They are Honest, Customer Service oriented and do good work 20 years ago I bought my MINI Cooper brand new from the MINI/BMW dealer and have only had my dealership In Schaumburg do repairs on my faithful car. I needed the headlamp bulb replaced right away and didn't want to drive all the way out to Schaumburg for the minor repair. I googled European car repair shops near me. The first place I called couldn't see me until the next day. When I called Europlex they fit me in the same day. The manager, Lou was friendly and looked at my car immediately. He also discovered that my rear brake light was out. I was in and out in under an hour. While in the waiting room I observed how Lou interacted with customers in person and on the phone. More than once I heard him explain that certain repairs the customer requested weren't actually needed. One repair was so minor he charged only a few bucks. My observations led me to conclude that these people are trustworthy and honest. Repair shops sometimes try to fabricate things wrong just to gouge you out at of as much money as possible. I am a 69 year old female who has been driving the same MINI for almost 20 years. Unfortunately some auto repair shops tend to over inflate the work required and prices when they see a female walk in. But I did not get that sense from Lou and the guys at Euro Plex.. plus their prices were reasonable and fair. I probably would have paid twice as much to have the same repairs done at my MINI dealer where I ALWAYS have had repairs done. The daughter moved, along with the late model family Volvo, to Chicago for school a couple of years ago. Since the move, there have been several unexpected car related issues that have dropped in for unwelcome visits. Euro Auto Plex came highly recommended for Volvo repairs and they have saved the day for her a number of times. The people there are always welcoming, friendly, and extremely knowledgable. The assessments of what is going on with the car are carefully and patiently explained along with what the cost would be to repair. They also have suggested, when appropriate, holding off on certain things that do not need to be addressed urgently. Their honesty and integrity is tremendously appreciated. My wife recently took her 2014 Audi A4 here for a transmission fluid leak. She took it to various shops, even to Audi, but they could not locate the leak. I saw good reviews about this place, so she took it here. The owner Brandon was great. He took the vehicle in right away. His brother, Luke inspected her vehicle and was able to find the leak and repaired the vehicle. They are very reasonably priced compared to everyone else. I would definatley recommend this location to everyone. They treated my wife with respect. Which was very important to me. The service was Awesome. They listened to me before I brought my car in for service. I dropped my car off and they explained everything to me. They explained what they would do and what parts they use. And they were upfront about the cost. My 2014 Subaru was fixed in a timely manner and I am very pleased with the service. I am coming from a different RIPOFF mechanic shop that did a crappy job on my Subaru. I spent a lot on money with this RIPPOFF place and some of the work done needs to be redone, sadly. Working with these guys has been great. They answer all my questions and have great turnaround times. I've taken my Jaguar F-Type in multiple times, sometimes for routine things like fluid changes, and in other cases for their help chasing down some less-common issues I am having with the car. They have been happy to work with my warranty provider, and when I pay out-of-pocket the prices have been reasonable and fair. I would recommend these guys to anyone who has a European car, their shop is full of Volvos so I imagine they are a go-to for a lot of those owners as well, but from my experience and their knowledge, it seems like they do a fair bit of work on Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles as well. read more

