We hit up Midtown Donuts all three days during our recent visit to Memphis. On day one, we had a few donuts and donut holes but by day three, we had donuts, donut holes, muffins, and kolaches. We love red velvet donuts, and we tried all three varieties that they had. The one with cream cheese on top was absolutely delicious. We also enjoyed the frosted donut holes, both the strawberry and chocolate, as well as their lemon glazed doughnut. It was cute that they threw in a few donut holes to fill the boxes where they could. The chocolate muffin, apple fritter, and cinnamon roll (butter roll) were quite good as well. The kolaches were delicious. We loved that they had a sweet Hawaiian bread wrapping the sausages. This place was a crowd pleaser from the adults to the kids. On the last day we were there, the staff said "see you tomorrow" and unfortunately, we had to say that we were leaving town. But, we'll definitely be back when we visit Memphis again. read more

I stopped by Midtown Donuts in Memphis because the donuts in the display looked delicious, and I was excited to finally give the place a try. When I walked in, the store appeared clean for the most part, and everything looked fresh. I ordered a kolache first and then decided to get a red velvet donut because it looked so good. However, before the employee could put the donut in the bag, I noticed a large horsefly flying around inside the display case, landing and flying around the donuts. I was instantly disgusted and reacted immediately. The employee seemed to acknowledge it, but her reaction felt more performative than genuinely concerned. It didn't seem to faze her, even as another customer who had already ordered coffee was also watching what was happening. I understand that bakeries and donut shops with open display cases can occasionally have issues with insects, and I'm not saying people shouldn't visit this business. Everyone can make their own decision. But personally, once I saw a horsefly flying around food that was about to be served to me, I couldn't bring myself to knowingly eat it. What surprised me even more was that after seeing my reaction, the employee still asked if I wanted the kolache. At that point, I had completely lost my appetite and simply walked out. I was genuinely looking forward to trying Midtown Donuts, and it's disappointing that my first experience ended this way. Unfortunately, because of what I witnessed, I won't be returning. read more

Stopped by Midtown Donuts about 5 minutes before closing and had one of the best experiences. I picked up an apple fritter, a blueberry donut, and a red velvet donut, and the sweet lady helping me surprised me with a free second apple fritter and one of their famous cronuts. Her kindness alone would have earned five stars! Now for the donuts... wow. Seriously some of the best I've ever had. Everything was incredibly fresh, soft, and packed with flavor. The apple fritter was amazing, the blueberry and red velvet were delicious, but that cronut absolutely stole the show. It was so flaky, buttery, and soft that I can only imagine how incredible it must be straight out of the fryer. Great donuts, amazing customer service, and such generous people. I'll definitely be back. Thank goodness I can walk there from my place because I have a feeling I'm going to become a regular! read more

I am visiting in from New Orleans and oh my goodness the donuts here are incredible!!! I have never been a huge Eclair fan but they have the most amazing glazed eclair filled with crème. In a bind on Thanksgiving morning and needing a bite to eat, we made our way to Midtown donuts. They were one of the only places open on Thanksgiving morning, and we were extremely grateful. I decided to try their apple fritter and a kolache. The apple fritter was massive and everything I hoped it would be. The kolache had good flavor and was the savory bite I needed to balance the sweetness from my apple fritter. All in all, a decent donut shop in Memphis and Thanksgiving morning heroes that saved the day. read more

WOW! These were some of the freshest donuts I've had. So delicious and soft! Many varieties to chose from. Cream cheese filled glazed doughnuts! What else is there to say! These were the best doughnuts by far I have ever had. Never seen a cream cheese filled one either but glad I grabbed the last one. If I lived nearby, we definitely would be retuning everyday! Very light and airy yeast doughnut. Much better than Krispy Kreme imo. Not a cake like doughnut. Just fantastic! A lovely downtown donut shop that lives in the shadow of Gibsons:) I love to stop in on occasion and it is consistently delicious! I typically have a kolache or croissant - both are always good. All donuts are freshly made and soft as if just pulled out the fryer. Can't believe these prices!!! Mixed dozen for $10. Seems they have a decent variety of breakfast sandwiches and kolaches too. Shame that they seem to have kolaches with sausage or ham only, no vegetarian options. Their coffee is made with love, pleasantly surprised by the iced coffee. Card accepted. I was very impressed by the selection and taste of Midtown Donuts offerings. They had a wide variety of donuts, but I went with my favorite non traditional styles, red velvet and maple bacon. They were both superb. I noticed they had kolaches by the cash register and I got a jalapeño kolache and I was blown away. The bread was so fluffy and buttery. The sausage was nice and snappy too. I've overlooked this place for a long time but a hankering for cinnamon buns brought me by. It is my new go to for donuts when the time comes for it! Also super affordable and friendly service. Parking is kind of a nightmare to get in and out but it's on Union so you can't expect anything else. Very clean on the inside. Cinnamon bun: not a traditional cinnamon bun as one would except, it's made with Chinese style donut dough so it's much more of a soft texture than a traditional chewy bouncy cinnamon bun. Kind of reminiscent of if a carnival made cinnamon buns. I liked it a lot and it was huge. Cinnamon twist: also made with Chinese style donut dough, which I honestly prefer to the traditional donut dough. It is so much softer and feels like clouds. Perfect amount of sugar and cinnamon, highly recommended. Kolaches: the spicy and regular were both very tasty, the sausage inside itself was actually nice which I was surprised by. I liked the sausage more than the pastry it was wrapped in. Croissant: SHOCKED at how tasty the croissant was!! I've never seen a donut place offer croissants, hell some bakeries don't even make them right. Flaky, soft, buttery, crispy outside and decently sized as well.
