The clerks are friendly and helpful and will poor you a draft beer for around $5 that you can hang out and enjoy during your escape from the house to pick up milk or bacon. They also offer sandwiches, coffee, and bakery items that can be taken to go, or enjoyed at the counter looking out to Lamar. There really aren't any grocery stores near Lamar and St. Johns, so this one gets 4 stars for location, quality brand options, and pints. One thing that's not so das, but hasn't kept me from returning, is the cost. For example, a pint of ice cream starts at $6 and goes up to like $8. No Blue Bell here. read more

Racist and disrespectful. I came in to purchase an over priced lighter . the man Inside did not have his mask on and was actively picking his nose he locked eyes and he knew I saw him doing this . I asked him if he could sanitize before scanning my item. He said he didn't have any hand sanitizer even though there are bottles all in front of the store . I offered him some of mine he refused . Ok, so I admit, I love this store for the convenience and the selection. They have everything you may need without a run to the grocery store. But....The place is such a blatant rip off. I'm not sure why they find it necessary to charge nearly double on basic items. I've put up with it until now because of the convenience, but seriously, it's worth going down the street and saving $10-$20 per visit. On top of that, don't even think about walking in here in anything you plan on wearing later. You can't help but absorb the aroma of...sandwiches maybe...I dunno, but one of my pet peeves and this place constantly smells like sandwich press - and not in a good way. What's not to like? Small grocery in a super convenient location, perfect for folks that live in the Crestview Station neighborhood (Midtown Commons apartments or the Dr Horton City Homes development). They carry the usual snack foods, household supplies, soft drinks, beer, wine, etc - but look closer and they have a sneaky good selection. Four different flavors of Guayaki tea? A half dozen sodas from Dublin Bottling Works? The craft beer selection is impressive too, as is the wine - heck, they carry 8-10 different savignon blanc varieties in the fridge alone. There's also a cafe in the corner that serves coffees and made-to-order food, stuff like croissants, breakfast tacos, and paninis. I tried both the tacos and paninis and thought they were great. Quality ingredients. They also carry quality heat-and-serve foods like soups and sandwiches. Bonus: they have growlers that you can fill with draft beer or kombucha. Prices are a bit on the higher side, though not unreasonable for the convenience of walking to the store. read more

I've given Midtown Grocery several tries in its first couple of weeks and while there's lots of great stuff on the shelves, ordering from behind the counter hasn't been a great experience. On my first visit I had questions about some of the menu items and only 1 person could answer them. It seemed staff hadn't really be trained before opening. On my second visit about a week later it went more smoothly, but after an explicit conversation with the guy making sandwiches about which bread I wanted, when I got back to my office the sandwich had been made on a croissant, which I really did not want. On the most recent visit a co-worker tried to get me a decaf espresso drink and it seems Midtown Grocery only makes caffeinated drinks. Ooooooookay. Clearly they are still working out the kinks. read more

My boyfriend and I just moved to Midtown Commons and have come in here the past couple of nights for drinks and snacks after moving. Nice beer and wine selection.Nice selection of snacks.Kombucha and craft beer growlers. Yes it is more expensive than a regular grocery store but it's not really meant to be that.You pay for convenience pretty much which is fine in some cases.We did not try anything from the cafe but we will definitely be back for coffee and paninis. The staff has been friendly.There is one guy that's been there the past couple nights who seems to be a manager or owner.He is super helpful and friendly and gave us a cafe menu and told us about the growlers when we explained we just moved in across the street. Overall,I love the convenience and we will probably come here quite a bit! read more

I was in here yesterday. I asked the gentleman working the counter if he could wear a mask (as he was not and it is required in TX) and he just kind of awkwardly laughed. The next customer behind me also asked him to put on a mask (they are asking all patrons to wear one so why shouldn't they?). He again ignored us both. I like this store, but won't be attending anymore until they start wearing / enforcing their employees to wear masks. read more

I was referred by a friend of mine to check out this cute spot in the trendy neighborhood.. So here my review goes .. They have a colorful store - ok nice The best piece is Steven Ray Vaughn mural..two thumbs up Staff very pleasant and courteous Grocery selection .. Guys they have almost everything save a trip to central market Seating .. Wish they had more pleasant seating Food : their paninis are awesome I ordered the avocado and breakfast which they serve all day.. 10 on 10.. My girlfriend ordered a latte .. They do coffee right.. Just hit the spot delicious and perfect temperature .. They have kombucha on tap and other craft beer that you can buy in growlers. If seating is right would love to try a draft beer and some food . As a resident of Midtown Commons, I freely admit that Midtown Grocery it the best thing to ever happen to this place. Perhaps the best thing to happen to Austin.They have an amazing selection of craft beers, as well as anything else you may need at a moment's notice. The staff is also a highlight of the experience. One employee in particular really shines. Mike is always incredibly helpful. It's as if he is an angel sent from heaven to watch over us mere mortals. His aura is incredibly powerful. I suggest you don't look him straight in the eye...unless you wish to know the true meaning of the universe. Also they make breakfast and lunch sandwiches. read more

I work in this area and go to the yoga studio next door so I was super excited when this opened. I went in for breakfast and coffee and was disappointed in the selection. No healthy options, it is all pastries and sandwiches. I ordered a coffee and there was no creamer or skim milk. I waited a few months to go back; since it is convenient and I want to like this place, I gave them a 2nd try. Again, disappointed. I asked what their sugar-free syrup options were, I like a good sugar free vanilla pump in my latte, and they have none. I opted for a regular latte and took a sip and it needed something. I asked for honey, basic right? Nope, no honey. For a great location near residences and other businesses, I would expect a coffee/grocer in Austin to offer more. I will drive out of the way and pay more to go somewhere else to get what I am looking for. read more

Love their pininis!!! The coffee is pretty good, and for being small they have a good drink selection as far as energy and alcohol.

The place is great! Very clean and definitely convenient! Great wine selection and overall variety of products. However just because of the nature of the store it is a bit on the pricy side.