UPDATE ON MY ORIGINAL 5 STAR REVIEW: I've been a customer of Euro Auto Plex for roughly 20 years.  On and off.  3 Volvos and an Audi.  I've spent probably $7000-8,000 on maintenance/repairs in the shop. I knew the owner John and Tony (front desk) on a first name basis.  I trusted them.  I've always paid the bills happily.  Never a single issue. I recently purchased another Volvo after bringing it to Euro Auto Plex for a pre-purchase inspection (see Tony at Euro Auto Plex's hand written inspection). The owner John wasn't around, and a newer employee I didn't recognize took a look at the car.  To the best of my (and the seller's recollection), the car was not test driven.  We both agreed it was driven directly into the garage. The entire inspection took between 20-30 minutes (a rather brief inspection, but again, I trusted EAP).  A myriad of costly issues were not identified, and I bought a car not worth putting money into (see attached 2nd inspection done by Bryan's Garage in Evanston).  Brenton at Bryan's said, "If you had brought this car here we would have told you not to buy it.  Too many problems to fix.  Not worth it.")  So I trusted my regular mechanic to steer me in the right direction and it didn't work out so well. I hold Euro Auto Plex responsible for this. Take one look at the attached paperwork- the difference in quality between Tony's hand written Euro Auto Plex inspection and Bryan's Garage is night vs. day.  Professional vs. unprofessional. Thorough vs. inadequate. I understand buying a used car comes with risks.  I understand older European cars need costly maintenance and repairs.  I was prepared for this as I've owned a 1989 Volvo 740 Turbo, a 1993 Volvo 960 Volvo, a 2004 Audi A6, and a 2001 Volvo V70 T5, and have taken them ALL to Euro Auto Plex!   THE PRIMARY REASON FOR THIS YELP REVIEW: What made my blood boil was the way Tony (again, a man I've known for 20 years on a first name basis) handled my follow up complaints on the phone and in-person.  He immediately tried to turn it around and "blame it on me." He refused to listen to me. He turned hostile and dismissive.  He accused me of having a bad memory, saying he "warned me the car had a bad transmission." (He didn't. Why would I buy an older Volvo that needed some repairs already AND had a bad transmission? This man either chose to intentionally lie to me to protect himself or his grasp of the facts is poor! No if's, and's, or but's about it!) Tony refused to refund the pre-purchase inspection fee of $60.  I approached John the owner a day later, explained the situation, and he promptly refunded my inspection fee plus an overcharge for a license plate bracket (Tony charged me $35 more than what Howard Orloff Volvo charges to purchase and install a front license plate bracket: $66.87 vs. $31. Orloff's bracket wasn't plastic with "Euro Auto Plex" written all over it, either). Tony, you've cost Euro Auto Plex a loyal customer. There's absolutely no excuse for treating me like that, especially when it was your shop that didn't do their job properly and you signed off on it. Way to go. Class act. Rant done. read more

Warning to especially women out their taking their cars to this place, the new owners Brandon and his brother are not only condescending but will scam you. I have been coming here for 4 years and the prior owner, Tony was wonderful. He would give me a list of recommendations that should be done in the coming year that I could pick based on my finances and always was affordable. Since Brandon and his brother took over they are always surprising me with expensive work that needs to be done ASAP and I had no forewarning of. Every time I have taken my car in for an oil change there is always mysteriously a huge new issue that needs to be done. Recently there was a miscommunication by them and on the receipt of work that had been done and they refuse to take ownership of it and do the work on what they told me they would. I took my car to Saabtech instead who did the work for a fraction of the price that Europlex was quoting me. Europlex also put faulty equipment in my car that cause damage to my strut. After my car had to be towed for this machinery malfunction I had to take it back again since a new loud noise was coming from my wheel. They told me the noise was "from things finally being tight properly". I took it for a second opinion after calling them about it a second time and the other shop diagnosed the issue easily, that my strut was broken most likely from the machinery malfunction. Don't take your car to them, they lie and install cheap equipment that is expensive and will not take ownership when they make mistakes. read more

