mean A LOT to me. The store itself is brightly lit, very clean and very well stocked for any project you might be doing. They are properly set up for the social distancing we all must be doing now. {{*A big thank you and virtual hug to Stewart*}}

The store took my name and #, said the repair person would call me. Four dales later a guy named Jose, calls me and starts the conversation off with excuses as to why he had not 'already called me'. At that point I did not care about his excuses, I just wanted to move forward and get the fixture repaired. We made an appointment for the next day, 2:30 PM. He never showed. At 3:30, one hour after our scheduled appointment I texted him and he just said sorry I am in NJ now, and said tomorrow same time. I said NO, I don't think you would be good to do business with. He then texted me that he was two blocks away from me, which I highly doubted. I repeated myself that I did not sense we were a good match to do business with and that I will look for someone else. We found Sawkill while looking for reclaimed barnwood for our renovated kitchen. We visited the…read moresmall showroom in Bklyn and Alan told us all about the wood and showed us samples. We ordered the reclaimed oak planks in various widths, skip-planed, which he explained would allow some smoothness and some of the rough distressing. It took a couple of months for them to source the wood and deliver it to us in LI, but it arrived as promised. Our contractor installed it and my husband and I sanded and finished it using Waterlox Trutone natural sealer and finish. You don't have to sand it, but we wanted it a little lighter after testing the finish. We decided to fill in holes with epoxy, but in hindsight didn't need to, and it was a lot of work to sand it smooth. Otherwise it was pretty easy. We LOVE LOVE LOVE our floors! The wood is gorgeous and so unique. Alan knows all about reclaimed wood and even wrote a book about it, which we bought. He kept in touch, answered all our questions and helped us with advice on finishing. Highly recommend Sawkill and Alan!
