I am loyal to Euro Auto Plex, and will never go anywhere else in the city of Chicago. John is a fellow Porsche owner, and takes care of it, like it's part of his family. In a city full of predatory repair shops, EAP has fair prices, and proactive recommendations, for preventative maintenance, and improved safety. Last week, I stopped by to confirm a correct part, and the owner John Rek, noticed I had low air in my tire, and filled it up. His associate, then noticed a nail in my side wall, saving me from a potential bad situation. The only downside, is lack of email, or electronic communication. But, it doesn't warrant a reduction in stars. On the upside, their credit cards are uber fast. Trust is hard to come by, & Euro Auto Plex earns it. A+++. I just noticed that I posted back in 2013, it's still amazing. :) read more

Rumor is that its hard to find a good honest mechanic, John, Tony and Victor at Euro Auto Plex are definitely that rare breed. They've helped me keep my 24 year old Volvo up and running well for less than what Edmunds says the yearly maintenance on a much newer model should be. They source parts from their own bone yard when appropriate to keep costs down & doing economical repairs the right way. They don't make 'em like they used to. Thanks guys! read more

They have work for me personally and for my business. At work, I have a fleet of trucks and I used Reliable for that. They are an excellent company, great service, and good employees. I have no complaints. I like their customer service and they really work hard to do whatever it is that the customer wants, if I want them to come to my house or to my office. If I needed them on a sat, they do the best they can to comply with what you need. read more

Fantastic place for Volvo's! They are honest, fast and way less expensive than going to any of the local Volvo dealerships. The owner used to work for one of the dealerships and decided to start his own place. The dealerships even send their overflow here. He has great contacts and can get rare parts fast. Especially if you have an older model Volvo. John is like the Volvo dictionary he knows so much! Yes they are Volvo only but I like that its a specialized shop since a Volvo really isn't a Ford. :) read more

Great, friendly service that is honest and thorough. They do a good job of keeping you in the loop and you feel like your car is in good hands read more

I love this place! I have a 2003 Volvo S40 that recently needed A LOT of repairs. The people there are very professional and did a great job of explaining what work needed to be done- especially what was an urgent matter and what could wait. They were also very good about calling me to verify that is was ok to proceed with a certain repair and were very honest and open about the cost of everything. Will definitely be taking my car back there for any future repairs needed and would recommend to anyone! read more

Super friendly and fast had my alternator fixed that same day! Also I am positive I paid way less then I would have had I of taken it to the dealership! I will be back! Thanks guys!! read more

Unbelievable. Not only did they do a fantastic job with my S40, they also told me about 5 things that I DIDNT have to have fixed that the dealership said I did- saving me about $600. And get this- I told the guy who was helping me (Tony) that I was moving to Salt Lake City- he talked to a bunch of his mechanics and called me back two days late with the name, number, and address of a mechanic in SLC that was recommended. So- he went out of his way to help out someone who he knew was never going to be able to give him any business again. I wish I could give him more of my business. read more

I've been going to Euro Auto Plex since the beginning of it's time. Yes, the place was sparkling new. One day back in the 80's I asked a local mechanic where I should take my 1979 Beemer and he referred me to this new shop Euro Auto Plex on Ashland. Yes back then they worked on all foreign cars. But today they try and focus on Volvos because as John says, "parts are half the price of BMW's and Volvos are Great well built cars". Anyway, I can go on forever with all the visits to him: like when I brought in my second Bemmer and this button thing in my dash stopped working. He said I should go to the dealer and buy the part for under $5 and he showed me how to install it (stick my hand in the glove box and pop out the switch/button, plug the new one in and woola it was fixed). Once time I was in the waiting room I met a guy that was referred to John by the Mercedes dealer because they could not figure out what was wrong and naturally John fixed it. Then one day he says he can only work on Volvo's. Well when my SUV got totaled and unemployed at the time, I broke down and bought my first used 2000 Volvo wagon. John said I was a good basic car (no turbo - no AWD) and I can put 200k miles if I take care of it. Well, I've almost put 100k on it and no major issues. During this winter while traveling to Arkansas a rock hit from a truck hit my sunroof and shattered: instead for paying $700 at the glass shop they installed a used one for $150 (one from his bone yard).Yes, depending on the issue, if a use part is appropriate from one of his bone cars, he asks if he can install it, I don't care, saves us all money. They have ALWAYS been honest and extremely fair priced and fun nice guys. Love these guys, hope he Never closes. read more

If you are looking for a repair shop that will courteously listen to your issue and then schedule you an appointment early in the morning four days later, only to not have a mechanic who can handle that simple procedure, this is your shop! They knew that I needed a main seal changed and gave me an appointment for it, had all of my personal info on hand and the make of my car, just didn't have a mechanic available that day. So it made little sense to have me drive all the way over that day, but they couldn't find a way to call me to re-schedule it. Why bother accepting an appointment you can't service? read more