I highly recommend Euro Auto Plex for mechanical repairs and routine maintenance of European vehicles. I have a Volvo S80. I used to go to the Volvo dealership for service but, about two years ago, the local dealer gave me an estimate of $5000 for needed repairs and maintenance. I started searching for an alternative and found Euro Auto Plex. I was able to get all of the work done (including some complicated front suspension work) for about half the cost the dealer was proposing. The work was completely quickly and I had no recurring problems. I have used this company several more times since and have always walked away pleased. Tony runs the front office and provides you with clear estimates and timely updates. Jon Rek is in charge. He is an expert diagnostician. I feel very comfortable that they can identify the problem and fix it in the most economical way possible. I never leave feeling like I used to when I left the dealership - that they just fixed a bunch of stuff and hopefully it included the real problem. It is true that he restricts his service to Volvo's, but I see that as being a good thing--a specialist, like a neurosurgeon, should not work on anything else but what they are great at! Recently I rear-ended someone and did a ton of damage to my car. John and his staff located the pieces that I needed and then showed me how to do the work myself to save some cash--that's incredible service from a mechanic! So why only 4 stars? Like a dentist, if it's tough getting in to a mechanic, I take it as a good sign. I finally worked out a time when they could take my car. John's a terse bird, but he's a mechanic, not a politician. The morning after I dropped off my car, Tony called to go over in detail and get my approval for what needed to be fixed--which was a LOT. That evening, they call back and say it'll be ready for pickup the next morning. Keep in mind they basically had to replace most of the front-end suspension. That's some speedy-ass work! Also, when I compared their parts prices to other shops and online parts supplies, they somehow get parts MUCH cheaper. I dunno, maybe that's the norm for specialty mechanics, but I was pleasantly surprised. I've only been here once, but I'm definitely going back. Tony's great and when I went to pick the car up, John stopped what he was doing to shake my hand, say thanks, and brief me on the parts warranties. Unusually friendly customer service. read more

This might be a long story... I went to get my volvo checked not because there was any problem with it, but because it had passed a certain mile-marker. It needed minor tune ups but it was done within a few hours. I drive the car back to where I live, going to a few places on the way back. At the end of the day my car suddenly stops working. Basically, the power still went on but the engine showed no signs of turning over. Very weird... on top of that, it was still the same day that I had taken it in to get checked. I call them, they tell me to bring it in next day. They say that the "ignition lock cylinder" needs to be replaced. This is a part that needs to be specially ordered from Germany (maybe it was Sweden, not sure). I say to myself, OK, these guys actually have a good reputation, their customers seem satisfied and so maybe, just maybe it is a coincidence, though its hard to not think otherwise. Well, that was my biggest of worries yet. They told me that the part would come in 5 days and I would be able to pick it up in 5 days. I had to wait 2 weeks!!! The worst part about it was that Tony kept telling me it would be done on certain days, they were just waiting on the part to come in. ...The part was lost by DHL, which is why I had to wait for so long, but my issue is that they never checked the status of the part to see that it was lost for a week and a half. They should have checked it earlier and we would've figured it out earlier, instead of them writing it off and promising it would be done soon! In the end, I have no qualms about Euro Auto Plex. They are nice people, and I'm writing the situation off as a fluke. They ended up giving me the car for about $250 including part and labor when they originally said about $300. Tony is very nice and helpful also, so is John the owner. I have to say they are pretty trustworthy too. I forgot to remove my ipod, and my gps from the car. With the car being gone for so long, I was worried that those two items might also be gone, but they weren't... restoring some faith in them. read more

