MPC is the place to go for BMW or other foreign car repairs. Everyone is very friendly and will spend the time talking to you to explain everything and make sure you're comfortable with the work being performed. They don't try and push unnecessary work and also have better pricing than the same work being done at a dealership. They back their work with a 3 year warranty as well. You'll get a $20 Lyft ride at drop-off time but have to get yourself back upon pickup. Being treated right is under appreciated and they do a great job at MPC, from the customer interaction and communication to the work itself. read more

Jimmy C. was incredibly kind, got me in for an appointment quickly, and took the time to explain every detail of the diagnostic report and his recommendations. When I asked whether I should have a few additional services done before my move, he was honest and told me they weren't necessary. That level of integrity is hard to find. My previous Audi dealership often tried to upsell unnecessary repairs just to increase my bill, so Jimmy's honesty was truly appreciated. My car needed a part that wasn't expected to arrive until the next day, but Jimmy went above and beyond. I previously gave them 5 stars, but based on my last two visits, I'm no longer bringing my car here. The office staff are friendly but their mechanics seem to have a lack of attention to detail. At a previous visit to their Chicago location for an oil change on my aircooled Porsche, the mechanic didn't tighten down the oil drain plug. I got home and had a small pool of oil under the car and the plug was loose enough that I could hand-tighten it. They reached out to me and apologized, and asked for a second chance. Recently I needed another oil change and was having a small oil leak, so I thought I'd give them that second chance. I was told their aircooled tech moved to their Northbrook location, so even though it was much less convenient, I brought the car up there. I showed a picture of the leak to the service manager (though it was very easy to spot just peeking under the car), and after an inspection they recommended a costly amount of work to fix other minor leaks which included replacing two gaskets and seals, and a valve adjustment. I was told it would fix all of the issues they found, so I approved it and they finished the work within a couple days. Immediately when I got the car home, I noticed oil on the floor and a quick peek under the car showed it was still leaking from the same exact place it was initially. I get it, the car is old and they leak a lot, and sometimes it requires more work than initially planned. But I expect a mechanic to drive the car after working on it to make sure it's actually fixed, and if it's still leaking, tell me what it will take to fix it before giving me the car back. These two visits just seem like the mechanic is rushing through the work. Both problems seemed pretty easy to spot before the car left their shop if they would have taken the time to inspect it after testing. I feel like if I ever brought my car back there, I would have to inspect it myself before leaving the parking lot because I can't trust that it was actually fixed, which is not the kind of service you want from a mechanic. read more

I would like to refute the response from Andy at Midwest Performance Cars. I was quoted $657 to replace one tie rod on my 2015 Mercedes GLK 250 when I had it serviced in May, 2024. Andy said the tie rods were replaced in 2019. That means they lasted five years. To do both sides would cost over $1300. I took my SUV to my Bosch service center and had both tie rods replaced for $265. I could replace the tie rods five times before it reaches the $1300 cost for only replacing one time. I acquired my SUV in January, 2022. Since then, I followed the appropriate Mercedes A and B services. Andy says since they didn't have the records, they recommended everything that should be done. Not only is this irresponsible, it borders on being dishonest. A certified mechanic should be able to see what services are already done. read more

This area was screaming for a good independent shop for all the German cars in the area The week they opened, I made an appointment and took my A8L in for front brakes. I was an out-of-state purchaser looking to buy an older Porsche and found one in the Chicago area. It was a good model at a good price, but had a history that gave me pause. I wanted a pre-purchase inspection (PPI), but Porsches tend to move quickly from market, so I was afraid I'd miss out. The team at MPC worked to fit me in the day after I contacted them, and then provided a very thorough PPI report with pictures and explanations. Brian at MPC then spent a fair amount of time walking me through the report, what should be higher priority, and roughly what the costs may be. It gave me the confidence to move on the vehicle and the support to make sure that I got a fair price. MPC isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for, and on a high end car it is worth the cost for their level of detail. I highly recommend the team there and only hope that I can find a local indy shop as good as MPC where I live. read more

