I love Dr. Naqvi, but the administrative staff should all be fired and start over with people who are accountable and actually do their jobs. I showed up for an appointment two days ago and was informed that two months earlier I had been called to reschedule my appointment. I checked my phone while I was there and showed them that there were no calls from them on the date that was written in my file. While they were able to get me in two weeks later, it upset me that the reason they cited for the need to reschedule was so that the doctor could perform surgery that day. It would seem that surgical follow ups and the money that they bring in are not as important as being able to make more money. I asked that my concerns about the scheduling be escalated to the supervisors but I doubt that it happened. This is not the first time that I have showed up for an appointment only to be turned away due to them rescheduling me without my knowledge. I wish my doctor worked somewhere else because she is the only reason I would utilize their services. read more

the wait time is ridiculous. I started at Midwest when it was smaller and enjoyed great service. I moved my mom here from CEI. now they've become worse than CEI. the wait times for an appointment have never been less than an hour ! it's hit or miss on the professional nature of the staff and when billing you the statement they sent was less than the online bill payment portal so we mailed a check because we couldn't change the payment amount. the one shining star is the surgery center. they are professional , stay on schedule and are so nice. read more

I had a horrible experience at Midwest Eye Center. I needed a refraction which they confirmed they could do. The refraction was done in a very rushed manner by a technician , not the doctor, and it was unlike any I have ever had in 50 years of wearing glasses. I felt very uncomfortable about using it to purchase glasses so I went to a different optometrist who did a thorough check and gave me a prescription that was significantly different. In spite of not telling me beforehand, they charged me for the prescription (even though charging for the glasses script is against Ohio law). I tried to explain all of this to a supervisor but she was much more interested in collecting the $50 than improving their service. I should have read the reviews before going. read more

The only concern here is profit, profit, profit. My God, they even asked me to bring back medical tape I wouldn't need after cataract surgery! I waited four months for my surgery appointment with a Dr. Noll. After an hour spent with many dully costumed assistants who hooked me up, gave me a heated rag for my lap, and asked me the same questions the receptionist had previously asked me, questions which I had already answered on their paperwork questionnaire, my second-hand wheelchair throne without footrests was rolled into the operating theater which appeared to have been last decorated in 1987 by former employees of an outlet Winnebago mall. "Hold up your feet" somebody warned me as we wound around all the too-tight curves in this sad little place. This Doctor Noll finally entered from behind me and never introduced herself. In fact she never even appeared in front of me. And off we went with many mumbled complaints about my eye moving too much during the procedure. The seven administrations of "numbing drops" did little to numb my eyes. No introduction was given by anyone as to what should be expected so that in addition to my constantly burning eyes followed by the searchlights boring into my eyes during the operation, did indeed result in me moving my eyes. The absolute best part was while I was being wheeled out while seated in yet another Goodwill hand-me-down wheelchair, one of the attending "nurses" called after me "Bring back any adhesive tape you don't use. There are three things you need to know about the MidWest Eye Center: 1. As a company, they don't care about you. If they did, they wouldn't have you sit in the waiting room well past your appointment time every single time. You will not be seen on-time, and you may be seen half an hour or more after you were supposed to be, even if you're the first appointment of the day, and the only person there. 2. They have a lot of different doctors, and some of them do a great job, and some of them are terrible. Figure out which ones are the good ones ahead of time, because you can literally end up with someone who does not know what they are doing. I'm pretty sure they've got at least one doctor who is going senile. Despite the 1-star review, they DO have some good doctors though, who are knowledgeable, and will try to take care of you, so it's not like you can't have a successful treatment here. 3. Eye medicine is like every other type of medicine: Not well figured out, and not reliable. My grandmother went here for over a decade, and my mom goes here now. Sometimes they do something that works. Sometimes they do something that doesn't work. You can go here and get surgery, and the surgery can be successful and you can see better, or you can go get surgery and your eyes can still end up weird and with problems. There's no guarantee. Actually maybe they do have a guarantee, but still - there's only so much that surgery can do, and it seems like they don't know until they've already done things, and can see the results. Appointments do take forever, but that isn't the worst of it. What I can't deal with is an unresolved bill which I tried to get figured out for almost a year. Finally after multiple calls to their office and then my insurance I figured out the problem all along was instead of billing the appt as my daughter's yearly checkup which is covered, they billed it as a medical visit, even though it was scheduled as a yearly visit and never discussed as being anything else. I tried to get in touch with the office to discuss why and could not get through to speak with anyone who could give me answers. After being told we would be called back, I received an email with a copy of our EOB, but still no call to discuss. Just paid the bill to be done with it, but will not be going back. read more

