I found it expensive for what it was. We ordered a large pizza. Added pepperoni, mushrooms, and I forget what else. Ordered some jalapeño poppers, too, while we were at it. Those jalapeño poppers smelled amazing and tasted fantastic if you could get over the overly cooked bacon. I wound up eating one or two and throwing the rest out. Just not worth it. The pizza was fine albeit a tad greasy for my taste. It kept fine for leftovers, but I have to tell you I think my companion enjoyed this pizza more than I did. When I kept hearing this was the locals' spot, I expected more. Frankly I was left underwhelmed by their food and I'm hoping they just had an off day. Well, this is a simple review on my one slice of pie. We ordered from Midtown Pies earlier in the week for lunch. Everything looked & smelled great. As I said, I just got a slice with 3 toppings: mushroom, onion, Italian sausage. The slice had a great crust, crunchy every bite. The mushrooms were fresh & the onions were sweet. Lots of sausage for just one slice! Someone else ordered their Cobb salad that came with a tin of hot meat (I think) to go with the salad. I do not like thin piece Pizza I prefer my pizza to be thick. They have thin pizza but it was really good that I didn't mind it at all. We got two pies, one blueberries and bacon and the other one was pesto basic with chicken. They were both really good, I honestly can't decide which one was better; but the blueberry one was the most unique in the one I would recommend trying just because it was so unique, great combination of flavors. You can definitely taste the quality of ingredients that they use here. The decor is very hipster, which I appreciated and the location is average sized. Great place to go for a fun, unusual pizza! I love their combinations! The only reason I didn't give them a five is because I've been there 3 times now and this last time it seemed that my pizza with the prosciutto and cherries and honey seemed a bit short on ingredients. I', one of those people that assume, as a business owner, that if you're running low on your ingredients, you don't wait for your shipment the next day - you RUN TO PUBLIX and grab some prosciutto to keep your clients happy! Don't think they don't notice, either...we are not stupid. It takes a wise person to see the beauty in a prosciutto, cherry, and honey pizza - so, don't sell me short. Just take it off the menu if you don't have staff to make a run. There, I've said it. Other than that, my daughter had the cheesiest, most wonderful pizza at the same time and it was incredible. Spreading the gospel of Gaines Street Pies in Midtown! Midtown Pies provides all the flavors of Gaines Street Pies just a little farther north in Midtown, without losing any of the quality! Sitting among the bunch of bars at the Midtown Manor, a slice of pizza here is perfect after a couple of beers. The slices are huge and well worth the price. Unless you're in a group, you won't need more than a slice, but you can always order a full pie to share. Highly recommend adding on their garlic knots too, if you have some extra space. The slices and pies are definitely geared towards "build your own", but you can select one of their specials if you can't decide. Overall, stop by (they're open late) while you're hanging out in between bars and need a good solid slice of pizza. You'll be glad you did! read more

Midtown Pies has become one of my favorite places to get pizza in Tallahasssee. I now tend to frequent there after a night of dancing at Fifth and Thomas, but have occasionally ordered out for dinner. To start, their pies are definitely one of the best in Tallahassee. The quality of ingredients and size of the pie for the price are definitely nothing to argue about. As for customer service, the staff is always very friendly and I see the same people there time and time again which must mean that they love working there and that is something I appreciate. My friend and I most recently visited last weekend. We split a 14" pie of The One With Everything On It. The pie came out piping hot, as usual, and was just absolutely delicious. The best part was the leftover pizza the next day. :) I have yet to try any of their appetizers or salads because I simply love their pizza, but after reading reviews on the garlic knots I think I will just have to put in an order of those at my next visit! read more