Ive never self so ripped off after taking my recently purchased used volvo into this place. I though the positive reviews were enough to trust, as my first yelp review don't trust this place! I took my volvo in for an inspection along with an oil change a couple weeks after i purchased the car. I told them i was getting ready for a road trip and wanted to make sure the brakes were checked out as well. Got a call back saying i the brakes were fine but i needed a new timing belt, front headlight, and a handful of other mechanical issues fixed. Having naively admitting that i knew nothing about cars they ended up charging me nearly $1800 in repairs in which were unclear as to what and why i needed things. As i drove away i realized immediately my left turn signal was not working properly (worked perfectly fine before i brought it in). The next week i noticed my headlight was still not working, so they told me to bring the car back so they could fix the signal and headlight which i was assuming to be free since i had already brought the car there a few days earlier. I took the car back on a monday morning and still expressed concern about the brakes be suitable for a road trip. after having the car for almost three days they told me it was going to cost upward of $300 if i wanted them to replace the whole turn signal mechanism which THEY BROKE, they then realized they never charged me or fixed the head light that they had previously told me was out. and after rechecking the brakes like i insisted, they then pointed out that there was a slight issues with the mechanical pump for the brakes and simply suggested not to drive too fast. WTF im going on a road trip shouldn't my brakes be working 100%??? They sent me off charging me $85 to re wire the headlight (which should have already been fixed the first time around) and acted like a complementary bulb was the nicest thing they could do. I left reassured the car was fine. but NOPE! after a couple days of driving i noticed my car was significantly louder then when i had brought it in. In the trunk i found a large torn piece of insulation foam that i did not put there! Not wanting to believe i was still having car trouble i dealt with it until friday morning when i tried to start my car to go to work to my surprise the car wouldn't accelerate at all FML. The check engine light and a flashing arrow came on and i was stuck:( HOW MUCH MORE AM I GOING TO HAVE TO SPEND i thought to get this car working normally?? Fed up with Euro Auto Plex and their scams I had to get my car towed to Wizaed Werks. They were extremely friendly and understanding of my frustration. After only a few hours they called me back saying my transmission oil was completely dry and the electronic sensors needed to be reset. They got the car working for less then $180 the same day! They showed me how easy it was to check the transmission oil and there was no reason why Euro Auto Plex could have missed doing so during their inspection. DO NOT GO to Euro Auto Plex and waste all your money! Just because they represent them selfs as a volvo specialist does not mean these guys are special or honorable. This place is run by an insufficient staff willing to take advantage of anyone who comes off as vulnerability. go check out Wizard Werks instead, just a mile south these guys are a family run business and will take care of your car at a fraction of the price putting your mind and wallet at ease, they also focus on european car so they know whats up. read more

Not just quality repairs. The crew at Europlex finds the most economical way to get you back on the road. You will also get excellent advice on which cars make sense to buy. I have viewed my experiences with them as a partnership. Trust and honesty abound. read more

Love the guys at Euro Auto Plex. I've been a customer since 1999. Most honest mechanics I know. Very reasonable in price and do not up-sell but they ensure I am driving safely. Very prompt communication. Can't say enough good things about John and the guys. read more

This was the best experience I've ever had getting my car repaired. I took it to the dealership initially, who gave me a laundry list of things that needed repair and a really high estimate on each item. When I took it to Euro Auto Plex, Tony was extremely nice and helpful, and after doing an in depth diagnostic of the car he presented a much smaller list of necessary repairs (whose cost was a fraction of the total quoted by the dealership). Not only that, when I told him about a specific repair that the dealership had offered a 2 year warrantee on, he consulted with John (the owner of the shop) and told me I should use them for that repair instead because the warrantee was worth it (and was something they couldn't offer). These guys are honest, fair and extremely accommodating - if there was a way to make the experience of paying for car repairs pleasant, they accomplished that! read more

First off, I am not a complainer. And shame on me for not being one until now. I took my car here 4 times, and NOT once did I get an estimate for the work that was done even though I received verbal commitments each time to get a phone call before ANY work was done. The last time I brought my car in, when I picked it up it had on a new light on saying something was wrong. I called and let them know right away, then took it back and they wanted to charge me $50 to replace a fuse they broke the last time it was in. When I diplomatically brought up the fact this was the FOURTH time they did work on my car without calling and checking with me first, the owner erupted at me saying "what - we are supposed to work for free? I don't have time to call you unless the repairs are over $50!" Huh? Then why no call the last time - when repairs were close to $300? Or the time before when they were over $100? Since when was there a $50 minimum price tag on doing an estimate? What sucks is that I really wanted to like this place since it's conveniently located and it's not a dealership. But I should have learned after 3 strikes. All the owner had to say was "I apologize, I should have called." But instead he started YELLING (seriously!) at me despite me remaining totally calm the entire time. Totally, utterly unacceptable. I highly recommend going elsewhere for your Volvo repairs. read more