These guys are friendly, good prices, and most importantly for a garage, I TRUST THEM. I seem to have gotten "stuck" on older Volvo wagons... cute, and... supposed to last forever. I take mine in for an oil change to the dealer, who breaks something as they wash my car afterward, am displeased, and they refer me and note that things would be much less expensive if I take it to John. I meet him, love him, and all is... GREAT. Yes, John's a little terse, but I laugh + tease him, and all is well. He seems like actually a good guy, something I have never really found, in a way I feel really trustworthy about, with any garage. Ever. A small crash happened to that Volvo, so I take it over there, it's deemed a goner. I trust that. And, not finding another one easily, I ask and John comes through, even with the color I wanted! I love these guys. A few minor, and Very, Very Fairly Priced repairs later, I move to Minnesota, where John seems to go with some frequency. Newly in St Paul, I need brakes and a small electrical repair for windshield wipers that won't turn off (delightful though, I've learned the magic jiggle). Get both repaired locally, the guy can't find a part, so I have him call John and he has it instantly (I knew he would)... but both repairs are expensive disasters. Of course, it's not JOHN! I know if I could get it into John, it'd be all great, it always is at this ROCKING Volvo shop. John, if you come through St Paul anytime soon, I'll invite you over + hopefully convince you (or the guy's shop down the street) to help me out up here, please! (It's J, white Volvo wagon, I drive to Minnesota sometimes.... my white Volvo now sounds like it's not even going to make it down the street, post-brakes) *Oddly, I've read the fewer-than-5-star reviews, and I see nothing negative in them, but for a few days' wait . I cannot believe the reviews here. They must be their personal friends or some kind of marketing gimmick. Euro Auto Plex is very greedy, especially John. This place associates my terrible experience with Volvo. Once they fix one and they will find another problem. It will be again and again until they will complete drain all your money. I once asked John how much it would cost to replace spark plugs for my ten year old volvo. He said one dollar each. I expected the bill less than a couple hundred dollars including the labor. The bill was one thousand dollars. He said he had to replace many parts. I know people want to survive by ripping other people off. However, it has to have a limit. Where is all our business ethics? Don't own a Volvo. If you must, do not go to this place unless you are a millionaire so that it will take a while till they completely suck you out. I pity you all who had to go to this place. After being underwhelmed by the service at Hubbard Woods Motors, I had put off finding a new mechanic to service my low mileage 1996 855 Turbo. My hand was pressed as my coach overheated on a ride back from the airport. After having the car towed to my apartment, and with just a week before leaving on an 1100 mile road trip for work, I searched the Volvo forums for suggestions. Euro Auto Plex was looked upon favorably, but the Yelp reviews made the owner seem a little soup-nazish. That wasn't my experience at all. After making an appointment over the phone, I was given special permission to drop off my car on a Saturday. I pulled into a yard full of other bricks, of all vintages. It was then that I met John, who obviously knew his stuff. He took my keys and assured me that I'd be ready in time for my trip. On Monday morning, I received a call outlining the fix needed for my problem. I had mentally prepared to spend upwards of $500 (as other Volvo owners can attest, you almost never leave a shop without spending this amount). The estimate for the repair and 75k mile service came to $240, and the car would be ready for pickup at 5 that day. I was blown away, and a little wary, since I was going to be taking the car on a long tour of the lower states. John assured me that everything would be fine. He was pleasant, professional, and even showed me his V70R. I picked the car up, took it for a quick jaunt on the highway, and everything seemed fine. The trip later that week was uneventful, without even a slight raise of temp. Honest. knowledgeable mechanics with fair pricing. The only issue is that they're hugely successful, and you have to make an appointment for service well in advance. But I assure you, it's worth it. read more

Euro Auto Plex recently did a great job diagnosing a tough problem in my Volvo 850R. A local mechanic failed to properly install the replacement PCV system, meaning the crankcase was still smoking and not ventilating as it should have been. Euro Auto Plex quickly figured out what was wrong and fixed it for a very reasonable sum. They also performed a few other repairs I requested at very reasonable cost, including the dreaded 850 door stop mount cracking issue that my body shop told me couldn't be fixed. Their communication was excellent and I was given updates every day it was in the shop. Pretty rare in this business. This is absolutely the place to go if you have a Volvo 850 or 240. Most local mechanics will have no clue how these cars work because they're not used to seeing them, so there's a very good chance they won't fix them right. Dealers used to working on newer Volvos and simply replacing parts under warranty aren't much better (but much more costly!). John and his crew work on 850s and 240s probably every day, so you can count on a correct diagnosis and, likely, a cheaper repair than the corner shop because they know what they're doing and won't charge you for excess diagnosis time and unnecessary repairs. I will certainly come back in the future for any maintenance my car needs that I can't or don't have time to do. Thumbs up! read more