Everyone there is very friendly and seems knowledgeable but with each revisit they can't seem to figure out why my right eye is not right after catatact surgery. When I read the chart, I tell them that I can read it with my left eye fine but not my right eye. The one doctor seemed frustrated. "No no use both eyes". Both eyes are open but it doesn't seem to help. Something is definately wrong here. Do they need to re do my right eye? Of course not that costs them more money. My family highly recommended this place but they just don't seem to care. All of my doctors are at U.C. where I probably should have gone to initially. read more

I have been extremely frustrated with Midwest Eye Center -both the company and the Kenwood location and will never go there again. I have three specific points of complaint: I chose them as they were listed as an approved provider with my supplemental Medicare optical insurance which provides a free eye exam annually. I stated this to the scheduler I called for an appointment and was assured this was accurate. After my appointment as I checked out, I was asked for my medical co-payment. That was when I was first informed that this one and only Midwest location was NOT in the plan. And of course, I was eventually billed an additional amount towards my annual medical deductible. All of this for what would have been a free exam elsewhere. I did submit a complaint about all this to customer service and got no response, but decided to let it go and not submit a negative review until this last incident. While waiting initially for my appointment, I perused the selection of frames and spoke with the individual in charge of actually selling/ordering glasses. He was determined that I should get the new digital lenses which would run me about $500 and repeatedly insisted that anyone who cares about their vision will not settle for anything else in a very arrogant manner. My insurance did approve a surgery for eyelid ptosis repair through a different location with Midwest Eye Center so I followed through and got this surgery in late fall. This surgery procedure included a follow-up visit which was difficult to schedule given the holidays and the availability of the doc at a convenient location. And, once again, after the appointment, I got a bill for the co-pay, and will undoubtedly get another bill as there will be a portion the insurance will designate toward the deductible. Not once did anyone say that the timing of the follow up would make a difference in billing. I contacted billing as post surgery follow-up is always included as part of the initial charge. Now I get a message that the inclusion of cost is only good for 90 days post surgery. All of these experiences tell me that while there may be lovely people who work there, the company as a whole has no regard for their patients. If they did, there would be clarity provided at the time of any scheduling, and/or attempts to at least acknowledge and resolve issues raised with customer service. read more