Once your car gets out of warranty zone, going to a dealership to get your car repaired is basically asking for trouble. They're not really there to maintain your car, they only want to give you a reason to buy another one. With that in mind, my 11 year old car was in need of some love. I found these guys on yelp and was very pleased. They didn't up-sell me on random junk -- it wasn't cheap per say, but I knew what I was in for (tires, brakes, necessary evils) so I can't complain. They did what needed to be done, did it fast, and communicated with me every step of the way. All in all, very satisfied (and the car is running quite smoothly). read more

I found Euro Auto Plex 2 years ago when I bought an older Volvo wagon. If you have a used Volvo and live anywhere nearby, you would be crazy not to take it there. They live and breath Volvo. John, the owner, is also a great guy and charges very fair rates. You need to plan/call ahead because they are almost always busy. read more

I have been bringing my Volvos to John for 15 years even though I have lived in Glenview for the past ten years. He has always fixed the cars and has been good to advise honestly on issues that other shops would try to make money off of. In fact, EAP is the only place I've found that can fix my air conditioning. I've tried others in the past and have wasted money. In other cases where parts were scarce to come by (I currently have a 1992 740 turbo wagon), John has put in spare parts that he has on hand. We also intend to start bringing our 2007 Audi since John has experience on other Euro auto brands. He also has a towing service that will bring your car to his shop and you can pay him at the time you get your car back. His rates are reasonable and you can place your trust in the service performed. read more

I consider myself to be a connoisseur of fine automobiles, to bad my wife is obsessed with her Volvo XC90 and refuses to drive anything else. Although the car rarely has any problems, I cannot stand the people at Howard Orloff. Recently I was referred by a long time colleague of mine to Euro Auto Plex. My friend said that the business had been around for 21 years. I decided to give it a shot and could be nothing but satisfied. John, the owner, is an honest man that is not trying to squeeze every penny possible out of someone. The office manager Tony, was very attentive at making sure that I got done what I wanted done. This shop gave me the impression of "quality over quantity" which is hard to find in our current times. Cheers, Dr. Stevens read more

I've been taking my Volvo R here for a few years now. They are primarily Volvo, but they do that best. During one regular oil change they noticed a suspension part starting to wear, but were very honest about how much longer I could drive on it versus repairing it. When it came time to fix it, they did a great job. They have kept my car in good shape, and I trust them way more than the dealer. Only downside is, unlike a dealer, you get no loaner car. read more

Well my review isn't good concerning this Shop, the owner is a great guy but unless he is there i would be very weary of this place . My second tyime taking my 1999 S80 T6 in there it had required a nessasary repair. I got a phone call telling me i needed all of these additional repairs . I declined and only got what i intended to pay for . when I pick up my car my powersteering was out completely . note when it was towed there the powersteering was working . My engine compression was way offf . Now i know abourt preventive maintence but to go to a shop and you spend $800.00 and your car to come out worse there is something fishing . i filed a complaint with the BBB in late march of 10. And i am still waiting for a reasonal resolution , one where I am not charged another $1000.00 to get my car running right again. My suggestion. Be careful with these guy's . If the owner is not working on it find out who is !!! And get specifics i trusted these guy's and approved a repair job over the phone at there suggestion . I won't do that again nor will ! trust them , Again they are a good shop but be careful of unusual preventive maintenece scams. read more

Heroes! After my bad experience with another auto place, I called Euro Auto Plex at 7:50 PM, expecting to get their voicemail to find out what their hours are. Instead, I got a real, live human being, who told me to bring my car in the next morning. I got there at 9am, and they told me to wait. I was a little worried after waiting the better part of 3 days at this other place to have them find nothing wrong with my broken car, but after 15 minutes they brought me a hose full of holes and told me that appeared to be the problem. It was all fixed and I was out the door one hour later, with a guarantee by the friendly mechanic that he'd driven the car after replacing the part and it was now running fine. All for only $90! What a great deal, and my car is running great, AND the 'check engine' and 'service' lights that had been on in my car for over a year are off, after two prior mechanics telling me they were on because of broken censors. Euro Auto Plex is THE place to go if you have a European car. Don't waste time with the other guys. read more

My 20 year old Volvo has never been in better hands. I'm the original owner and was on the verge of buying something new when I found John and his shop. I can't go into details but I was overwhelmed with gratitude in the manner he handled my problem. Thanks guys. read more