Brought my Porsche in for the two year service to get an oil change and brake fluid exchange. What a great experience. The facility is very clean. Full of Porsches. Saw a beautiful GT3 RS pull in after me. The staff were very responsive to my initially email and setting up an appointment. Everything is done remotely - the day before my appointment, I even received an online price quote from them for the services that I could approve in advance online. Was very pleased to see they are considerably less expensive than if I brought my car to the dealer. On the day of drop off, I was greeted by Chris the service advisor who was very professional and courteous. He texted me updates during the day and when my car was ready, received another text from him. I also received the payment invoice via text and paid online using my iPhone. Included in that invoice is a full report with pictures of your car and a thorough assessment including any other areas in need of servicing. They wash your car and dry it before you pick up. When I got there, all I had to do was sign for my car and I was on my merry way. read more

Generally overall poor experience here. Service and the people working there are nice; however, their pricing and quality of work is not the best. I brought in my BMW initially for an issue with brakes. They went ahead and did a diagnostic which cost ~$139. This diagnostic was suppose to interrogate all issues. They went ahead and sent off the part which was an issue. To my dismay, it was the wrong part. So they had to wait for the part to come back and then send off the other part which "(they) have never seen before". This added an additional week and we also were still charged for the freight shipping and handling for both parts. Once the part finally returned, they said that there was an additional newly found oil leak which had a scent of burning when driven. This never happened to my car prior to bringing it into the shop. At this point, I decided to just cut my losses with this place and get my car. Ultimately, the experience resulted in a week longer projected repair time, unnecessary costs of shipping out a functioning part, and a new problem which was not initially diagnosed in the first assessment. Overall, I think this place could be good for routine maintenance at a reasonable price however if you need major work done, take it elsewhere. read more

This is my new shop. Pricey estimates at Perillo had me looking around at other options. Thanks to Chicago yelpers I found MPC right in the neighborhood. The Black Mamba, that would be my '96BMW 328i, is still chugging along like a champ. I've been bringing it to this garage and Jonathan and his team do great work. He explains everything very clearly for me and shoots me straight about what must be addressed and what to keep an eye on. I've recently been here for some brake and exhaust issues. The car, not me. Again great service and contact about my ride. I've been able to get in the shop quickly and have my car back by the day's end. My experience at MWPC was awesome. I was interested in purchasing a Porsche which was in Chicago from out of state. Once I had discussed the details with the dealer, I insisted on a pre purchase inspection from MWPC - since I had read that they were the place for PPI in the Chicago area on several websites. I spoke with Jonathan and from the first phone call, the whole experience was perfect. He was awesome and very patient. They sent me the details of their PPI and the contract - payment was taken up front once the car arrived at their shop. They spent several hours inspecting the vehicle. Based on my research and the final report, I am confident that their inspection was far more detailed than the Porsche Certified Pre-Owned Inpsection that dealers are able to perform. From MWPC, I received text message updates on the day of the inspection and within hours of the inspection being complete, I received a very detailed report which included paint measurements, lots of photographs, detailed descriptions of even the smallest bits of damage and wear. The car ended up being in excellent condition but the report gave me enough negotiating power that the inspection process more than paid for itself. I had piece of mind that I was not being ripped off. I even asked for a few more photos of certain parts of the car and they happily obliged. I know I was being fairly demanding, but I wanted to know I was not wasting my time before I flew across the country to buy this car. I cannot recommend them highly enough. I wanted to drop by and meet the crew in person when I finally came out to purchase the car, but was unable to do so unfortunately. read more