Gaines Street Pies' older brother offers a unique experience unlike its counterpart. The space itself is laid out appropriately, because, naturally, it's more likely to appeal to an elder midtown crowd, while still entertaining the college folk. The pizza is tender with a crisp bite of crust and dough on the bottom, making for a well-balanced bite. On my most recent visit, I ordered a grilled chicken slice and a creamy ricotta slice. The chicken was seasoned and cooked thru perfectly. Often times, ricotta can be heavy on the stomach, but they don't overdo it here at Midtown. They're well aware that a little bit goes a long way. Just like Gaines Street, Midtown offers a similar lunch special. Also, there are a few tweaks to the menu, some selections that are offered at Midtown are not offered at Gaines Street. So, check those out! These guys genuinely have a passion for pizza. Their ratio of cheese to sauce is what I love and why I wake up in the morning. You can't find pizza like this anywhere else. I absolutely love the crazy and creative options offered by midtown pies! If you haven't already please try the honey I shrunk the pigs pizza, yes I know cream cheese, candied jalapeños, honey, etc. may not sound that appealing, but wow it is surely AMAZING. The house made candied jalapeños are delicious and go perfectly on any slice of pizza. Not only are the pizzas themselves creative, but so are their names. You can tell the time and thought that went into curating the menu. Not only does midtown pies have great pizzas but their salads are amazing. I've been to Gaines Street Pies several times and have always had a good experience, but tonight was my first time visiting their Midtown location. I was sad that they weren't very busy, but it did make for a nice, quiet dining experience for the few people who were there. The inside was very nice and clean, the service was good, and the food was excellent. The menu has a lot of great options, and their lunch specials are a great deal. I've had pizza from Gaines Street many times and have never been disappointed. Tonight I had a calzone and it was fantastic. I will definitely return. read more

Candied jalapeños on a pizza?! Yum! We ordered an 18" pizza that was half guy on a buffalo part 2 and the pixie. -you can only do the half and half if you order 14" or 18". I highly recommend it! The buffalo was definitely our favorite. The combination of ranch and buffalo wing sauce was perfect with the candied jalapeño. It definitely has a kick, so if you don't like spicy food I wouldn't order this one. The pixie was probably a poor choice to order with the buffalo because the buffalo over takes it. This is located around the corner from a few stores. The set up was great. There were some bar seating and tables for us. Service was friendly and quick. I ordered the Caprese Vegetarian (Rich layers of tomato and fresh smoked Mozzarella topped with fresh basil, olive oil, kosher salt and balsamic reduction) and The Mark Forbear (Salami, smoked Gouda, lettuce, tomato, our house made vinaigrette and pesto aioli). The Caprese was tasty and the mozzarella was moist and perfect. The drizzle of balsamic reduction was just enough. Did I mention Gaines St. Pies was the best in town? It's true - and now with midtown pies open (for months now), we know to expect another "best experience" in TLH's growing pizza offerings. Wife and I ordered a 1/2 cleopatra (on the Gaines st. Menu, not here) and 1/2 Maggie Mae (I don't recall it being on Gaines menu). Stellar. The crust rivals anything with a 212 area code. The sauce is solid - and the ingredients/toppings retain body and flavor. The decor is simple - the focus is, after all, in making the best pizza possible. Good beers on tap - as well as vino. Gaines Street Pies or Momo's are usually touted as the best pizza places in town. Until today, I might have agreed. Midtown Pies combines the best of both Gaines Street Pies--with it's unique vibe and well-made pies--and Momo's renowned slice as big as your head. While MTP slices aren't AS big as Momo's, (although they come close), MTP certainly does have much more interesting and unique pies to choose from than either Gaines Street or Momo's. Today, I had a Reuben pizza. Let that info sink in as you sink your teeth into pizza that is both a pizza and a Reuben. (I think you got it now.) Pizza is mediocre at best, I would suggest going to Blaze where you can get the same quality and size for literally half the price. Also $3 is a bit extra for a blue ribbon. This is my favorite pizza in town! I'm glad is not too close to me or I'd be here everyday ! The pizza is great, probably one of my favorites in Tally. I feel the preparation is less rushed than at Gaines Street Pies and it is more cheesy, with the right amount of tasty sauce for flavor without overpowering the other ingredients.