I have been taking my '04 Volvo XC90 to these guys since it was out of warranty with the dealer. They have always been honest, fair, reasonably priced, and prompt with their work. Their communication is also outstanding. Today, for example, I was called to confirm that the car would be ready by the time that I had requested, and called again to recommend additional minor repairs that they didn't want to perform without permission. During the recent nasty "polar vortex" weather, and just as we were getting ready to leave on a trip, our S80's windshield washer tank broke, rendering the washers useless - a dangerous situation. Within 24 hours of my slightly desperate phone call, Tony secured the part and had it installed. His price was a bit over half what the local dealer quoted, and the installation time was several days shorter than the dealer offered. I'm thinking that's pretty darn good service. read more

I came into this shop and explained that my car was vibrating and shaking hard. Upon their inspection I was told they diagnosed C.E.L. and checked codes and found a code for misfire on the ignition coil #1 and spark plugs so they removed them and replaced them. They also did what appears to be routine maintenance with replacement of air filter, carbon filter and also replaced left front position bulb. (at this point I am now suspicious if the air and carbon filter even needed replacing seeing as how horrible my experience was). Regarding misfire on the ignition coil #1 and spark plugs, they diagnosed this as the original reason I was in for the car shaking. I drove away only to have the problem come back in less than 24 hours. I then brought my car in again and waited 45 minutes for a mechanic to look it over. He looked at a few things and gave me the car back with the same shaking and shrugged his shoulders when I told him the car still had a problem. At this point the owner in a very combative non-listening manner told me that I probably needed all coils replaced - when one is replaced others most likely go bad. Hmmmm? Seems odd - I thought that when you bring a car to an auto shop they run tests and hook it up to a machine to find all of the issues but now after one coil is replaced I may need others replaced? Suspicious - but I gave them the benefit of the doubt - cars are not my expertise. Wrong move #2 was letting them look at the car again. I then left the car with them, this time for an entire week at which point they said they removed and repaired the intake manifold this time at the tune of another $604.01 for parts and labor. They also said at some point I would need front and rear 02 sensors at the tune of approximately $700 in parts and labor but said this WAS NOT part of the current issue and could wait to be fixed. I picked the car up and less than 48 hours later THE SAME PROBLEM I brought the car in for persisted again. At this point they wanted me to bring the car back again. They said that something else must be broken. HERE IS THE PROBLEM. I gave them the car to do a full diagnoses on. They did not fix the car. Every time I came back they found something else that needed to be fixed. They did not say anything about being sorry I was still having issues - they just wanted me to bring the car back in so they could continue to misdiagnose and really take me to the cleaners. I had to go to another auto repair shop because frankly I was not confident that they would properly diagnose the problem and that it would continue costing me more money. I actually brought it to 2 more places - both of which only verified I needed the front 02 sensor when they said I needed both - this is very suspicious to me. The new auto shop found that the issue was and electrical issue where the control module wire harness was not communicating and was sending the wrong message causing the issues. Euro NEVER even mentioned the possibility of an electrical issue. Proving my point that they had no idea how to properly fix the car. The place I did end up taking it to after this mess fixed the car and it has been running great - they also guarantee their work. The new place said there is no way to prove it but it is most likely that the intake manifold did not need repair - this is a common misdiagnoses on cars. I then emailed Euro back and asked for a partial refund to which again, they emailed a novel back to me - never once apologizing for the inconvenience caused to me and the lack of properly fixing my car. The only way they would consider a refund is if I brought the car back to them and they put the old manifold back in. Ummm... no way would I ever let them near my car again. The intake manifold was $300 the labor was an additional $300 - at the very least have some integrity and refund the labor cost since they clearly could not properly fix my car. They charge $115 an hour for labor - I should charge then $115 hour for my time of going back and forth and being without a car for 10 days. Sorry for the rant but let this be a warning to not step foot in this place. read more