I walked in MPC roughly around 2pm, I spoke with the first gentlemen about my BMW and told him how my vehicle has bad valve seals and asked if they do this kind of repair. He was not sure and asked an older gentlemen if they do that kind of work and said yes. I asked how much does this kind of repair go for? He laughed, then told me said he doesn't offer quotes. I clarified how i was just wondering of the costs maybe a rough estimate. He then rudely told me how does not offer quotes. I thank him for his time and left. I understand if they may need to inspect my vehicle first before they can give me exact costs. But this was not offered. I understand how every car is different. It was clear how they were not interested in my business. They may or may not perform good work but they lack in customer service skills. I have several cars that they've done work on. Two of them quite extensively. From my '74 Karmann Ghia and R129 SL500 through to my Porsche 955, they are trusted reliable operators and I've never had issues with the work they've done. Not cheap work but always good work. It is now 10/3 and I have yet to receive a written estimate for my second visit. Andy, check your email records with Jonathan and Chris - they never sent me a written estimate outlining the 5k in repair work you requested I pay for (I knew the 1800 was for the gearbox replacement but the additional 3k for the valve replacement was never sent to me). Again, I also asked for the part # for both items and I was ignored and told you must order the parts and if you don't, you will tack on a 20% mark up on the average price - essentially making my hard work of finding a well priced part not worthy. I agreed to not having you warranty the part in order to say 60% of the part fee produced by you and your team but again, never received those numbers.Furthermore, when I asked for the breakdown, I was ignored. Days later, I took to Yelp. Every one out there - BEWARE. Chris and Jonathan talk a smooth game but in the end, they are not knowledgeable and do not have the equipment to properly diagnose - $500 in diagnostic charges at MPC or $0 from MB of Chicago. I went here because I had a Groupon and needed an oil change. Scheduling an appt was fine, but getting there was a bit difficult because of the construction on Lake. I figured everything was fine when I left, but house later, my warning light came on that my tire pressure monitoring system had come on. Since this has never happened before, I can only assume that they did something when the oil was change. Since I don't drive that much, I really just ignored it and kept an eye on my tires. I only got more aggravated when only 3 months later, my "oil change needed" light came on. Since I rarely drive, there was no way that I needed a change. They had forgotten to note the change in the car's computer! Now I was REALLY annoyed that I had to schlep all the way back to the shop on a day off. I have been looking for a reputable place, preferably a small business over a dealership, to have my car regularly serviced for quite some time. I've had bad experiences in the past since Volkswagens can be quirky to service at times, but I am overwhelmingly delighted with the service I received from Midwest Performance Cars. The service I received from Tom, the owner, and his team of specialists, was second to none. While the service I needed this time around was pretty mundane (new tires, oil change, new rear brakes), everything was done promptly, correctly, and exactly as promised for a very reasonable rate. I was also able to ask questions about repairs I will likely need down the road without feeling pressured to have additional work performed that wasn't immediately necessary. Moreover, not only did I feel my car received its due attention, I also felt equally cared for as a customer, which certainly not something I've experienced in the past when it comes to maintaining my vehicle. This team takes pride in their work, their shop, and the opportunity to provide good service to everyone who walks through the door, and it shows in all they do. While the shop specializes in servicing some pretty badass fancy cars, they treated my comparatively simple VW Golf with as much attention to detail and importance as any other car in the shop, which I greatly appreciated. I dread taking my car in for an oil change. I've become accustomed to the attempted screwing that usually takes place. You know the kind, you take a seat in the lounge only to have the mechanic come in about 20 minutes later with a laundry list of things that are "horribly wrong" with your car with 30k miles on it. I find that the screwing is generally amplified when you have a discount. It's gotten so bad that I've actually started arming myself with the work order from my last service for reference. True story. So this morning, I packed up my Groupon (I swear, if Groupon needs a poster child, I'm their gal!) and my last service order and headed out for my 10:30am appointment. This time, my oil change experience was different. As soon as I arrived, my car was whisked away for service. Everyone I encountered was friendly and cool. They actually seemed to enjoy what they do, something I've never seen in an auto shop. I took a seat in the lounge and made a phone call. 30 minutes later, I was shocked when Tony came to get me and said I was all set. No laundry list, no screwing. I was so pleasantly surprised. It was the easiest and most pleasant oil change I've ever had. Granted, I only had an oil change, but I never got one hint of attitude or condescension from anyone, even on the phone to schedule my appointment. Everyone was just really cool. My wife came with a '03 Jeep Liberty whose preventative maintenance history was questionable at best outside a few scattered oil changes--was, that is, until I assumed responsibility for the thing once we were married. At the 60,000mi mark, I had all the fluids changed--diff, trans, transfer case, engine oil, etc.--and new spark plugs and brake pads installed. Final bill was fair. I probably could have the work done a little cheaper elsewhere, but I know these guys won't cut corners, and I appreciate them using the good synthetics that are hard to get other shops to use. Speaking of, you will pay a small premium for high end synthetic oils and fluids by default (Elf / Lubro Moly / RedLine) unless you specifically ask for the cheap stuff. So, I'm new to Chicago from California and I went from driving my car at least 2 hours a day to about 15 minutes a week during our Winter. Between Uber and Cabs, I've been commuting like the City Girl I am now. It turns out that's not so good when you have a high performance car like a Porsche Cayenne LOL. I went to start up the car in my garage and the battery flickered, but the car wouldn't start. I'd been going to my car at least once a week and letting it run for a few minutes, so I thought I was giving it enough charge to prevent this from happening. I did a Google search, initially for Porsche dealers (I've taken my car in California exclusively to Porsche Dealer Service providers), but found there weren't any near downtown. So I then did a Google search for Porsche Service and found, thankfully, Midwest Performance Cars. I found three (3). I visited their websites and then looked at Yelp comments and saw that the comments were extremely favorable overall for Midwest. Then I called the top 2 Midwest, and one other, and explained what I was experiencing. I spoke with someone at the other place too, but I chose Midwest because they called me back within 15 minutes of my leaving a message, and the person that called was very knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable. Also, when I had AAA tow service come out and give me a jump I mentioned Midwest and they confirmed that I was in good hands and that they'd heard only positive things about their work, that was another vote of confidence. They were able to recharge my car battery and install my front license plate (we didn't need the front plate in California) AND they even had the frame plate color matched to my unique sunrise gold color and it matches perfectly. They also gave me a recommendation on a couple other things I need to do soon, but also said you have a little time on these other things (I really appreciated that honesty)! Brought in my Range Rover because the wheels were making a deep repetitive noise and making the vehicle shake at high speeds. I had a feeling that it was due to shoddy work that was done at a shop that specializes in brakes a month before I moved to Chicago.. Both the service manager and owner, Jonathan and Andy, were extremely personable, courteous, and knowledgable with a shockingly genuine attitude, which is an interaction that I rarely experience at auto service businesses. In diagnosing the ailments, they discovered a small suspension issue that could have become incredibly dangerous which they promptly repaired. I would never have noticed this as the LandRover dealership overlooked this specific problem during a recently completed annual service. MPC concluded that the noise and shaking were the result of a poor brake job, and I will be taking the vehicle back to the shop that did them originally as they provided a three year warrantee on the work... I wish I had just waited and had the brake service done at MPC. MPC has won my future business and I will certainly recommend them to my west loop neighbors, and anyone else who is looking for high quality service without all of the BS that is normally associated with auto service centers. read more

