It's funny because when I usually look at videos it's for the food and I will check them out, but for this one I came for the person...the owner. I'm super glad I did because the food was good, but the owner... the person was better. We had a great conversation while I was eating that I will remember going forward. Very personable! He was taking orders and gave me some great recommendations based on my needs and being a first timer. Customer service was outstanding. I ordered the Boss Hog that comes with: Philly Egg Roll w/ sweet and sour sauce 9/10 Fries 9/10 5 Chicken Wings w/ ranch (24k Gold*Carolina BBQ) 9/10 Detroit Coney Dog 8/10 Everything was literally on point! I don't even need to explain, I already knew. The Coney Dog took me back to my time when I was in Detroit! The vibe inside the store made me feel like I was back in the Bay Area. My Dad (96) and I are Michigan transplants and we really miss the Detroit style coney dogs. So when, by chance, we bumped into the owner at GS buying groceries, we were thrilled. One of the outstanding things about Midwest Coney Connection is the service. The employees are super friendly and go out of their way to make you feel at home. I mentioned that I was a Michigoose transplant and had a lovely conversation about the coney dogs and reminisced about the differences between michigan and texas. I can't say enough good things about the food. It's classic Detroit style coneys and really fantastic. They don't skimp on the coney sauce. I saw TikTok videos of this place and I had to try it, it is worth the visit. I got the htown box so chili cheese dog with an all beef frank, seasoned fries, 5 battered wings, nacho cheese sauce on the side and ranch for under $19 is a great value. If you are on a diet, you are not for a night. It's definitely ultra indulgence. Love the all beef Frank dog, pillowy soft bread, nice snap to the dog, good spice flavors with a hint of beef from the dog, creamy cheese, beefy chili with a great earthy & mole type of taste. I love the chili has no beans. The grilled onions are a nice add of sweet too. Fries are good same o fries you would expect from any restaurant so this is a good example, thick middle sized fries. Wings are great, I preferred naked and I recommend to select your preference online battered or naked. The battered is crunchy and nice moist chicken but for me too salty. The garlic Parmesan sauce I couldn't really taste it, plus I was hoping to see more Parmesan, it would have been nice to sprinkle some on top and it needs more garlic. It had a nice semi sweet flavor but I could taste a hint of parm. Good wings but I bet the naked are better. Overall great experience, I recommend if you like cheese get a side of cheese sauce. It reminds me of Taco Bell cheese sauce but a slightly stronger cheese flavor. I will say the ranch is ok, it's watery, sorta missing out on the ranch flavor. It reminded me of Pluckers ranch sauce both are watery but it felt the ranch at Mid-West coney definitely could be thicker. This place truly never misses. I had the 8 piece hot honey lemon pepper and OG dry rub today. I love that the wings are not these huge steroid sized wings, they are the perfect size. The lemon pepper seasoning was not over powering. French fries were good but I should of made those a chili fries. Now let's get to the coney dog, they chili sauce on top is very flavorful. I have been to other place that say the coney dogs taste like the ones from Detroit, this place has hit it on the nail!!! First of all, I would not recommend ordering online from this place. You are more likely to get a better service if you dine in. If you do order to go, in addition to providing your name, don't be surprised if you are getting grilled over exactly what you ordered before the waitress releases the food to you. Their online receipt does not even list all the food items I ordered, and yet, she was reluctant to show the food items on the paper receipt attached to the ToGo bag. No, you already know my name. Why you gotta be a food nazi quizzing me the exact food I ordered. That's just nuts. Food wise. The chicken wings are well seasoned, but they are not "all flats" like they claimed on the ordering web site. We were under the impression that since you have to pay extra if you want all drums, and if your web site says All flats by default, we expected all flats. Clearly, you need to update your web site. Very misleading While it is well seasoned, it is over-fried. The skin is too crispy. They need better control of their frying time. Now, here is where everything goes downhill. Their chili hot dog, has NO chilies. Only just some mayo. Who does that? I'd get better hot dog from real Coney Islands. Philly Cheese steak eggrolls... very skimpy on the philly cheese. Nay.. The hot dog wiener was very good, classic with beef and pork. The only reason for four stars and not 5 is two things - it had way too much mustard and not enough chili. While they are also known for their wings and Philly style cheesesteak sandwiches, and a cheesesteak eggroll - it is always the Coney style hot dogs that I go for. They have three great styles to choose from (Detroit, Flint and Boss Hog). Additionally, they have a choice of the all-beef hot dogs and the classic, which is 90 beef and 10 pork. In my opinion the classic is the best and has a pleasant snap from the natural casing. Midwest is easy to miss as it is a small shop in a strip center located across the street from a large Walmart. I'm from the Detroit area been in Houston better part of my life.... this joint was recommended to me by a friend and they didn't disappoint i got the Detroit Coney's and they were great daughter got the Philly Steak and she really enjoyed... but the Dogs were spot on... only place in Houston closer to real Detroit Dogs I my home made ones and I Order Dearborn Sausage full casing hot dogs from Dearborn MI.