I arrived five minutes early for my 3:45 PM appointment for a standard eye exam and updated prescription, and I was finally seen at 4:20 PM. A female tech did a pretty darn thorough job, and she was personable and friendly. I mentioned one unusual thing about my sight--it's been something I've noticed my whole life, but I asked about it. She said she'd look into my pupils, but she never did. After sitting by myself for almost a half hour (I played a phone version of Sudoku, which told me how long it had been), the ophthalmologist himself (Dr. Gary Carothers) came in, introduced himself, and he asked my birthday. This dude was certainly professional and matter-of-fact, and I'm pretty sure I got a good prescription. BUT, he would not recognize me if he saw me 20 minutes after the appointment. At the end, he said goodbye, and we were the only two people in the hall a minute later, but he said nothing to me. But that isn't the worst of it. I asked the optometrist about the issue I mentioned earlier, and he said briskly, "I wouldn't know what that was without looking in your pupils." Towards the end of our first encounter, he came at me with two sets of drops. He never told me what they were. I figured the first one was to dilate them, but then there was a second. He never explained he was going to give me drops or what they were. Then, he left me alone for about another 15-20 minutes. Another tech came in, and she gave me the same two sets of drops. I tried to explain that the doctor had JUST given me those, and she spoke to me like I was a child, saying she needed to MAKE SURE my eye was numb (first time I knew that was the goal). She looked at 'em, said something about them looking fine (this was the glaucoma check), and then she took me to a spot to wait for my eyes to be dilated. I was back there for awhile, then she brought me back, and I waited another 20 minutes for the doctor. He comes back in, and looks at my pupils, judges each one fine, explains my prescription and what kind of lens I should get, and he gives me a coupon. By this time, it is 6:30 PM! I'd been there two hours and 50 minutes!! I may have been underestimating the time I spent waiting, but I want to be fair. Even the front desk chick said, "I wondered what happened to you. You were back there awhile." I needed a prescription. That was it. I've gotten a prescription, glaucoma, and pupil checked like that at Wal-Mart (and similar places) and received a fine prescription--maybe no less accurate than this dude's, and I've certainly had all my questions answered. No one even ATTEMPTED to explain what they were doing, and no one even ATTEMPTED to say, "You could be experiencing this vision phenomenon [the thing I'd asked 2/3 of them] because..." Nothing to suggest that they even cared what my question was or what questions I'd have in the future. This was not a more thorough exam than I've had at less formal offices. It was just three times as slow with three times less care. I will not be returning. And even though they were recommended to me, I will not be buying my frames or lenses at the place that may or may not be connected to them in the office. I want no part of them. I'm tempted to go to WalMart or LensCrafters for a new exam to confirm my new prescription on my own dime, but I have already spent three hours on this one. Un-freakin-believable. Oh, and it's 9:22 PM. My eyes are STILL somewhat dilated. I wonder if it's because of the "double" dose of numbing and dilating drops, but I certainly wouldn't ask them--they don't care about my questions! EDIT: I did go to WalMart. I got a vastly different prescription, and I used the WalMart one rather than this guy's prescription. I can see just fine! AND, when the optometrist walked in at WalMart, he looked at me, and the first thing he said is: "You seem to have some cysts on your eyelid." Exactly. That's what I'd wanted Dr. Carothers to look at, but just as well. I did end up having them removed by a dermatologist, but it might have been nice for an eye doctor to notice them, eh? My eye exam went as expected. I've been to Dr. Carothers before and remember him as quiet but through. I asked about a script for contacts and got measured for them. I decided not to buy new contacts until I could buy them on sale somewhere. The script was given to Pennys by Keith w/o a problem. When I decided to order more in January Keith would not provide the script. I had ordered from Walgreens online after shopping around and the next day received an email saying the order was canceled by Keith. I read about the laws regarding contacts and decided to try again, this time I went to Sams in person. When a phone call was made while I was there Keith now would allow only a trial lens and made a differen excuse. I ended going back to Pennys and paid over a 100 dollars more than I would have. Since Penny's had the script from calling Keith at Tri-State Optical last April and my script was still good the optician didn't need to call Keith. I stocked up! I won't be returning to Tri-State because of the optical departments funny business. The optician at Pennys confirmed what I read about the law. Keith should've given my contact script to be filled by another optimist or optician. He had provided it once without reservation to Pennys and apparently decided to come up with some creative but not medically valid excuses why he couldn't provide it again. I will be making a complaint to the consumer agency that covers contact law violations. They are easy to find and apparently for good reason. read more

I arrived at my appointment on time. I was greeted by the desk clerk whose first words were "I don't know what I am doing". This was due to her frustration about a computer malfunction. I filled out the obligatory forms and was led to the exam room for a minor exam by te tech. She said te doctor would be in. So I waited only to hear someone outside my door referring to his "ass". Then Dr. Carothers arrived to do the preliminary exam, whereupon he dilated my eyes and I waited as I expected to do. I was then told to go back to the exam room where I sat for over 60 minutes. No explanation. Nothing. Sorry, doc, but your practice is poorly run. As I left, I told the front desk to be sure that no bill is generated. At that point I was told they are "short-staffed". Wow. I am willing to wait if I am kept in the loop. Dr. Bibler, you are a young Opthomologist. If I were in that practice, I would run like the wind- or fire your staff a replace them with people who value the patient. read more