I live in California and purchased a Mercedes G55 from a dealer in Chicago and was really hoping I could find a trustworthy shop to do my pre-purchase inspection (PPI). After calling 5 shops in town, all with "ya we could probly take a look" without any sense of protocol or thoroughness I came upon MPC and boy am I glad I did. Jonathan sent me a document detailing their PPI process, which already put me at ease --clearly these guys take pride in their job and as he put it bluntly "we're the buyer's advocate. We're here for you." Exactly what I needed when I wouldn't be there myself to drive and inspect the car--a very scary prospect. Adam the mechanic was fantastic. I received a 22 page document and countless associated photos of relevant issues around and under the car. Clearly it was looked over in meticulous detail. He even used a stethoscope to help find the location of a distant engine sound (I'm a physican myself so I was very impressed he went to such lengths to sleuth out any issues). The result was an OUTSTANDINGLY professional process and I can without ANY hesitation trust their assessment. I'm not sure I could have purchased a car under these circumstances (especially w/the abysmal dealer experience) without MPC looking over the car. I wish they were closer to California to be my repair shop but what can you do. I'm a tremendously grateful client and have already recommended MPC to friends in neighboring states in case they are ever in Chicago with any auto issues or in need of a PPI. I have been taking my Audi to Midwest Performance Cars for everything from an oil change to replacing breaks to my check engine lights over the last few years. I have continually been impressed with Tom & Lee with their customer service and beating the dealership repair prices by at least 10% every time. I know that they work on much larger repair jobs for other cars, but they never have a problem helping me out with even the smallest of things. What a rare pleasure to say something great about an auto repair shop. I took my BMW here for brake work a couple of months ago, believing that the system didn't need as much work as the dealer insisted on doing (to say nothing of the obscene prices for both parts and labor on that work). Tom at Midwest Performance (I hope I remember his name right) was honest and responsive. The service crew was fast and thorough, and seems to be a bunch of enthusiasts who really like what they do. But then, who wouldn't love spending ones time tuning Porsches, Ferraris and such? The labor rate is fair, certainly less than my local "stealer" (Perillo) and I paid only for what needed to be done. This turned out to be pretty close to what I believed based on what I knew of the condition of my own brakes. Same for the parts. Plus I was able to talk with the staff about non-BMW brands that I wanted to try for performance and lower dust output. They gave me an honest appraisal of the pros/cons of each brand and I've been very happy with my choice. One never wants to go in for car service but if/when I do, I'll be back. read more