Great work, decent prices, terrible communication. I've taken my 17-year old Volvo to Euro Autoplex since I purchased the car in May. No complaints about the quality of workmanship nor the pricing. Though Swedish car repair is never truly cheap, I always felt that all charges were reasonable and clearly explained. What will keep me from supporting this shop in the future is its poor communication in terms of completion time. Made an appointment for Monday morning to replace a broken headlight and to correct alignment. I didn't receive a call about my car until about 5pm, when I was told I could pick up on Tuesday afternoon. At 1:30pm on Tuesday, I was told that it'd be ready in about an hour. When my husband went to get the car at 5pm, he was informed that we could pick it up the next morning. Couldn't we have gotten a phone call or two about these delays? So, if you don't mind being strung along waiting too long for high-quality yet simple repairs, bring your Volvo here. read more

I will join the chorus of praise for John, Tony and the whole crew at Euro Auto Plex. They are master mechanics who are also honest as the day is long. I took our 2004 XC 70 in because I was smelling gasoline in our garage. John diagnosed it quickly and (because he knows everything about Volvos) said that it was a recall item and that I should take it to the dealer so that the parts and labor would be free. He sent me to a dealer he recommended in the suburbs. Some garages would have wanted to keep the business and not bother to look and see if the problem was something covered by the manufacturer. I could cite several other examples of good service at fair prices but suffice it to say that if Euro Auto Plex was a restaurant it would have three Michelin stars. read more

These guys are a complete scam!! Stay Away unless you want to get screwed! I did lots of online research to find a place my 19 year old daughter could take her 1997 Volvo for service while she attends college in Chicago. I chose this place because of the reviews (obviously their friends and relatives) and their experience with Volvos. First they quoted her over $1000 for a power steering repair that my local (Detroit) mechanic had quoted me around $400 for. Then we thought we'd try them out for an oil change and they tried to charge her $70!...a male friend of hers argued them down to an outrageous $60!!...for an oil change! WTF!? Rumor is that its hard to find a good honest mechanic, John, Tony and Victor at Euro Auto Plex are definitely that rare breed. They've helped me keep my 24 year old Volvo up and running well for less than what Edmunds says the yearly maintenance on a much newer model should be. This place was great. I came in with a 2003 Jetta GLI with a check engine light on. The staff was very courteous and actually believed that I knew what was wrong with it (which for once I happened to be right) instead of the usual smugness that I've experienced with mechanics. John ran a diagnostic and replaced my ignition coil switch for under $200. They actually cut me a deal where I paid less than the part cost. They just told me to bring it in for an oil change... which I definitely will. Great service, great prices. And they work on all sorts of European cars... I am loyal to Euro Auto Plex, and will never go anywhere else in the city of Chicago. John is a fellow Porsche owner, and takes care of it, like it's part of his family. In a city full of predatory repair shops, EAP has fair prices, and proactive recommendations, for preventative maintenance, and improved safety. Last week, I stopped by to confirm a correct part, and the owner John Rek, noticed I had low air in my tire, and filled it up. His associate, then noticed a nail in my side wall, saving me from a potential bad situation. The only downside, is lack of email, or electronic communication. But, it doesn't warrant a reduction in stars. On the upside, their credit cards are uber fast. Trust is hard to come by, & Euro Auto Plex earns it. A+++. They have work for me personally and for my business. At work, I have a fleet of trucks and I used Reliable for that. They are an excellent company, great service, and good employees. I have no complaints. I like their customer service and they really work hard to do whatever it is that the customer wants, if I want them to come to my house or to my office. If I needed them on a sat, they do the best they can to comply with what you need. read more

My only reviews so far involve keeping my 1989 Volvo 740 Turbo wagon running. And...I have to tip the cap to Euro Auto Plex, John, and office manager, Tony. When you own a car like this, you become an amateur expert. If you own a Volvo, don't give it another thought. Go to these guys. Don't believe me?