I bought a Porsche 996 recently and was looking for a good mechanic to service it on a regular basis. Preferably in the city and obviously one that is trusted and won't rip you off. The guys here were very friendly over the phone as I explained the issue with the car. They said it's probably a half day job and it costs nothing to check it out and let you know what the approx. cost would be. I brought it in because I discovered the brake lights didn't work. I also asked them to look at a noisy clutch pedal. I dropped it off at 8am on a Wednesday. Their computers were down so I had to re-explain the issue. At the end of the day 5pm+ I called and they said it will have to stay overnight. Likely a small faulty part causing the problem and they need the replacement part from somewhere. Ok, that's fine. I didn't expect it back same day anyway. Thurs rolls around, I figure I call end of the day and I got the same story. Basically same story on Friday. Saturday morning I called again and they said it was ready. Thankfully they said they'd be around later than their 2pm close otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get the car back until Monday. Results: Brake lights work. Fantastic. Primary problem solved. Clutch pedal. They said they lubed it up a lot and that I probably won't notice any noise. They charged some labor for it. But they also mentioned there is an expensive pedal cluster replacement from the dealer I can opt for if it remains an issue. Of course when I got in and drove it out of the garage, the clutch pedal sounded every bit as noisy as before. Possibly worse. Still sounds like a rocking chair. Which leads me to believe they either didn't look at it. Or didn't care to check it after they 'fixed' it. Was hoping my first experience would be better. It's irritating when I have to reach out to them to check up on the car every day. Also irritating when something they 'fixed' is the same or worse than before. Chris and his team are super attentive and friendly. They are very thorough in diagnosing and provide detailed information/pictures in advance before performing any recommended services. I thought I had carbon build-up in the intake valves and requested walnut blasting. I was wrong. Their inspection determined it was the fuel injectors and identified other issues that needed immediate repair. The repairs were completed in 1 to 2 days and I was given real-time expectations of when the repairs would be done. The car is running as good as new. read more

The check engine light on my 04 Volkswagen came on. The mechanic by my work told me that it was the camshaft sensor. I did not have a good feeling that he had the skills to replace it so I went to my regular mechanic. He told me he could do it but had never replaced one on a Volkswagen. I decided to do some research. I found Midwest on Yelp. I had a great experience with Tom. He told me over the phone that replacing the sensor was something his folks were quite familiar with. In addition, the work came with a 12 mo./12,000 mile warranty. His price was much lower than the dealer as well. I won't hesitate to take my car back to Tom. I was quite satisfied. read more

Thanks for the great reviews, Yelpers! I probably would not have brought my car over here. After 15 years, my (dad's) 1996 993 needed a handbrake adjustment. The place was a little hard to find with the construction in the way. Tom, Jonathan, and the staff are great. They were professional, to the point, and made me feel at ease and valued as a customer (see my review about Loeber Motors). They explained exactly what they were going to do and didn't try to hustle me. They may not be the fastest repair turnaround, but the handbrake is finally working, and I may have set a record by paying only $65 for the job. It's very hard to be mad about time, especially if they get the job done right the first time...unlike Loeber Motors, where climate control panels mysteriously disappear. Yeah, that happened today. Bottom line: if your car needs service, bring it here. Tom and his team will take good care of it...unlike Loeber Motors. read more
